Rooftop garden lounge with city views, live music & global bites

"If the sun’s out, and you’re in Murray Hill, and there’s nothing remotely urgent you have to do, you should probably just get a drink here. If you come during the daytime, you might even be able to avoid the crowds (unless it’s a weekend), and they also serve some food. Plus, the roof looks great (with little wooden stools and brick arches), and it’s hands-down one of the least-worst places to drink in the area." - bryan kim, matt tervooren
"If you haven’t already been to 230 Fifth Rooftop, you’ve probably seen photos of this place. It’s got one of the best views of the Empire State Building anywhere in the city, which means that tourists and native New Yorkers flock here all year-round. This huge outdoor spot in Midtown has a bunch of private igloos that you can book for up to 10 people, plus they welcome walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis. Like every great rooftop, 230 Fifth also offers brunch service from 12-4pm on weekends. For more information on reservations and pricing, head to the restaurant’s website." - nikko duren
"A rooftop near Grand Central is like a burger on an otherwise all-vegetarian menu - it’s going to get attention regardless of how good it actually is. But the bar on top of the Pod 39 Hotel isn’t just packed because it’s one of the only outdoor spots in the area. We’d like this place regardless of convenience - the big space is decorated with brick archways with great views of the city, and they serve a bunch of different and enjoyable tequila cocktails. To beat the crowds, you may have to leave work around lunchtime." - matt tervooren

"I went to the sceney Midtown rooftop bar 230 Fifth for a free viewing party that started at 7 p.m.; seating was first come, first served and viewers were advised to take the back set of elevators." - Carla Vianna
