Voodoo Vin

Wine bar · East Hollywood

Voodoo Vin - Review - Virgil Village - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

Voodoo Vin is a natural wine bar in Virgil Village with a collection of 400 bottles and a menu of simple small plates that slightly upstages the generous pours. The candlelit space feels like you’re in a barebones café with only a couple of posters on the walls, two communal tables, and a few chairs scattered on the sidewalk. It’s an intimate spot that doesn’t take reservations, so your best bet is to take a few friends who know what “full-bodied” means and snack on a few of the Persian-leaning dishes, like shallot yogurt dip with sagnak and lamb-stuffed peppers. Voodoo Vin doesn’t take reservations, but finding a seat isn’t usually an issue. Consider it a reliable spot when you can’t be bothered to make a dinner reservation or go to the same Happy Hour the third week in a row. - Sylvio Martins

baby battista

Wine bar · Atwater Village

Find a Hidden Sipping Cellar at Atwater Village’s Nico’s Wine Shop | Eater LA

Tucked in the cellar level below the bottle shop, Baby Battista is a cozy wine bar that follows the same low-intervention, farmer-focused sourcing ethos and lets guests buy bottles upstairs to drink downstairs for a $20 corkage fee. I found a regular offering of 12 rotating wines by the glass plus a weekly wine flight, and the menu includes meat and cheese plates Peltier used to dole out from her colorful Italian mini-truck as well as a build-your-own snack plate with Marcona almonds, cornichons, and bread from Bub and Grandma’s. The downstairs design lands between midcentury and ’80s Art Deco—with a wide leather couch and chrome lighting fixtures—and the bar aims to be a welcoming neighborhood spot; it opened January 23, 2024 and is open Sunday–Tuesday 5:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. and Wednesday–Saturday 5:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m. - Rebecca Roland
