"Around since 1996, this neighborhood mainstay offers a wide selection of artisan loaves — not to mention a lengthy menu of groceries, pantry staples, prepared dinners, cafe beverages, and spirits. The bread selection typically includes crusty sourdough batards, French-style sourdough boules, baguettes, and more. One might also find traditional Boston brown bread, Nordic rye, challah, and plenty of other options. Hi Rise also partners with some local restaurants, so don’t be surprised to find it on the table at, for example, Mistral." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

"If you’re a bakery that sells homemade bread, pastries, and cases of good wine, then you’re doing something right in life. We really love everything about Hi-Rise, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s a large, airy room where you can sit and have lunch right next to the working bakers. Plato might not have had an ideal form for a bakery, but if he did, Hi-Rise would be in the running. Hi-Rise is currently open for takeout and delivery." - Joel Ang

"This casual Observatory Hill bakery — which has a second location in Porter Square — is run by René and Cynthia Becker, who also operate Italian spot Luce in Porter Square. Hi-Rise has been around since 1996, serving a wide array of sandwiches and breakfast dishes, all with bread made in-house. The Concord Avenue location also serves packaged to-go dinner entrees and sides on weeknights from 4:30 p.m. to close. There are also beers, wines, and liquor available for purchase." - Dana Hatic

The cookies🍪 are great , I happen to get the sugar cookies .They were so good . I also bought the lemon cake 🎂 phenomenal. I had a sample of the “ ginger snaps “ delicious; but they were sold out ! I meet them @ the Copley farmers market . I have added the pictures below . The staff were super informative and helpful .

I’ve been to this local café a few times and really liked it. The prices are a bit high, but I visited because of its location. Recently, I saw mice in the café—not just one, but three. It felt like their playground. I couldn’t enjoy my coffee and felt very uncomfortable. Even in Boston, where mice are common, this was the worst I’ve seen. The staff knows about the problem but isn’t doing anything. I don’t think I’ll visit again for a while. I hope they fix this soon.

I regularly buy coffee and sometimes sandwiches at this establishment, but I’ve always felt that the service could be significantly improved. The staff often seem uninterested or unhappy to serve customers, which discourages me from going there for coffee. I usually only visit when I don't have any other nearby options. If I have the choice to go to another bakery (like the one on the corner, although it closes earlier), I would definitely prefer that. Unfortunately, this place is always my last option. On one occasion, I placed an order for a hot latte online, with an estimated preparation time of 30 minutes. I ended up waiting for about 35 minutes before going to pick it up, only to find that the coffee was not ready. I then had to wait an additional 15 minutes for the staff to prepare my drink. On Sunday, December 1st, I went in to order a coffee 10 minutes before closing. The attendant informed me that they would not be making any more coffee since they were already closed. While I understand they may be tired and eager to leave, I believe if the establishment's hours are listed as until 4 PM, they should be willing to serve until that time, or close earlier if they don't want to work until then. I will likely return, as sometimes there are no other options, but each visit becomes more frustrating due to the poor service.

A West Cambridge Cafe with an artisanal charm. Took a visit this morning to grab some breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the indulgent smell of a freshly baked bread as they had a dedicated section for baking fresh bread. Alongside a curated selection of wine and whiskey, they also had a corner showcasing an array of house-made preserves and granola, which collectively contributed to its rustic yet refined local marketplace vibe. Since there were a lot of negative reviews regarding their food, we initially didn’t have high expectations for their food. Admittedly, being the first customer of the day, the twenty-minute wait for two simple breakfast sandwiches seemed a tad lengthy. The oat milk latte was also a bit too mild for my taste, yet the pastries and the sandwiches more than made up for it. Both the Hungry Pickle and Luke Rocks the Free World sandwiches boasted perfectly crispy buns that added a satisfying crunch to each bite. Even the simpler Brekkie Supreme sandwich, which didn't appear freshly made, was surprisingly good. From the pastries, we had the Orange Coconut and Maple Pecan Scones, and both were nice treats – moist, buttery, and exquisitely crafted to my preferred taste. My experience at Hi Rise certainly exceeded my initial expectations. If you’re looking for satisfying breakfast sandwiches and pastries, I recommend giving them a try. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait for the sandwiches, but rest assured, these are well worth the patience.

Lovely little bakery in west Cambridge on the way to alewife. Came in for a quick coffee and snack and loved the selection of sandwiches, breads, and the wine/champagne on offer. Seemed very busy for a Tuesday afternoon, which made our time there fun. Hope to come back again soon !

Google
The #23 was a delicious sandwich, one of the best I've had. Nice atmosphere, can't wait to try their sour dough bread loaf. The potato leek and carrot soup was also great!

Google
I stumbled upon this bakery at the Copley Square Farmer's Market. Since their actual location in Cambridge is a bit of a hike for me, I took advantage of this lucky encounter and tried their Nordic Seeded Bread and Lemon Curd Cake. Both were really good. I wish the Nordic Bread was a whole loaf (though it would weigh like a brick - I know this because this is my favorite bread to bring home from Scandinavian countries). The Lemon Curd Cake had a hint of a Meyer lemon which I'm usually not a fan of but it did add a nice layer to the flavor (and I hope my taste buds didn't dream this up). I look forward to trying some of their other breads and sweets.

I just stopped for cupnoc black coffee. This will be my last time. Such a shame. The coffee resembled more of diesel sludge than a black coffee. It was the bottom of the pot. I went back and told the folks behind the counter. They dismiss my comment! Bad coffee, clearly everything is overpriced and service not where it needs to be.

Jonathan E.

Yelp
Haven't been here for awhile (2 years) after being a regular. Found the service really lacking - like they are annoyed that customers want to place an order. Prices have also become surprisingly high. Food and bread look delicious but I don't think I'll be coming back.

Katie O.

Yelp
The service staff was extremely rude, and the food is not worth the high price tag! $14 for HALF a sandwhich, come on!

Yelp
Returned after 5 years. Somehow it's gotten worse holy cow. Just bring the prices down already, it was legit actually sad to see. Teo poor guys sat down next to me laughed at the cost of their lunch, said it must be bc the students at Harvard pay such high tuition and then proceeded to wait about 20-25 minutes for their sandwich. And it wasn't even busy. It's just such a sad place to be, watching how they rip people off and then make them wait to add insult to injury. The manager is apparently the reason for all this

Jihye L.

Yelp
I saw a fly landed on the Real Food on the display glass!! Cannot believe it. I think they need to cover the food with something..

Zoe L.

Yelp
service was terrible people were not friendly, prices were insane I can't believe anyone would pay that for coffee let alone a sandwich and some soup. Like almost 50 dollars in ridiculous, they need to make some serious changes.

Luke S.

Yelp
My visits to Hi-Rise Bread have left me with mixed feelings. While their products boast quality, the overall experience has been marred by a few recurring issues. Firstly, the prices are notably high, which becomes a deterrent for frequent visits. Additionally, the persistent issue of them being out of products, regardless of the time of day, is frustrating. It's disheartening to anticipate a particular item only to find it consistently unavailable. Moreover, the demeanor of the staff has been a concern. There's an air of condescension in their interactions, which detracts from the otherwise pleasant atmosphere one expects in a bakery. It's unfortunate because the quality of their offerings is commendable. However, the high prices, perpetual lack of stock, and the tone of the staff create an experience that doesn't align with the bakery's potential.

Chris G.

Yelp
Here's a more informal revision of the Yelp review: This place is way overpriced for what you get. The snobby employees act like they're doing you a favor just by taking your order. And the food itself is nothing to write home about - pretty basic bakery stuff that you can find better versions of just by walking a couple blocks. With much better options nearby at the same or lower prices, I can't really recommend wasting your time or money here until they get their act together on service and quality.

Anne D.

Yelp
Wonderful bakery Good sandwiches Nice wine selection Like a trip to Europe Great place for lunch

Andy P.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars I would. The employees act as though they are doing you a favor! They have zero concept of what service means. These people frequent the farmers' markets in Cambridge and think their goods are from a Parisian boulangerie. What a joke! On top of that there seems to be a racist undertone in the way they treat their various customers.

David R.

Yelp
Actually 3.5 stars. Let's start with the good. The breads are delicious (it's a bakery) and the sandwiches are quite good and creative with delicious sauces and fresh meats. Normally that would be good for a 4 to 5 star review. But prices matter and the cost of a sandwich here is fairly outrageous given that it's basically a no-frills bakery and sandwich shop. There is no atmosphere and it's located in a non-descript part of town, on a road, next to a Thai massage place. Accordingly, $20 for an ordinary size sandwich (not big enough to share) seems to me outrageous. Mine was a chicken breast, some mayo spread, a slice of cheese, a piece of lettuce and a couple pickle slices. Maybe the cost of these ingredients was $4....maybe less. So to charge $20 for that seems pretty over the top even with the current environment where the cost of labor and other overhead has increased. At $12 per sandwich this is a 5 star establishment. At $20, it's hard to recommend unless money is of no object to you. If money and quality matter to you, check out Three Little Figs in Somerville. $10 sandwiches that are fantastic.

Donna G.

Yelp
$9.50 for a cup of soup! And the soup is 1/3 potatoes. That's it for me! A hungry family could have a meal for that amount. The place is understaffed and no one seems sure about what they're doing.

Yelp
This is a sad one... I used to go here every single day for about 2 years for a coffee and then sometimes, lunch, soup, sweet, pre-made dinner, etc I loved it, I knew it was "pricey" and that was annoying but fine because it was just so good... Then, I moved and was not around for about 6-7 years and popped in last week for lunch for 2, total was 85.00 Both Soups were bland, had to add little salt and pepper packets to each (I used to love their soups), sandwiches were lackluster (my sandwich had olive spread for example as part of the recipe, and there was a smidge on there, a smidge), the other sandwich a grilled cheese had one side not "grilled", some ingredient not in there, but waited 30 min (mid afternoon not overly crowded at all) really... wow time showed the game was off, different, and it was really sad. The way of the world I suppose, got big and successful, cashed in and the beloved home base is now an overpriced and underloved pit stop for profit. I mean who knows the whys but it was clear, this isn't the hi rise that we knew and love, that is long gone - I won't be returning to my ex favorite place... and I do not recommend even for a once in a while. Oh and what was once the best latte was also just meh, ah you can never go back they say...bizarro hi rise has killed the original and lives on as a soulless and expensive walking dead. #RIPHiRIsE

Jonathan P.

Yelp
Some breads are excellent, nice deserts, but sometime comically expensive, like $38 for a 6" diameter pecan tart.

Chris M.

Yelp
Hi-Rise is my least favorite spot in the Huron Village, which is a shame because I'd probably go there all the time if I liked it better. The root cause of the issue to me is the owner's cheapness. The place is always understaffed. It always takes a long time, greater than 10 minutes, to get a breakfast sandwich even when there are no orders ahead of you, like at 8:15am on a weekday. And when there is a line? Forget about it; it's going to take forever. Yes, other local places get busy too. But the lines at Bagelsaurus, 1369, and La Saison all move faster and you get your food faster after ordering at those spots as well. It's not just the wait time either. The price of a comparable breakfast sandwich at Hi-Rise is about 20-30% more expensive than Bagelsaurus. The quality of the breakfast sandwiches is typically, though not always, good at Hi-Rise, but not so much so as to overcome the weaknesses pointed out above. There are usually smaller, ready-to-go sweet and/or savory options as well that you only have to wait in line for instead also waiting for it to be prepared. When you do interact with a member staff, they are generally friendly. However, there simply aren't enough of them, which is the owner's fault, and which drags down the ambiance in my opinion. Lastly, they don't have Wifi, so you are limited in terms of what work you could do there.

CG R.

Yelp
I was a fairly regular customer at both Hi-Rise sites in Cambridge. The pandemic ruined the Mass Ave site and its aftermath destroyed the. Concord Ave. store. When prices for sandwiches start at $17 dollars, something is terribly wrong. Everything else (cookies, cheddar snails, loaves of bread) are something that people like me can no longer afford. When you can get prepared food and sandwiches at an overpriced emporium like Formaggio for a lot less, why ever go to Hi-Rise? I would love to support local businesses like Sarahs and Armando's but not when I'm being gouged. Good luck to them. They've made it clear that they neither want nor need my business.

Christopher A.

Yelp
This place has a great vibe with a really nice patio. The coffee is really good but the food is lacking. The bread on my sandwich was stale and the egg in my sandwich was over cooked so the yolk was cooked all the way through. I also tried the oatmeal which was only in a very small to go container not any sort of bowl. It made it very difficult to eat. The staff was pleasant but didn't know that they had run out of granola for sometime. I would come there for a cup of coffee to enjoy the patio on a nice day and maybe a piece of toast, but that's it.

Steve Y.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but left here disappointed twice. Came here for lunch for the first and second time and my goodness they are extremely slow. Ordered a breakfast sandwich at the counter both times and both times my order did not make it to the kitchen. First time they owned up to it and gave me a bakery item of choice while I wait. The second time, nothing. Just a cold, unapologetic guy with glasses saying it's coming. 20min later I got my sandwich. I can see why others say it's a hit or miss. It's a beautiful place but unfortunately not consistent in the service department which is a shame, the food is actually really good though a bit expensive. Best of luck and hope the service can improve.

Danny F.

Yelp
You shouldn't support this business. The owner doesn't pay his food and wine suppliers.

Hubert H.

Yelp
A good local bread store; the scones I got years ago were a bit dry, but otherwise one can get a variety of breads and cake loafs here. The prices are steep, so beware.

Christopher Y.

Yelp
Good bread, coffee and other food. Lately very rude service, though, with a lot of condescension. I thanked one server for my coffee and got a weird, sarcastic "No probem" in return. So infuriating that I won't be going back there. Gratuitous rudeness on top of sky-high prices doesn't cut it.

Jean C.

Yelp
I used to live this place, in fact I had my friends to the one in Harvard Square in my birthday. Yes, I've been going here for so long, I remember when they had a place in the learning complex. The prices have gone wayyy up while the quality has gone down. For example- the oatmeal used to have cherries and candied pecans. Now you get cranberries and walnuts. The molasses better, but it was also bigger. Also, one used to be able to put one's milk in one's own coffee. Those days are gone. *Sigh* I hope that this place goes away so that it can be replaced by something decent. I'm sad that we've lost the Boston Tea stop and Dado, only to be replaced by inferior chain stores. Maybe now it can balance out if a mediocre local place closes and we get something good. Probably, too much to ask since with the crazy market, only chainstores can afford to move in.

Lina T.

Yelp
Tried this for the first time. Price is really high even for small mediocre pastries. Not worth the cost

An O.

Yelp
The food is good here but prices have gone through the roof, well beyond inflation. A chicken sandwich is $19 and this is self-serve!

Michael K.

Yelp
These people have pop ups at the various farmer's markets in Cambridge. Their baked goods, breads and granola are good but not exceptional and definitely not worth the prices they are charging. My biggest issue with them is their lack of customer service or none at all. The staff at the various markets always seem aloof, and disinterested in doing their jobs. It is disgusting and a total turn off. You are selling baked goods on the streets in Cambridge not in a Parisian boulangerie. It is not my fault that you had a poor upbringing or lack training. Get with the program!

Maria G.

Yelp
An expensive place for breakfast. Just keep in mind that you will easily spend $15 (after T+T) for breakfast here. Check out the food price on the menu here, https://www.yelp.com/menu/hi-rise-bread-company-cambridge/concord-ave-menu I got the avocado toast ($6) and the lemonade ($3.25). Both were good! Will I be back? Yes. Just won't be a regular! I love the space. It is well lit and offers plenty of tables for conversations with friends.

Claire H.

Yelp
Overheard a male employee referring to an Asian customer as "Yo-Yo Ma" when out of earshot. Absolutely despicable, and not the first time I've observed questionable behavior from this person on staff.

Amanda W.

Yelp
I want to start off this review by saying that their mocha iced coffee is excellent! However, I do not recommend getting food here. The cheddar snail was extremely hard to bite into, I probably could have used it to play a game of hockey and it would have served a better purpose than trying to eat it. My boyfriend and I ordered breakfast sandwiches for here the other day (the hi-rise and avocado toast). These two things took over 35 minutes to make (it was a Saturday). I'm not sure if it has always been this way, or if this is as a result of lack of help but it was disappointing to wait that long for lack luster breakfast sandwiches. I would recommend for the coffee, and the coffee only.

Emily L.

Yelp
I never used to venture to this area of Cambridge, but these days I pair a visit to Hi-Rise with a stop at the gluten free bakery down the street. It's a welcome place to sit and enjoy a coffee/tea before heading back into the throes of Harvard. While Hi-Rise doesn't have the best coffee in the area, they do a decent job. I usually get a latte or a chai latte (Mem Tea) with their homemade almond milk. The almond milk does have a bit of a texture to it, which is more noticeable in an iced drink and isn't always what I'm looking for. But it's rich and creamy in a hot drink. Grab a punch card to get a free drink down the line. I haven't tried the food here, although I do get the occasional baguette or country boule for the Tall Man. He and other friends consider the bread to be top notch, although they don't have gluten free options (plus, there's probably too much cross contamination with their open bakery right next to the dining space). Service is friendly and pretty speedy, unless you come during weekday lunch hour. There's a bathroom in the back, which you need to ask about since it's accessed behind the counter. Despite how rustic and quaint the place feels, it's not the best place to work, since there is no wifi, and I don't think there are plugs. But people seem to come more for food and conversation than anything else.

Blake L.

Yelp
Walked in during a quiet Tuesday late morning for some brunch, there were maybe 3 customers in the restaurant. I walk up and order the Huevos Rancheros and am told the order would take 15-20min to make. I said no problem and waited for 20 min or so before approaching the front to check on my order. When I asked about it, I was told that the front staff had no control over when the kitchen would complete my order. I said no problem I'll wait a bit longer. (how long could eggs, beans, salsa, and toast take?) I wait another 30 min, asked multiple times about my order and was given some excuse each time. I politely asked the front staff to check and after nearly 1 whole hour of waiting I am finally given my order which was mediocre at best. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
From 2017-2019, while living/ studying in Cambridge, I patronized Hi-Rise almost daily. I often lunched there & bought bread desserts for celebrations in my Cambridge home a half block away. That store seems to have closed. I was glad to realize recently that the other Hi-Rise store is located a short (walking) distance from my son's apartment. The store currently has some kind of "no entry" policy, for #Covid, I think. Hi-Rise IS a bit hi-priced but I liked my occasional lunch there when I had one on occasion at the Mass Ave location. I invited my son to have lunch there today -- we were celebrating. We ordered 2 expensive lattes & sandwiches & I left a large tip for the person who took our order & informed us she would bring our sandwiches out to our table on the street. It turned out that my son needed a restroom. He waved someone in Hi-Rise down. She came out & told him "no restroom" & to try the deli down the street. In other words, she sent him to, another establishment, one he was NOT patronizing, to do what her place would not. Just as I, who had 10 minutes earlier had (over ) paid & (over-tipped) for lunch, asked to cancel the order, an employee slapped down tge 2 expensive lattes, saying "here's your drinks. We'll refund the rest." Apparently I was supposed to pay for this greed & briefer-line cruelty. It will be a very long time before, if ever, I patronize Hi-Rise. I

Yelp
Hi-Rise always caught my eye when I'd pass through Cambridge, before we moved here. Now that I'm in town, I love it like I love my friendly neighbors. I think it is a treasure. The coffee is well pulled. The smell of baking bread is always so welcoming. The dessert and pastry options are unparalleled. The wine selection is cute and to the point. I would pay good money to find the person who used to make their jam that they no longer sell (and as a result, I no longer eat jam). I am sad that they change the menu sometimes to drop things like the shakerato, which was a rockin' espresso concoction. But unlike some other customers, everything I've eaten here has been good to great. I wonder what I'm doing so wrong and who painted my eyeballs with this rose-colored film... If I had to join the bandwagon of gripers, I'd say their challah isn't where it's at. But I have yet to find a challah in these parts that isn't too sweet or too airy. So I'll let that slide. The chocolate cork recently made me contemplate whether or not driving across town for a pastry is a reasonable thing to do. I am thoroughly enjoying the fact that prices in this area can be refreshingly lower than other cosmopolitan areas that I've grown accustomed to. San Francisco will groom a person to eat a $40 piece of avocado toast with a shrug and a gulp. And I'm not flush with the dollars. But I will spend on quality food. I'm a very happy customer here.

Lee C.

Yelp
$21 for salami, tomatoes, bread and lettuce. So expensive it's offensive. The food is good, but not couture sandwich good.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I have been a fan of Hi-Rise over a good many years but I won't be going back. The prices have risen faster than a Back Bay hi-rise and the service was just plain rude today. I'm never a fan of someone suggesting I add a 10% tip on take out but I went along with it anyway, however, as I waited, and waited, and waited and was treated rudely by the same woman, I came to regret it. The total for one veggie sandwich and one chicken sandwich plus a vanilla bean cake was just shy of $60, rude snubs included. Er no thanks. Voting with my feet.

Christina B.

Yelp
I did a lot of work on the laptop here throughout the weekend because my airbnb was next door. It was sometimes crowded, and that can be intimidating especially when you just want to hole up in a corner to study. But the ladies working the counter are really nice, and the coffee isn't tragically expensive (slightly less than Starbucks prices). Furthermore, I watched as a patron who was frustrated they didn't "accommodate her" in time (wait ur turn, lady!) but the workers handled it with grace and apologized even though they did nothing wrong lol. I really don't write that many reviews but I wanted to do this one because I saw her bitch at them and want them to know their work didn't go unnoticed. Clearly the locals love this place, so I suppose both the staff combined with the yummy bread are the reasons why!!!!

Graziella M.

Yelp
Extremely rude customer service. My friend and I arrived at 1:35pm, we called from the car and put in an order for a turkey sandwich --hich isn't that great to beging with-- and wainted 30, thirty, minutes for it. The computer order entry shows 1:40pm The sandwhich was delivered at 2:08pm. I called them from my car at 1:57, a girl answered and said it would be a minute. But we waited another 11 minutes. Then a very rude guy with tatoos on his arms delivered the sandwich to the door and not insisted that we waited only 10 minutes, but was so rude as to insult my friend with: "You have no patience!" Who treats their customers like that? Disgusting!

Lance C.

Yelp
Crew is definitely loving what they do. Sip as you watch their regular baking operations - a live baking performance as the team crafts their many breads. At the same time, baked goods head out in bread crates for sale or delivery. I did knock it down for the Large hot drinks being only 16oz and... Who likes GRITTY almond "milk"??? Not me, how about you? I was shocked that the almond milk in my vanilla latte was GRAINY - right from the top. So odd, so bad, they should stop using that brand. _________ Walked back three blocks to take the drink back. They were completely unwavering on the use of their in-house ground almonds. What a misguided pursuit of quality. I even suggested that they liquify (and better yet filter) their almond "milk." On this point, they lost sight of quality. They even justify themselves by saying some customers like the grit. For those customers I say pour boiling water into a bag of ground coffee with almonds, drink up and stay away from easily flattered folks that are trying to serve quality coffee - you've messed them up. Now they think gritty coffee is good. See you on the chuck wagon.

Luke V.

Yelp
Not a lot of selection, and what there is isn't great. The scone was very dry. The bread tasted like it was from the supermarket. The day I was there, the baguettes weren't available until 1 PM. The most basic thing a bakery should have is fresh bread in the morning.

Clarkke K.

Yelp
Went for lunch dining out they apparently have 3 small tables. Very long wait for sandwiches. Finally brought out paper bag, no cutlery no napkins. Asked for hand sanitizer, was told that none can be brought to the outside tables. Probably Cambridge Covid-19 violation. Finally a few napkins arrived to our table, server seemed pissed off, he threw them onto table where they immediately blew onto the ground.hrew Sandwiches are nothing special; rather pricey. Paid by credit card, was told i would get a paper receipt. Never got one. Had to wait additional 10 minutes after we finished out meals to get a paper credit card receipt. Other than that, the weather was fine.

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Unfortunately this bakery is not worth it. The staff were incredibly disorganized with the orders. The breakfast sandwich was very expensive for the amount. I paid $10 for half of a sandwich. It was definitely a disappointing experience.

Evan H.

Yelp
This is a local fixture that I really want to love, and have tried for years. It's a beautiful, spacious, comfortable store with a great vibe, the staff is lovely, and the coffee and some pastries are pretty good. They curate a nice selection of excellent wines and liquors as well. The trouble is that it's sorely lacking in its fundamentals: it's main purpose is to bake bread, but the bread is borderline awful. With all their wonderful equipment, they turn out bread only as good as what comes out of my Mom's $20 bread machine, and that's a huge problem. The texture is bad and the flavor is off. They couple that with sandwich offerings that feel like they were selected by someone with no taste: they're all fine, but also kind of weird, and nothing you'd want to try a second time. There's a lot of potential here, but I feel like they need to close for a few weeks to focus and work things out.

Yelp
Got the quiche and a coconut macaroon. The quiche was not warmed up. The coconut macaroon was delicious but a little bit on the sweet side. And the sandwiches and salads looks interesting but much overpriced for the quality and portion received, which is why I got quiche for lunch. And I'm used to overpriced things, I spend a good i'm out of my free time in New York City end it needs to those prices. I just can't justify $15-18 for a mediocre sandwich. Interesting that they serve wine and whiskey by the bottle, but they almost seemed out of place. Ambience 4 stars Staff 3 stars Food 3.5 stars Value 1 star

Yelp
Love the new Huron Village location; easy to access and cozier than the other site. Wonderful curated selection of wine and spirits, artisanal preserves and of course the divine bread! We ordered the #9, Souk Special, a delicious tuna on ciabatta with an olive tapenade spread, red onions, lettuce and tomato. The secret ingredient is the harissa-spicy and so tasty!! A truly perfect late lunch! The brunch menu looks really good and I plan on coming back for the #54 The Hungry Pickle-yum!!! Limited seating but an expansive central farm table makes for great conversation. Baking area is open for all to witness Hi Rise work their magic. Subtle soundtrack-did we walk in to Frank?-adds to the hospitable vibe. Great experience! check it out!

Yelp
I Do not recommend standing outside to buy a loaf of bread and perhaps they could update the accommodations now that the Covid crisis is waning. there seemed to be several people working inside but no one Rushed to help the people standing in line outside in the cold...

Yelp
This is a really good local bakery and coffee shop. The only thing I've gotten from there that I didn't care for was the quiche. I've been multiple times for coffee, breakfast, and lunch and have been happy with the food and service! Their soups are AMAZING! They've got everything from posole to leek potato carrot soup.

Yelp
They do not list pricing on their menu, and when i went to pay for my meal (two coffees, a sandwich and an order of huevos rancheros) they said it would cost $47. Apparently the sandwich was $18.50 (for pork and veggies on bread). In addition, they said the huevos would take 15-20 mins, which was confusing as it was a bowl of beans with two eggs on top. For Boston and all of its great bakeries, I would say not worth it.

Yelp
Today is National Holocaust Remembrance Day, and I'm celebrating with the only thing I ever get at Hi-Rise -- challah. Their challah is different than most other ones I've had -- it only has a hint of sweetness, which I like. They offer plain or raisin (I've yet to try the raisin one), and it comes in a large loaf for $7 (it's huge!). Happy Challah-Day!

Yelp
Hi-Rise is amazing! Great safety protocols, and they also have a wonderful assortment of groceries and wine. I'd highly recommend coming here for any lunch or small grocery needs- they're a really wonderful local business!

Yelp
We had a few of the baked goods, and the short ribs sandwich. Came back for more of the same sandwich because the flavor is great. The chocolate flavored dessert were good for us as well (we prefer less sugar in general, so if you like your dessert sweeter, it might not be your choice)

Yelp
This sandwich/pastry/bread shop is lovely. The most delicious homemade breads and desserts (their challah looks particularly amazing....I plan to buy some time for a Jewish holiday!). Their sandwiches are also great and unique - my favorite is the Mahatma Gloves, curried chicken salad, spinach and chutney on hearty whole wheat. You can order half sandwich or whole, if you're extra hungry. A communal table for seating.
