"Anybody who’s tried to drive down Venice Boulevard in Culver City at 4pm knows what pain is. So pull over, grab a glass of wine at Stanley’s, and let everybody else rip their hair out. This hybrid spot along Venice is more wine shop than anything else, but the tiny bar right off the entrance is a pleasant place to post up with a glass of Chardonnay and not be bothered. Happy Hour runs from 3-6pm on weekdays (plus all day on Tuesdays) and gets you $7 draft beer, $10 glasses of wine, and a $20 charcuterie board." - nikko duren

"Stanley’s in Sherman Oaks doesn’t try to reinterpret the chinese chicken salad, but it does perfect it. Everything about this classic version is light, bright, and kind of impossible not to eat at a ferocious rate, from the juicy shredded chicken to the generous drizzle of tangy sesame dressing that coats every piece of lettuce. It’s also not weighed down by fried wonton strips—instead, crunchy rice noodles, slivered almonds, and a reasonable amount of mandarin oranges are showered on top. If you’re looking for more of an agrodolce feel, opt for Amy’s Grapefruit Salad, which swaps in avocado and is made with the same delicious dressing." - brant cox, cathy park, sylvio martins, arden shore
"Some people emulate a “Y2K” aesthetic on Instagram, but Stanley’s in Sherman Oaks is Y2K at its core. The menu at this casual daytime spot could double as an early 2000s lunch time capsule, with cheese pizzas topped with sun-dried tomatoes, a thick turkey burger with a note that says “It’s great!” and a legendary chinese chicken salad with the right amount of mandarin slices and tangy sesame dressing. There's a reason why Warner Bros execs and publicists have been taking meetings over their grilled artichoke appetizer for three decades plus." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park, garrett snyder
