Had a fantastic lunch for my Dad’s 90 th at 21 . Staff were fantastic and extremely welcoming and attentive . Beautifully crisp table linen and setting , non fussy but kind attentive service and the set lunch was just perfect , covered all bases appealing to my 2 teenage sons aswell as the more seasoned palate of my parents . Beautiful fluffy soufflé, followed by duck and a fab rose water crème with marinaded strawberries , delicious . Fab home made bread too . Other offerings were sea bream crudo with fresh peas , chicken terrine , Hake with ratatouille and pepper corn steak . Can’t thank the staff enough for making it all seemless on such a special day . Thankyou 21 , great place

Great restaurant to visit for an occasion. I had my graduation meal here and was offered the private dining room free of charge. We had a lovely meal, with great service and delicious food. Good option to have the fixed menu available

It's on the Michelin guide. The service is good. The restaurant is beautiful. It's a great place for a special occasion. The cote de bouef and the lobster were nice. At £100 for the steak and £54 for the lobster it's not cheap. I've had better steak and better lobster elsewhere for less. I would like to come back for the tasting menu.

Nice location, Staff are polite and professional and very welcoming, nicely laid out and a very nice ambiance. Excellent choice of wines, cocktails and none alcoholic drinks. We had Sunday lunch and there was a nice choice of starter, mains and desserts. The food was lovely and the presentation was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely incredible food and top notch service! Me and my fiancée visited for her birthday and we opted to try the seasonal multi-course menu (named ‘Bang in Season’). The flavours were delicious and varied, with a very high quality of cooking present. The dishes were served fairly quickly without any long delays, and the servers were courteous and attentive. The standout dish for us was the John Dory served with Pea puree, Bacon and Summer Truffle; absolutely sensational cooking. They even heard me mention that we were having a birthday celebration and brought a small piece of cake with a candle at the end, which put a massive smile on her face. Highly recommended for a special occasion meal or if you want something fancy for a reasonable price!

What a treat, nothing for Gordon Ramsay to do here. From decor, ambience, clientele, service (staff so knowledgeable) to of course the food. Fresh, quality ingredients lovingly prepared. Hope to see you again soon, well done!

Truly 10/10, really great service and the food was sooooo gooood! Every dish was delicious, ordered the tempura oysters, spinach souffle, deer and lemon sole with a side of mash (so smooth, perfect texture) and ended with banana soufflé. Also best amaretto sours I've tasted ina while. Was very impressed and will definitely be back. Shout out to our waiter Ollie! Sadly I didn't get names of the other members of staff but everyone was great.

We visited 21 for a special occasion and had a marvellous evening. We started with excellent cocktails, French 75, which I found paired especially well with the oysters we ordered. We tried both the Sashimi and Tempura oysters and we loved them. The tomato ponzu gave the oysters a delightfully fresh zing while the oyster mayonnaise was very rich and full of umami. After the oysters we had the white asparagus with ham and truffle which was packed full of flavour. However the absolute star of our dinner was undoubtedly the Tournedos Rossini. The filet mignon was cooked precisely rare, as ordered, and it was beautifully seared on the outside and very tender and tasty on the inside. The seared truffle and foie gras gave the dish a luxurious richness which was perfectly offset by what tasted to me like mustard in the mashed potatoes which were smooth and buttery. The crown of potato crisps gave the dish an exciting crunch, which balanced the overall textures. Finally, the crouton under the steak tasted divine as it had soaked up the juices from the fillet and the Madeira sauce. I would certainly love to go back and try more of their menu and of course would recommend a visit

Yelp
The food is very good. You have to make a reservation to come here. I recommend to come here when in NewCastle. Must go.

Yelp
Cafe 21 is a nice option for higher-end European food in Newcastle's Quayside. The menu is extensive and offers a nice range of locally inspired Continental dishes. For my main I ordered the roast of Northumbrian venison which was served with sour cherries, grapes, bacon & walnuts in a juniper sauce & accompanied by a side of Spätzle (German style egg gnocchi)---see photo:) While the dish sounds too unnecessarily complex, the unique flavours of the dish actually worked well together. Great attentive service---the wait staff know the menu well and were quick to offer suggestions. While there was a mix up with my drink order and it was resolved unbelievably quick with no attitude whatsoever. The also kindly offered to order a taxi. Prices are high by Newcastle standards-but you definitely get what you pay for!

Yelp
We go out for what we hoped to be a lovely meal but turns into a evening of pain. After receiving our starters and the complimentary rock solid bread, after 1 bite it breaks my front tooth in half. Arguable annoyed, I tell the staff, they go on to give me a card so I can speak to their insurance and the manager promised me they will pay my dental bill. Still having to pay full price for the food which came to £50 (food was average at best) my dental bill came to £300. After receiving the treatment they have the cheek to tell me they're not negligible so won't be paying me a dime. I'm sorry but what is £300 to a restaurant who charge £70 for a steak? Not thinking of the customer one bit, just thinking about keeping their pennies for themselves. Utter disgrace from this so called respectable establishment.

Yelp
I've been to both branches of this restaurant (the one that was in Durham and the one in Newcastle) several times and they have never failed to amaze me with the quality of food. I have never tasted food so great in my entire life despite my relentless attempts to recreate what I have eaten there. The portions are small but extremely satisfying and full you up. The waiters/waitresses are all extremely professional yet have a nice down to earth side too and the vibe is immaculate. It is obviously more on the pricey side but it my opinion every bite is worth it. Hats off to the chefs because I have never tasted food so delicious is my life. 5stars from me and everyone in my family

Yelp
Went here for a Saturday lunch and it is REALLY deserving of 5 stars. Great classically Continental food which is high-end (more so for dinner) but just delicious and so worth it if you can treat yourself. Great for lunch and I highly recommend the set menu with an appetizer and entree or entree and dessert for £16.95. Or you could splurge and get all three for £20. The portions aren't huge but you will leave satisfied. I recommend Mediterranean-anything here as well as the lamb and spiced couscous. The steak was lovely and the desserts are normally cream-based delights. They aren't as nice as the appetizers and mains, though. If you are really wanting to hear a negative...that's it! It's not like other places which serve you pretentiousness and mediocrity. The food is deliciously epicurean and the place is posh. In fact, there was an intimate bridal lunch at the table next to us. The wait staff is really friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the cuisine. Hat's off! Basically, a stylish modern bistro leaving you with a gourmet gastronomic experience. Sets the bar high for competing Newcastle restaurants!

Yelp
Came here on the recommendation of a customer and was really impressed with my meal. Smart renditions of European mainstays. I had already eaten a bit earlier in the night so I stuck to appetizers. I had the wild garlic and leek soup (creamy and rich without weighing you down) and the Oeuf Bourgignon (cracklings are spot-on; you can't go wrong with duck). Will definitely try to come back the next time that I'm in Newcastle. Hopefully with a bigger appetite because the mains sounded and smelled really great.

Yelp
4 stars might seem harsh for what is in my opinion thebest restaurant in Newcastle. The 5th star will coe when the ewer waiting staff ick up the excellent habits of the staff who worked a the previous Cafe 21 (21 Queen street). Food is seasonal, high quality with clear provenance. It is a moderatley expnsive restaurant with best value at a lunchtime (£17 for 3 courses without wine). The old cafe 21 was perhaps less sleek but perhaps more cosy. The new restaurant has at lunchtime more suited Lawyers/ business types. Final verdict; very good-likely to be excellent soon

Yelp
Great for a special evening. Lovely food, although they need to be careful. More attention to your seafood please. Great desserts. Fantastic service.

Yelp
A shrine to outstanding food steered by the senior statesman of northern cuisine Terry Laybourne. Look out for his other properties

Yelp
Ate at restaurant week (basically early evening menu) and thought it was brilliant.. large portions (for the outstanding quality and compared to similar restautants. Great decor and air con too made for a lively relaxed experience. Now one of our favourite restaurants.
