As a die-hard burger enthusiast, I had been wanting to visit 317 Burger in Broad Ripple for quite some time. Well, this past weekend, after enjoying some pampering at a local nail salon I was finally able to visit. It was an exceptionally mild day with a nice breeze and the threat of rain, so I looked forward to enjoying their outdoor patio.
When we walked in were we greeted warmly by the hostess, however the smell inside was actually quite off-putting. I'm not sure what it was, but in that moment I was GRATEFUL for the outdoor seating option. After requesting a table outside, the hostess chose a table and went to clear it and wipe it down for us. When we were seated, the table was soaking wet, so I asked for a dry towel. She returned with napkins and wiped it dry for us. That's when I noticed that the spacing between the slats of the table were full of trash, lint and dirt. I get that it's an outdoor seating area, but if we're going to be eating there, it should be kept clean. I did my best to ignore it.
Our server was energetic, knowledgeable and upbeat. He had great energy which fostered good vibes! I went out on a limb and ordered my first ever turkey burger. The description had me intrigued; Nap Town Turkey - turkey patty, bacon, swiss cheese, pineapple (I got that on the side, but think it would've been good on it too), jalapeno and mustard-based bbq sauce. I just knew it would be an explosion of flavor. They did not disappoint. I also got a side of Kung Pao Brussels, which were also amazing. They came slightly charred with a delicious sauce.
My daughter ordered the crispy chicken tenders and truffle parmesan fries. We knew immediately that to-go boxes would be needed. They do not skimp on the serving size. Love, love, love the truffle parmesan fries and garlic aioli. (Just thinking about them makes my mouth water!) They were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside.
My boyfriend got the Diner Burger with two, thin patties (smash-burger style) and he ate his so fast that I blinked and missed it, so it must've been very good. LOL I was taking photos and he was smashing his smash-burger! He ordered a shot of cognac afterward. We were told that they had Hennessy and Grand Marnier. He ordered Hennessy, but thinks that he was mistakenly served the latter. He'd already poured the majority of the shot into his O.J., so we didn't bother complaining.
I would've given them 5 out of 5, but the smell and the dirty tables couldn't be ignored. I can tell that this is a neighborhood hang-out. They're pet-friendly and young, "hipsters" were there with friends enjoying libations. I'm not sure I'd eat-in again, but I'd definitely order take-out.
