"While it likes to call itself a speakeasy, 1920 Tavern’s actual name is plenty accurate. It’s a global gastropub with design elements of the 20s – think antique mirrors, globe lighting, leather banquettes, diamond-shaped tiles. This season, ask for the organic skinny margarita – one of their “never blended” tequila drinks – with Teremana. Or try a paloma or their Teremana-enhanced ranch water. But don’t feel beholden to geography when ordering accompanying bites. Find some New Orleans flair in oysters chargrilled or Rockefeller, a hint of Hawaiian in the lamb sliders, steamed mussels that veer French or Mexican, or Peri-Peri chicken that might just be a nod to owner Howard and Jenna Aronowitz’s South African roots." - Su-Jit Lin
