What a great spot in the charming Potrero Hill neighborhood. They have seating at the bar or window bar, an outdoor parklet with heating, and also some very cozy tables for two inside. they have an extensive wine list and menu, covering all the classic French dishes we all know, as well as some exciting flavors to try. I got the sole dish, my mom and sister got a shephards pie type dish. We got done appetizers as well and French fries! ( gotta have that). We were greeted and seated quickly and our waiter was very attentive and helpful when we had questions. This will make for a great date night spot , as it's so cozy and romantic. my only suggestion would be to have French or Jazz music playing. They had 70s rock , which I don't mind, but it wasn't the right vibe for dinner.

Overall the price is quite reasonable for the dishes. I have been here multiple times and have tried different dishes each time. I think in general, im not as impressed on the meat dishes, like pork chop or the tartare, they don't have as much flavors as some other dishes. The French onion soup is a must try, I think that is so far the best French onion soup I have had in the Bay Area

I had a chance to try Chez Maman a while back - and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. This is an upscale restaurant known for French food - and the food here is awesome. The ambiance here is perfect for a dinner our with friends or with your partner and the service is great. For my food, I tried the beef burger which comes on a ciabatta role (a little different from normal places. Overall the burger was good and flavorful and enjoyed munching on the fries it came with. Had a good experience here and would go back!

Love this french restaurant near Portrero Hill! This location is the best the view is so pretty and the outdoor seating is spacious and elegant. The restaurant is more of an intimate ambiance, cozy, warm and comfortable. This is one of the best staff that I've experienced in SF in a while. The hosts and servers are always so nice and accommodating. I've been here for dinner and always get mussels with french fries! The fish plates are always amazing, as well as the desserts. I came here for lunch recently after bouldering in Dogpatch and we got paninis and french fries.

Delicious food! Flavor was there. The appetizers definitely stand out with great flavor like the escargot and the sausages. The entrees are really good, they really know how to cook the meat. I got the duck confit. Service was good and they were accommodating! Ambiance is cute, perfect for a romantic date!

Came here with a friend to try out this restaurant as we had never been before! We got the two fettuccines on the menu, sangria, mimosa, and escargot! I had never had escargot before so it was fun to try it! The service was good and we were seated the quickly. The server was attentive as well! The ambiance is also really nice - well decorated and location wise, as you leave the restaurant you can see a great view of the FiDi buildings lit up at night! Food summary: Fettuccine carbonara 9/10 Very creamy and very filling! I loved it a lot and taste wise, it was amazing! Definitely a good amount of meat bits to noodles! Mimosa 9/10 Very good! Not too strong, which I enjoy, and also not too sweet! Escargot 9/10 Definitely an interesting experience as my first time trying it! Tasted very good sauce-wise, but was a bit salty for my taste. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot!

The hostess is incredibly cheery and kind. She was attentive to all the guests waiting outside and even joined in on birthday singing at a table inside despite the rush of people. The male waiters, however, were not so attentive. One had a lazy attitude and another spilled an elderly guest's drink all over them, then dropped a plate before catching it. Maybe he was having an off day, poor guy. I would not recommend the Carbonara pasta simply because they put a raw egg on top of it and that's not how it is served in Italy nor in any Italian restaurants I've been to. I also do not recommend the burger since the bread is so dry. The truffle fries are good because they're crispy but you can barely taste any truffle, if at all. I also tried the French onion soup and maybe it's just not for me, but I didn't enjoy it and my partner couldn't finish it either. The only good dish I can recommend here is my partner's Duck Confit entree. That was tasty with great depth of flavor and comes with wonderfully cheesy scalloped potatoes and vegetables. I would only come back for the Duck Confit, nothing else seemed to stand out in the menu. Maybe the crepes?

Warmly greeted and outstanding service from start to finish. Attentive, yet not rushed in the slightest -- despite how busy it was on a Sunday evening. Beverages brought out promptly and well tended to all evening. Starters were brought out together upon request. Entrees followed immediately afterwards. All of the dishes were hot on delivery. Nothing sat out. All dishes were timed perfectly... and we had a party of eight. The French Onion Soup is a classic. A wonderful appetizer, to be sure. The photo says it all. A creamy, cheesy delight. The Les Moules Mariniere was outstanding. A steamy pot of nicely sized mussels and no grittiness at all. The broth is amazing and is perfect for dipping French fries or bread. The Roasted Duck Confit was nice and tender. The sauce seemed familiar, perhaps too much like ordinary hoisin sauce. Nonetheless, it was delicious. An au gratin potato square comes on the side. The Mushroom Crepe was good, but I now know I prefer the other style of crepe. It was heavy for a crepe, IMO. I want to say the crepe was buckwheat. I could be wrong. I cannot find a description anywhere. Seating both inside and out. Street parking is available; however, a short, hilly walk is usually the norm. Nonetheless, quaint Chez Maman East is an absolute must when in the Potrero Hill neighborhood! Actually, it's worth making the drive, as well. Bon appetit!

Amazing service! This is one of my favorite go to spots in the city. It gets pretty busy especially during dinner so be sure to take note of that when coming to dine. It is a rather small place but there is outside seating with heaters. The food comes out in a timely manner and the servers always check in with the food and filling up on drinks. My favorite starter is the escargot with bread. I think everything on the menu is tasty and worth a try!

This place is a hopping neighborhood restaurant that serves great French food! We came around 6pm on a Thursday and it was already busy. They greeted us warmly and we got counter seating looking out the window, which was lovely. This is a smallish space -- a full counter against the window, bar seating, a few tables indoors... I think their outdoor and parklet seating doubles their capacity! We got: * French onion soup -- soooo goood! We'd come back just to eat a lunch of French onion soup * escargot -- nice buttery and garlic, but overall, snails isn't really my thing; lovely presentation * masala mussels: I liked this a lot more than the white wine version; if you like bold flavors and coconut curry, get this and add black pepper to it! * burger -- this is indeed a satisfying burger We ended the meal with chocolate mousse and the suggested port pairing which was just such a wonderful way to end the meal. Prompt service, wonderful food. Cute neighborhood restaurant!

Came here to celebrate the day before Bastille day and had a great time! Food: I ordered the Smoked Salmon Panini, which came with crème fraiche, capers, & caramelized onions, and a side salad. The salad was slightly salty, but it felt refreshing on a warm day. The panini bread itself was well-balanced with a crispy exterior and soft center, and the salmon/onion filling was delicious. I also sampled the Merguez (spicy lamb sausage) and melted brie panini, and I would absolutely return to order that. The Brie is delightfully gooey and generously portioned. The lamb sausage is packed with flavor, and not overly spicy. For drink, I ordered the Kir Royal Aperitif, which consists of Champagne & Crème de Cassis. A light and subtle blackcurrant flavor, I felt this complemented the flavor of the panini & salad. Service: Kind and prompt. Ambiance: We sat at the outside seating, which offers a stunning view of downtown. It was beautiful, but be aware that if it is a hot day, there is no breeze in the outdoor tent seating. It's a cute area to walk around, Street parking only.

It was my first time at Chez Maman yesterday. We came around 1pm, and we had the choice of either indoor or outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside. I ordered the chicken panini, and my bf ordered the smoked salmon crepe. We also ordered a side of french fries. I liked the panini. The bread was crispy, and the pistou and aioli were really good. The flavors blended well together. The panini came with salad and there was a good amount of it. The fries were decent. They came with aioli, which I thought was very garlicky. I switched between dipping my fries in the aioli and ketchup but found myself preferring the ketchup more. Staff was attentive and quick.

Top notch French restaurant in SF. Came here with a group and got to try several dishes on the menu. Our favorites were the les moulette (mussels) with mariniér broth and the mushroom crepe. Recommend getting the baguette to dip in the broth. And for any mousse fans the chocolate mousse is terrific. The filling in the mushroom crepe is very rich in flavor. On Friday nights I recommend coming early as it gets busy. Service is generally good, but unfortunately the servers do try to rush you a bit from the time you sit down to the time you pay. Don't expect a long casual European style dining experience outside of the food itself.

Chez Maman East has such a cozy vibe--it's one of the few places in the city where you can get amazing food paired with a decent glass of wine (because let's be real, some places serve wine that tastes like it came from the bargain aisle at Safeway). We had a creamy mushroom Soup Du Jour, mussels (Le Moules), and fried chicken that was tender and delicious. Yes, we had four glasses of wine between us, but we were responsible--took an Uber there and a Waymo home. Sitting at the counter is always our go-to. You get the full menu and personal attention from the staff, which makes the experience even better. The place was busy, even on a Sunday night, but the seating system is smooth: just write your name and party size on the whiteboard outside, and they'll call you when it's your turn.

Another delicious dinner at Chez Maman East! We sat inside on the bar stools facing the exterior windows where we shared different dishes family style. We started with the Acme bread which we used to dip into the garlic, white wine, lemon and parsley-laden broth for the tender marinere mussels. The French fries with aioli were also excellent. We also enjoyed the Caesar salad with anchovies and only wish it had a little extra dressing. Our group shared entrées of a complete crêpe which included ham, plenty of Swiss cheese and topped with a nicely cooked sunny side up egg and lightly dressed arugula, as well as a delicious roasted duck confit topped with a rich gravy and accompanied by crispy green beans and creamy potato au gratin. We also added some roasted brussels sprouts and apples that complemented the rest of the meal too. We wish that we had had room for dessert, but will save that for our next visit!

Worth the try: Chez Maman beef burger Tip: yes, you should add the cheese for $3! Beef Burger: 100% beef patty with tomato, caramelized onions, aioli, served on a ciabatta roll with a side of french fries or salad. We got our burger medium rare, and it came out perfectly. The addition of the Brie was nice, and they had a few other unique cheeses to choose from aside from the typical cheddar and Swiss. I also couldn't stop eating the fries with the aioli sauce! PARKING: Street parking available nearby. May have to walk a bit depending on how busy it is. SERVICE: Servers were attentive and kind, despite it being a full house! ATMOSPHERE: Small, cute restaurant in Potrero Hill with both indoor and outdoor seating. Great date spot and fun neighborhood to walk around. My partner and I were looking for a quick bite nearby for dinner and landed on Chez Maman. They have thousands of reviews and we see why! We got there at 6:30pm on a Sunday and it was packed by the time we left around 7:45pm. Great burger, will have to come back to try some of their other dishes.

For the Holidays, my coworkers and I went to Chez Maman East for lunch. It had been nearly 12 years since I had been, so I was interested in going back. It was known for their fancy burgers, which were highly rated for years - but everyone has a burger now, not every place has French food. Our table started with some fresh acme bread with chilled butter. I ordered a French onion soup, which was savory, warm and delicious. As appetizers we had the mussels, pomme frites and the beef tartare - all which were very good. For my entree, I ordered the pan seared petrale sole meuniere, which was not that great. It was pretty fried and a little boring, I should have gone with the roasted duck or the veal, which my friends ordered and let me try. The food and atmosphere here are nice, however my coworkers reported that the burger was just okay and the bread of the bun outweighed the meat and toppings. So mostly hits and a couple misses, but overall a place that you should definitely try.

Cozy French bistro in Potrero Hill. We tried the mussels, endive salad, smoked salmon crepe, grilled salmon and burger along with french fries that came with garlic aioli-all were super fresh and delicious! The dessert is also wonderful if you can make space for it after the meal-we shared the pain perdu and the apple tartine and basically ended up licking the plates clean. Service is excellent with attentive and efficient service. Come early to avoid lines.

It's never too late to celebrate Valentine's Day, even if it's one week later. We came here on an early evening without a reservation and got a seat right away. The staff here was very friendly so we felt welcome right away. I always prefer this location over the one at Hayes because it's less crowded and at a more charming area with a local vibe. I've been to both Chez Mamans and I have to say this one has an amazing view. As always, the food is superb: Beef tartare - very flavorful and it is one of the few times ive had this Potatoes gratin - something about this is craveworthy Les moules poulette - i usually go with les moules marinières but figured id try this one. Personally not a fan, i'll go back to the marinières one! As always, fries are a must have with this Veal - extremely tender but the vegetables aren't as well roasted This place is definitely a must go to for french food!

Service is very good. But I want to emphasize they have the most delicious mussels in the Bay Area. The soup goes very well with the bread.

We happened to be in the area and decided to try this lovely bistro instead of our usual visit to Plow across the street. Seemingly, regulars dine here as the wait staff recognized the customers next to us. The menu has a variety of items I wanted to try but for lunch, we ordered the Angus burger with Swiss cheese which came with good fries and a wonderful garlic aioli. I tried the buckwheat mushroom crepe. I loved the sauce with mushrooms but not so much the buckwheat crepe which was a bit heavy compared to regular flour crepes. The entree menu looked good too and I'd definitely return for another meal when in the area. Our waitress was very pleasant and friendly. There's a parklet outside for dining out.

Chez maman hits the spot every time! Service is great, the waiter and server always checks in while we are eating to make sure everything is good. Also the view of the San Francisco skyline is beautiful. We ordered the French onion soup which was a 10/10. They are super generous with the cheese on top. We also ordered the beef tartare and I have to say this is the best I've ever had! The flavor is beyond amazing, tangy and sweet with every bite. We also ordered the fish burger which in my opinion is the best burger option. The salmon was cooked perfectly and it comes with so many fries on the side! We got the poulette mussels as well and those were delicious! The buttery sauce and garlic made it so good.

My boyfriend and I walked in at around 6:30 pm and were seated immediately. There were covered and uncovered outdoor seating and indoor as well. There are heaters for outside seating! The restaurant was cute and looked like a french street cafe. Our waiters were nice and friendly, and service was smooth. Parking is street. We ordered a french onion soup ($13), savoyarde crepes ($14), and roasted duck confit ($33). Soup was great and classic, everything you'd want in a french onion. The crepes were a little disappointing and pretty heavy. I didn't really enjoy the buckwheat batter since it was much denser; I would have preferred white batter. The crepe was filled with potatoes, prosciutto, and cheese then topped with arugula. The potatoes were a little under for me, but the rest were nice. The duck confit blew us away. The duck was perfectly roasted and so tender. The wine sauce was incredible that I would drink it lol, so much flavor and seasoned just right. The potatoes gratin was delicious with its flaky, cheesy layers and crispy top. Greens beans were fine, nice and simple. Overall, we really enjoyed Chef Maman and will definitely be back. There were so many dishes we wanted to try, like their burger and veal. Everyone needs to try their duck!!

Delicious food and a nice view of the city even if it's off the beaten path. The service was great as they were accommodating for my group when we were eating outdoors while it was getting cold. They turned on the outdoor heaters and both that as well as our hot food kept us nice and warm. The escargot was a good start and the duck confit melts in your mouth.

Wow - it's been a couple years post-pandemic that we have been back to Chez Maman, and we still feel the same nostalgia of French charm. The love we feel with our old friends Thierry and Olivier still remains, and they are simply golden! The wife and I shared a nice bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with French onion soup, salad and then excellent entrees. We had Chocolate lava cake with some of the finest gelato we have ever experienced. The food is fantastic, but what stands out - and why we always come back - is the down-to-earth charm of the staff. Great location, great food, and the best...well not really staff - they feel more like family!

This was my first time having french cuisine and probably my favorite meal I've ever had in San Francisco! The french onion soup was AMAZING it was so rich and well balanced I finished every single drop. The mussels were the freshest juiciest ones I've ever had & the portion size was so worth the price. I would love to try the other flavors they offer! The fries were soooo delicious and the aoili it came with was chef's kiss! The duck was just alright i would pass on it next time and get more mussels. I will be back this is the perfect date night spot.

I used to regularly frequent Chez Maman West pre-Covid and it was always consistent and delicious. These days I find myself at Chez Maman East more often due to only going into the office one day a week and enjoying the walk here after work. I usually come in for an early weekday dinner, the wait isn't usually long, and both indoor and outdoor seating are comfortable. The staff is always friendly and attentive, the food is consistent, the desserts are decadent and delicious, and the drinks are just right. My go-to's are the chicken and mustard crepe, roasted Brussels sprouts, champagne, and something sweet off of their menu. Pros: Friendly staff, delicious and consistent entrees, and decadent desserts.

Restaurants like this are the finds, the experiences, the "hidden" gems I love! Places I wouldn't know of otherwise but now will remember with a smile. We were in town for a Giants game and wanted dinner before heading home. Put in the filters to accommodate the lateness, our casual dress and desired $$ amount. Yelp led us to Chez Maman East (Potrero Hill) and I count myself lucky. Place was pretty packed so again, I felt lucky since we didn't have reservations. It was a close-knit, intimate restaurant and I imagine having bad seat neighbors could make a difference but ours were so cool. First date, a little goofy, and entertaining. (Different tables but they were pretty close to each other.) Service was just perfect. Excellent! Memorable. Recommendations given, food ordered, drinks brought to the table, and made to feel like we had been coming here for years. Food - I ordered the tomato, pistou, brie, and prosciutto panini with fries/aioli. Sandwich was perfectly crisped while still soft inside. Pistou (like a French version of pesto) was flavorful, and the aioli for fries was delish! Hubby got the mussels with garlic, shallots, white wine, lemon juice, parsley and he ate every bite and sopped every bit of the juice with some french bread. We ended with a shared, DIVINE crème brulée. Dinner done, we leave...and then we notice the view! This place checked all the boxes for us and I would absolutely come back to this restaurant!

I'm so over long brunch lines. Went to Chez Maman for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the prices for quality and portion. Upon arriving at 11:00am on Sunday morning, we were seated immediately outside. Our table seats were on the sloped sidewalk, but it wasn't a big deal and we could have easily moved seats. Starters: - Le Moules Thai (lemon grass, coconut milk) so creamy, rich and goes great with bread. I'd skip the $9 fries for the $2 bread basket - Escargot (pesto and butter) so tender, and the extra juices went really well with the bread Honestly we were both pretty full already. Main: - Tomato Panini - Veal We were past capacity and we rarely order dessert on the menu, especially for a lunch, but everything had been so delicious up to this point that we had to order. We were so glad we did. Dessert - Chestnut Crepe 4/5 great but the next dessert hit it out of the park for us - Affogatto with Vanilla bean ice cream 5/5 phenomenally creamy and not too sweet Can't wait to come back because my husband and I are eying the other mussel options, duck confit, and apple tarte. Chez Maman - highly recommend

Stopped by Chez Maman East for a late dinner and ordered the baguette and butter, escargot, half roasted organic chicken and brussels sprouts Pros: - Really affordable prices for the portions and quality - The chicken was tender and juicy - Friendly and attentive service - Open till 10pm (rare for Potrero Hill) Cons: - Warm bread or room temperature butter would have been nice - There is some plastic sheeting for the outside seating but no heaters to help with the cold/wind

We ordered French onion soup, Spicy lamb sausage panini, and Salad Nicoise w seared tuna. Both the soup was very cheesy and salad was fresh and tasty - both were superb, fresh, delish. The panini was not bad. Service - servers were nice, attentive, friendly. Ambiance - Quite busy during Sunday late lunch. Tables were very close and a bit too loud for intimate conversation but kinda reminds me of a French bistro.

Came here on a Sunday with a group of 4 around 5:30pm. No reservations. Waited an hour for a table. In the meantime we had some wine while waiting outside. They have outdoor seatings with heat lamps. It was a cold night. It was worth the wait because we got the only booth seating inside. We started with the truffle fries. They were crispy with good truffle flavor and the aioli was amazing. Next came the mussels. It was a big portion enough for the 4 of us. There's several flavors to choose from, we chose Thai. Make sure you also order the Acme bread to soak up the delicious broth. The butter that came with the bread was cold but you don't need it when you have this wonderful, tasty broth to dip in. For the main I had the veal. It was too dry. I loved the mushroom gravy tho and the veggies. But the veal was cooked too long. My friend had the pork chop. It was thick but also very dry. Pity. The sauce was good. I love things saucy. My other 2 friends had the roasted chicken and the sole which they said they really enjoyed. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food came out in a timely manner.

The burger is a 3* for me. I ordered mine with an egg and mushroom. It is cooked perfectly medium rare, but it wasn't as tasty as comparable gourmet burgers. Also I felt $3 for 4-5 (what seemed to be canned) mushrooms wasn't worth it. Next time, I'd pass on the burger and try other entrees. Service was exceptional, all the staff was very attentive. It's a small venue so you could end up waiting and you need the entire party to be present to be seated.

The mussels with the wine sauce was delicious. Such a strong flavor that was oh so good. Used the bread to soak up that sauce. The burger had everything on the side so you can add what you like. And was very meaty. Gotta come back and try other items on the menu.

My husband and I were looking for a quick bite for lunch nearby, walked in, and fortunately were seated right away at a corner window table. Service was attentive and kind, and nostalgic tunes added to the cozy ambiance (eg Have You Seen the Rain). We shared the angus beef burger and les moules mariniere. Our food came out in under 10 minutes and portion sizes were jaw droppingly generous. Our burger came out perfectly medium with a crispy ciabatta bun, a mountain of shoestring fries, and garlic aioli. The mussels mariniere were delicious, tangy, and light and paired perfectly with their fresh acme baguette. We even found a teeny tiny pearl in the mussels which was honestly just delightful. Will have to come back to try other dishes!

Went for brunch on a weekday at noon, plenty of seating available. This is a review of the chicken buckwheat crepe, which was tasty but super heavy. It was very creamy inside which was not expected, given the menu said chicken and mustard. I tried the fries that came with my partners burger and they were a bit dry. The garlic aioli was delicious though! I heard their French onion soup was good and saw a couple people order it so I'll try that next time.

Was looking for a nice weekend brunch spot and came across this lovely gem in SF! I haven't had too many experiences with French cuisine, but I was absolutely floored by all our dishes. We sat outside (mind you the weather was gorgeous that day) and service was very kind and patient with us as we took a bit of time coming to a decision (everything sounded so good ). So we ended up ordering les moules mariniere, the salmon and goat cheese oeufs en cocotte, and the eggs benedict, and the tatin crepes. The star of the show had to be the moules because I'm not even a big fan of mussels but the mussels were bathed in such a rich and well-seasoned broth - the white wine + lemon + garlic was so flavorful (we almost downed the whole pot of soup). The oeufs en cocotte were something we haven't tried before and let me tell you, the salmon + goat cheese + egg was so delectably creamy and savory. The eggs benedict - well, it was what every good eggs benedict should be, with a nice juicy salad. And last but not least, the CREPES. Oh my lord this was hands-down the next big thing after those mussels because not only is it gluten-free (godbless Chez Maman) but the combination of caramelized apples + buckwheat + chantilly cream made for a dessert that was not too heavy but still had this delightful spiced sweetness from the apples. The textures and flavors were just spot-on for everything, great people, so I'm very happy we were able to find Chez Maman. Overall the best brunch I've had in Norcal (now I just have to find their West location) À la prochaine

We came here on a slightly busy weekend night for dinner. The place was bustling and tables were filled outdoors and indoors. Luckily, they had an open spot for two at the bar so we obliged. The staff was friendly and the service was great. We were excited to try the food! The French onion soup was the first to come out, it smelled great and looked delicious but it was so salty it was like drinking saltwater from the ocean! We didn't finish it.(2/5 for being to salty but everything else was there) My veal came out and it was not as salty as the soup, and the freshness of the vegetables balanced out all the salt I had in the first 10 minutes.(4/5) The fettuccini came out and it was quite salty as well but no where like the soup. The mushroom and the pasta was cooked perfectly, but just a tad too salty again.(3/5) I'm not the type of person to send my food back but instead I think I'll ask for less sodium next time.

Always consistent regarding the food and upbeat service. Parking is never a problem even during peak dinner times and on the weekend. Much prefer this location as opposed to their Hayes Valley where parking can be a problem.

The service is great it's one of my favorite places. The food is always consistently good from the French onion soup, the endive salad, the mussels with fries, the salted caramel gelato I could go on. Definitely a must try and worth the wait.

One of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco and our go to place to take out of towners and to celebrate special occasions. Mouth watering food and a delightful staff providing top quality service.
