My husband and I went to Austin for a small getaway to celebrate our 5th year anniversary and we have already eaten at several restaurants that had good ratings on Yelp, but my husband was NOT impressed by any of them.
Anyway, we just finished exploring Pioneer Farms. We were tired from the walk and extreme heat so we wanted something light and healthy. As we were driving, I was looking on Yelp and made an impulse decision to go here and I made it at the right time because we were approaching the exit!
The name, logo, location, and interior design doesn't seem like it would match the great reviews this place has received. The restaurant has a cafeteria/food court type vibe. I was thinking - oh great, my husband probably won't like this place either. HOWEVER, we both LOVED this place!
We typically NEVER order salads at restaurants because we just feel like they're overpriced and simple, but we were in love with our selections. He had the blackened salmon salad and I had the chipotle shrimp salad. They were both huge in portions and the presentation was beautiful. They are definitely consistent with their portions from when they first opened (looking at old pictures - I hate it when restaurants change their portions over time). The ingredients were FRESH - nothing looked wilted and the avocados were literally perfect. The price was worth it to us because there were a lot of ingredients in the salad, instead of just lettuce and a few carrots and cabbages thrown in there. We loved that the meal was light and refreshing, but we also felt full afterwards.
We were also happy with the kids meal. We got our son a quesadilla, Capri sun, and fruits. The fruits were delicious and very fresh. I was impressed because usually we would just get a banana or apple slices with kid's meals.
All in all, we were very happy that we stopped here. The menu looks fantastic because there is something for everyone! If you want to eat healthy, you have options and if you're looking for something more heavy, you also have plenty of options.
The employees were also super nice and the service was fast! You definitely have to try this place. Next time you think of eating at Jason's Deli or Subway, just give this place a try instead. You will be thoroughly impressed and best of all, you will be supporting a local business! (:
PS. My husband loved the salmon salad so much that he requested that I try to make him the exact salad for lunch every day.
