After eating dinner at a different establishment, we decided to utilize our drink passports and find a nearby bar on the list. Although it was raining and cold, Morris American Bar was of walking distance so we went with that. When we arrived, there was a curtain that separated the entrance from the bar area. Once past the curtain we entered what felt like the era of prohibition. It was a speakeasy. The music was classic, the bartenders had on suspenders or 1920 day dresses. There were atomizer perfume bottles behind the bar with some sort of substance in it to add to some of the drinks. Our bartender explained how the cocktail menu changes monthly or did he say weekly, hmmm, whatever the case the menu changes.
The first cocktail I started off with was the Stolen Property: Jamaican rum, lemon, Kahlua, maraschino, strawberry. I was skeptic at first because I didn't know how the Kahlua would work this but it turned out delish. Next drink was the Bertolt: apple brandy, amaro ramazzcotti, raspberry, orange blossom water. The Bertolt was a bit strong but still good, it was like a Manhattan. Next drink was the East New York Flip: bourbon, cream, honey, port, egg, nutmeg. The ENYF was my favorite drink. It was like festive eggnog. Finally, the last drink was the Hot Spiced Cider: aged rum, apple cider, nutmeg, cinnamon. This was a nice warm treat. I enjoyed all the drinks. Had it not been for the DC Drink passport program, I would have never known about this bar.
