"Everyone in the city needs a neighborhood sushi spot. In Hayes Valley, Domo is that place. We keep coming back for the fresh fish, creative rolls, and quick, friendly service. The menu is concise, which is a rare gift at many sushi spots in the city. The special rolls are the main draw here, like the baked Domo roll covered in spicy mayo—which you'll likely eat snuggled up close to your neighbor since this place is almost predominately bar seating. If you don’t live in the area, Domo is still worth the trip when the need for a casual, seafood-centric dinner and some sake strikes. And if you do live in Hayes Valley, even better. You can stop in on your way home from work, yoga, or Biergarten. Food Rundown Domo Roll This is essentially a baked California roll topped with scallops, spicy mayo, unagi glaze, and tobiko and scallions. It's creamy and well-sauced, but not in an overwhelming way. For a baked sushi roll, the Domo is perfectly done. Hot Tuna Roll Another standout specialty roll. Spicy tuna tempura, Sriracha mayo, avocado, tobiko, and unagi soy. It's fried, and warm, creamy but still crunchy. Tuna Poke Taco The tuna poke is superb, which is why we have no problem getting it as a side. But Domo also serves it tostada-style on top of the airiest tempura nori ever. Get this. Nigiri The nigiri here is bright, fresh, and presented with all the usual toppings and sauces, like zingy yuzu paste and ginger. Sashimi The real move is to go with the chef’s choice sashimi plate and let your Type A self go for an hour. It will all work out." - Lani Conway
