"1886 may be far off the beaten Lyft path, but it’s been luring cocktail enthusiasts to Pasadena with creative and well-crafted cocktails since 2010. Enjoy a cocktail or a whiskey-straight fireside on the patio or in the quaint and cozy bar, which was once part of the historic Raymond Hotel." - Caroline Pardilla

"Located inside a bungalow house in Pasadena, Bar 1886 is where you go to drink Manhattans and Sidecars on a secluded patio - or inside next to the stone fireplace - and pretend like you’re a person who owns a mansion in Pasadena. This dimly-lit, romantic bar has a rotating cocktail menu, but if you aren’t seeing anything that looks good tonight, they have over 600 off-menu cocktails that the bartenders can whip up on command. If you get hungry, there’s a very good bar menu with things like al pastor prawns and mushroom gnocchi." - brant cox

"The Raymond features three outdoor patios. The largest West patio, is primarily for dining but will accommodate walk-ins. The 1886 bar, which has been around for more than a decade, has built a reputation of offering well-crafted cocktails, not only on its seasonal menu but with an impressive 600 cocktails available off-menu. A longtime favorite since the bar opened in 2010 is the Smoking Jacket, a smoky sipper made with pot still Irish whiskey, tobacco bitters, maplewood smoke, and orange-vanilla ash." - Eater Staff

We came here on Sunday brunch sitting on the outdoor patio. The food was delicious, service was good and the atmosphere was nice. I tried happy hour before, it was a great place to hangout with friends.

This is one of those places, where EVERYTHING was great including the service! Only thing that we would have liked was a bit more ac! We reserved an indoor table however they prop open a side door and it became warm inside. We didn't order cocktails bc we were too warm to drink. But the food was FANTASTIC!

Haven't been here for a couple of years, as the last time we didn't enjoy the company of rats. They didn't even offer to buy in. This last time we went to a different area and the brunch was great. Truly like the croissant style cinnamon rolls and breve. We also had both types of benedicts and they were great.

One of the best nights of my life. The most romantic interior. A house-like building with a real fireplace decorated with oil lanterns and stone accents. We got the bread + butter platter to start. Then we ordered the ‘cauliflower steak’ and the truffle bolognese. WOW! The food here was just top tier. The drinks were incredible. The service was so excellent and the entire evening could not have been more perfect. Tip - Go for dinner/drinks & sit inside!

There are very few happy hour places in South Pasadena that you could call a trendy upscale bar. Well this is one. Even if technically it is in Pasadena it is right over the border of South Pasadena & Pasadena. This place is an amazing historic old hotel and two out door areas for drinks & food. Amazing selections across the board. Just be there early if you want to sit outside. On those cold nights they do have an indoor bar too.

Valet is the go to for parking $8. Called in for same day reservation at the bar. When I arrived apparently table was not ready had to ask again and was offered high chair table shared seating or outside , we took the outside. Service not as expected account of the reserved table. Decent selection of house drinks ordered a Japanese highball appetizer bread and maitake. Main course was the sea bass, and brocollini. Maitake was bomb by the way sea bass was good to go as well. Finished the night with an Irish coffee and was pleasantly surprised. Check em out I did.

Who's ready for a delicious #brunch ??? Head over to the raymond 1886 off of Fair Oaks in Pasadena . I had their style of a breakfast tostada with some potatoes and my wife had the Italian baked eggs. We even shared the homemade cinnamon roll. This was really good and surprisingly filling. Here's a tip so you don't wait !!! Sit at the BAR, they have a full menu there. We really enjoy the ambiance and the food here. Get here early cause parking can be difficult here.

Yelp
The Raymond 1886 is just wonderful. My husband and I have eaten here 3 times now; once for a date, once with our parents, and I have also hosted a dinner event with them as well. The inside and outside both have a great ambiance - there are 3 patios and each has it's own energy, they all feel really separate from each other and very intimate. The whole team is so lovely, and they have been very attentive every time we came by - the special events manager Claudia in particular deserves a shout out. She is awesome. The food is excellent, of course. I have enjoyed every dish we've eaten there, and the guests at my event were equally impressed. I am seeing some other reviews here that are a bit petty and simply not an accurate reflection of the quality of this place. This is a great dinner spot and a gem for your events as well. We will be back often!

Yelp
Food was just ok but cold, and we were surprised that it took them only 5-10 min max to bring the orders, (they already had it ready to serve) they sat us outside and it was freezing cold. We asked for heating and it took a while for them to bring one and it was not enough. Drink was just all sweet syrup! The place was cozy and cute and it was expensive, the service was ok but one time only was enough!

Yelp
I've been here for many gatherings growing up, including birthdays. The owners Darius and Guyman have come out to say "hi" on occasion. The food is tasty here and rotates based on seasonality, and the structure is well-preserved for an old building. However, the service is a bit slow especially on weekends.

Yelp
If you are looking for a more upscale dinner or brunch, do yourself a favor a check out the Raymond! This historical building has so much charm inside and out. Between original finishes and multiple lovely patios outside, this old home makes a great spot for a special occasion dinner. My family dined out here for my birthday over the weekend and we were over the moon with the quality of food and service. Drinks: Stomazzi 4/5: This drink was packed a punch of flavor. It had an addition of basil and grapefruit. I think my only issue here was a super strong basil flavor and aroma that kind of overpowered the rest of the flavors. But overall the drink was very nice. Japanese Highball 5/5: My dad got this drink and loved it. He's a big whiskey guy and this drink definitely had big whiskey flavor. Appetizers: Calamari 5/5: The calamari is perfectly crispy and comes with lemon, jalapeno aioli, and pepperoncinis. Has a bit of heat between to the peppers and aioli but so good. Bread and rotating butter 5/5: Perfectly fresh hot bread. They rotate their butter flavors and we got to try the beet and honey and sriracha with goat cheese. Burrata and tomatoes 4/5: Delicious! However, a smaller portion than we expected. Dynamite tots 3/5: Good crispy tots, but there was not much of the sauce to put the dynamite in dynamite tots. Entrees: Steak frites 5/5: Perfectly cooked steak and crispy garlic fries. Half Chicken 4/5: Great flavor and veggies were cooked well. Filet 5/5: Perfectly cooked steak, delicious broccolini and potatoes, and great sauce. Short rib 4/5: Fell apart beautifully just how short rib should be! Caesar salad with shrimp 5/5: Loved that it came with grilled artichokes! Dessert: Because it was my birthday they brought me an off menu butter cake. OMG this thing was too good. It had the texture of a corn bread with crispy edges, whip cream and caramel sauce. 6/5!! Would recommend to anyone!

Yelp
We've heard so many good things about The Raymond and was able to get a reservation for their brunch time. Parking can be a doozy given the restaurant is located on a busy street (Fair Oaks), so it's mainly street parking. They do also have valet parking for $8. Once inside, the restaurant is laid out like a old house with a old timey feel. We made the mistake and made the reservation for indoor, but if you get a chance check out their back patio! Definitely a gorgeous site on a nice sunny day. As for their menu, it's a pretty typical brunch menu with omelettes, pancakes, breakfast burritos and such. We were feeling hungry so we ordered three dishes: 1. Crab cake Benedict's - we've had crab cake Benedict's at other locations and we felt the ones at the Raymon fell a bit short. The chipotle hollandaise was a bit thicker than it should have been and there was a bit of a scent to the crab. It wasn't bad, but wasn't our favorite dish. 2. Smoked Salmon Toast - Definitely the best dish we had! The addition of the pickled onions and radish paired really well with the smoked salmon. The cut of bread was thick and toasted to perfection with butter. If there is one item to try on their brunch menu, this is it. 3. Short Rib tacos - This dish came highly recommended by our waitress. Flavor wise it was good but the only thing we'd do differently is ask for them to put the pico de gallo on the side since it made the tacos soggy. We'll definitely come back to check out their patio and to try out other dishes from both their brunch and dinner menu.

Yelp
We picked this place based on number of reviews and food pics alone. So when my group arrived, we didn't expect to see a house/cottage as the actual restaurant. Inside was dimly lit and a bit stuffy, but full of people on a Tuesday night. Even with reservations, we waited another 30 minutes. *Note* Valet was $8, with no real other parking options. Bread and butter is not complementary Items ordered: Bread and butter Charcuterie board - 2 kinds of meats, 4 slices of cheese, Marconi almonds, fig jam, crackers, gherkins, grilled shishitos Calamari - comes in a deep fried edible rice paper bowl Steak frites - fries are crispy and thin The Artichoke - stuffed with purple rice Sea bass - Best thing there Ribeye - (doesn't include the cap, just the center cut) very small portion Bottle of wine - see pic (jammy, fruit forward, easy to drink, low acidity/tannins) Our server was charming and had a wonderful sense of humor. Thanks Clifton!

Yelp
Went there in Jan 2024 (am just getting around to posting). The drinks were FANTASTIC! The service was EXCELLENT! The food was DELISH! The ambiance was just enough old timey Pasadena to feel both cosy and fancy. My friends and I will go back again in January (new tradition!)

Yelp
The Raymond 1886 did an amazing job hosting my sister-in-law and her husband during their wedding here recently, appreciate the amazing venue and event!! Loved the intimate ceremony area at the side of the property. Worked very well for wedding of 40-50 people. Easily transitioned to the main outdoor patio dining area. Decor was well done. Only feedback regarding the patio space was that chair spacing was a little tight for comfort, especially at the head table for the newlyweds. Food was excellent! Drinks were creative and very well made! Parking is tight but valet did a pretty good job of getting cars in a timely fashion to keep traffic flowing. Would love to go back to the Raymond for a drink and dinner sometime soon. Thanks for making this a great event for the family!!

Yelp
What a special night for my best friend's birthday here! We had a private area in the back, but it still had the homey feel to it. I loved the ambiance here! I got the Pasta Bolognese, Bread & Butter, and the Taco Party drink. This combination was incredibly filling and full of flavor! I usually don't like tomato flavored things but the pasta was made so well that I didn't even mind at all. The bread was worth the order so don't hesitate to get it. I was hesitant on ordering the drink based off the name, but it tasted like a taco in a drink exactly like their description! Delicious! Our table also ordered the Fried Calamari which had the right amount of crunch and calamari with it. I'd definitely come back even for just a date night.

Yelp
After hearing such wonderful things about this place I knew it was inevitable that I would make plans to come here. And so I did!!! Thanks to my Sister B's, Nikki & Sam, we met here for a lovely Sunday Brunch. We sat outside on the covered patio near the fountain. It was pretty busy. Our server was Kelly and she took very good care of us. Our table ordered: The Caesar Salad 5/5 Avocado Toast 4/5 Homemade Blueberry Muffin 5/5 I definitely want to go back to try the dinner menu:) They have valet parking and plenty of street parking is available

Yelp
Built in 1886, The Raymond once was the caretaker's cottage for the Raymond Hotel, which is no longer in existence. In 1977 this charming craftsman was converted into a restaurant. I dined here many years ago and had drinks here a few weeks ago and heard it was under new ownership, so I wanted to check out the new menu. I met my darling gals here for brunch. We sat in the patio, which is lovely and relaxing. Our server was Kelly, and she was an absolute doll - friendly, helpful, & attentive. Our order consisted of: Avocado Toast, Caesar Salad, & a Blueberry Muffin. The Avocado Toast was impressive. It was a large, thick slice of country white bread topped with mashed avocado, pickled shallots, watermelon radish, chives, & Espelette spice served with country potatoes. My Caesar Salad was excellent. The little gem lettuce was tender and buttery soft. The garlic croutons were delicious, the creamy Caesar dressing was exceptionally good, and the artichoke hearts were a nice addition. The Blueberry Muffin was made in house and was served warm with melted butter. My friend really enjoyed it. If you are a cocktail aficionado, I recommend checking out their creative signature libations. (Mocktails are available too.) The mixologist are experts in their field. Shaking up creative craft cocktails that incorporate fresh squeezed juices, house made syrups, and hand cut ice. Since it was brunch, I had a glass of sparkling rosé (Victorine de Chastenay), my friend had the Moscow Mule. On my previous visit I had the Stomazzi and was impressed by how well balanced it was. If you prefer an Old Fashioned then I suggest Drama Club, which is a unique riff on this classic that won't disappoint. If you're looking for a place to enjoy a romantic dinner, a leisurely brunch, or happy hour with friends then The Raymond 1886 is the spot. I'll see you at the bar for Happy Hour! Cheers! *Happy Hour Tues - Fri 4 pm - 6 pm * Patio is pet friendly *Valet $8 or street parking

Yelp
Brunch at the Raymond 1886! My wonderful Yelp CM TD introduced me to this famous cottage on the side of Fair Oaks. It is located at the base of Raymond Hill. It was such a treat to re-visit again for a Birthday Brunch. I highly, highly recommend the Caesar Salad, not because it has my name but because it is darn delicious. The plates were family style. The potatoes were crispy. Ordered the following: 1. Short Rib Tacos braised short ribs, flour tortillas, avocado, pico de gallo, pickled onions, salsa verde, sunny side up eggs, served with crispy potatoes 2. Caesar Salad little gems, toasted garlic croutons, grilled artichokes, creamy caesar dressing, parmesan 3. Crabcake Benedict 2 crispy crab cakes, poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise, on arugula, served with crispy potatoes (GF) The Raymond is such a special place and I received a birthday butter cake to finish the brunch. We also met a partner from the LA Food Group, Darius!

Yelp
Stopped by for happy hour on a weekday, which is available on 4 a 6 pm from Tuesday to Friday. Ordered the fried chicken sliders, hamachi crudo, and little gem salad. The hamachi crudo was light and refreshing. The fried chicken sliders had a slice of pepperoni which added a salty component with each bite. My favorite was the little gem salad. The homemade buttermilk ranch paired well with the baby lettuce and micro greens and pieces of tomato and radish. Service was friendly and personable. The interior reminded me of a den, kind of like a mature and rugged man cave. There's street parking or valet option available.

Yelp
My daughter's baby shower was held at The Raymond 1886 in the fireplace patio area, and it was a flawless experience! Claudia, the event coordinator, was involved from beginning to end. She and her team made sure that every one of the 28 guest's needs were met with friendly efficiency. The pre-selected menu choices were delicious as well as the cocktails! Would definitely choose The Raymond 1886 again for a special event or just a nice meal.

Chloe L.

Yelp
The vibe, service, and food were all absolutely incredible! We got the scallops and the truffle mushroom bucatini, both of which were so tasty. I also highly recommend the "pump the breaks" drink!!! It tastes just like pumpkin pie. The tiramisu was also incredible. Thank you to Carlos for making our anniversary dinner special!!

Maricela V.

Yelp
I have driven past this restaurant many times and never stopped. This Saturday I finally got to experience The Raymond! I ordered the Alien Pool Party Cocktail and could not stop laughing when it was served. The drink was the perfect combination of sweet, spice and had the right amount of liquor. Started off with the Burrata and Heirloom tomatoes and Caesar Salad. Both dishes were amazing. I ordered the half chicken limone and my mother got the Chilean Sea Bass. Dishes were so tasty. My mother mentioned that the bok choy served with fish needed more flavor lol. Of course my mother is hard to please. We ordered the puréed potatoes and broccolini. Potatoes were the broccolini was ok. The staff was very attentive and our water glasses always stood full and the dishes were cleared and not left sitting. The ambiance was a bit rustic and cozy and I was all for it. The music that was playing and the lightening inside the restaurant made me feel relaxed and we enjoyed our evening.

Tre R.

Yelp
I quickly found this spot while looking for a place to eat for my longtime friend & I. Loved the intimate environment, definitely felt cozy as compared to a sterile, modern-style decor. This is definitely a place to dress-up for. The macaroni held so much cheese, and the chicken- o.m.g. the chicken! Oh so juicy & that sauce i'll definitely need the recipe for! The drinks were wonderful too as well as the friendly service. I will absolutely come back!

Brandon G.

Yelp
Everything was magical, from the drinks to the fries to the ambiance Local fav that I was introduced to, will definitely be back!

Yelp
Started out shaky, a little off the chain, crashing and burning to be honest, last night was going down as the worst of the worst everything that could go wrong was going wrong lol no lie. Until THE RAYMOND MANAGER, not the female manager(fail), the Italian ALISANDRO (sorry if I'm mis spelling your name),DUDE SAW WHAT WAS GOING ON, stepped up and held everything together. And we finally got a drinks, bread, salads, soups steaks yams mash potatoes cheese cake, apple pie. Fuckin amazing. Thank u sir, and happy thanks giving. That was bomb. Off the chain 100. Thanks Pops. Dopest of the dope.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on Valentine's Day. The restaurant is off the beaten track and looks like a hidden big house that's been converted into a restaurant. Like many other restaurants, a four course pre fixe menu was offered on Valentine's Day. We had a table on the patio but I hear that have a few patios? The food was delicious and good service too. Check out the Valentine's pre fixe menu as we pretty much shared everything so we can try it all!

Kerri A.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was good, gorgeous night out on the patio. Inside feels a little stuffy to me so it just depends on your preference. I left satisfied.

Holly T.

Yelp
Parking is valet only , $8. Reservations are best . Cute place to eat indoors or out, very friendly and attentive servers. Lots of history to learn about this place. Lovely menu, something for everyone. The Gem salad coupled with a sliced loaf of bread/ butter went well with my pasta bolognese. For dessert the pot de creme was small but perfect for sharing with my friend. Highly recommend and plan to return !!!

Meg K.

Yelp
We had brunch there last Saturday because we wanted to experience the live jazz music. It was rather a chilly morning but it was worth sitting outside where the band was. There were plenty electric heaters to keep us cozy. Music is awesome!!!! Services is excellent! Food is ok.

Eva T.

Yelp
Brought my daughter for her 30th Birthday, I ordered an appetizer that came cold and under cooked, sent it back, they brought it back when we were almost done with the meal. They forgot her drink twice, they brought it when we asked for the check. It was a special Birthday for her and the experience was very disappointing, no effort was made to make it a nice Birthday dinner.

Rebekah A.

Yelp
The Raymond 1886 has an unfortunate but now bustling history. Definitely check out the "About Us" section on the website. It's a short read. Worth the few minutes to learn about the history of this restaurant, once a hotel. After getting over the cuteness overload of the restaurant, the girls and I ordered drinks. When our waiter arrived back, he spilled one drink (sad face). It was the mimosa, champagne, and OJ everywhere. He quickly apologized, cleaned up the spilled, and went and got a mimosa replacement. Kudos for resolving the accident quickly. It happens. We all survived, and so did our waiter. We sat outside on the patio. Rustic vibes. Beautiful and intimate. For a Sunday brunch, this was perfect. Here's what we ordered, but I will only provide my review on taste for my entree. 1. Shrimp Panzanella Salad $21 Grilled jumbo shrimp, arugula, red onion, tomato, olives, capers, croutons, house dressing, fresh mozzarella cheese - you can remove any of those above ingredients 2. Eggs Your Way $17 Two eggs, applewood smoked bacon, crispy potatoes -eggs served to your preference 3. Omelet Your Way $20 Choice of three: goat cheese, bacon, onion, avocado, tomato, spinach, bell pepper, ham, mushroom, cheddar cheese 4. Short Rib Tacos $18 Braised short ribs, flour tortillas, avocado, pico de gallo, pickled onions, salsa verde, sunny side up eggs - This was my entree and it was quite delicious. The meat was seasoned well, and the pickled onions was a perfect pairing with the braised short rib. Finger licking good. I'm not an egg lover, so I opted for no eggs and substituted eggs for potatoes. We each had a drink, but mine was unspirited. I wasn't impressed. I ordered the "Vaughn", something was missing for me...I would have preferred something sweeter. My girls all stated that their entrees were delicious as well. By the empty plates at the table, I would agree they enjoyed their meals. Pros 1. Ambiance is on-point. 2. Service was great even with the spillage of the mimosa. 3. The food was quite delicious. Cons 1. Brunch nenu is limiting, in my opinion. Full disclaimer, I'm not a brunch gal. They have a lunch/dinner menu with many options. 2. Valet parking, why is this a con? Well, it's limited space. Although you can park on the street, good luck. Overall, The Raymond 1886 is worth a try. I would definitely go back. Try something new and take in the good vibes.

Yelp
I went to the Raymond last night -- after a year --- this is an odd place that envisions itself a fine dining establishment but has always been a burgher based pub in my view. The cost is WAY out of line ($66 for3 drinks at the bar) and the food is average (2 diners at $177) -- so for $240 one would think it should be exceptional -- it isnt. Its a burgher-based pub and should realize that.

Claire L.

Yelp
Drink and desserts: good Services: great Food: meh CostPrice: too pricey for its quality We arrived Friday before 5pm and didn't have to wait for a table. We were here specifically for DineLA menu $65/pp for 3 course-meal. The atmosphere and services were good. It reminded me of steakhouse in some kind of historic house (turns out the place is Raymond Hotel owner's caretaker's home). Food was extremely underwhelming and under-seasoned. Corn soup wasn't creamy and it was like from an instant pack and worse Kale salad was alright but hubby said he felt it wasn't fresh. Maybe he was looking for veggies' crunchiness and there was none. Steak - they didn't ask for temperature, so we asked. The server said it is cooked medium rare. For an old-school American restaurant to cook steak like this, it's a hard pass for us. Steak was worse for similar steak in Urban Plates and $45/pop on their regular menu. Very chewy and rubbery. Sauce had the weird mint? Fries were good Sea bass - it was under-seasoned and could have been more flaky outside. Rice wasn't complementing the dish well. Desserts were the highlights - we liked it.

Yelp
I had seen so many pictures online, showing the food and drink at this restaurant, so I was very exciting to go. Definitely make reservations. They have valet parking. When you enter the restaurant it's like you're entering somebody's living room. It's very cozy and quaint but the vibe is cool and fun. They have indoor and out door seating. The patio is great but it was a little cold so I ate inside. They have a fireplace inside a nice but small bar and they do take large parties. They have a great custom specialty drink menu. The food is delicious. Yes, be ready for the $$$$$, but it will be worth it. The staff is warm and friendly and you can see everybody that works there hustles. Our waitress, Alex was wonderful and gave great recommendations. If you don't want to valet, you have to park on Fair Oaks, so I suggest an Uber. I plan to go back for brunch!

At last! I've been wanting to try this spot for over a year and finally I did. I went for brunch with my auntie and was only disappointed that I hadn't tried it sooner. We enjoyed the ambiance - they have indoor and outdoor options & it feels like a very spacious spot. We sat outside/ on the patio and the weather was perfect. The lattes are yummy! I ordered the carnitas tacos with eggs on top and it was DELICIOUS. Their side of potato's were perfectly cooked- a little crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. Perfect salted and seasoned. I ate every piece! I am absolutely coming back. Great service!

Yelp
I booked a holiday work dinner for our Director team and their guests at The Raymond. We had 18 guests. Claudia, the Events Manager, was so responsive and provided me with the details and options right away. We sat in the Cactus Garden and it couldn't have been cozier. Though we were outside, the space was kept warm with heaters and our guests enjoyed how private and comfortable it was. The food was amazing and all our guests were excited about the classic cocktails they got to choose from. We had such a great time and everything went so smoothly from being able to Valet all our vehicles at the front to leaving at the end of the night. The service was incredible and our dinner was paced out perfectly. I would absolutely book another private dinner here and look forward to visiting again for dinner on my own.

Yelp
Oh man, let's start with the positive first. The atmosphere here is great. The outdoor seating area transports you to a serene, nice, cozy setting. Loved sitting outside with the dim lights at night. The food though. So disappointing! There were 5 of us and we ordered a bunch of items, including desserts. Here's the shocker: nothing was good. I had nothing i would order again. That's saying something bc it's not hard to have ONE hit out a a bunch of dishes. The meal started with the tiniest portion of $20 calamari. It was a bit more oily than everyone liked and overall uninspired. The beef short rib was a tad too tough, not the super tender meat I was expecting. That was the one I looked forward to the most so that was a letdown. Everything else was just so normal, not bad, but not good. For the prices here, it's unlikely you'll walk out of here feeling like you got what you paid for. In this economy, I can't see them doing well serving mediocre food. Won't be back. If atmosphere is everything for you, give it a shot though. It's a nice place, just wish the food was as good as the setting. $8 for valet. There is some street parking right before you enter the valet area on the main street.

Yelp
We were seated in the bar and had a 5:30 reservation under my friend's name, My husband and I got there around 4:30 to have a drink and asked to be seated outside. This is where it all began. The hostess pointed vaguely in the direction of the south patio and said it was closed. You have 3 patios, just take us to the one where we can be seated. The waitress asked us 3 times if we were eating. Each time we said we had a reservation for later. This is certainly not her fault, but our first round of drinks, two Old-Fashioneds, took 10 minutes to arrive. When our friends arrived, we asked if we should close out or transfer the bill, she said she'd be serving us inside, so she could just transfer it. Great, we thought. My husband and I ordered mains while our friends ordered a variety of starters and sides. The waitperson asked if they wanted it first and kept sort of looking at the whole table as if these starters and sides were for everyone. At one point, I gestured toward my friends and said it was for them. There was a bunch of unnecessary back-and-forth before my friend, had to firmly say, "Bring all the food at once." Of course, four people want their meals at the same time. Sure enough, their items came a good 10-15 minutes before ours. After our waitress confirmed the order, we said we would also like bread. That bread didn't come for another 25 minutes or so after both meals had been served. She said something bizarre along the lines of, You were talking while I was still writing. We were aghast. I ordered my second drink after everyone else had ordered theirs. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I ordered it after I ordered my meal. I ordered the Rondeau. It took ages to come and there was a big kerfuffle about the fact that it was a split. It wasn't indicated as such on the menu, but I just said OK. Then another person comes, a man, carrying two splits and two glasses. He repeats that it's a split. I said OK, if that's what the Rondeau is. Then I showed him on the menu what I ordered before he opened the split. He said, But that's a rosé. Do rosés need to come with warnings? It was so frustrating that ordering a simple drink, as listed on the menu was such a problem. There is nothing else on your menu that looks or sounds anything like Rondeau. I finally got my drink. At the end of the evening, the waitperson said in a sort of harried way, Thank you and sorry for the chaos. When we paid, we asked for a receipt and, of course, never got one. I've enjoyed this restaurant for years. I have so many happy memories of The Raymond. I can't ever imagine eating a meal there again. And there are lots of places for Happy Hour around. Please review your training policies. This was an expensive night that left 4 people feeling extremely frustrated.

Yelp
$144.42 (food: eggs your way, short rib tacos, shrimp panzanella salad, omelet your way (w/ mushrooms) - drinks: mimosa, irish coffee, kir royale, vaughn) The Raymond 1886 monologue: 4 ladies out for brunch that enjoyed their experience on the charming patio. This area was spacious and privatized by nature. Very attractive and welcoming. It felt like you were at someone's home and they were throwing an intimate party. In between breaks of laughter (like I said, 4 ladies at brunch, so you know there were plenty of hearty expressions of enjoyment), we managed to order our meals (see above). We were all equally satisfied with our dishes. I got the salad. I have never had this kind of salad (see picture). Yeah i questioned the location of the shrimp too. But when my fork began the process of retrieving the nutrients placed in that bowl, viola, there they were. That bowl was empty quicker than you can snap your fingers! Oh, and before I forget. I ordered the Kir Royale (see pic). What makes this worth of mentioning, is, it was not on the menu. The bartender knew what it was, had the goodies to make it, and again, viola, another satisfied customer! So, you probably can deduce that I'll be back. I really need to get on the patio with the fireplace. Talk about a photo shoot...oh my! Oh p.s. - This Craftsman Cottage restaurant is such a delight. It's soooo freaking cute and cozy. Turn left, turn right, go down a step or two. Yeah you have options for the mood you want to set for your dining experience.

Yelp
Well the positive is the vibe is nice and cute... The food is pretty bland and tasteless. I ordered the scallops and they were somewhat fresh but the purée was very tasteless and bland. The side Mac and Cheese came out extremely hot and stayed extremely hot and hard to enjoy.. Also tasteless..... my friend ordered the same dish and wasn't impressed... The drinks are not that great and come with a huge craft ice that they leave little alcohol to drink.... The staff is friendly. But the waiter I had didn't have any recommendations for drinks or food items... Would not be back again!!!

Yelp
A quaint restaurant in an old home, well organized to create a relaxing vibe no matter if you're dining indoor our outside in the patio. For minute you almost feel as though you're walking into someone home for dinner. Started out with the burrato & heirlooms tomatoes, love the lightly sweet & tangy balsamic glaze and the cheese on top. The sea bass on top of the lentils, just melts in your mouth. The Day boat scallops comes with 3 larges pieces of scallop accompanied with some sauteed kale, that is just as delicious, could almost eat twice the portion size. LOL We didn't get a chance to try the drinks here but hope to return for that next time. Outdoor has heaters & blankets to accommodate the cold evenings. Street parking and valet parking available. Service is excellent. Saw another customer brought in their dog, appears the outdoor seating areas can accommodate to having pets.

Yelp
I never thought I would have to do this. The Raymond was a complete disappointment. The server was inept beyond repair. She did not have a deep understanding of the menu. The lifeblood of any restaurant is the servers ability to offer recommendations and highlight the restaurant's offerings. She was Abysmal. When asked what to wine to pair with chicken she had to ask the bar and could not pronounce the wine. We settled on a bottle of red and she asked if wanted to let breathe and we said we'd like a decanter and she poured the wine into a carafe and didn't even fill our glasses. Everything felt like corners were cut. I know it's not a steak house, but why offer a ribeye eye and no fat cap for $52 when surrounding restaurants offer much more for that price. Houston's offers a full ribeye, the Arbour offers a filet mignon for a similar price. They have "prawns" on the menu, but it's really just a shrimp cocktail. Even the charcuterie board left a lot to be desired. It was served with the smallest sections of hard as a rock baguette I almost broke a tooth trying to create a morsel of a bite. The atmosphere is charming, but like any first date, after the first word is spoken, you already know. The food was okay. The steak was under seasoned and the chicken was served in such a weird cut that I had to filter through cartilage. The server said the steak was angus but I highly doubt I would never come here again nor recommend this to place to anyone. It was sad a night out.

Yelp
We came here early on a Sunday night. Valet is available at the front of the restaurant $8. The layout of the resto is cozy but a bit tight and sometimes felt like I needed to get some air. I think brunch on the patio would be quite adorable though. Service is kind and welcoming albiet scattered and a bit slow. The food was a mixed experience. Appetizers: We ordered bread and butter as well as the tempura maitake to start. The batter was not fully cooked and I had a mouthful of uncooked, half-fried, gooey, batter that I washed down very quickly- yuck! Entree: Day Boat Scallops and Portobello Mushroom. Scallops were really delicious and executed very well. The plating was overly fanciful but every bit was delicious lol. The giant mushrooms were delicious but towards the end of it, the saltiness was really building up so I wish it wasn't that strong! Dessert: Coconut semifreddo that was delicious at the time but now thinking back on it, I can't remember a thing. The drinks menu were great and put together with a lot of thought and care! I honestly thought the two drinks we got were the stars of the show lol!

Yelp
My favorite spot for cocktails in Pasadena! The space is big, got both indoor and outdoor space and a couple fireplace. Service is good. v alet parking available for $8

Yelp
The signature drinks are really the highlight and focus of the Raymond, especially the signature cocktails.

Yelp
A lot of yes! I arrived at this place thinking it was a house and I was at the wrong location. Went in, got sat down and the experience began! The food at this place was really well made and very tasty. They have a very balance menu for food and drinks and I really enjoyed it. The service was also amazing, we were a group of 10 of us so not an easy task at all. The ambiance was relaxed but also formal as the inside of this place is a real house set up with dim lighting and some nice nooks where groups can catch up and enjoy this place. I will definitely be back! They take reservations which is great.

Yelp
Location 10/10. Very cozy lots of trees and private tables. Appetizers delicious. We got bread and butter and fried calamari. The dressing for the calamari was really good The seabass was perfectly cooked. My husband got the ribeye with broccolini 10/10. Cocktails have a mocktail option which is always great! the service was great. Our waitress was very clear with the specials and explained every cocktail that we were interested in!

Yelp
My husband and I went here for Valentines Day. They had a pre fixed menu. While the price was on the higher side per person it was so worth every penny. The service is amazing the food is fantastic and the ambiance is romantic, very traditional pasadena and just fun. You can sit indoors or outdoors. If you sit outdoors they have outdoor heaters so you don't have to worry about getting cold and umbrellas if it is too hot. This place also features an amazing brunch on the weekend so it is worth checking out. Again the food is always really good. This place has been a local favorite in Pasadena for a very long time. The parking is a little strange so prepare to use their valet service and pay for it but other than that the place is amazing and great for date night.

Yelp
There's a history to this golden spot! It's cozy and nice. The food here is good portions are decent but the cocktails are delicious! I came here couple times because the parking is easy and it's a classic spot to enjoy a cocktail or two with lite appetizers to dinner. They're friendly but have to wait a long time to get their attention but overall the service is decent. If you haven't tried this spot I definitely recommend it.

Yelp
Great little spot, but there was an issue with a burger we ordered which we asked for "well done" but it came out at "Medium" temperature and when I addressed the issue with our server, she seemed bothered. The other items we got were okay except for the waffles & pancakes which we enjoyed. Enjoyed the ambiance & the unique location. However, for a bill of nearly $400, it would have been appreciated if our server was more helpful, attentive and ultimately, willing to take care of us under the circumstance. One of our guests ate the burger, but it did not sit well & this could have been easily remedied. May or may not come back, but glad to at least have given it a chance.

Yelp
Classy, intimate restaurant built inside a craftsman home. Had brunch with friends. The cozy atmosphere was perfect for our group to chat and share details without fearing we'd be overheard. The service was good. Admittedly, I had to ask for cream to go with my coffee three times and wait 20 minutes for it, but it was fine I already had my food and Old Fashioned so I was fine. I had the crabcake with pouched egg on bed of arugula. The crabcake was flavorful and cooked crispy on the outside like I asked. It was very satisfying. Our group also shared the cinnamon roll and pancakes. Have to say, the cinnamon roll wasn't really worth the calories. It was all crispy, no gooey middle. At least not for ours. It was more like a croissant cooked like a cinnamon roll with great icing. I love croissants. But that's not what I was expecting. The pancakes were EXCELLENT ! We all were impressed with them. All in all we enjoyed this restaurant and recommend it if you don't need outdoor sunny patio seating. They don't have much of that.

Yelp
Today at their happy hour I was sitting waiting for 20 minutes with no service, despite being one of the only people here. There were three servers standing around and talking amongst themselves while I sat there in front of them without any food or drink. I've eaten here before and the food is good but not great. Cute restaurant but not worth the price or even the gas to go over. I thought they were very rude to ignore me like that.

Yelp
Always great food. The service was superb. Cocktail programs always surprises and comes up with something new and delicious on a regular basis. I have been eating here since the 80's, it is always a great place to meet friends and a great restaurant to introduce people to. A place for first dates, anniversaries, birthdays, and just any occasion. Worth a drive from most of LA. This time we ate on the back, back patio, which was the perfect place for a brunch on a really hot LA day.

Yelp
While looking for stuff to do together, my date noticed that there was DineLA coming up. While reviewing the many many restaurants, we ended up at The Raymond 1886 cause he thoughtfully found a place with panna cotta on the menu, since panna cotta is one of my favorite desserts. Swoon! :) He made a reservation for the restaurant at 6:30pm on a Sunday evening. I can see how the location was hard to find for other yelpers, but this smarty did their research so we got here fine. There is street parking on Fair Oaks or valet parking ($8). The interior was the restaurant was very romantic dim lit ambiance, but also a homey feel since it looked like it was once someone's home. Someone old rustic vibes at the same time since I feel like their tables and booths can use an upgrade, but still cute. Their Dine LA dinner menu for 4/28/23 - 5/12/23 is a three-course menu for $55/person. 1st Course - The appetizer had 2 options so we got one of each to try and share. They featured the Octopus Tostadita and an Orange Burrata Salad. I personally liked the octopus tostadita a little more. The octopus was well executed. My date was really obsessed with the balance of the balsamic glaze on the salad, but I feel like the salad was pretty basic and needs more burrata. 2nd Course - For our entrees, we both went with the Braised Short Ribs, probably cause we weren't interested in either of the other options. The braised short ribs came with a guajillo chili couscous, broccolini and pickled onions. I was surprised they didn't give us a better knife to enjoy the short rib. The basic butter knife that came with the meal was not a good cutlery for this meal. The couscous was a bit clumpy. No issues with the broccolini or pickled onions. The braised short rib tasted decent but it was really tough. Not like others I had where I barely touch it and it can fall apart. If they gave me a better knife it might have been easier to eat, but in general a braised short rib should fall apart more easily. 3rd Course - Naturally I go for the Basil Lemon Panna Cotta if my date went out of his way to find me a place with panna cotta. He got the Chocolate Tart to have a different option. Unfortunately the panna cotta had no taste of basil or lemon. The consistency was gritty, whereas panna cotta should be silky and smooth. There was a decorative piece that my date well described as "stale". The chocolate tart was wayyyyyyy too sweet. Even with the cream and orange gelee to give it some creamy and acidic contrast, it was just so rich and overwhelming. And one weird thing, they gave us huge spoons for these desserts. You typically see a smaller spoon or utensils for desserts. DineLA, or restaurant weeks in general, always makes me wonder if they were bad because they mass produced and failed or if they're always this subpar. There were some really good things going on at The Raymond 1886, but I hope their normal menu has a better execution. I'll come back if my date wants to come back, but I don't need to.
