Best Restaurants in Roswell, Georgia | Eater Atlanta

"This Prohibition-inspired new American restaurant strikes a balance between trendy and traditional, thanks to an eclectic menu of internationally inspired fare and an impressive cocktail list that artfully mixes the classics with innovative sips. While the bang bang cauliflower and walnut-crusted trout are reason enough to book a return visit, it’s the warm hospitality from owners Howard and Jenna Aronowitz that keeps locals coming back night after night. It’s rare for Jenna not to pop by your table for a check in to make sure your evening is perfect, whether with a wine recommendation or a gratis birthday shot." - Sarah Bisacca

Raise a Toast to Bartenders With Tequila Cocktails at These Atlanta Bars | Eater

"While it likes to call itself a speakeasy, 1920 Tavern’s actual name is plenty accurate. It’s a global gastropub with design elements of the 20s – think antique mirrors, globe lighting, leather banquettes, diamond-shaped tiles. This season, ask for the organic skinny margarita – one of their “never blended” tequila drinks – with Teremana. Or try a paloma or their Teremana-enhanced ranch water. But don’t feel beholden to geography when ordering accompanying bites. Find some New Orleans flair in oysters chargrilled or Rockefeller, a hint of Hawaiian in the lamb sliders, steamed mussels that veer French or Mexican, or Peri-Peri chicken that might just be a nod to owner Howard and Jenna Aronowitz’s South African roots." - Su-Jit Lin

Excellent overall experience from beginning to end. We popped in for an early dinner to beat the crowd so we didn’t need a reservation. Our server was excellent and I wish I remembered her name to give her credit. The owner stopped by to see how our dinner was as well. They also use food runners so you’re never waiting on the server if she gets too busy. All of these are signs of a great place. They have a good-sized menu with lots of options no matter what you’re in the mood for. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we didn’t have a single issue with anything.

We went there for dinner last night, the pear salad was delicious, along with the Mediterranean platter, and the mussels were superb. Service was great, my girlfriend like the sangria and lemon drop martini. We will be back.

Busy night but the hostess got us in quickly. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The food and service couldn't be beat! If you like oysters, the Rockefellers won't disappoint. The lobster and shrimp ravioli was superb. Reggie was beyond helpful and attentive. I loved how he made sure we stayed hydrated. Can't wait to do it again ! Thanks guys!

This was my 2nd time back at this establishment but for lunch instead of dinner. The bartender - he’s been there forever! Nice guy, very knowledgeable and made some nice recommendations. The place definitely gives a chic pub feel that’s pretty casual but the menu shows that they are creative and have an elevated menu. I thoroughly enjoyed their short rib small plate. It pleasantly surprised me with how much flavor and tender it was. The fried sweet potato cake was a nice touch to balance out some of the fattiness and the sweet chili was decadent. I didn’t care for the small amount of shredded cheese sprinkled around it but overall it was a solid dish. If you like bourbon, they have a very big selection and also serve a lot of the traditional classic cocktails. I didn’t love my espresso martini but he made due with what they had, but I’ve enjoyed a very good cosmo from here.

Amazing food and drinks with a cool atmosphere that does karaoke. The manager Dion did an awesome job making sure we had a great experience.

Absolutely fantastically delicious food. We kept it simple with fish & chips. Never had chips quite like these - thinly sliced and seasoned. The coleslaw was perfectly balanced with notes of tangy & sweet. Superb service and nice atmosphere. Will dine again. 10/10 would recommend!

Lyric was an amazing hostess. She was polite and kind. We were fortunate to have Austin as our server. He was so fun and attentive to our needs. What a great evening thanks to these two!

1920 Tavern is a cozy, upscale gastropub that offers a unique dining experience blending classic charm with a modern twist. Located in the heart of historic Roswell, Georgia, the tavern is known for its warm, welcoming ambiance, with decor that reflects the Prohibition era, including dim lighting, leather seating, and vintage-inspired details. The menu is thoughtfully curated, featuring elevated American fare with Southern influences. Standout dishes include the flavorful truffle fries, expertly crafted burgers, and a selection of fresh seafood options. The cocktail menu is equally impressive, offering prohibition-inspired drinks alongside modern favorites, all crafted with care. 1920 Tavern’s attentive service and relaxing atmosphere make it a great spot for date nights, gatherings with friends, or a casual evening out. Whether you’re stopping by for a meal or just a cocktail, it’s a place that effortlessly combines history, flavor, and Southern hospitality.

Yelp
We went last night for the first time and really enjoyed it. We ate outdoors (I liked the outside better than the inside which was nice but pretty noisy). Although we had reservations we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated, but we were not in a rush so it was okay. Cocktails were great, food was delicious and portions were a good size. Brittany the manager is very engaged checking on customers and making sure everyone is happy. We loved it and will return!

Yelp
This still REALLY BOTHERS me, over 5 years later, and I continue to experience emotional trauma and flashbacks and thoughts I can't stop, not because of what happened but because of how I was obviously poisoned that evening, but because of how the place were it occurred responded. What they claim are lies. And the reason for lying makes no sense to me at all. I didn't accuse them of anything other than being extremely horrible to an obvious victim of a crime, and their response was to try to blackmail me and spread lies about me. I had MY FRIEND call 911 bc I lost feeling in my legs, had been explosively sick, and could feel myself losing consciousness after only having 3 drinks with a high tolerance. I locked myself in the bathroom for safety because the bartender was pounding on the door and telling my friend and I to "leave now you drunk b***** get the f*** out of my bar" which made no sense as we'd have drinks there and paid for them. They claimed we walked in off the street and asked to use their bathroom! Lies!! They claimed THEY called the police?! LIES!! They claimed my friend was taken out in handcuffs?! Lies! She met me at the hospital in an UBER!! If anyone wants to know anything else about that evening please reach out to me. If they try to follow through on their threats, I know a good lawyer and I am not afraid of them anymore. (I am however still afraid of ever going out again without a man with me, which is sad. Because my independence was my favorite quality before this occurred.) It's been 5 1/2 years, I never claimed this business or its workers did anything to me except their treatment of me during the time of which I was both a victim of someone else, and also a paying customer visiting their establishment. As the police told me when I made my own report, against them, it is not slander nor libel when you tell the TRUTH. If they have this "video," then they also have proof of the way their bartender tried to terrify me instead of helping me when I couldn't even help myself.

Yelp
Shrimp and Lobster spaghetti was absolutely tasteless. The lobster was cold and underwhelming. Calamari was frozen from a huge bag but the sauce was amazing. Maybe drinks only would be the option for 1920 Tavern.....NOT FOOD!! I truly apologize for not mentioning ......My husband ate the shrimp and grits because he liked it. I thought it was OVER sauced! I didn't know by giving my opinion about the food I ate would turn into this. I first wanted Ravioli but Reggie explained they WERE NOT Scratch made!! But the sauce on the ravioli was scratch made. I took my food home because I PAID FOR IT!! Can you understand that? Jenna A. (Owner) changed her original response!! If you notice she only responds to negative comments about her establishment. I feel attacked for speaking my truth!! I truly apologize, my intent was not to bash your "small minority business"! Again, I spoke my truth!!

Yelp
We came here once before and it was so loud in here it split our ears! Seriously had headaches after we left but the food was good so we always said we would come back. Tonight was the night.. it was still loud, but better. However, we got seated, our waiter came to our table, got us waters, and said he would be right back. 15-20 mins later we got up and left. It was already 9pm and we hadn't even ordered drinks yet. At this pace it would have been midnight before we were done... sorry got kids with us... we were out!

Yelp
Made reservations for a small group on a Monday evening. Outdoor seating area was mostly filled, bar seating was limited as well. A hostess stand is located by the sidewalk. We were sat in the front area, against the wall. Here a banquette runs the length of the room with small, two-person tables and chairs on the opposite side. Our pushed together tables were set up waiting for us. After being seated by the hostess our waiter quickly stopped by to introduce themself and have a chat then left to give us time to look over the menu. As often happens with a group, we talked more than we perused the menu so our waiter had to come back a couple of times for our full order. In the mean time, we placed an order for beers and cocktails, and appetizers. The spinach artichoke dip is delicious. Creamy, chunks of artichoke, chips that hold up to the dip and just enough to clear out the bowl. Our waiter asked if we needed more chips, but we were scooping this dip out of the bowl, not just dipping them in, so they were plenty. I had one of their steak options for an entree. The cut was tender and well seasoned. It was cooked a bit more than I ordered and was offered a refire which I declined. Steak continues to cook once off the flame and it was pretty darn close so it was all good. Definitely a delicious meal. It comes with a side of gravy which is well seasoned and a nice addition. The Shepherds pie is chunks of beef with a vegetable mix in gravy covered in mashed potatoes and placed under a broiler. It was enjoyed by more than one person in our group. This restaurant has a casual feel with an upscale dining experience. Staff are friendly and experienced. Two women stopped by at different times to ask how things were going. The food was excellent and although tables are close, it is comfortable seating. A little more room for courses plus beverages and waters, plus silverware on the table top would be welcome. As the sun set outside, the interior lights were turned down and the restaurant filled up. Almost as if the lights going low triggered it, the restaurant got so loud I could no longer hear the person next to me never mind across the table. Luckily we had completed our meal and were ready to depart. With adult beverages, appetizer, entrees plus tip we spent around a hundred dollars per person. Do make a reservation. Paid parking lot is just a couple buildings up the road or try to find on street spot. This was a memorable, very nice evening out.

Yelp
The absolute best on Canton Street. The owners are fantastic. The staff is fantastic. The food is fantastic!

Yelp
1920's has such a nice amount of options. Everything I've had I've enjoyed. Grilled caprese sandwich with tomato soup on a cold day was so good. Yummy crusty bread.

Yelp
This spot is a decent choice for a night out, with a cool vibe, great live music, and an impressive old fashioned. The oysters and calamari are definitely worth trying, but steer clear of the mushroom risotto--it's a miss and I couldn't even finish it. The service is fine, nothing extraordinary but nothing to complain about either. Jeans are a safe bet for attire here. Overall, it's a slightly above-average restaurant with a few standout items and a fun atmosphere.

Yelp
People tell me I am difficult to please but they also know that once I find quality, ambience, and service, I am ok! Found it all at 1920. In its simplicity this restaurant is where you want to eat when you don't know what to eat and when you are looking for fun combinations and flavors! Must try the scallops tacos OMG! Great calamari, short rib tacos. Yum! Fair prices, good service. I was not blown away by the dessert but I am sure it's a matter of personal taste. Going back the day after...today! Looking for a reason to give them another star!

Yelp
Best chicken wings I have had. They are smoked and covered in a mustard based sauce. I've cold beers on tap . Can't wait to Go again

Yelp
We thought we had a reservation but there was an issue with Open Table. The owner said not to worry & took care of us straight away. It was an exceptional experience really. We were a party of 5, sat at the bar, received drinks instantly. The owner overheard me say I was a vegetarian & she came right over to me. She guided me through the entire menu after listening to my preferred veggies. My son had the shrimp n grits, my mother in law- shepherds pie & everything we got was spectacular!!! We can't wait to make the 45 minute drive to experience this beautiful restaurant again. Thank you!! HIGHLY recommend!!

Yelp
Had the best fish sandwich in my life here (Grouper Sandwich) along with a generous portion of fries. Our server was excellent as well. We were seated in the front / bar area. Luckily the table on either side side was not loud or obnoxious because these tables for 2 are about 12 inches apart.

Debbie K.

Yelp
Food was delicious. She chose the Short Rib Shepherd's Pie and the Braised Short Rib with butternut squash and risotto. Both were large portions and filling. I think the Shepherd's Pie slightly won out for flavor, which is surprising because I don't normally like shepherd's pie. The squash on the short rib was caramelized and sweet. Great beer selection and decent whiskey selection. Would have chosen a different dessert if we were to go again; we split the peanut butter bar. Staff was attentive and friendly. Atmosphere outside was great. Dog friendly patio, which was key for us.

Yelp
Food is always great here. I've never had anything bad. However, the espresso martini was such a let down. That's the only thing I don't recommend here. The other drinks are pretty good!

Yelp
We were not disappointed when we came here after a salon day! The hostess sat us immediately, and our server greeted us with some funny jokes and a great attitude. We sat in the back of the restaurant, which gave a more 'homey' ambiance. We almost felt like we were in our own private event space! We loved the food. The cauliflower, beet/melon salad, tacos, and lobster/shrimp pasta were excellent. We were unable to pick a favorite item!!!!! Everything was light, well seasoned, and packed great flavor. A must if you're in downtown Roswell!!

Leslie S.

Yelp
Outstanding experience! Food was awesome. Fried chicken lunch and fish and chips were excellent. Waitress was excellent. Manager /owner was walking around helping staff, checking on customers. Just watching the staff, they were all like family with each other. The entire experience was great!

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday afternoon. Parked in a parking lot behind the restaurant for free. We did have reservations but we ended up sitting at the bar. Bartender was cool, friendly and attentive. We ordered fries to get us started thinking it'd take awhile to get to us since there was a decent amount of people there but our food came out before our fries so the bartender took it off the bill which was nice of her. We ordered the crab cakes which the mister said was delicious. That the sauce on it was very good. We also had the Blackened Trout which I noticed isn't on the menu online. Very light meal. The skin was crispy and the meat was decent. The sauce helped with the flavor. Nothing to brag about it was paired with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts which were very good. We also had a Paloma and the Empress New clothes that had just enough kick to it.

Yelp
We're staying with friends in Roswell. They recommended this place for lunch and we were definitely not disappointed. We started with the smoked old fashioned and a glass of rosé. I ordered one rosé and our waitress Kim suggested that I get the other one instead - she was right, it was delicious! We ordered the crab/shrimp dip and the mussels with the tomato cream sauce (also on Kim's recommendation) intending to still get the grouper sandwich to share. Weeeellllllll, the dip and mussels were so good, and Kim brought us extra bread to soak up more of the delectable sauce that came with the mussels, so we were plenty full afterward. I'm bummed we didn't get to try the grouper but absolutely loved what did try. Thanks, Kim, for the excellent service and the great recommendations!

Jon C.

Yelp
Despite the humorous visual of dangling sperm/ condom-shaped lights in the back room, we had a great meal. Waitress was on top of things, cocktails were good. Fast service. The shrimp and grits with andouille sausage hit the spot. Bang bang cauliflower was a solid choice for starter. Boneless short rib risotto was tasty. Great to see families out eating with their kids. The Owner as always is floating around wishing everyone well. Good vibe.

Yelp
It pains me to write such a review ... I've been to 1920 now a handful of times & every time I'm there something goes awry! This time it was my breaking point thus leaving such a crappy review. Also let me say food is mediocre, they do some things very good and something's are just eh. Their cocktail and wine list is pretty great which again is why it pains me write such a bad review. The past two times I've been here someone has spilled something on me. Last time was the ketchup all over my pants and jacket this time was an entire glass of water which reached every shoe in my party of 3 as well as soaked my dog. The flood gates opened up everyone got drenched ! Our waitress was lovely as was the gentleman JJ who brought us our food which is why it's a bummer because it's not there daily that I will not be back. They're needs to be better staff training and overall a better quality of service/ staff at this establishment. Being in the industry for over 2 decades myself , in 2 big foodie cities ( PHL and LA) I can't stand when dumb sh*t happens to affect a restaurant negatively. When mistakes such as these happen a bill is picked up or at the very least a meal is taken off the menu. Alas management has not once done eithe AND the food simply is not that good to warrant any solution other than something comp'ed. And yes today is St.Patricks and it was lively , not slammed but the spill was solely the stupidity of the gal refilling our glasses, and 5 minutes later another staff member broke a glass at the able directly next to us.

Yelp
Amazing food and the service was even better. Our server Taylor was friendly, attentive and so amazingly professional. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
First time visiting on a busy Saturday night. Wait was estimated at an hour, got the text that we were ready, but the hostess hit the wrong button and we were told we had to wait another 10(ended up being 15) mins to be seated. Asked if we could be given a app as it was my first time and experienced this right out of the gate and was told "you should be lucky you got in because we have reservations booked for 2 months out!" Checked OpenTable and they had tables for the largest parties in all prime time spots Yikes. Food was decent. The wings with pom frites and carolina bbq sauce was amazing, but my shrimp and grits lacked flavor. Our server was nice and staff attentive. I would try them again with a different hostess and backing manager, but only if someone asked me. Not somewhere I'd be eager to visit on my own.

Yelp
Ladies lunch and we each had the pear salad with salmon added. The salmon was cooked perfectly! The salad has so many little goodies in it and the dressing is perfect. It's the best light lunch while leaving you completely full.

Yelp
The service was amazing from when we checked in to host stand all the way to our server. The manager or owner I believe also checked in on us during our lunch. This is downtown Roswell so parking is tricky as they don't have their own lot. My husband devoured his tacos and the burger wasn't bad either the kids meals were huge which we were not expecting but it was nice to be able to take it to go! They also had coloring papers for the kids as well. This place is casual and divey. We sat outside as the inside is small it's mostly the bar and some booths. Again it was great time here and we will come back!

Sidney C.

Yelp
Just came for some appetizers and was blown away. The food was truly delicious!! Would come back again 10/10.

Yelp
Amazing place the food was so good. We had appetizers main courses and dessert and they were all fantastic. The service was impeccable inside of the cutest little place.

Yelp
My mom and I came here for lunch and it was delicious!! Grabbed a glass of wine, the crab cakes and a salad and would do it again! We sat outside which was very pleasant!

Yelp
We were looking for a place to grab a nice (late) lunch in Roswell between activities (and locations) on our wedding anniversary. The reviews for this place and the variety in the menu pulled us in. We made a reservation online the morning of and were able to get a table at our preferred time. When we arrived, the place was quite packed as might be expected on a sunny Saturday afternoon, but we were seated right away. Part of the reason I wanted to eat in Roswell is because of the Summer Sippin' drink contest (https://www.summersippin.com) the restaurants are doing. Our waitress was new so she didn't know about their featured drink, the Twisted Sister Mojito. She was very helpful in getting the drink ordered from what she called a "secret menu." Other than that, she was very knowledgeable about the menu items and was willing to offer recommendations. We ultimately didn't like any of the food, but here's what we ordered: --Soup of the day. It was a creamy butternut squash soup. Overall, it was well made but the flavor was too plain/simple for me. It reminded me of a purée I'd make for my infant daughter; tasty just not what I was looking to eat. It would probably be better paired with some other food rather than as a solo appetizer. --Wedge salad. Here's the thing: I LOVE wedge salads...typically. This wedge salad, however, was underwhelming. The iceberg lettuce was crisp but mostly yellow and white so what tiny bit of flavor you can expect from iceberg was missing. The toppings were for some reason just okay. I ate much of the toppings with as little of the lackluster iceberg. --Chilean Sea Bass. This was my husband's entree. He thought the fish was too thick and thus needed more seasoning. He ate the veggies that came with it but not the potatoes, and thought the sauce was okay. --Cajun Chicken & Shrimp Pasta. This was my entree. It was plated beautifully (see picture) but that's about it. The sauce didn't have enough flavor or seasoning, the grill marks on the chicken tasted extremely burnt, and the shrimp was cooked well but unseasoned. It was just okay. --Twisted Sister Mojito. Here's the description from the Summer Sippin website: "Fresh lime, Mint, Watermelon-infused simple syrup, Either Bacardi or Don Q Silver Rum, Topped with Soda and Garnished with Lime and Mint" ....ummm it didn't look like the example picture on the website and didn't taste like it was melon-infused. It felt very thrown together. I would never order this again. Overall, the experience was a strong "meh." None of the dishes were the type of memorable that would bring us back.

Yelp
This is my new favorite restaurant in downtown Roswell. I went on a Monday without reservation and it was busy! It took about 20 minutes to be seated. I recommend getting reservation if you don't want to wait. But great service from host and waiter! All the food on the menu is reasonably priced. There are sooo many options, but I landed on getting the short rib entree and it was perfection. Delicious! Delicious bottle of Merlot paired with my dish for a great price. Highly recommend trying it out. I will be back again soon to try more items

Yelp
The food was delicious, I was very well attended and the service was excellent, the waiter was very attentive. The ambiance is super nice. I really recommend !!!

Yelp
Great spot in downtown Roswell with a cool speakeasy feel inside. They have a big variety of food to choose from for lunch, dinner and brunch. A few suggestions are the Mediterranean platter, fried chicken, Reuben, steak sandwich, chopped salad and the short rib. The drinks are great here too so definitely check it out.

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Was in town for my son's baseball team. I wanted a nice place for dinner to celebrate my birthday. I was in the mood for shrimp and grits... this did not disappoint. It was delicious.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Wow! Best lunch I've had in a long time!! Service was on point. The only negative was the blasting music coming from the kitchen battling with the nice ambiance in the dining room. Other than that, love it here!

Ron D.

Yelp
We eat there often- the service and food is excellent. The dishes never cease to amaze. Red

Yelp

Yelp
Excellent Food! Great service and great location. A choice of indoor or outdoor seating. The bar makes great drinks. Fun and fabulous atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I have been coming to this place for almost a decade now and have never had a bad meal. It's on the pricier end, so dinners here are typically for when we have guests from out of town or our doing a couples date night with friends. However, their lunches are also great and pretty reasonable. Their best attribute is their bartenders! On more than one occasion, I've been out for drinks andasked the bartender to surprise me and have never been disappointed.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots in downtown Roswell! The drinks are always great and the food is even better. I love the old 1920's style and the service is top notch. Can't wait to get back!

Yelp
A happening spot in Roswell on a Wednesday night. We snagged a table right away and the cocktails were great. It's really loud on a busy night but the service was quick and friendly. Looking forward to trying some food next time!

Yelp
Our first time at 1920. The food was fabulous and our server, Mirella, was amazing!! We will be back!!

Yelp
A wonderful place to have a good time with a friend or group's friends. The food is excellent and they have a wide variety. The service is excellent. The owner is charming.

Yelp
First of all, great atmosphere! This was a fun little nook/bar/pub my husband and I had the pleasure of dining at tonight. The staff were great! From being greeted, to bar, and table service we had smiling faces and everyone was very tentative! I wanted to harp about two things specifically...one, our server was so awesome!! Her name was Desire(e?) and she made our experience over the top! I can be quite the "Karen"(a bit needy and extra!) but this sever kept smiling and met my every request! She kept great conversation with us and she was even a female beer brewer! Second, the trout dish...omg!! DELICIOUS!! I am a huge fan of trout and eat this dish as often as I can find it on a menu. This place takes a top 3 in the local area! The lemon cream sauce was such a perfect enhancement without overpowering the fish! Such a delightful dish! I do have to say, it was very small inside with limited space(especially around the entrance/bar area) which I guess should be expected for the DTR strip . It could also get quite loud at times making it difficult to hear. The bathrooms were clean and even had little "extras" for "just in case"! Great service, great food, great atmosphere! Will definitely be going back for round two!!

Zane W.

Yelp
Great food at a very fair price leaving you satisfied. Great ambiance and location. Will definitely be revisiting.

Yelp
Some of the best owners in Roswell. They have a great food offering, and always have fun live music. It's one of those bars where everybody knows you by your name. Love it.

Yelp
Conveniently located on Canton Street, this is a great restaurant! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the manager came to check on diners towards the end of their meals. Their website states there is free valet parking on Webb St, but we were unable to find this. There is a $5 lot on the corner that is easy if unable to find free parking. We ordered the beef and veggie soup, which was amazing. It was brought out with the meals instead of ahead, which was not a huge deal but not ideal. For entrees, our group had the ahmazing burger, fish and chips, and the blackened trout. Each entree was delicious and had sizable portions. We will be back!
