Warning, there is a chance you will be treated poorly by Ethan, who may tell you he is the owner of this brewery.
I've visited 18th Ward on 2 occasions to see a friend's band play. And on both those occasions was treated poorly at the bar by Ethan.. At first I thought this guy was just having a bad day and didn't think much of it. Apparently my friend and I pissed this guy off by asking about a specific beer, and asking if they carried Jameson (they do serve liquor).
Unfortunately, the situation didn't stop there. My friends and I (including a child), were hanging out across the street listening to the band play, and Ethan, the owner, came over screaming at us from the middle of the road, telling us to get out of the road, when we were actually on the sidewalk, with one of us just right off the sidewalk. At that point, he was literally the only person in the middle of the road.
There were other people on the other side of the road, there were kids zooming down the street on scooters, but this guy decided to come over aggressively screaming at us, cursing, throwing up his middle finger, mind you all in front of a 1.5 year old kid, and many other kids around.
He then started squaring off to one of the dads, and nearly picked a fight with him!
We kept asking him to walk away, telling him we were just here to listen to our friends band play, trying to enjoy our Sunday.
He then told us to never come back again and leave this second, and that he was calling the cops!
At that point I realized what was going on. He didn't say anything to anyone else but our group of non-white people. When he did speak to other people, he spoke calmly and kindly, but with us, it was a totally different attitude.
It was actually so unexpected and shocking that a few folks kindly came up to us after and asked if we were okay, and that they saw everything that happened and apologized that this could even happen. The guy bbqing for the festival, had to go inside and close my tab, as I was in tears and too scared to do so.
I visit all of the local breweries in Brooklyn and have always been treated well. I'm still in shock that this happened to us.
We will obviously be taking our business elsewhere.
