9 Essential Sandwiches for Fall - Eater NY

"In the summer, nobody wants a dense and greasy sandwich, but in the fall the floodgates are open — bring on the calories! The croque madame is a Parisian brasserie classic that one-ups the croque monsieur by tossing a runny egg on top, guaranteeing you’ve got to eat this baby with a knife and fork. Bechamel coats the top, and inside find ham and melted gruyere, salty and gooey, $25." - Robert Sietsema

Yelp
Our friend took us to Café Chelsea where we had a nice quiet ending to our Saturday evening. It was a classy establishment, and the bartenders played up the vibe with their dapper white suit jackets and ties. I would go as far as saying that the bartenders made my night. They were hilarious and fun to talk to. I peeked at the menu and realized that the place was a French bistro. I wasn't in much of a drinking mood, so I opted for a dessert instead. I got the almond pear tarte, which tasted like a hug. The ultimate comfort food. My husband ordered the lavender colada mocktail, which was excellent. If the food and drinks were this good, I look forward to coming back and trying more things off the menu.

Yelp
We visited Cafe Chelsea for brunch before a matinee in NYC at the recommendation of a friend. I easily made reservations in advance, and we were promptly seated once we arrived. The space is beautiful and elegant - it really feels like you're back in the 20s! We sat near the bar, but I wish I would have explored more of their dining area to take in the whole restaurant. Our server was kind; they seemed to be in a little bit of a hurry at first with taking our order, but then once we got our food and were finishing up, their attention tailed off. No big deal since we weren't in a rush, but the change was surprising. For food, the focus in French cuisine, featuring a variety of sweet and savory dishes as well as pastries. I went for the Florentine (eggs Benedict with spinach), and my husband went for the Croque Madame. My dish was solid, with the eggs perfectly poached and the Hollandaise being the "just right" amount without overwhelming the dish. I was a little disappointed in the English muffin that held the contents - it was a little weak, and for being a French spot, I would have enjoyed a brioche or croissant instead of the standard and lackluster muffin. The small side salad was a nice accompaniment, and I much preferred this to breakfast potatoes for a lighter touch. My husband enjoyed his dish, sharing that it was well done. We paired our meals with regular drip coffee, which hit the spot but was not overly memorable. At ~$25 per dish, Cafe Chelsea is certainly on the pricier side, but then again, it's NYC pricing and in an upscale environment so it's not surprising. The food was solid, but not my favorite brunch that I've had and could have used a little more oomph. I would definitely return for the vibes and to try other menu items that hopefully bump this review up to a 4 or 5!

Yelp
Café Chelsea nails the vibe--elegant but unfussy, with polished service and a menu that mostly delivers. The highlight was the classic French-style omelet: soft-scrambled on the inside, perfectly set on the outside, with just the right amount of melted Gruyère. Served with a handful of fresh greens and solid sourdough toast, it's a light but satisfying plate done right. The Quebec-style pain perdu--a thick slice of brioche with a crumb topping, powdered sugar, and melting ice cream--looked more decadent than it tasted. Warm, rich, and well-executed, but didn't quite hit the "wow" factor. Good, not unforgettable. Coffee was strong and smooth, and the space itself is gorgeous--classic café design with great energy. A reliable brunch spot with a few standout dishes. Worth a visit, especially if you're in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I was meeting up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. I don't live in New York anymore so I had asked her to pick a restaurant. She picked this restaurant in the Chelsea Hotel. The hotel is historic and gorgeous. Inside in the lobby where we had drinks, I felt it was like a museum with all the artwork. Inside the restaurant was gorgeous. The food was also very good. I shared a cheeseburger with my friend and my cousin had the steak frites. I also ordered the ravioli to share. Both were really good. Also this place is very busy. My friend snagged Friday night reservations at 8:30pm. Definitely have reservations before you go. All in all, a new cool New York experience. Places like this make me really miss living in the city.

Yelp
I met a friend at Cafe Chelsea for brunch with an open mind but fairly low expectations. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and I really enjoyed looking at the finishes selected throughout the restaurant. I also liked the name branded coffee saucers and the china overall. Service is where Cafe Chelsea shines, our waiter was so nice, didn't balk at our order (we shared 3 dishes) and really gave us our time at the table. For such a busy brunch restaurant, this European standard of service is much welcomed in New York. Food-wise I also enjoyed myself , although slightly less than with the decor and service. I had the fine herb omlette which was perfectly fine, I added gruyere to push the omlette's price over $30 (mon Dieu) and I would recommend going with the potatoes for the side. I also had the vichyssoise soup, which I forgot to ask what kind of stock it is made with, and it tasted like beef stock to me, but either way, not vegetarian (fail on my part). Finishing off with the pain perdu, this was delicious and very sweet, I doubt I could have finished it if I ordered it by myself... definitely more of a "for the table" dish.

Yelp
I came here for the Ravioles du dauphine which i liked! It's like a sheet of ravioli with a buttery sauce. For appetizer, we had the chèvre croquettes which was on the small side but I liked how the cheese paired well with honey. My partner had the steak frites which I thought was good because the meat was cooked well and the fries were crispy and plentiful. We had the chocolate soufflé for dessert which was decadent. Note that it takes a little bit of time for the chocolate soufflé to prepare and they do note this on the menu. I would recommend this place to try!

Yelp
Very nyc French cafe/bistro. The ambiance and decor is very nice. Service was good. Food was good, standard. We came for brunch had a couple of salads, sides, coffee, drinks and it was 60/person. It's in a nice location. I think what stands out the most is it feels unique and not just another French bistro type place.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and to celebrate a friend's birthday. The drinks were really good! We got the ravioli to start and it was remarkable. We each got our own entrees, I got the maitake mushroom. The sauce of the mushroom was delicious it had a deep rich taste to it and lots of umami. My only complaint is that it would be better if they served it with some bread. You can order bread or fries on the side but it will cost extra. And the dish itself is already quite pricey for a mushroom dish. The service was very good and the restaurant ambience was bustling. The decor of the restaurant was beautiful. It's definitely a place worth checking out for its vibe.

Yelp
Our waiter was attentive and patient with us as we looked over drinks. We had appetizers- fries, coquettes, baby ravioli and steak tartar. Everything was yummy minus the coquettes and the soufflé. The breading on coquettes left a weird mouth feel and aftertaste. The soufflé was doughy and gummy- not cooked through unfortunately. The drinks were creative and delicious so definitely come for the bar!

Yelp
Hate to say because this is such a beautiful cafe, and the food *can* be very very good, but service was just so bad this time that I don't think I want to keep going back. Only one of us had received our drink by the time our entrees arrived, the burger we ordered medium was fully well done, just all around a bad scene

Yelp
It belongs. I'm obsessed with the atmosphere and interior here. Steak was good. Maitake Au Poivre so tasty! Ravioli wasn't my fav. Frites was perfectly salted and crispy. Chickpea Fries was a bit mushy. Will come back to try brunch and dessert.

Yelp
I find that Cafe Chelsea having so many negative reviews interesting. Usually when I see a place having less than 4 stars I stay away, but as native New Yorker who was hanging with a life long friend who is a huge Sid Vicious fan, we have been wanting to come to Cafe Chelsea for a while. The building itself, is on the registry of National landmarks. The interior is beautiful and charming. It's amazing really. We walked into the bar area which is where there are a bunch of booths and this is where we were seated. This is back In August. Last week, I returned with another friend who was dying to go there and we sat in the same area. The first visit, we were seated right away, the second time it took a few minutes and I'm pretty sure we ran into the same resting bitch face hostess that other people have complained about. We ended up seated by someone else. I'm not sure why she is in this line of work. She is not nice and doesn't acknowledge you, But thats her and their problem. Going to just list of food eaten for both visits, may have to go by memory: Salad with avocado and seared Tuna: yum yum The burger with Gruyère, excellent both times. Fries: some of the best in the city, and the dipping sauce, it's out of this world. I asked for recipe but haven't been able to recreate it yet. Omelette with Gruyère , it's ok, nothing to write home about. Overall, it's a great place to come in to sit by the bar, sit in a booth and chat with friends, I hear the happy hour is great, very busy. Just avoid the cranky hostess and the other parts of the restaurant and you'll have a great experience.

Yelp
We dined at this restaurant again and I ordered the Facon Niçoise salad since I have been craving and dreaming about that salad. It was a cold day and we were seated near the door where there was a draft coming in. It was chilly but we didn't complain. Our waitress looks annoyed at us because we didn't know what we wanted to drink. I ordered the pear spritz and it was lovely. Of course, I ordered the Facon Niçoise salad. There is something in this salad that I love! The butter beans, Yes! Olives, Yes! Ahi tuna in top of the salad, Yes! The perfectly soft hard boiled eggs, Yes! The creamy dressing, yes! The way the chefs makes this salad is pure perfection! The service was okay. Our waitress abandoned us and never gave us our check. We had to ask another waitress for our check. I'm coming back just for the Facon Niçoise salad.

Yelp
I have passed by the Chelsea restaurant for years, and I've never stopped into have a bite. Today, I changed that and I'm so glad I did. The interior of this restaurant is beautiful, with the perfect lighting, warm and amber. The music was the perfect volume and selection. Meal started with a potato leak soup which was rich and creamy with a little crunch from the buttery croutons. Ordered steak frites and it was DELICIOUS! Meat was prepared slightly rarer than I requested, which ended up being better for me. Frites were an afterthought, though the mustard for dipping gave them a little punch. And of course they had a beautiful lavender mocktail for this sober sister. And the damn chocolate soufflé brought this meal to 5 stars because what the heck is this delicious, rich bowl of chocolate. DAMN, it's gods!!! Glad I finally took the time to stop in and I can't wait to come back n a lazy afternoon for oysters. (Shout-out to my super cute and kind curly haired waiter. He's a gem).

Yelp
Charming spot with a Parisian vibe, but the standout dish by far is the ravioles du Dauphiné--pillowy, cheese-filled pasta that melts in your mouth. The Salade d'Endives is also a favorite, with a perfect balance of crisp bitterness, tangy dressing, and a satisfying crunch. Great spot for a relaxed meal with a touch of French flair!

Yelp
I was in the area and walked past their outdoor dining area. The lush botanical appearance really struck me, so as I walked back to my car and realized I still had 40 minutes left on my meter, I deced to have a solo brekkie. I popped in and the host staff was very accommodating. They showed me to an outdoor table but I have to say, the interior is equally impressive. It has an old world feel but the staff makes it feel very current and not at all stuffy. I happily sat alone and whipped out my phone so as to get caught up on my current Netflix binge, The Perfect Couple (don't judge me). My server was very nice. For the most part, he was attentive but I lost him when it was time to get the bill. There was a young woman that was serving water to all the tables, so I asked her. It was a nice, quiet meal. I would love to return for dinner because the food pics look amazing. This was a pleasant start to my day and I'm glad I took an impromptu self care moment. I had the Saumon Fumé, with sliced smoked salmon, herbed crème fraîche, capers and toasted sourdough. The crème fraîche was soooo fluffy and light. I could eat that with a spoon. They also served a few lemon slices for the salmon. It was a very nice, light meal. I also had a side of chicken sausage. It was large, nicely seasoned and slightly sweet. I liked it a lot. Mint tea was my choice of bevy and I appreciate the tea setting. It feels like a tea ceremony just for me. I loved every minute. I would and will definitely be back. A girlfriend of mine has a birthday fast-approaching and I know she would love this restaurant. Let the reservations commence!

Yelp
I went here for dinner last week and was really impressed! The ambiance is lovely, the service was overall very attentive, and everything we ordered was excellent. - Steak Frites: I venture to say that this was the best steak frites I've had that wasn't in Paris. The steak was perfectly cooked and the herb butter gave it so much flavor. It was served with a very generous portion of thin, crispy fries. - Grand Plateau: The Grand Plateau seafood tower was next level. It came with lobster, tuna crudo, clams, oysters, and shrimp. We especially loved the tuna crudo but everything was so fresh and delicious. - Dark Chocolate Soufflé: A must-order! The most decadent chocolate soufflé (that is definitely worth the 30 minute wait-time). - La Framboise: This is a seasonal menu item and quite possibly one of the best desserts I've ever had. Olive oil cake, shaped like a raspberry, packed with raspberry jam and chocolate crumble. What's not to love? Will definitely be back at some point for brunch -- and I've also heard that the ravioli is amazing!

Yelp
This place is super cute!! I love Chelsea. I came here for brunch at 12:30 pm with some friends. We were seated in the first dining room tucked away in a corner booth table. What we got: - peach and melon spritzes: I really enjoyed this. Fruity and you can't really taste the alcohol - iced americano - iced mocha - Norwegian: I got the whole so I could get 2 pieces - Bénédicte -Croque-Madame -Saumon Fumé with side of avocado Our server forgot to place our orders in.... So we got our food 20-30 minutes later than we should have. We got some of our coffee drinks taken off the bill. I think I would come back again. I liked the vibes a lot.

Yelp
Loved this place! Came here for breakfast and immediately felt like I had walked into a French bistro in Paris. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a small seating area in the front with natural light streaming in from outside for breakfast patrons. There is also a larger dinner room in the back. We were seated quickly and greeted by our server. We ordered Americanos, the omelet with fine herbs, and the croque-madam. Everything was perfect and delicious! The croque-madam was especially tasty! Definitely try this place out!

Yelp
We made a reservation for Café Chelsea for Christmas Day lunch. So glad we did. First of all, the cafe is located within the beautiful Chelsea Hotel. We enjoyed the hotel lobby fireplace as we waited for everyone to show up. We were promptly seated and had a large booth in the wonderful dining room for the 6 of us. We started off with brunch cocktails and a shrimp cocktail (delicious) which was nice as we got settled in. After that, we had items ranging from unique French toast, croque madame and monsieur, burgers and seared tuna over a salad. All very good. Desserts were awesome as well. Our server and the food runners were examples for all servers to follow: prompt, gave us time while we decided, and accurate. We all had a great experience at Café Chelsea and certainly will go back.

Yelp
Date: Saturday, May 4th, 2024 Time: 11:30am Party of: 5 Meal: Brunch *Frisee Aux Lardons ($24) *Benedict 2 ($24) *Steak Avec ($36) *Side of Fries ($12) *Bacon ($10) *Haricot Verts ($12) *Croque-Madame ($25) *Ginger Hubert ($18) *Bloody Mary Tequila ($17) *Clos Cibonne "Tentations" Rose '21 BTG ($18) x2 *Tissot Rose BTG ($19) x3 I was in town and wanted to meet up a few girlfriends for brunch. One of them suggested Cafe Chelsea. It's been on my list of brunch spots for a while, so I was down to check it out. I believe she made a reservation via Resy about two weeks prior. I'd just gotten off a redeye and couldn't decided what I was craving, so the hubby and I shared the steak and a few sides. The steak was cooked nicely. A good french medium rare. (I find most MR preps overcooked for my tastes.) I adore fries, especially with steak, so these hit the spot. The green beans were tastt as they still retained a nice crunch. The wine pours were generous and paired well with the food. A solid brunch spot. A nice first stop while in NYC.

Yelp
Honestly, such a lovely French breakfast spot inside the Chelsea Hotel. I was stunned when we went for breakfast Saturday morning over the holiday weekend. We didn't have a reservation and didn't have to wait. Every diner in the spot was gorgeous and the interior is lovely. We chose to sit inside as it was quite humid outside but there's gorgeous outdoor seating. The coffee was lovely, albeit a bit small - and the green juice was nice but not a full pour (in a tiny tiny glass) for $12 - it is NYC but come on. We shared the croque madam - a lovely version of it with the french omelette. It was a perfect amount of food and the staff was friendly dressed in their career waiter type uniforms. I would go back anytime I'm in Chelsea for breakfast, it just set the tone right for our day!

Yelp
This place is much more than a cafe. It is a secret haven for foodies. Danny took care of us tonight. He was very polite and a good server. He made sure all our needs were met. 10/10 The ravioli is so cute and tasty at the same time. Highly recommend. The only downside is that it gets cold fast. 9/10. The food here is amazing. The dessert here is worth breaking a diet over. 10/10. I will 100% be back.

Yelp
Such a cute place, but honestly it is a little gimmicky. Drinks were great and make sure you order the bread and butter - it's free but they didn't offer it to us. The tapenade was disgusting in my opinion (but that's on on me for not looking up what it was before ordering). The Raviole sheet is nice but again more on the gimmicky side. I loved the steak frites but it wasn't show stopping. Go for the vibes, a drink, and some bread & butter. You can find better food in the city.
google avatar

Paula R.

Yelp
The food was incredible. Our table had the tuna tartare and endive salad to start. I had the sole with a side of mushrooms for my entree. The sole was cooked perfectly. For desert our table split a tarts tartan and cognac ice cream. The cocktails were great too. The restaurant has three rooms that openly flow. It is on the loud side but fortunately we were sitting in the quieter of the rooms. I would absolutely go back again.

Allie W.

Yelp
3.5 stars, nothing bad just okay and not very memorable. I was staying at the hotel (which was incredible btw) and because of the pouring rain we ate lunch at the restaurant. I got the facon Niçoise salad and the frites. I think the lunch menu should be less brunchy - almost every dish involved eggs. But this is not a bad option, would have never gone here if it wasn't for the hotel though.

Yelp
Came in for drinks and some snacks with my friend and her boyfriend. Chick who bartends was absolutely amazing and friendly. Steak frute was delicious, oysters were very good and their beer and other drinks were very very tasty.

Yelp
This place is ick, the post-reno environs are dark and dank, they tend to rush you because there is often a wait. The restaurant is obviously resting on its laurels because the F&B menu leaves much to be desired. The drinks were weak and sloppy. Their version of the French 75 makes use of VERY cheap bubbly. The 'Tarot Garden' (cognac, grand marnier, cherry, lemon) was really disgusting, the fruit had a taste of rot. Steak frites was pitifully TINY and had a strange odor bordering on rancid. I was gagging and had diarrhea. NOT RECOMMENDED.
google avatar

Sheena T.

Yelp
I would have given Cate Chelsea a five star review but the steak frites fell short of my expectations in addition to the waitress collecting our plates that still had some food in them. I understand the concept of NYC waitresses bussing tables left and right, but I wish I could've finished my plate before it was taken away, as eating out is quite expensive ;( The general a manger/owner of the restaurant, however, deserves a solid 5 star. He remembered it was our anniversary and came by personally to give a little something special and a warm verbal greeting. Definitely recommend coming here for the ravioli, croquettes, and the chocolate soufflé. These dishes were executed perfectly and perfectly flavored, cooked, and seasoned. Very nice restaurant with great French vibes located inside Hotel Chelsea. A spot I'd definitely return!

Yelp
When my friend suggested we meet for dinner at Cafe Chelsea, I was thrilled, because I had been dying to try the hot, trendy spot. I had been to the swanky Lobby Bar at the Hotel Chelsea, but had yet to check out its restaurant scene. Well, the place was just as cool as the rest of the building. It had the same historic feel, but with an atmosphere of exclusivity. In fact, celebrity chef, Michael Symon, happened to be enjoying his meal only a few tables away from us, so I knew I was in for a delicious experience. Also, most of the patrons seemed more like locals in the know than hotel guests from out of town. I ordered the Ginger Hubert cocktail to start. The sweet and herbaceous drink was a blend of several familiar items and others that were less known - tequila, French lager, Amer dit Picon (bitters, according to Google), ginger, and cassis. I was thrilled that the restaurant still offered a bread basket, something I find a sad rarity nowadays. The thickly-sliced artisan loaf had a flaky, crunchy crust and a fluffy interior. For appetizers, we tried the Panisse, or chickpea fries, that were shaped like cubes and seasoned with rosemary and garlic. These bites were like soft croutons, and they were simply perfect! We also shared the signature Ravioles du Dauphiné, an assembled sheet of comté cheese-filled ravioli in a white wine and butter sauce. I am not usually one for creamier sauces, but that one was delicious! The tender pasta had also been cooked perfectly. Lastly, for my entree, I opted for the roasted Salmon, which was served over a warm stew of French green lentils, mirepoix, and red wine jus. The lentils and broth were so earthy and comforting. The fish filet might have been on the smaller side, but it packed a ton of flavor. In addition to the great food, the service was similarly terrific! Everyone was friendly and welcoming, while also being refined and professional. I had expected to like Cafe Chelsea, but I did not plan to LOVE Cafe Chelsea. But, truly, every aspect of my experience at the beautiful French bistro was stellar!
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
Food 4/10 The salad was quite good, but the three pieces of tuna do not warrant a supplement of $9 that was actually crazy to see the meager amount of protein they put on my bowl. Very much a place where you go not for the food but for the aesthetics. Extremely mediocre as a result of this stinginess I'm very disappointed. Atmosphere 7/10 Very embroidered and decorative classic interior, old Americana aesthetic. Tables are way too close to each other, I could barely squeeze out of my spot. Service 7/10 Dccent service, nothing outstanding though.

Yelp
Beautiful breakfast spot... I love the Chelsea Hotel and this is a great way to enjoy your morning as a guest or just passing through.

Yelp
Came here for a business dinner and would definitely come back! Started with a few apps; the fries, ravioli, and croquettes, paired with a few cocktails. The raviolis were superb and melted in your mouth! Don't miss those. Fries and croquettes were also very good, but the ravioli was definitely the star. The dirty martinis were also perfect. For entrees, I got the black bass which was cooked wonderfully. Very flaky, moist and packed with flavor. My coworkers got the steaks frites and were extremely happy, steak was also flavorful, juicy and cooked a perfect medium rare. The lemon spaghetti was also a crowd pleaser. Overall, a good experience. Service was attentive. Vibes were good. Food was yummy.

Yelp
This was one of the best all around meals I have had in NYC in a while. The food and the service were absolutely fantastic. All the dishes we got were the perfect size and so beyond delicious. The wait staff were so attentive and friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is terrific and the interior is stunning. The ravioli is definitely worth the hype and same with the chocolate soufflé. Definitely will be coming back here soon!!

Yelp
The Hotel Chelsea is supposedly very haunted. That shouldn't stop you from making a reservation to have some eye catching and mouth watering foods! Every single thing we ate was delicious. From the delightful small plates, including wonderful steak tartare, to the amazing ravioli. The burger is a slam dunk. Finally, do yourself a favor and order the chocolate soufflé! The restaurant itself is gorgeous, historic, and worth the pricey visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot, beautiful to just sit at the bar for a drink or sit down dinner. Everyone seemed to have a burger which I didn't order but I will definitely be back to try . The service was outstanding, from the beginning to the end. Everyone was helpful, attentive and kind. There was always someone around which I appreciate. We ordered the artichoke, the beef tartare, the ravioli and the soufflé. The artichoke was massive, very meaty and the sauce was delicious!' Def a good idea if you're looking for a lighter option. The beef tartare was good, it needed in my option a little more mustard and chill time, but non the less delicious. And the ravioli --- O M GGGG. Delicious Delicious delicious. I came in with no expectations and it was amazing. The soufflé was big; took about 20'min maybe a little less and was delicious. Not over bearing and not too sweet, perfect with an after dinner drink. Highly recommend. Cannot wait to go back!
google avatar

Leah O.

Yelp
Went for the ravioli obviously and it was fantastic! Absolutely delicious. But overall, portions are pretty small and expensive. It's a delicious spot if you have the money to dish out, but it's not how I prefer to dine out myself. The service itself was 10/10 - very kind and attentive. And the restaurant was very cool, way bigger than I expected. Make a resy if you want to go! It's a very busy spot.

Yelp
@lydieats Hype does not live up and the vibes barely make up for the painfully average food. Feels cozy, vintage, and mysterious at the same time. Starting with the good - the chocolate soufflé! Super rich and fluffy with some hints of booze. The slight bitter undertone add balance to each bite. Takes a while to prep so order in advance! Endives are solid ‍ I've had better but also worse. I think the fruit, cheese, and nut trio is rly the textbook complement to endives, hard to go wrong. The biggest disappointment is the raviole. I didn't expect much but still, I was let down. Literally tastes like flour and oil. But like you can't not get it?? A lose-lose situation Soufflé ?

Yelp
An amazing cafe! We live right the corner and have been waiting to come here. The food and drinks are incredible. The vibes are also so cozy and so fall-like we loved it. I would HIGHLY recommend the Niçoise salad. I've never had one like this and it truly blew me away. You can also walk in most weekdays so if you're in the area drop by.

Yelp
Food is 5/5. I came back to try the ravioli & the souffle! I'd definitely recommend the half chicken! Service 4/5. This place gets pretty busy any day of the week, so i'd make a reservation unless you wanna be on a 45-90 min waitlist. Ambiance, super cute date vibes. The tables are rather tiny

Yelp
I've been seeing this place allllll over my tiktok feed and since I am very easily influenced when it comes to food, I had to come check it out. Ngl it's definitely overhyped but it's still a decent place to eat. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous, all old school charm. It was pretty packed when I went and warning, it can get pretty loud. Service was great, 5/5, staff were very attentive. The starter sourdough was great-- springy on the inside, good crunch on the crust, no complaints. Wasn't a fan of the tapenade though. I'm still not quite sure what to think of the viral ravioli. Like it was very heavy on the butter and flavor-wise nothing special but weirdly addicting all the same? Lemon pasta was alright; plenty of lemon flavor although I found it a touch too acidic for my tastes. Wish it came with shrimp; I think adding seafood to it would've improved it. My favorite savory dish was the maitake, decent char flavor and the sauce was simply delish. Of course I had to get the chocolate soufflé which was so light and airy, def one of the highlights of the meal. Was so full by that point but no way was I letting that go to waste.

Yelp
A bit overhyped, not great but not terrible. Ambiance is very old school, French vibes. In terms of food, standouts were the chocolate soufflé, tuna crudo and steak frites (but as someone already said, how can you mess up steak frites?). Disappointments were ravioles, croquettes, endive salad, all which were a bit too cheesy, heavy and salty for my liking.

Yelp
Lunch is open & it's bring your own bread & brunch food if that's what you seek you're in luck, otherwise the lunch options are limited & there's no bread service a major flaw. Drank & ate: Loire Facon Nicoise Avocado Total: $45 before tip Gutted without bread!!!! Salad is a favorite but even though the crowds are here & I will pass at lunch unless menu is revised.

Yelp
We dined at the iconic located within the historic Chelsea Hotel. The decor is stunning: old-world charm with pops of fresh greenery! We ordered: Croque Madame: A timeless brunch classic, this dish did not disappoint. Perfect and oh-so delicious! Le Flaneur: This drink was a slay A unique blend of gin, sauternes wine, pear, and pastis, it was an explosion of flavor. Steak Avec OEuf à Cheval: This was the ultimate breakfast Tender hangar steak drizzled with a decadent sauce foyot, paired with scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, and toast. Despite their bustling crowd, the service was incredibly prompt and attentive. Cafe Chelsea was a fab experience!!

Yelp
My friends and I dined at Cafe Chelsea about three weeks ago. We ordered the ravioli, broccoli rabe, burger, and chocolate soufflé. To our dismay, all but the burger, including the fries, arrived cold. The burger was simple, but tasty. Everything since it was cold, was mediocre, and not very appealing. We spoke up and the staff was so kind, comping the cold items, along with giving us two complimentary desserts. Im not sure I would return, given the quality of the food and the prices are on the higher side, but I appreciate the kindness of the staff.

Yelp
Came here with my team from work and honestly had higher expectations. We first went to the bar of the hotel for a drink, it was super cute and reminded us of the Yale club or another nice lounge. We got a bunch of different drinks which were all okay, my martini was so incredibly strong that I couldn't finish it, but I guess bang for your buck! (It was $30) The famous ravioli was good but the portion was tiny and I thought it was a bit too thin, I liked how al dente it was though. We shared the endive salad (refreshing and tangy), shrimp cocktail (nothing special), croquets (great flavor of goat cheese) and fries (the best thing I had probably). My friend and I shared the halibut (the texture was weird and flavor was way too fishy, the potatoes on the side were fine but because it got on the sauce we also didn't like it), and the half sole (better but really lemony). My other coworkers said the burger was good. We also got the soufflé which was sooo chocolatey and warm, and the ice cream came separate but was delicious and went well with the soufflé. Then we added on an almond pear tart, it was way softer than I thought it'd be and I liked how it wasn't too sweet but I probably wouldn't order it again.

Yelp
Obviously impeccable vibes. Perfect cozy place for weekend brunch but definitely make a reservation! Everything was delicious but the best thing I've tasted was the French toast stuffed with marscapone and served with cognac maple syrup. Order that!!

Yelp
I was super excited to finally score a reservation at Cafe Chelsea! We sat on the patio which was perfect for a warm NYC day, although the inside was beautifully decorated as well. We started with some wine which was refreshing and then shared the ravioli and the chilled artichoke. Both were delicious, but the ravioli was the true show stopper. For our mains we ordered the steak frites and the loup de mer. My steak wasn't super hot when it was brought out to me, but I was so hungry I didn't want to send it back and wait for another. It wasn't anything mind blowing, but the herb butter did elevate the dish well. The loup de mer was just alright. We felt it lacked a bit of flavor and needed more of a sauce or something. All in all, not a bad experience here by any means, but I do think it is a bit overhyped based on how difficult it is to score a reservation.
