"In the past, we’ve used Midtown’s Sake Bar Hagi 46 as a meeting place for friends and family members before seeing a show. Between the records on the wall, the price range for sake (which starts at $8) and the ebi shumai that’s perfect for snacking, Sake Bar Hagi works well for any casual drinking situation. They also have a bunch of shochu - made from sweet potatoes, sugarcane, or barley - and plum wine to try as well." - Hannah Albertine
"UCB West is now in Hell’s Kitchen. Which is fine, because so are a lot of restaurants (and crossfit gyms, if you’re into that kind of thing). Sake Bar Hagi 46 is a great place for a casual meal with a couple friends you convinced to come see a show. Between the records on the wall and the Japanese fried chicken and $11 noodle dishes, they’ll probably like it here - even if they absolutely hate the night of musical parodies of The Social Network and Forrest Gump you all paid $9 to see." - Hannah Albertine
"Sake Bar Hagi doesn’t really look like much from the outside, but walk inside and you’ll find a long room with hanging light bulbs, records on the walls, and a bunch of small tables. It’s a great place for a casual meal with a couple of friends before a show, and the menu is surprisingly huge - you can get everything from sashimi and yakitori to french fries and ramen. There’s also a wide variety of sake to choose from, although you shouldn’t have too much of that if you don’t want to fall asleep 10 minutes into The Crucible." - Bryan Kim
