The Best Cocktail Bars In Philly

"You know you’re in a good cocktail bar when it’s full of people asking the bartender for another. And that’s exactly what you’ll hear at Rittenhouse’s One Tippling Place. All of the cocktails are full of straightforward ingredients like bitters, honey, and vodka, so you won’t have to pretend to know the name of a 100-year-old rare campari on a date. There’s a long bar and a few candle-lit round tables just big enough for two. But there are a few couches if you come with friends for  $15 ivy gimlets, or just need a place to stretch out after having one too many.     " - candis mclean

Great speakeasy with some good cocktails, the seating and atmosphere is definitely worth the visit in the area

I used to be a regular here and always really enjoyed it. It was always a nice space with really solid drinks and bartenders. I’m not sure if this is due to new management or what, but coming in lately has just been an abysmal experience. It’s not the drinks either - those are still solid and the new menu is great with some new additions like the Junglebird, which is made super well. However, their seating situation is just awful. The first time we came here after these changes, we waited almost 30 minutes without being even asked for our group size. Instead, several groups which were assumed to be larger were seated ahead of us. That’s fine, we understand why this might be done, but there were open tables which could have sat our group which we just were ignored for. We came back a second time and it got even more ridiculous. There were several clearly open tables which we couldn’t be sat for because our group was too small. We asked if other people in line could just sit with us so the table(s) could be claimed, and everyone in line was happy to do so, and we basically just got blown off and told to wait. I own a local bar also, I understand management quirks and house rules 100% and don’t blame anyway per-se but at least tell us what the deal is. Even if you’re busy, We shouldn’t have to guess whether an open table can be sat at or not and why/why not that’s the case. Moreso, service shouldn’t be like actively ignoring questions on wait time or seating arrangement. Anyway drinks are still great but you have to actually sit first.

Great mixologists. Eclectic space with bar and lounge seating

LOVE THIS BAR! If you’re looking for a low key super cool bar this is the place. This is like a open speak easy bar The entrance isn’t well decorated (on purpose) and can be easily missed! But once you walk in you will be blown away by how cool and cozy the bar is! They have a bunch of velvet chairs and leather couches and is well decorated with large paintings, mirror, and other decor The drinks are also really well made and decently priced! (Not too expensive at all compared to other nicer bars) The drinks we got was the Virgin maid (a grapefruit cocktail with egg white on top - sooo good!!) and the blackmail (rum, lime, honey, blackberry and champagne)

Google
Had a few drinks here with the lovely bartender Alyssa(sp?!) looking out for me and showing me the good stuff. Of course fancypants mcgee here had to go for the most expensive cocktail on the list, but The Waldorf is absolutely worth it! (Tobacco Road and Bombay Moon were beautiful too don't get me wrong) Next time I'm in the area I'll try a few of their enormous assortment of whiskey's, I counted like 170ish on the shelves, lord knows what goodies they have in their secret stash... well worth the trip 👌

Went for happy hour on a random Thursday night. It was not too crowded but certainly not dead either. Atmosphere was perfect for lounging and having a drink and some food. I ordered the Moscow mule and the meatballs, both were great and definitely worth the price. Very neat place with a friendly staff. I would recommend it and plan on going back the next time I'm in the city.

Google
Delicious cocktails in what feels like homey environment. The mixologists know what they are doing and are very friendly. If you aren't sure what you want, chat with them and they'll make you the perfect cocktail!

Google
With a speakeasy feel, I found the atmosphere quite enjoyable for a drink with a friend. Great cocktails- service isn't speedy, but the drinks are worth the wait. A decent scotch collection as well (see photo). Even on a Saturday night you could still have a conversation with the people around, which I appreciate.

Yelp
One of our favorite cocktail bars in the city! This was our second time here. Both times we have had the friendliest and most helpful bartenders ever. They talked to me and my husband almost the entire time we were there. It was an off night on a Tuesday so not many people there. Which is what my husband loves. Drinks were expertly made with fresh ingredients. They have a cocktail menu, but can also make drinks off the menu if you give them flavors you like they will make a custom drink for you. We love that. Prices were reasonable too. We will be back , next time we're in the area for dinner or something!

Yelp
A friend brought me here for drinks after a show. This is a beautifully decorated and comfortable space with lots of easy chairs and sofas where you can kick back and enjoy a drink and some small bites. We each got gin-based seasonal drinks that were very good. A wonderful place to pass some time. It gets quite busy on weekends, but we didn't wait long to be seated.

Yelp
We had some friends over this weekend and have a reservation at a Thai restaurant and needed to kill an hour. Someone recommended this place for a drink and here we are. Ambiances - top notch. Reminds me of a NY whiskey bar. Very cozy and semi formal kinda vibe. Mix of couches, sofa chairs and tables. Cocktails. Let's first start with the menu. I think they can get a lot more creative with their cocktail menu. For a place with such an awesome vibe, the munu was rather limited and lacked creativity. The Waldorf - I ordered this one. I thought it was good. The right blend of bourbon, bitters and absinthe. I hate when absinthe overpowers the drink, but this was great Tobacco Rd - very average and more on the sweater side El Diablo - I think this was terrible. Very overpowering on the ginger and has far too much crushed ice. Very disappointing . Overall only the ambiance and my drink gets this place to a 3. There are a lot more better options imo so I doubt I'm coming here again.

Yelp
My friends and I were talking about it how it is hard nowadays to find a cozy place to have cocktails, and have conversations without loud music playing in the background. Well, I think we found our perfect place. This place has couches, tables, and a bar to offer cozy places for hanging out and have music at a good volume that you're not screaming at each other to have a conversation. They're drinks are delicious and the service was attentive!

Yelp
Been wanting to check out 1 Tippling Place for a long time now and have to say, I was pretty disappointed. They're going for the speakeasy, old timey vibe, which I get, but everything about this place looks so worn out. Some of the furniture really need to be replaced. The cocktails on the menu do not look fun and could have been cool maybe a decade ago. My husband and I came by for pre-dinner drinks and ordered a couple of cocktails. I had the Bombay Moon which had none of the Masala Chai flavors it advertised. My husband had the El Diablo, and the ginger in it overpowered the entire drink, but he didn't seem to mind it. Overall, the cocktails were strong and not enjoyable.

Yelp
1 Tippling Place was the third stop on our Philly bar crawl, and the staff graciously accommodated our large group. The space has dim golden lighting, aged oak furniture, and walls lined with portraits in heavy ornate frames. The ambiance of a traditional English pub encourages a slow, deliberate pace--perfect for savoring a pint of real ale while lost in thought or conversation. The space feels inviting and contemplative, where quiet conversations about literature or philosophy could unfold.

Yelp
Feels like a movie set as in "fake". Too many spot lights and floating windows and fake walls trying to add some character to the open room, i honestly kept looking for the hidden camera because I thought this bar was built for some hidden reality tv show. Stools and misc leather chairs in the front that feel like a Living room with a bar and 4 high tops in the back, and a builtin sofa at the very back Drinks are "craft cocktails" but other than the excessive shaking of the shakers, theres no craft at al to the drinks My paloma had no salt on the glass, used fresh grapefruit juice and orange peel garnish...it was dessert level sweet with no tequila flavor. the three other cocktails we tried were just as disappointing. Started with the baked brie appetizer. Small puck of brie is covered in fig jam then wrapped in philo dough and baked, then served with a side of yellow mustard and crackers...so many things wrong with this dish! #1 wjere the bread. #2. The fog jam is too sweet after being baked, and it infises with the brie as it melts...there should be a bright fresh berry ontop of the philo crust after it bakes to offer contrast to the bries sweetness...overall, way too sweetafter a few disappointing rounds of overpriced "craft cocktails" Nd a bad app, we cut our losses and left. Will def. ot come back here.

Warren Is No Longer On Yelp W.

Yelp
Sad to say that I revisited this place (under duress) after an initial negative experience 6 years ago, only to encounter an even more negative one. 2 friends from New Mexico were in Philly for a whirlwind visit and they insisted on going here. When I told them about my unpleasant initial visit, they both suggested I get over myself and stop depriving myself and them of the joys of Philadelphia. Ummm....okay. We arrived here about 30 minutes after opening. There were no customers at the bar and only 3 small groups seated and drinking. We stood at the entry way and were pointedly ignored for 10 minutes. We got the very broad hint and left. As we headed towards what I knew would be a satisfying happy hour at Veda, I asked my 2 visiting friends just exactly who was being deprived of the "joys" of Philadelphia. No answer. Hey 1 Tippling Place-fool me once, shame on you. Twice? You'll never see my face or money again. The passage of time has not been kind to this faux speakeasy. It needs a deep cleaning-upholstery, drapes, carpeting-and some new paint along with a staff attitude adjustment and a course in courtesy-for starters. P.S.-Both my visitors apologized to me before they left.

Yelp
We stopped in early, before a nearby dinner reservation, so we were able to settle into a cozy sofa and enjoy a drink without a crowd. Great cocktail, excellent service. The staff seem to really care about what they do. Made me wish I lived on this side of town again so I could become a regular. My husband's fish house punch was great. I loved my "blackmail:" rum, lime, honey, blackberry, and sparkling water. The bar was closed for an event, so I made a vow to return soon to sit at the bar and get to know them a little better.

Yelp
Excellent craft cocktails and service! The atmosphere was perfect for an intimate gathering.

Yelp
We were excited to finally be in the area when 1 Tippling Place was open! We couldn't resist stopping in for a cocktail (or 2)! The space is really cute and cozy, and the staff is super friendly! We stopped in fairly early on a slower night (Tuesdays), but it still started to pick up by the time we left. We sat at the bar and were really impressed by their extensive whisky/whiskey selection. Any time you see such an offering in PA, you know the establishment has put in the work to procure their spirits! I was really excited, but also completely overwhelmed, so I just stuck with cocktails. My wife and I both ordered an Old Fashioned to start. I went with a rye, and she went with bourbon. They use solid options for their well whiskeys, but you can sub in any other whiskey (at a cost, obviously). Both were wonderful! I followed with a "Wall Street," which was a Manhattan, made with their own barrel of Knob Creek rye, house vermouth, bitters. Also very good! Overall, we were sad that it took so long for us to stop in after 3 years of living in Philly, but we're glad we finally made the trip. Between the amazing whiskey/whisky options, the solid cocktail menu, the cozy space, and wonderful staff, there's no doubt we'll be back soon to imbibe! Cheers!

Yelp
We found ourselves a block away on a Thursday night, so why not try this place I never heard of. My wife had it on her list, so we made a quick walk. Like a fool, I couldn't quite get in at first, looking at a sign on a wall and looking at a locked door. Then my wife says, it's right here. Oops... We get in and this is the first place to card us and check our vaccination cards, to ensure the names match up. We were told to sit anywhere and walked past a lot of sofas to get to the bar. A menu was already at our spot and I ordered the penicillin. Scotch, with ginger, honey, lemon. A smile, prettier than on our wedding day, crept onto my wife's face as she prepared to "customize" an order since she saw on Yelp you could do that. The bartender was incredibly friendly and said he'd try to do anything he could. He asked her precise questions about her flavor profile and said he had an idea. Soon our drinks were made and brought over to us. When at cocktail bars with mixologists, I prefer to sit at the bar, to watch the masters create. I took one sip of my drink and fell in love. May I just recommend if you really enjoy ginger, to order a ginger drink from here? It's among the best I've ever had. Chris, one of our cocktail creators, explained their process of juicing the ginger, rather than boiling. Being someone who boils ginger, I contemplated whether I should purchase a specific juicer to make this... My wife laughed and said she knows what she is getting me for my birthday... Ordering two more rounds of drinks, we were then presented with the bill at 10:00 PM. That's when they close, but we were going to request the check anyways. We'll be back and this place will be added into the rotation. We don't make it out this way as often, but a solid ending to our evening...

Tyler C.

Yelp
Highly recommend for a cozy yet chic night cap. While my espresso martini lacked three beans, and my luck is at risk, it was probably the best one I've ever had. The old fashioned was also delectable. Don't come hungry as the snacks are limited.

Yelp
Came here after waiting a very long time at Ranstead Room on the waitlist (we finally gave up and checked out this cocktail bar instead)! We were seated automatically at 1 Tippling Place and we are so glad we ended up here instead. The atmosphere was very stylish, and our server was helpful and attentive. All of the drinks are made with housemade syrups! I tried the Dragon's Tear and the Lavender 75. The Dragon's Tear was very sweet for me (a bit too much honey for my taste), but still tasted fresh! I LOVED the Lavender 75, it was refreshing and light!

Yelp
Went here for drinks with the girls and I will say the ambience is def giving vintage and nyc vibe. I honestly didn't know this place existed. The music was good but over powered by people talking. The seating is set up kinda weird with couches and chairs in little sections but it gives an intimated cocktails in the living room vibe and I like that. Customer service was not that great. We kept having to search for the waiter and I don't think it was that busy. The drinks itself were subpar. I think the drink menu was very limited didn't have much variety of alcohol so I ordered off menu and while they said they could make it, it was not great. And for the price point of these drinks I expect them to be strong and it was just not worth it. This place is great for a day night and the ambience but for the price the drinks and service could use improvement. The drinks

Yelp
Strangest thing about Philly - there's no standing room around bars. If there's no seats available, they don't let you sit. Or maybe that's just 1 Tippling. I came here to wait after putting my name down at Ranstead for 2 seats at the bar, walked up to the bar, and was rudely told by the bartender that were no seats available and to go somewhere else. Two patrons at the bar told me they were leaving and I could have their seats and he said "actually there's people in front of you". They told me not to listen to him and I could have their seats, because he had sent everyone else away in the same manner, and there was no one else. So, I stood and chatted with them for 10-15 minutes, and when they left, I took their seats and he seemed to have no problem with it. From there, everything was fine. The cocktails were okay (not one of the best old fashioned's I've had) and there was no more rudeness, so I still left a 20% tip on 3 drinks. The place itself is very charming and cute - I loved the vibe - cozy yet hip. Were it not for that initial encounter I'd definitely give it 4 stars, but given the rudeness level I just can't.

Yelp
I visited 1 Tippling for the first time this past Saturday as a part of my sister's bachelorette party. We made a reservation in advance and got a cozy seat by the window as soon as we arrived. Most of the space is taken up by couches and armchairs, so it feels very loungy (but also a little bit like an English sitting room). are bar seats and at least a couple of tables as well. I ordered the Mexican strawberry, and others in the group got the Lavender 75 and a whisky and eggwhite drink (there's a name for this; I just don't know it ). They were all tasty and pretty strong, so I definitely felt a lil buzz going. I believe they used to serve food, but it's unclear if they still do. The menus they gave us didn't have food on them--just a couple of drinks. Though they happily made my sister something off menu. I'm sure if you ask they can make something to your taste. It's pretty chilly inside so just bring a sweater (/blanket for the couch?!)
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Came here for drinks on a Saturday night. I ordered the Mexican Strawberry. It tasted okay only because I felt like I was mainly drinking cucumber water. The ambiance was nice. Service was good. It can get busy here.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
The cocktails here are soo delicious. They have a small menu but allow you to customize your drinks. I tried a strawberry Moscow mule which tasted like it had fresh pressed ginger with a nice kick! It also came with a little ginger candy on top. I also tried this lavender gin drink and Blackmail which is a blackberry gin cocktail. All delicious! My favorite was probably the mule and second favorite was Blackmail.

Yelp
came by for drinks before dinner and had a great time! inside is super cozy and drinks were delicious. the bartenders were also very fun to talk to will def be back again!

Yelp
Great spot! (Somewhat) hidden hole in the ground cocktail bar! Some of my friends call it a speakeasy, but it's not truly hidden. The drinks here are amazing and it's a grea0t place to go on a date. The environment is really cozy and antique. Be warned, it can get somewhat crowded. I recommend just trying everything on the menu over multiple visits; so far, their Old Fashioned is a solid choice and their Penicillin is also pretty good.
google avatar

Nicki P.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday around 5PM, so not quite busy yet, but filled up fast. Ordered 2 drinks before heading out to dinner. Both drinks were perfectly crafted, and tasted amazing. Can't get drinks like this in the suburbs. I will come back again and again.
google avatar

Cameron Q.

Yelp
The place was so nice and chic. Our bartender was super nice and attentive. It was not loud so you could talk to other people. Additionally, they seemed to have wide selection of liquors. Many I have not heard of before. Again, I'm not a big drinker. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our drinks very much so. Overall, nice experience.
google avatar

Amit M.

Yelp
Great spot if you're looking for a lowkey spot with great cocktails. You can spend a couple hours here just hanging out and ordering different cocktails. I did the old fashioned penicillin and both were delicious.

Yelp
Having used to go to the Row Zone upstairs pre-pandemic we were always curious about this place. But we never made it in. I suppose that was a miss because this is truly a great spot and we will definitely be back. It's a very cute space with an amazing whiskey selection. I guess I didn't expect the volume that they had as I didn't think it was a whiskey bar, per se. It certainly could pass as one, though. They had a standard list of drinks but there were plenty of other drinks that they can make as well (I went for an old fashioned and a Negroni, and maybe a gin and tonic - it was my anniversary so I had a few cocktails). The staff was so friendly. Like some of the best personalities and service (seems like we have had some good fortune these days as we have had a lot of great service the last few times we have ventured out somewhere which is less frequent these days). I love how intimate some of the seating can be while at the same time, you can also be very social. We sat at the bar and actually met another nice couple who was also celebrating their anniversary. If we wanted something more private, the couches would have been a great option. We will be back soon. I can only imagine when things "normalize" (whatever that may look like), it will be even better.
google avatar

Angie B.

Yelp
I LOVE this spot. Great cocktails in the most beautifully constructed homey space. We parked ourselves on over stuffed chairs and a comfy couch with throw pillows, ordered brandy alexanders and amidst jazz music and low lighting we had great conversation and balanced cocktails. This place is a lot of what is right with the city of Philadelphia.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
A bit overhyped. It's a cozy atmosphere if you can be seated at the bar or lounge chairs but the high tops are a likely option given how busy they get. Drinks are quality but a little pricy. Service was friendly and helpful. They did forget our drinks at one point but I think it was just an off moment. Apparently they offer snacks but no snack menu was shown Curious to try Ranstead to compare.
google avatar

Serena S.

Yelp
Really nice ambience with delicious drinks. We had the mexican strawberry which almost tastes like candy and blackmail which is a delicious fruity treat.

Kelli D.

Yelp
Ambiance is cool, server was nice but we ordered old fashioned's but with Whistle Pig and they whacked us at $37 a cocktail! I realize that it's premium, but we usually don't even pay that much in Manhattan. We paid less for dinner at Parc. The drinks on the menu were must cheaper - $17.
google avatar

Claudia V.

Yelp
Such a cute little spot you can relax and drink! Visited this place after eating and it's the perfect little place to drink. Their cocktails were amazing! We tried almost all of them- my favorites were some type of lavender drink and the punch drink that came in the little tea cup. The waitress was great at recommending the drinks and always checking up on us. Would definitely come again!
google avatar

Judy Z.

Yelp
Super cute place with such a wide variety of cocktails! One of my favorite cocktail bars to date. If you're a fan of grapefruit, they have a few concoctions with a few grapefruit flavors. I'm a huge fan of flowery flavors like lavender and rose, and they've got those as well! They have small high tables with stools by the bar (seats 4) and lounge chairs. It's not a huge place and I can definitely see them getting packed on the weekend. I went on a Thursday night and it was pretty chill. Great spot for drinks or a date ;)!

Yelp
1 Tippling Place has top notch service and a top notch ambiance. The setting is very intimate, with lounging chairs in the front and high tops in the back. If you come during the week you will likely have your choice of seating without much issue. However, if you come during the weekend, don't be surprised if there's no room. That said, every time I've come here I've been seated because the staff will do everything in their power to accommodate you. I have never received anything less than excellent service at Tippling. As for the actual drinks, I've honestly only *loved* one drink I've ordered from here, and that's the Penicillin. Everything else I've ordered has just been okay, with only the Mexican Strawberry coming close to the Penicillin. That said, the Penicillin is SO GOOD, and definitely good enough to make me a frequent visitor. As an aside, the bar will also make mocktails if you're not feeling alcohol, and the mocktails are very reasonably priced (a virgin Moscow mule will run you $4.50) and quite good. A few extra notes: 1) there is a happy hour, though I personally don't think it's anything special...just a few dollars off select drinks 2) if you can avoid it, do NOT order food here. They are called snacks for a reason---if your intention is to satiate your hunger, you will be very disappointed. A friend and I once ordered the baked parmesan and artichoke casserole, and it was literally a small dish (smaller than the cap of a peanut butter jar) and 5 crackers. Eat dinner beforehand or afterwards and come to Tippling just for the drinks.
google avatar

Belinda J.

Yelp
The best thing about this place is that there is no happy hour. Chris and Tony are the best bartenders that I could ever ever ever need it. The hospitality skills are off the chain. This is more so of a lounge than it is a place to eat communicate with other people complete strangers especially if you sit at the bar. I made a lot of connections in here. So come on down take a picture with the pirate in the back she's pretty and have a good time.

Yelp
I love this cutie patootie little cocktail place! Such a quaint, cozy little vibe. And the drinks are great! I had the Blackmail: rum, lime, honey, blackberry, & champagne, while my friend had the Mexican Strawberry: tequila, lime, cucumber, mint, strawberry. The only offered two hor d'oeurves while we were there and they were a bitttt lame, so I hope to see them grow that menu a bit!
google avatar

Clarissa L.

Yelp
Stopped by for happy hour on Thursday night. At 6pm we got a seat for 4 without any difficulty. The atmosphere was great, dark lighting, art on the wall and large comfy chairs and couches. The drinks were well crafted and pretty strong. My one complaint about this place is that the service is slow, so be prepared to stay for a while!

Yelp
For some reason, I am incapable of retaining the name of this place in my hippocampus. I had to look it up about 12 times prior to arrival to ensure I was heading in the right direction. When I did arrive, I walked right by bc it looks like it's either closed or the kind of place you enter but don't leave. I did enter, and as you can tell by the fact that I'm writing this review, also was able to leave. This place is actually the fucking shit. The decor is really cool and interesting. I had a zebra head in my peripheral vision during the evening. which was an unusual experience. There's a painting on the wall that I would LOVE to have in my apartment and I actually think is more appropriate in my apartment but last I checked stealing is illegal and I don't think I could've fit it in my clutch and also my Mom would've been mad at me. Menu has a bunch of cocktails interesting in a comparable fashion as the decor. I was really struggling with multiple choices that were rather intriguing. I ultimately went with this one that was extremely minty. As someone who loves mint, I really enjoyed it but I can see how it might overwhelm most people. The appearance was also very instagrammable however lighting was prohibitive. I actually said multiple times how much I loved this place and then felt the redundancy required an apology. Bottom line is that you need to come to this place. It's perfect for a date or to bring a few platonic friends, or a few platonic friends and a few dates, or whatever combo fits your situation.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, delicious appetizers, good vibe Unfortunately there was only one server , and at 7 pm we did have quite a wait , for our food and drinks . We were told there was only two choices left on the appetizer menu . I'm giving the four stars based on just the food and drinks.

Yelp
Big fan of 1 Tippling Place! I'm a fancy cocktail guy. There are a plenty of options in the city if you know where to look. They all have some attributes in common: drinks are $10-$15 each, heavy on the liquor, high on the flavor. The atmosphere also has standards, for example no standing and the requirement that you dress like you belong. Therefore, it should be no surprise that Tipping Place has all of these. So what exactly has me giving Tippling a "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" rating? Unlike some of the other cocktail bars in the city, you can actually come in and look around instead of waiting in line outside. May not seem like much, but it is nice in the winter and means you can be late to meeting up with friends without feeling like you're holding them back from grabbing a drink. Another little thing, I like their seats. Yes, some of the old timy furniture could use an update, but they are damn comfortable. The drinks are fancy and I like them regardless of how they make me look (with the occasional 'girly' glass in front of me). I like how Tippling has a regular menu along with Special/Seasonal drinks. It is nice to find your old favorite once in a while. Beyond that, service is reasonable and location is convenient. Check them out!

Yelp
I love it here! The laid back vibe is everything! The entrance is very understated; very fitting for the speakeasy feel. The drink selection was perfect for my birthday outing, and the bartenders were able to make whatever my party requested. The different glasses that they serve added to the honey, intimate feel. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
The ambience in this lounge bar, feels like a relaxing old hotel lobby with comfortable seating. It's a great place to bring a date if you want to have a conversation and a few cocktails, I would also recommend the Swedish meatballs which go really well with some of the sweeter cocktails. Also if your date does not drink alcohol, they make excellent mock tails.

Yelp
This place is nice- understandably compared a lot to the ranstead room, considering their close proximity and similar menu options. Have only been to both for drinks, and I think their cocktails are comparable. 1 Tippling Place has more variety. It's bigger here with three sections of a long building that can be divided by curtains. Terrific mismatched furniture adds to the swanky ambiance. The Mexican strawberry, a tequila drink and the apricot cocktail were delicious and reasonably priced. I think I prefer the ranstead room because it feels more intimate and you can get stuff from El Rey (major plus). Although, rumor has it- the kitchen stays open very late here, and they have great food.

Yelp
This place has potential as the atmosphere is fun and the drinks look good. Sadly, we waited 40+ minutes for our drinks. We waited so long that the egg white had separated in the drink which made it goopy and the others were heavily watered down because the ice had melted. We were told water refills would come and they did not. No acknowledgement of the delay or apologies. This was really a disappointment.

Yelp
I love this place! 5+ stars! At first, we had tried to go to Ranstead Room, but the waiting time was over an hour long. They recommended we try 1 Tippling Place instead, and I'm so glad we did! The drinks are delicious and strong. The atmosphere is both chill and casual yet upscale and fun. We sat at a small bar-height table, and it was perfectly cozy for a nice date night. At one point, they forgot to place our order (it can get busy!), and they brought us free fish house punches -- which were so good. The servers and service were incredible. I brought a friend later and sat at the bar. The bartenders were equally as funny and personable. I definitely and highly recommend!

Yelp
1 Tippling Place is a friendly space. Since it's a speakeasy, it's a bit hidden along Chestnut Street. I had no trouble finding it for my initial visit, but walked right on by the second time. Once you walk in, there's a splattering of couches and seats for groups, high tops (good for smaller groups) and the bar itself. The wall art is nothing if not eclectic and is accentuated by the signature zebra-head. It's a pretty great place -- by far, the most welcoming of all the speakeasy establishments I've visited in Philly. For drinks, I can only speak to the quality of the gin section, as that's my liquor of choice for cocktails when I'm out. I had the Lavender 75 and the Eastside and both were great. I would order either of them again in the future.

Yelp
Great cocktails, atmosphere, and service on the night I went there. The only downside was the lack of a food menu. Tiny meatballs were the only food offering. When I drink cocktails--especially good ones like I had here--I need food to soak up the liquor. Even a simple bread basket would help. Hopefully they'll work on upping the food offerings. Otherwise, I'll never make it to a 3rd or 4th cocktail when I go there!

Yelp
Not too hard to find despite it being "unmarked" - there's a sign with the address pretty close to the door. The atmosphere here was very relaxing and nicely decorated (they still had a Christmas tree and lights up in January) and the cocktails were great. The Blackmail (Rum, Lime, Honey, Blackberry, and Champagne) was delicious for anyone looking for a sweet cocktail. Their drinks were mostly in the $12-15 range.

Yelp
We had an hour to kill before our dinner reservations. Don't know of a better way to spend Happy Hour then at Cocktail bar. Very Comfortable seating, very friendly servers. The Gershwin's went down as smooth as the Tequila Honey Suckle's. We did not order any food, however the snack menu was interesting I was tempted to order the H'ae Pennies They could use a better sign to mark the location. We walked past it before we noticed the small sign on the door. The place is small there was a short wait for a table.

Yelp
I was very, very happy with this cocktail bar. I brought my partner here for a few cocktails before her birthday dinner around the corner and we both really liked this bar: the drinks were excellent, it was appropriately priced for the quality of the cocktails, the atmosphere was great, and the cheese plate we got was yummy (if a bit small). Expect to pay for high-quality cocktails. If $10-$15 is too much for you, don't come. But if you like well-made, delicious cocktails, in a place with great ambiance, I'd definitely recommend it. I will be back for sure.

Yelp
"It's a good thing the seats are comfy; obtaining a drink can take upwards of 20 minutes. But they're made with care and unusual flourishes, like house-infused chai bourbon or homemade ginger beer. If you're not in a rush, you can look at the leisurely pace as one of 1 Tippling's charming quirks" A classic cocktail bar serving well mixed and carefully crafted spirits. Generous serving sizes and fairly priced cocktails make this a better and more affordable bet as compared to Franklin Mortgage and the Ranstead room. Very friendly and reliable service.
