1 Tippling place is an unassuming but swanky bar and lounge tucked away, almost hidden from view on Chestnut street. It's easy to walk by and miss it entirely, so it is quite the surprise to walk in and see what an amazing interior there is! The strength of this establishment is obviously the atmosphere and seating, with comfortable couch lounges, high tops tucked away with curtains, and a beautiful main bar. The decor is immaculate, with a fascinating yet bizarre mix of fancy parlor style lounges with an occasional nautical twist, and with cool paintings that DEFINITELY seem haunted.
As for the food and drinks, this is primarily just a cocktail bar with a couple of snack options - there are no entrees and as far as I can tell, not a true kitchen or anything. The drink menu is extensive and mostly consists of very classic drinks and very subtle riffs off those classics. I got the "Fancy Free", which is their improved whiskey cocktail and it was well made and straightforward, though unsurprising. My wife's drink was a deliciously sweet and refreshing "Mexican Strawberry" with tequila, strawberry, cucumber, mint, and lime. No doubt the drinks are solid and there is a big menu, but you could question whether they justify the prices of being $17-$20 range. There is a happy hour though that seems to have great deals.
We also ordered the cheese plate which was... pretty unimpressive. The cheeses clearly came right out refrigerator and were much too cold, with the brie especially being the texture of wax and not very pleasant. The cheddar and Manchego were low quality, but the crackers, olives, and jam were nice enough. I wouldn't really recommend the cheese plate I'm afraid.
Finally, I'll mention the service was a bit odd. The host taking care of us came and checked on us probably every 3 or 4 minutes for quite some time right after we got our drinks, but by the time we finished our drink we had to wait at least 20 minutes to be checked on again to ask for our check. Nothing egregious or anything, but could have been better.
