"Set in a tranquil spot beside Chilaw Lagoon, this joint project between a local NGO and an international environmental organisation is the world’s first mangrove museum, offering interpretive displays about different mangrove species, the wildlife they support and their role in protecting the coastline. Visitors can arrange boat trips with knowledgeable staff to see wildlife firsthand, and explore a large mangrove nursery where saplings are grown and replanted by women from nearby villages as part of a scheme to economically empower communities while involving them directly in restoration work." - Catherine Davison
