Yelp
The Ferry Building is one of my very favorites places to visit...ever. Not just in SF, but just plain anywhere. It's historic, vast, and full of amazing food, drinks, cheese, beer, wine, books, ephemera, doo-dads, knick knacks, bric-a-brac, and all the things that make this city diverse and amazing. On my most recent visit to SF, my hotel was nearby so I ended up visiting the Ferry Building twice. The first was for a tasty takeout lunch on my first day in town. I grabbed some sushi to-go and brought it back to my hotel room (which, coincidentally, also had a view of the Ferry Building). The next day, I headed back for lunch again, enjoying a hot dog outdoors at the Ferry Building's resident brewhouse. It was a great place to eat, sip, and people watch on a busy weekday afternoon in the city. The Ferry Building also, not surprisingly, has ferries. You can take one across the bay to a few different locations. Years ago, I rode a bicycle from the city all the way to Tiburon, and took the ferry back. This is back when I did things like ride a bike to Tiburon, take a ferry back, and not die due to the physical exertion!

Yelp
While expensive and busy, the Ferry Building is still a must-see. It's filled with high quality, small business made products. Even though pricy, the food and goods are delicious and well worth it. It's also a great place for buying gifts! My friend and I went Christmas shopping here, along with having rice plates and ice cream. It was all delicious. Coming here always reminds me how beautiful the city is.

Yelp
Touristy of course, but so much fun! There are so much to look at and so much to eat! The place is beautiful with tall ceilings. And even though the hallways are wide it still feels congested with the amount of people there. Just be prepared for small crowds on weekends~ There are lots of eat. We have Bombolonis from Belleria. The custard and Nutella ones are really good. Oceans maladasa is a new stand and we tired ube and passion fruit ones. The empanadas from El Porteño Empanadas is delicious too. It's incredibly hard to resist the temptations here haha.

Yelp
The Ferry Building was our last stop of a long day of sightseeing before returning to our hotel before dinner. Most shops and food stalls were getting ready to close up as we walked through. We had a shrimp and chive pastry and alfajores at El Porteño. The camarones was delicious and hit the spot for a pre-dinner snack. The Alfajores was pretty sweet but went perfectly with the coffees from Blue Bottle. Shops were neat to walk through and the restrooms were clean. Ended the day eating at the benches just outside the building. Great views!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go to buy San Francisco gifts for my friends, especially for those overseas is browsing through the Ferry Building. While shopping, there are also yummy places to grab a bite, like El Porteno's wonderful empanadas and tasting treats from Dandelion chocolates, such as their frozen hot chocolate drink. It's just a fun lively indoor market, but beware: weekends can get packed, so I suggest going on weekdays if you can.

Yelp
I've been to San Francisco many times, so I wasn't expecting to find this gem of a warehouse filled to the brim with food stalls, shops, and the like. Kheem here on a Friday afternoon for lunch at hog Island oysters, and spent 2 to 3 hours shopping, browsing and snacking my way through the ferry building. There are some great spots including a mushroom stall, a boutique/vintage/new clothing store, dandelion chocolate, and so many more. Really happy to find this unexpected spot

Yelp
I came back from Sausalito on the ferry and stopped in for a coffee. It's funny because I saw all the restaurants on the water side and grabbed a coffee at Red Bay. We sat at the coffee shop for a bit figuring out our next move and then before leaving I realized there was a whole other side of the building full of vendors. It was later in the day so some of them were closing, but we walked around and checked out what they had to offer before grabbing some tacos at Cholita Linda. Later in the week I was in charge of organizing a small lunch group so we went to the Ferry Building again. This is a great spot for a lunch group since there are so many choices... even though we all ate at Senor Sisig Plus you have the water and you can grab a coffee at Blue Bottle on the way out.

Yelp
Me and my partner went to the Ferry Building yesterday and it was very nice. We enjoyed the beautiful weather views and sights especially during a hot day in the Bay Area. There were plenty of tourists so I believe tourism is bouncing back harder than a jumpy house. The ferry building has a lot to offer with a variety of good coffee and shops.

Yelp
I guess another update is appropriate with the number of recent changes here. The biggest recent news is a staple restaurant, Slanted Door, announced their closure. The closure of another one of the original tenants here, The Slanted Door Restaurant, the list has dwindled. The ones that survived are Hog Island Oyster, Imperial Tea Court, Delica, Boulette Larder, Acme Bread Company, Village Market, Book Passage, Imperial Tea Court, Rechiutti Confectionary, Miette Patisserie, and Stonehouse California Olive Oil. Taylor's Refresher morphed into Gotts Roadside and technically is an original too. There's no shortage of coffee options with Red Bay and Blue Bottle having shops here besides the pop-ups for the farmers' markets. Also gone are Golden Gate Meats, Sur La Table, Cowgirl Creamery, Prather Ranch Meats, Market Bar, and Frog Hollow. The good news is that there are several new local eateries that opened lately and a highly anticipated one, Lunette, which is set to open Sunday. Another revelation here is that there are more events happening such as the ones seen here for May (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=FMdzVRJw4B1RCIw0_JgjvA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). Look for the message board changes (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=K8gKxtU42SXHg8gXqxt6cQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ZdiOvAZINYi7Icje1u39sQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), to see what else will be happening. here. I'm glad that the halls are filling with people, spending more time here. It was sad looking at the dark and empty walkways for so many months. When the offices fill up again with the workforce, hopefully it'll be vibrant throughout the week.

Yelp
It had been about 5 years since I last visited the Ferry Building and I was honestly nervous about what I might find there post-pandemic. Luckily my concerns were unfounded as the building was just as bustling and filled with delicious treats as ever. Sure, there was some turnover, some of my favorite stands were no longer there, but it felt like they were all replaced by some other vendor to fill in the blanks (e.g. Cowgirl Creamery gone but one of the small markets had a really wonderful cheese selection, adios to Boccalone but hello to Fatted Calf, etc) and I didn't see a single empty booth, which was awesome. I only had a bit of time to power shop before I had to head to the airport but in that time I was able to walk up and down twice. I, of course, dropped some cash at my favorite shop, Miette, but also grabbed some chanterelle mushrooms to take home via Far West Fungi, I also sampled some tasty chocolate at Dandelion, grabbed a few bars and treats from Recchiuti Confections, a cold brew to go from Blue Bottle, and a couple of empanadas for lunch from El Porteño Empanadas. Not a bad haul for a quick trip! My favorite thing to do is still head in there to pick up snacks and treats for a picnic somewhere in the city but even if you only have a few minutes to spare it's still worth visiting!

Yelp
What a darling space to come eat, shop, drink, and pick up local goodies! We walked over here from a work conference for lunch and I wished we'd had more time. We stopped at Delica for lunch, sat out on the tables in the sun to watch the ferries and boats go by, then stopped and got a gluten-free dessert and walked through some of the darling shops. Similar to a food hall experience, this is a great place to come if you're in a group and can't decide what to get. Everyone can pick their own! I love the variety of local businesses highlighted in here - it makes eating, shopping, and gifting so easy while in San Francisco.

Yelp
It was such a nice day yesterday here in San Francisco that I decided to take some photos along the Embarcadero. I happened to pass by the Ferry Building Market Place and decided to check out some of the stores and restaurants there. It was so great to see so many people walking through the Ferry Market and just having a great time strolling past all of the cute little shops. I saw merchants selling things like pastries, bagels, candles, jewelry, wine, cheese, tea and books. What a great place to shop at on a beautiful Sunday morning!

Yelp
I'm a sucker for a water front building and the Ferry Building is just that. I was lucky enough to stay only a block away so my colleagues and I took full advantage of the amazing weather and took a walk over to explore the many vendor options. We eventually landed on the Tea room for dim sum and were pleasantly pleased. The building itself has a very regal and old fashioned feel. It's easy to get lost in the options but it's also fun to explore.

Yelp
The Ferry Building gets everything right. My 2nd year enjoying the fundraiser Love Bites, $30 for 10 tastings of food or wines, Napa wines to be exact, that's what caught my attention. An opportunity to try 20 Napa Vintners all under one roof, no need to drive here & there, so off I go on the Larkspur Ferry dropping me off at the Gourmet Mecca of San Francisco. As I stand in line to receive my tickets & stemware there is a cute golden retriever, mascot, loaded to the max with Valentine regalia, setting the mood. The Fun & Frivolity is about to begin. The Napa wines are what sparked my interest but the tasty bites were not lacking. The merchants went all out, there were offerings of caviar, focaccia, crepes, tacos, empanades, oysters, egg rolls, cheesecake & more, there was something to please everyone and then some. The presentation was spectacular, the vibe was so fun, casual and easy going, strolling up and down the corridor, looking left & right to see what tasty morsel to try next. It was easy to talk to the vendors as they dished up their offering, the @napavintners are so gracious to be involved in this fundraiser, answering the crowd of guest and going into detail about their award winning wines. Some of my favorite wines were @crocker&starrwines; @turnbull; @fishervineyards but the winning ticket went to @groundedwineco, Josh Phelps was there pouring his wines and his Steady State, Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 was sublime.

Yelp
OMG I could spend all day here!! My hubby and I stopped in to use their restroom after purchasing breakfast from Midnite Bagel and fruit from Rojas Family Farms, both located at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market. Immediately my jaw dropped, so many shops and popular restaurants we wanted to try! This included Dandelion Chocolate we just had to pay a visit to! I would HIGHLY recommend San Francisco's most well-known historical landmark that opened in 1898! We'll definitely be back to check out more of what this grand building has to offer and hopefully soon, my mouth is already drooling thinking about it!! Parking is available nearby at Embarcadero Center Parking or Sea Wall Lot 351. Yelp
A nice spot to check out! I was staying at the hotel less than a 5 minute walk away so this was always fun spot to be by the water and check out the different businesses in here. In the front courtyard there's typically a meet-up or something happening so the place always has people around making it lively! There's a good variety of food and the coffee spot connected here is very tasty. Seafood, Filipino, gelato, a little bit of everything. Catch the sunrise or sunset here!

Yelp
A little of something for everyone! We were in town for a conference and we're not too far from the Ferry Building and decided to walk over to check out al the shops. From Gelato, to American, to Fusion and Dimsum. From boutiques, to hair salons, to all the stunning views of the bridge there's plenty to experience. While walking around, one of my favorite parts was seeing the historic ferry sign turner, and all of the shops curated for all things local. We dined in a restaurant and were able to grab some desserts from another local business then pondered and shopped all within the same building. Couldn't ask for anything better as a tourist. :)

Yelp
LOVE THIS MARKET! Picked up lots of fruits and veggies with lack of sense I was flying back to las Vegas that day. Best to bring a bag with wheels to put purchases in. Bought fresh pie to sit on pier and enjoy. It was hard to find a bottle of water for sale??? Bought lots of tomatoes from different stands! Still in judgement of taste. Wear sunscreen and enjoy!!

Yelp
Indeed a fun place to stroll during a lunch time or anytime in sf where you can see an amazing view of the bay bridge and a place for people watchers The building houses many delicious and unique shops and restaurants. You will be able to fine one that suits your appetite. Absolutely a gold mine and treasure hunt.

Yelp
A nice option adjacent to the ferry that's loaded with delicious options to eat. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
A must-stop whether it is your first, fifth, or five hundredth time in San Francisco. The Ferry Building is stuffed with wonderful local businesses, from bread to books, coffee to cheesecake, empanadas to fungi to garden supplies to hummus to ice cream to juice to... you get the idea. My recommendation is to take public transit and avoid the stress of parking. Enter the marketplace and walk a full loop of the building to see everything. Then pick out a few places and make a food crawl for yourself. Give yourself plenty of time as it can get crowded and lines can be long, but when you're not in a rush that's just called people watching. Whatever you do, be sure to eat at least one thing outside under the sun and near the water. Enjoy!

Yelp
When you look at the clocktower of the Ferry Building just know that eyeballs have been beholding that same clocktower for over 125 years. Pretty cool. It's crazy enough thinking about my dad working in this iconic building back in the early eighties, so it's really wild to imagine it in 1898 when it was first built. The Ferry Building has a long history of hustle and bustle. I love that it's a one stop shop for all things local and for all things that San Francisco and the Bay Area are really all about; ocean views, the freshest seafood, farm-to-table everything, and exemplary artisans and artists. There are multiple restaurants, bars, bakeries, coffee shops, marketplaces, gift stores, boutiques, and more more more inside. There are also farmers markets that take place right outside the Ferry Building every week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (Saturday is the bigger market) -- purchase directly from local farmers and makers. My personal favorite finds here are Mariposa Bakery and Grande Crêperie. Stay tuned for my glowing reviews of them both.

Yelp
A tourist stop worth checking out. Lots of beautiful artisan stores and restaurants, bakeries. Beautiful feel of local eateries to entice your tastebuds!

Yelp
This market is awesome! I couldn't remember right away, but once I stepped inside, memories started flooding back of going through the giant building over a decade ago. I can't quite remember with my sis, but I definitely went with one of my best friends. The market is pleasant to walk through, and the layout makes window shopping quite fun. From the entrance, you've got shops and restaurants to the left. And you've got even more of those to the right! Straight ahead, as the name suggests, you will actually find the gates to board ferries to ride to other places! There are self-service kiosks near the gates for you to get your tickets. Back to the market though... From famous chocolates and unique cheesecakes to Filipino-Mexican fusion and a book store, they have a lot to offer. Eating outside is really nice when the weather is cooperative. During peak lunch hours though, watch out -- you might have to settle for a bench. I suggest you don't go when you're in a rush... Take time to explore and take it all in. Enjoy your visit!
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
This is such a fun option if you're visiting the area. There's a wide variety of shops and local vendors. It can get very busy around peak hours, so if you're looking for something quick, I would avoid the busiest lunch and dinner times. If you go early or late though you'll be able to enjoy the different options without as crazy a crowd. There is outdoor seating by the water as well which is so fun and many of the restaurants have designated seating. Make sure you stay aware of pricing too, it is a touristy area and there are some elevated products here that will run you a little more than what you'd typically expect. You can be the judge though, a lot of people swear by the brands and the quality.
google avatar

Holly K.

Yelp
I love the Ferry Building! On my latest trip to San Francisco my hotel was only a block away so I was able to quickly visit often. I like that you can pretty much find whatever type of food you are in the mood for. The highlights being Hog Island and Dandelion chocolate for me. I also love that they have a bookstore tucked in here as well. The views are awesome and while the restaurants have their own outdoor seating, there is still a decent sized communal seating area. Also love the old fashion ferry board, especially when it updates the departure times! Overall such a fun spot to snack, shop, and spend some time wandering around.

Yelp
The Ferry Building Marketplace is a fantastic spot on San Francisco's Embarcadero that's definitely worth a visit. This lively venue is filled with an impressive range of eateries and shops, from delicious gelato and dim sum to diverse American and fusion dishes. The interior is vast and filled with a mix of unique boutiques, delightful snacks, and various other finds. The views of the bridge are stunning, adding to the charm of the place. Note that while dogs aren't allowed and parking can be a bit of a hassle (though there are bike racks available), the experience is well worth it. Access is convenient with BART, taxis, trolleys, and ferry boats all nearby. Inside, the air conditioning provides a nice break from the outside hustle. As a San Francisco icon, the Ferry Building is a perfect spot for a day of exploration, great food, and fantastic views. Don't forget your camera--there's something special for everyone here!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing spot! This is just like Quincy Market in Boston, but in SF. One of my favorite things is being reminded of home in some way when I travel. This definitely did that for me. Oh, and add on the perk that this had way less people walking around than Quincy Market so I never felt rushed in any way. This place is full of local vendors that offer all kinds of stuff. The amount of food options alone (fast casual food and/or sit down restaurants) was enough to impress, but as you walk around you notice all the greatness in the bakeries, coffee shops, gift shops, wine cellars, etc. I had come by here on my first day with some coworkers and we got oysters, fries, and drinks right on the water overlooking the bridge on a warm sunny day. Life is good. I came back to the Ferry Building a day or two later during my lunch break with other coworkers and was so impressed by how clean and fairly quiet it was inside for lunchtime. Loved it here!
google avatar

Fiona T.

Yelp
I had some time to kill so I decided to walk around the Ferry Building. There are so many cute small businesses, food stalls, and restaurants. I'm excited to come back during the day when everything is open. There are 2 bathrooms in convenient locations in the building and all the doors have access to the dock in the back. There's something for everyone here. Highly recommend a Saturday morning here
google avatar

Meg B.

Yelp
My first experience here was in 2013, and more than a decade later this place still blows my mind. It was my first experience in a "food hall" of sorts. Lots of great options with a vast variety of cuisines. I love getting blue bottle coffee here and just walking around perusing the space. Gorgeous views as well!
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
One of the iconic tourist spots in the city. Has good views of the bay bridge and home to the ferries but also lots of great food options and shopping. delicious food from coffee, tacos, baked goods, cheese, bread, and oysters. Lots of vendors and shopping option also.
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
Always a cool part of San Francisco for tourists and locals. You can grab an amazing empanada, by your clipper card at the Bay crossings shop, visit one of the best mushroom themed stores in California, and board your ferry here. You'll find public bathrooms. Unfortunately, I'm not thrilled with the coffee choices at the ferry building. Blue bottle is way overpriced and they don't even have non-fat milk.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Love coming here when we are in SF. They have a little bit of everything here. From produce to specialty stores and shoppes . The have fantastic bread places which I like. Love the bread in the City. It was the weekend so pretty packed but not a problem. The lines for most places were still acceptable. So many backed goods and fresh food. Try to make a trip here sometime.
google avatar

Tracy S.

Yelp
Several restaurants in this building look wonderful and they have a few of the water looks very busy for Tuesday, cannot wait to try this place again!
google avatar

Ana B.

Yelp
I was here off hours for a work event. And the venue is stunning! I need to come back to visit the shops as it's a market. But the upstairs portion where our event was magical. The bathrooms are rather oddly placed. You have to walk to either end to access but I was impressed with the tall ceilings and got to see the outside of the closed storefronts. Next time I'm in San Francisco will be sure to check out the vendors!
google avatar

Vesakha T.

Yelp
I'm in love with this place. The food selection is really great. There's an ice cream place that I love but I forgot the name. Make sure when your friend pick you up that you aren't holding ice cream and dipping all over you. I love feeling I was in a time zone.
google avatar

Maruko X.

Yelp
The Ferry Building is not only a tourist hotspot, and it's also a transit center, serving as a hub from which locals and visitors start their adventures around the area. The building has also housed a retail marketplace with dozens of local merchants, makers, and restaurants since twenty years ago. There is also often outdoor market as well, farmers market and flea market type right in front of the piers.
google avatar

Shane S.

Yelp
NY Times named this the best farmer's market in the US. I concur. They have amazing produce from greens mushrooms salsa sprouts tofu vegan donuts and is huge. Do yourself a favor check them out if in SF.
google avatar

Debra M.

Yelp
A nice place to visit if you are in the area. I was walking by and decided to peruse the area. There are several shops. It was quite early and not a lot open. I believe they have a farmers market on certain days.. It is kind of touristy Give it a look if you're in the mood.
google avatar

Skylar W.

Yelp
A must visit in SF! Though we didn't eat anything inside, we perused the shops and got a great view of the water out the back way. There are tons of food and drink stalls from coffee and breakfast to caviar and chocolate, specialty grocers and more! It was clean despite how busy, and I definitely would have loved to spend more time here.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Great views - high end retailers and restaurants. Great mix of everything. Clean bathrooms. Lovely!

Yelp
Yes, Yes, Yes! Some of the best food we've had on our California trip! Fun vibe, Lots of outdoor seating! I thought of it like a trip to EPCOT for us Disney Adults!
google avatar

Mimi L.

Yelp
A public market at ferry building pier 1, place is very specious with enough good vendors. But most shops close around 5 even on weekends. So it's very different from the long hours of public markets in LA! I suggest to come here around noon so you will have enough time to explore this great market. The views in the back are so gorgeous and a good place to hang out when it's not windy. Just walk outside a bit is pleasant enough really. The ocean views are so nice. We hung out at the caviar restaurant and a wine bar. The food and drinks were good and services were friendly. Also got a few bottles of reserved wines and Champagne to take to dinners later. I really liked how not crowded this public market was. Can't beat the ocean views! I'd come here every week for the gorgeous views if I lived here!
google avatar

Terence L.

Yelp
An SF classic! A must for visitors and locals alike. Sporting a great Farmers Market on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and a great collection of stores every day, the Ferry Building will have something for everyone. Although the prices are a bit high, you can't beat the variety. My personal favorite is newcomer Senior Sisig! Highly recommend if you are looking for a quintessential SF experience!
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
I feel cheated if I get to San Francisco and don't make it to the Ferry Building. Bonus points for a Saturday morning when the area surrounding the Ferry Building is filled with vendors selling everything from local produce & honey to hand made bottle openers & jewelry. For my most recent visit, which happened to be a Saturday morning, I grabbed a latte from Blue Bottle and made my way to a bench with a view of the bay to enjoy it. It's the perfect place to buy a gift, get lunch and grab some local produce and flowers to take home. It can be a little crowded, but the layout keeps everyone moving.

Yelp
Date: 3/26/2023 Time: 1:50 PM 53° Sunny As many times I have visited this building in the past years ago, why I have never written a review is beyond me. Farm Fresh to You used to be here. They had all sorts of organic produce, meats and snacks. They're gone; however, Miette is still here with their macarons, shortbread cookies and other sweet delights. Peet's Coffee is no longer there. They have been replaced by Red Bay Coffee, which is a good thing. Over three months ago I saw an article on Facebook re: the top ten cities for foodie places to visit in this country. The illustration on that post was the Ferry Marketplace, which ranked #3. Quite impressive, I must say. Besides restaurants, there are other retail businesses, bakeries, Humphry Slocombe ice cream (line was long). I love this place, and definitely more visits in the future by my friend and I when the weather is warmer. Yay!
google avatar

Tsai-Anne J.

Yelp
I love it here. Every time my family ventures to SF we visit, mainly because I have to go to Mariposa. There is always a market or some kind of event every time I've been. Though it is crowded it is clean and the bathrooms are also. With so many options and vendors how can you not love it!
google avatar

Yelp
This farmers market is so cute!! I'm a big fan of farmers markets and the one in the ferry building is one of the nicest I've been to. There were a lot of tents and vendors, not to mention the usual stores inside the ferry building which was also fun to walk around. We got the thousand layer cake, which is a pandan dessert and it was super yummy! Not too sweet which is perfect for a dessert I'm looking for. Prices are definitely not cheap, but most farmers markets are like that so no surprise. Definitely come visit if you find yourself free on a Saturday morning!
