"Originally the Sassoon House, later the Cathay Hotel, this Twenties Art Deco building, one of the first skyscrapers in Shanghai, is now a perfectly modern luxury hotel: the Fairmont Peace Hotel. The hotel’s aesthetic character remains intact, but Fairmont’s vaunted consistency and professionalism means there are no unwanted surprises. The location, where the Bund meets Nanjing Road, could hardly be more cenral.
