"When Jahunger opened its doors in Cambridge last year, lovers of fiery-umami flavors and chewy, chili-laced hand-pulled noodles rejoiced. The Uyghur restaurant, which started in Providence, has legions of loyal fans who flock to it for the namesake Jahunger noodles, yes, but also tiny cumin and pepper-coated marinated lamb skewers, and the cold chicken appetizer lacquered in a secret chili sauce topped with onions, slivered black fungus, and scallions. While spicy meat and carbs piled high with aromatics are the focus, the blistered green beans are the perfect charred, veggie foil for the more substantial dishes. Not everything tips the Scoville scale, though. Cool your palate with a crisp scallion pancake or leek and egg dumplings, and douse any lingering flames with a can of Wang Lao Ji, a sweet herbal beverage meant to cool you down from the inside out. photo credit: Joe St. Pierre photo credit: Joe St. Pierre photo credit: Joe St. Pierre" - Catherine Smart
