Had a wonderful dinner here and absolutely loved our server, Kim. She was prompt, friendly and gave us options for where to sit based on seating and noise level. The menu here is a bit small, but everything I had was amazing. The Green Thai Tea looked beautiful and tasted great. Will definitely come back when I’m in the city again.

We held our brunch style wedding reception here on a Sunday and it was absolutely perfect! The venue is so unique, beautiful and interesting that we didn't even have to think about decorating. The food was amazing and an overall crowd pleaser. Each floor has a totally different vibe that accommodated all the unique party needs of our multigenerational guests. The staff was so kind, courteous and went above and beyond to make our day special. I can't recommend them enough for a private event!

The food here is quite decent. We highly recommend Pho Ga (Chicken Pho), followed by Com Chien Tom (Shrimp Fried Rice) and Bun Tom Nuong Sa (Lemon Grass Shrimp over Vermecilles). We also tried other dishes, such as Dau Hu Chien (Fried Tofu) and Com Tam 1914 (Broken Rice), but they were not as authentic in our opinions. We also hoped to order Bun Cha but they ran out. Our server was OK. We wish they were more enthusiastic and observant. The location, atmosphere, and decorations were just right! We enjoy details such as the train model inside the building and the Vespa in the bar downstairs.

Amazing food, incredible service, and wonderful live performances!! The menu is pretty limited, but they REALLY know how to make each of the dishes that they do offer shine. One of my friends did live performances here every weekend during the summer, so I came here pretty regularly in June and July, and each visit left me very impressed by the freshness of their ingredients, the beauty of their presentation, and the quality of their cooking. Their food is incredibly affordable, especially since the portion sizes are quite large, and everything feels relatively light and healthy. I particularly love their spring rolls and fried tofu noodles. Beyond their food, I really appreciate how speedy their service is and how kind, welcoming, and warm every staff member is! They're always so perceptive of every guest's needs, even when incredibly busy. The general ambiance of the restaurant is also incredible; it's very hip, fun, and colorful, making it the perfect place for a chill hang-out on the weekend or after work. They also have a tiny tiki bar in the basement if you're looking for somewhere to go after dinner.

Everything was flawless. The food was topnotch. The atmosphere was incredible. The service was second to none. The prices were incredibly reasonable. The crispy mushroom pancakes aren't a lot of food for the money compared to other dishes which give you basically two meals but the taste is worth every penny.

Worth finding!! Food was phenomenal!! The waffle wrap egg rolls were outstanding!! Kimberly was a phenomenal waitress and provided exceptional service!! Would give six stars if it were an option!!

Dining here was a really pleasant experience. The decor is cute and the food was excellent. The fried pork buns were my favorite dish. Got the fried chicken and fried rice as the main dish and it was cooked so well with a nice crisp. The drinks were good as well and the presentation is a plus as well. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

We had the chicken pho, fresh spring rolls, and pork egg rolls. A lot of meat in the pho and pork egg rolls. Plus, the broth was really flavorful. Kim was a super waitress and was happy to spend time chatting with us about our time in DC. Thank you for the great meal.

I really wanted to love this place. My friend said it was overrated, but I really wanted to try Viet street food which I've had at other places. Definitely work the waffle rolls and the lemongrass tofu. I would NOT recommend the deep fried wings dish since they overfried the chicken wings, so the chicken wings were super dry. We ordered the shrimp entree with rice noodles which was alright. The service was great; they were attentive. It was a cold wintry night, and we were able to get seated immediately. The waitress promptly came over to give us the menu and give us time to order. After that, I felt like our water was empty often. There's a tiki bar downstairs which was bopping. The food felt very expensive for what it was.

OVERALL: Interesting decor, delicious food. FOOD: we got three drinks, waffle rolls, bun xao, and xoi chien. The food was delicious and flavorful!! The xoi chien with the crab was my favorite. Everything was enough for three people. The waffle rolls are a must-try. The drinks were ok! SERVICE: service was a little slow even though there weren't many people there. But once we were attended to things went well. VENUE: this restaurant has three floors. The bottom floor is a tiki car, the second is the restaurant (there is a huge bus as decor), and the third is a hookah bar. The overall concept is strange and not well advertised. But the restaurant is awesome!

A distinctive atmosphere greeted me at this Vietnamese outpost, with the mockup bus and a QR code menu standing out. Upon trying to order, however, I was surprised to learn that they couldn't do their bun (noodle bowls). This seemed like a bizarre thing to be out of to me (that would seem to be a core item), and given their small menu, I was left with limited vegetarian choices. I was happy to basically use this as an opportunity to get an appetizer and pregame for some food somewhere else. My green tea drink delivered a welcome contrast of the bitter and the sweet, and the fried tofu I ended up with was extra crispy with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce. The people working there were casual, which I'm generally in favor of but it did result in me being ignored for a while when I was ready to go. So for me, the food and drink I did get were good but the experience underwhelming. I could imagine them doing better.

Great experience! Location is off the beaten path of the 14th St strip. Definitely (!!!) make the detour to check them out. I dont like to give 5* reviews for a first visit but couldn't help myself. I really want to revisit! The location is only 5 short blocks off the 14th St restaurant strip but you could tell a difference. The Friday night crowd was out and jamming all the restaurants on 14th. However, this place was empty. When I left (after an amazing experience) the restaurant had two guests, and the bar downstairs was empty. I walked back to 14th, and there were lines still at all the restaurants. Give this place a try! It was an excellent experience!! It is worth the extra walk. Now for the food. I tried both the Waffle Wrap Shrimp and Pork Eggrolls and the Mini Savry Prawn Pancakes (also has a mushroom option). They were fantastic. The flavors exploded in my mouth. The eggrolls were packed full of crunch without fried greasiness. Great dipping sauce! The Pancakes were so tasty and flavorful. Loved them. For the main course, I tried the Stir-Fry Beef Tenderloin with Vermicelli and Veggies. I asked for extra veggies. It was so, so good. The beed was perfectly seasoned and tender. I really enjoyed having the extra veggies, I'm a fan of veggies. Crunchy and fresh. I'm getting hungry again just writing this review. Service was superb. Lots of good recommendations, helpful assistance, and a kind smile. The decor was cool. There was a train in the main dining area hiding the kitchen space. It even had a train track out front. The downstairs bar is tikki bar themed with a big Easter Island styled statue. The colors were festive. Unique. Definitely give them a try the next time you are thinking Vietnamese or just heading out for a bite!

Woah--flavor! Best shrimp fried rice I have EVER had. We ventured in here after bar hopping and decided to try a few dishes and then headed downstairs to their attached Tiny Tiki Bar. Upstairs has a full menu and the Tiny Tiki Bar has a full bar with limited food menu.

This cute little place is located right above a Tiki r. The inside is pretty small but we got seated pretty quickly. Started with the waffle egg rolls and wings. The egg rolls had a nice spicy sauce and the wings may be some of the better wings I had! Not super saucy BUT had a lot of flavor. A good sweet spicy salty mixture! I had the fried tofu plate which had a nice sauce! Love that the tofu was fried a few different ways! My friend had the fried rice with fried chicken which was great!

Came on a Saturday night for dinner with a friend and had the best time! We started at the tiny tiki bar downstairs and very quickly wanted food so we headed upstairs to put our names on the list. We were able to wait at the downstairs bar and our table was ready in ~10 minutes. Service was awesome! They came and found us at the bar to let us know our table was ready. We started with the waffle eggrolls since someone downstairs recommended them. They didn't disappoint! I had noodles and shrimp that came with a small salad. Delicious! My friend had the fried chicken and loved it. Will definitely be back to try the pho. They have a great menu! Service and drinks were great too. A bit of a hidden gem but a good sized crowd on a Saturday around 8:30pm. Should there be a wait, drinks here are AMAZING!! and there's the bar right downstairs!

Checked out 1914 on a whim before heading to a show at The Howard Theatre. I'm not gonna lie I wasn't expecting much considering it was 9 pm, staff was closing, and the restaurant was empty beside us. Ordered the sampler platter and split the shredded chicken fried rice. They blew us away with flavor especially the waffle egg roll and chicken fried rice. Drinks were tasty and the staff was really friendly. Will definitely be back to try out more dishes as well as the tiki bar/club upstairs!

Expectations : I NEEDED a hot delicious bowl of Pho w just enough kick to clear my congestion and soothe my cold. This was a perfect stop for that. I also got the BBQ chicken wraps and they were very flavorful. The service was attentive and friendly. The environment was extremely clean and inviting! An adorable tiny TK Bar downstairs, too! I would be back and recommend to my friends.

Underrated hidden spot for non-pho traditional viet, such as xoi. Their wings are strongly lime and nuoc mam - delicious.

We had such a great time at 1914! Beyond just the food, the experience was amazing, and we had an amazing server that offered great recommendations and was overall such a kind soul. We came for a quick dinner and drink combo with drinks coming from the Tiny Tiki Bar downstairs. The food here was mouthwateringly good- I will say those wings might be some of the best wings I have ever tried- the combo of sweet and a little spicy was exactly what I needed. The fried rice was equally as good, with incredible flavors and cooked to perfection. We loved our time here and would highly recommend!

Went here with some friends for dinner and was pleasantly surprised at how good the drinks and food was. I'm always a little skeptical of Vietnamese restaurants in DC (I usually go to Eden Center) but 1914 didn't disappoint! They put their own little spin on various traditional dishes and they were all really good. The service was great and the staff were very friendly. The decor is fun. They also own the Tiki bar on the lower level and a whiskey bar on the top level.

What a sweet little spot, great for pre concert fuel before a show at DC9 or 930 club. It was very quiet on an early Sunday night, we saw a few people getting takeout orders and a couple arrived to done as we were finishing up. Food came out fast and our server was attentive and calm. I tried the bun chat with taro and tofu. It was a vermicelli noodle bowl with fresh ingredients-bean sprouts and herbs, perfectly fried taro and tofu! It also included a mystery item, not mentioned on the menu... a green ish crispy rice ball. The outside texture was fun but a bit bland and mushy inside, so I ate it with a dipping sauce. I regret not asking what it was! We also shared the appetizer sampler which was perfect for the four of us, cutting the rolls in half. I loved the waffle spring rolls the best with the creamy spicy sauce. Definitely worth a snoop! We need to go back to their extensive drink menu-- it was a school night. :/

Small, but lovely spot. The front of the bar/kitchen looks like a train car, and the decor in general is colorful, clean, and fun. We were a big group, so we went on the early side, and we were seated immediately. The hostess/server was very helpful in explaining the menu and answering questions about dietary exclusions, spice levels, etc. The food was delicious -- all the adults and kids were so happy with our food. Cocktails were delicious too. Go! You'll enjoy it!

The restaurant we originally wanted to go to closed, so we had to make moves quick and 1914 looked lit, literally! The interior vibe is artistic, fun and colorful - there's also literally a train inside the restaurant We ordered two small plates and two entrees: 1. BBQ Pork Sticky Rice 2. Sweet taro baos 3. Bun Cha Ha Thanh - Hanoi's ignature Grilled Pork Noodles 4. Bn Tht Nng - Grilled Pork with Veggies I was a bit disappointed with the sticky rice - I thought it was a bit too salty and the rice was a bit too sticky, difficult to pull apart, especially in the unbalanced bowl it came in. The taro buns were exceptional. I loved the texture of the filling with the subtle flavor of taro shining through. Both entrees were excellent, but if I had to choose one, it would be their signature dish, Bun Cha Ha Thanh. The pork meatballs and the broth pairs so well with the rice noodles, I was jealous the dish wasn't mine Overall, a cute and fantastic place to check out Vietnamese food in D.C., I highly recommend it! 4.5/5

The food, service, and ambiance at 1914 By Kolben was simply fantastic. It was our first time dining there in person, but we've ordered takeout from them before. We decided to try the sampler and share the noodles with bbq pork. My girlfriend also ordered the mocha drink. Everything was fresh and delicious. Our favorite item was the crispy shrimp waffle rolls. The decor is eye catching and fun. Our waitress was very friendly and attended to us quickly.

Wonderful service, great atmosphere, but the FOOD... All I can say is wow. We started with the mushroom pancakes, which were perfectly mochi-like, but in a savory way and made with coconut. Superb. Next, we had the xoi with chicken. Having been to the original Xoi Yen in Hanoi several times, I can say that this was a step up! The sticky rice, chicken, and sauce married perfectly. Unfortunately, they were out of pork, so we couldn't get the bun cha. But we did get the shaking beef and I'm glad we did. The cut of meat was perfect, and the sauce that went with it was incredible. The tiki drinks that we ordered with our meal were excellent. The Singapore Sling was darn close to what I had in Singapore, and my wife loved the Banana Hammer. I am so glad to have found a place like this dedicated to North Vietnamese food, which is as rare as hen's teeth in the US. Can't wait to come back.

5 stars for the absolutely amazing decor! I love this restaurant from the moment I walked inside. Every detail reminded me of Hanoi, and the train idea is great. Great place to take fantastic Insta pics lol Nonetheless, the food was a little underwhelming. It was good, but nothing wowed me yet. On the bright side, the price is actually decent for DC. Of course it's more expensive than a Viet restaurant in, say Eden center. But you're paying for the premium location anyway.

After arriving in D.C. this past summer, this is one of the first places that I went to and it definitely didn't disappoint. I was craving Vietnamese food, and this place hit the spot. It definitely wasn't traditional, but I appreciated its take on my favorite vermicelli dish. The serving size was perfect as I didn't feel too full after eating and the lychee drink was so tasty. In addition, the ambiance was really nice as the decorations were well put together -- you'll definitely be in awe when you first walk in! Would definitely come back here!

I have been eyeing this place for a couple of weeks on delivery apps. I actually ordered here on Caviar the first time and never received my food due to the delivery person so was super bummed. I was excited to order from here again and I actually got my food. Ever since then, I've been hooked. Like literally hooked. I've literally ordered here 3-4 times in the past two weeks. The BBQ Pork Rice noodles with vegetables is a fave but so are the shrimp spring rolls and the fried shrimp cake. I didn't love the bbq pork rolls (pork is too heavy for this type of dish) and the waffle eggs rolls were good but a little too greasy for my taste. I ordered the BBQ Pork Rice Noodles with Vegetables for my mom and she enjoyed the dish. Overall, really tasty food with fresh ingredients. I'll be a lifelong customer.

This place is very intagrammable, but the food is actually amazing. I got the fried chicken and rice and while it was a simple meal, it was so fresh and well seasoned, I was blown away by the simplicity and the great flavors. Service was fast and while the restaurant is moderately small, we didn't have to make a reservation for a Saturday night. There's also a speakeasy above the restaurant and a tiki bar in the basement, so there's lots of variety nearby! Definitely check out 1914 by Kolben if you can.

Only gotten takeout here. Easy ordering online through their website and quick pickup. Their pho is AMAZING!!!! I was sick and this pho revived me. I appreciate that it's chicken pho - as someone who doesn't eat red meat, it can be hard to find a good chicken/veg based broth. This did not disappoint. I've also had their boba which was equally as good :)

This is the most underrated restaurant in all of DC in my opinion. Their broken rice with pork dish is incredible as is the sauce that comes with it. I always get extra. Walk a little further down the U Street Corridor to find this hidden gem. The prices are wonderful and the service is excellent. Absolutely come here, it's reallyyyy good.

I can see why this place is 5 stars and it will continue the trend with me. We came here for a cheap eatery and good place. We found this place through Yelp. We walked here and i won't lie, the area did not look the safest. When we walked in and upstairs, the place was very cute with a train car in the back and a little like gate thing to walk up to. We met our waitress Kimberly, who told me she was named by her brother because he loved the pink Power Ranger. Kimberly was very ebullient and full of energy and sass. We ended up ordering bao bun, egg rolls with waffle crisp, sticky rice pork, and the rice noodle sweet sauce as the entree. My wife also got the coffee with a egg cream top and I got a lemon drink. Everything was freaking delicious. If I come back to DC I'd come here again!! Thanks Kim for being awesome!!!

Delightful Vietnamese restaurant specializing in playful takes on street food. I ordered delivery but will surely go in person soon based on my experience.

I ordered delivery from here about two weeks ago and was very impressed. I used DoorDash to order. Now with delivery, I normally don't expect the food to be as good as if I ate there, to include presentation. But I was really impressed with the presentation and that the food was still pretty warm (I don't live near the restaurant at all). The food still looked great in the containers. I ordered the waffle egg rolls and bbq pork rice noodle plate. The waffle egg rolls were perfectly crispy and came with a delicious creamy sauce. The bbq pork was so flavorful! From first bite I was in love. The noodles were perfectly cooked and complimented the bbq pork well. Everything was delicious! Overall, I was really impressed with 1914. The delivery was packed with care and the food was great. l look forward to trying more dishes!

I have been to Vietnam at least half a dozen times throughout my life; I still have family there, so to say I am picky about my Viet food (and so is my family) is an understatement. 1914 did a Phenomenal job with their food. On a weekday for lunch, we ordered a smorgasbord of food: Their signature egg milk coffee tasted like coffee ice cream! So rich, decadent and bursting with flavor. Absolutely amazing! Each of their tea drinks were solid, with nice, strong (I like to taste my tea and not have it watered down) tea flavors and well-balanced citrus tones (like the lychee tea and lemon black tea). Cha Gio: I've had many Cha Gio's in my life, but this waffle wrap chao gio rendition was perfection. Crispy and crunchy outside with a perfect amount of pork meat and fried (still crispy) shrimp inside, all piping fresh and hot, paired with a nice sriracha aioli sauce. I loved my Hanoi Grilled Pork Noodles. I was most excited to try this dish because northern food is not as popularly served here as some might think. This dish, with the meat and pickled vegetables served in a hot broth-like bowl went great with the diced cucumbers, lettuce, noodles, and more pickled carrots. The noodles were warm-hot and not all clumped together, as I normally see when I get Viet food. Usually, Viet places try hard to skimp on meat and stack hard on the carbs, but not this place. Super generous meat in proportion to the carbs and veggies for each dish and well-marinated. I really was that person asking the employees why "1914": because their address is 1914 9th St NW and that is when trains started going from North Vietnam to South Vietnam. Decor was so cute (definitely reminded me of Vietnam), place was clean, price was reasonable, and service was friendly. I am DEFINITELY coming back. Thank you 1914! *No Banh Mi when we went, they hope to roll that and a seafood noodle soup in the coming months.

Incredibly friendly and attentive staff, beautifully designed first and second floors which truly establishes diverse experiences for those that wish to have either a lively and upbeat atmosphere or for those who wish to sit down and enjoy a peaceful, studious environment. Unfortunately, I can't quite recommend 1914 By Kolben. I was craving a Banh Mi and decided to get delivery from here but was disappointed by the experience. Honestly, it just didn't scream Banh Mi to me. All my sandwich had was bbq pork (which tasted almost like candied meat) and pickled daikon and radish (which was barely pickled). What I look for in a Banh Mi are herbs like cilantro or jalapeños, as well as some sort of sauce like Mayo or Vietnamese Butter--which would have definitely made the sandwich less dry. The size of the Banh Mi was also quite small, it felt more like a snack and the bread was definitely chewy. I would've liked a crispy/crunchy outside with a chewy meaty inside. I can't say I'd recommend this place for their Banh Mi.

Stopped in for takeout recently. The inside is really cool with the train built in - definitely a nice vibe in there. Takeout experience was easy - we ordered online, it was ready at the quoted time, and I simply walked in, waited a few minutes and walked out with a big bag. For the food, everything we had was great. Funky (in a good way) flavors and very true to the Vietnamese food I've had both in the US and in Hanoi. Lots of fish sauce. All of the apps were hits - both the garden and fried spring rolls were delicious, the fried beef bao were also really great and unique, and the wings had great flavor - only wish they were a little more crispy/fried. For mains, we had the bun cha and the grilled pork with vermicelli, both delicious. Serving sizes are on the small side, especially for the price, but that's because my base of comparison is to Eden center (I avoid most Vietnamese in DC). This is a great option if you don't have the time or a car to get out to the suburbs. The menu is small, their website has said they're still in soft opening mode for a while now and more dishes are on the way, so there's something to look forward to.

We dine here several times, I must say, 1914 was an extraordinary culinary experience. Broken rice dish at this restaurant is absolutely phenomenal, rich and flavorful. Shredded chicken and sticky rice is at another level, It's a must try! The staff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Also the Hookah and Tiki Bar is an absolute delight. The combination of a hookah lounge and tiki bar creates a pretty unique experience. The hookah selection is quite large diverse, the display on glass tank is just exquisite! Such a convenient and high quality place.

The atmosphere was fun, especially because the station theme is creatively apparent. The theme is based off a train station in Vietnam. I loved the options for small plates. We were able to try almost everything on their small plate menu for a very reasonable price. Everything we ate was delicious. Downstairs they have an attached bar, Tiny Tiki Bar. It is technically a different business but owned by the same people. It is also well themed out.

After a two hour Segway tour of Washington DC in the freezing cold... We were looking for some Vietnamese comfort food and 1914 By Kolben pulled through in every single way! The Pho Ga was nice and light, and the dipping sauce was everything and more! The drinks are also very refreshing and pair up well with the Vietnamese comfort food. We will visit again once we're in the D.C. area for some authentic and fresh Vietnamese food!

WOW Maybe we've been away from California for too long but 1914 hit the spot ! I loved all the dishes that I tried - even down the serving size - it was not too little or too much. This was great because I was able to try a few dishes without feeling stuffed to the core. I would recommended the bun cha, banh bao chien (so so noms) & xoi ga xe. The only downfall was they didn't have any of the sweet baos ! Overall so yummy and amazing - the decoration really makes you feel like you traveled back in time in Vietnam

Review during covid. Ordered to go over the phone. Very easy process. They will text you 5 mins before your food is ready which is nice. Parking is a little tricky as it is on a pretty popular street but we were able to find street parking. We got the waffle roll, broken rice (chicken and pork), Vietnamese coffee. Everything was very flavorful. But we preferred the pork over the chicken. The coffee is a little on the sweeter side but that's Vietnamese coffee! One star off because of the price. $15 for a broken rice meal is just too much in my opinion but I get it, everything is more expensive in DC. Would I go back? Yes, but probably only for some special occasion maybe due to price

Not an extensive menu, but everything was good. Quality over quantity! We got: Waffle Wrap Egg Rolls Com Tam BBQ Pork Rice Noodles BBQ Pork Banh Mi Sticky Rice with Shredded Chicken Shrimp Spring Rolls My favorite were the waffle wrap egg rolls and the banh mi. Also definitely get their drinks, was surprised by them! Got their Signature Milk Tea and the Jasmine Milk Green Tea. The tea flavor is really there!

I ordered Bun cha Ha Thanh (Hanoi's Signature Grilled Pork Noodles), Xoi Thit Nuong (BBQ Pork Sticky Rice), and Egg Milk Coffee. The Bun cha Ha Thanh was very well seasoned and flavorful. The sweet and sour dipping sauce helped bringing all the ingredients together. Their Xoi Thit Nuong was so delicious. It brought back my childhood food memories. This was my first time trying Egg milk coffee so I didn't have any kind of expectations. First impression was the drink looked very fancy and pretty. I took a sip and instantly fell in love. It was sweet but not throat cutting. I would literally come here everyday for the coffee if I lived nearby. Oh, also, the interior is so cute! The service was excellent! I will definitely come back.

Kolben is more like Covid, the worse vietnamise food I have ever had, the chicken more like ratckenchi flavor and look like it was pick up at the corner where they left the K out, unsafe for the public please with food wise dont allow yourself to play in the kitchen floor or should i show you the way you prepare it maybe tha way the cilbup wouldallow to judge by the manners we prepare our food to the public next ratonme try it your own and the higine what a dissapointed on your food the vietnamise culture should be ashame of this flavor !

No wonder this place is 5 stars! I ordered two combos with Banh Mi - bbq pork and fried egg with no pâté (vegetarian), milk tea, lychee oolong and shrimp spring rolls through GrubHub. Estimated delivery was 30-40 minutes (waited about an hour). The banh mi came on a baguette with pickled vegetables, cilantro, and jalapeños. The shrimp spring rolls are made with peanut butter sauce, greens and noodles. I thought everything was delicious and fairly-priced (about $10 per combo). The drinks came with a lot of ice, but the flavors were great. The lychee oolong was made with full pieces of lychee rather than jelly. Great flavors! Great spot for quick and easy lunch/dinner.

BEYOND IMPRESSED. Coming from Southern California, it's been very difficult for me to find quality Vietnamese food reminiscent of home. I saw a number of great reviews and questioned if the food was truly that great. So, I decided to order the Com Tam with bbq pork and their signature milk tea. Com tam: I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I was more than impressed especially because the portions were VERY generous and the flavors were perfectly savory. When I placed the order over the phone, they asked whether I wanted to include the egg or not-- which was an interesting option, but also considerate to ask? The rice was cooked perfectly, not too dry and not too wet. The packaging was beautiful and to go containers had air vents for the food as well-- potentially to minimize sogginess. They also placed the pickled daikon and carrots on the side in a small bag! Signature milk tea: I have not been able to find amazing milk tea. Franchises in the area such as Share tea, Gong cha, and Kung fu tea cannot compare to the quality of tea and balance 1914 Kolben signature milk tea provides. My future order will definitely include two milk teas, instead of one. The milk tea caught be off guard in the most pleasant way possible. It is comparable to 7-leaves of California. The reviews are right, this place is so AMAZING and nostalgic of home. I will definitely be a regular.

After a fun and tiring concert, my partner and I stopped by 1914 as it was close to the venue and looked appealing online. We were seated quickly and ordered the bun cha ha thanh (vermicelli with grilled pork meatballs) and bun cha gio chay (rice vermicelli with vegetarian egg rolls). We waited 15-20 minutes for the food, which was presented cleanly. My partner enjoyed his bun cha and thought the meatballs were juicy and tender and had a flavor profile similar to what the meatballs he had in Hanoi (he's Vietnamese). My noodles were cooked perfectly and the assortment of herbs and vegetables complemented the sweetness and tanginess of the fish sauce. The egg rolls were crispy and a bit chewy but still maintained good flavor. While not spectacular by my partner's standards, the place had a fun and lively ambiance combined with decor that felt hipster yet reminiscent of Hanoi.

I had the crispy rice with bbq chicken and pork, with the waffle wrapped shrimp egg rolls and it was delicious! What impressed me even more was the attentiveness and friendly staff. Highly recommend!
