The 10 Best Restaurants Near Denali National Park, Alaska - Eater

"Laura Cole, the two-time James Beard-nominated chef who helms this log cabin eatery, does something most other restaurants in Alaska can’t. She prepares a nightly menu that consists of nearly all locally grown, harvested, or foraged ingredients. The menu constantly changes, depending on what is available, and might include dishes like reindeer liver pate with lingonberry shrub or Alaskan octopus with squid ink noodles, tomatoes, flat-leaf parsley, smoked ham broth, fresh watercress, and jalapenos. It’s a popular spot, so book in advance (though, if you forget, the bar seats are first-come, first-served)." - Bailey Berg

"There’s got to be something wrong with the judges of the James Beard Awards. They keep getting the chance to give the top nod to 229 Parks’ chef, Laura Cole (she’s been nominated for BestChef: Northwest twice), but they haven’t done it yet. Here’s your warning to get in there before they wise up and it becomes even harder to snag a reservation (definitely make a reservation). The restaurant sits just 11 miles south of Denali National Park, where there are loads of cabins and other touristy this and that in the area. There’s no reason why a restaurant this damn good should be exactly where this damn good restaurant sits. But chef Cole’s husband built it for her (with the help of a lot of friends) so she could have the kitchen of her dreams in the state he grew up in. It’s quite the Alaska love story. And though Cole grew up near Chicago , she is now one of the most devoted Alaskans around. And her food? Day-um!"

We loved our evening at 229 Parks. The service was welcoming and gracious and the food was excellent. This place is such an amazing treat, located near Denali National Park, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Everything about our meal was extra special and filled with delight.

Very classy establishment. And James Beard award winning food. Takes some time in between courses but you’re made aware of that up front. I dug the Beef Tenderloin and Key Lime Tart. Great wine selection; I opted for Cab.

Very difficult to get reservations here. Need to call two weeks in advance! They were quite kind to work us in given everyone is staff limited. Food was outstanding. Nice find for this remote spot. Lots of vegetarian choices that are quite good. Desserts are fantastic! And cool connection to our hometown of Huntsville, AL. Chef at 1892 has worked here.

The food, service and ambience at 229 Parks were all wonderful. I’d say the king crab ravioli was the most memorable dish of the night. Snag a reservation when you can so you don’t miss out on this place!

Absolutely loved it! Terrific menu using local foods. Hard to believe such a great place does it so perfect, way out in the middle of nowhere. Meant for the tourists in Denali, too far for locals, but if you can make it there, worth it.

One of the best restaurants in Alaska. Excellent food. Pretty surroundings. Warm and helpful staff. The bouillabaisse was delicious. Would have gone back a second night if it was open.

Best place in Denali. The crab app was a little small but delicious.
