The Best Montreal Microbreweries and Craft Beer Bars | Eater Montreal

"Pointe-St-Charles’ first microbrewery arrived in 2018 from a group of accomplished home brewers looking for a career change. Expect an eclectic set of beers from an English ale to apricot-tea pale ale or cappuccino stout to the patriotic Montreal State of Mind NEIPA in an industrial setting with a great canal-facing terrasse. There’s no kitchen but you can bring your own food or order in. The bottle shop is also worth a visit as they sometimes have discounted four-packs." - Eater Staff

Google
We came across this place while looking for a pub showing the Habs playoff game, and it was a total win! They had the game on a big projector with (French) commentary, and the atmosphere was amazing - lots of fans in jerseys and caps, really lively crowd. The food was tasty, the beer was great, and even the toilets were clean. I really enjoyed the vibe and would love to come back one day!

Google
A great brewery to visit in this area of Montreal. The beer selection was good, and the food was well-made as well. The lineup to purchase drinks and food can be intimidating, but the staff work through it quickly enough.

A Must-Visit Gem in the West Island! We've been to 4 Origins Brewery several times now, and it never disappoints! The food is consistently delicious, as are their beers and drinks. Standout menu items include the artichoke and goat cheese pizza with its incredible sourdough crust, and the warm olives served with homemade focaccia — both absolute must-tries. Also try the Paloma Spritz cocktail! It's amazing! The open-concept kitchen adds to the cool, laid-back vibe, and if you come on a Saturday, you’ll be treated to live music, making it an even more special experience. It's such a great way to support a local microbrewery/brewpub. A word of advice: make a reservation — this place gets busy for a reason! Hands down, my favourite spot on the West Island. 🍻🍕🎶

Excellent selection for flights. My favourite was the pale ale. Vibe is cool especially spring day. Keg tables and high chairs or picnic tables. Delicious beers and decent poutine.

Google
4 Origines made top list of my breweries. Great beer selection and quality. Each brew had its own character and flavor. Of you can’t find a beer here you like then you don’t like beer! Superb welcoming environment and really enjoyed the camaraderie with Yan. He was very friendly and helpful to explain the beers. Hope to come back next time in Montreal.

We love burgers and we love creatively microbrewed beer. Our new friends had both and we had a great time. Every level of this place aligns with who we are. Video games, great smash burgers, even better creative craft beers, a lively atmosphere, a down-to-earth, no-nonsense, honest approach to their product are a perfect recipe for success. We showed up relatively early for a Saturday, but it soon filled up with a large crowd of apparently loyal patrons. I ended up trying all 16 beers currently on the menu, and while all of their expertly crafted, unique mix of ingredients were excellent, my favourites were: - Montreal State of Mind (NEIPA), the strongest of the list and suggested to us by our server Greta, was a delight to enjoy. - Grisette à l'Argousier, a lighter, slightly smoky yet fruity and tart drink. - Saison des Cônes, I'll be honest, this was one of the last ones I tried, and everything was getting pretty hazy. I only wrote the name of it to remember later, but I'm sure it was great if I noted it 😅. Love the play on words, though. They're about to change their menu, adding new beers for fall, so we will definitely have to return for that and for the quiz nights.

Google
Self-service for small party. Delicious food from food track. French fries and burgers were the best. Chicken wings had to eat without skin. They open at 12pm for beer but food gets ready around 4pm. Good atmosphere for everyone including dogs and kids. 4 gaming machines and table games available. Outdoor street parking.

Google
Great brewery with an excellent selection of beers. The IPA, cream ale and the stout were delicious. Ambiance is great. They have a few arcade games as well. Lot is seating inside and small patio outside. Staff is knowledgeable.

Yelp
My wife and I wanted to try a local brewery while in Montreal as they have a great scene. I saw this was easily accessible by bus between Old Montreal and Centre Bell with time to be spend before the Canadiens game so we went here. The staff were very friendly and the beer was amazing. There is plenty of seating inside and we got to sit at the bar where we got to enjoy three wonderful flights of beer.

Yelp
Awesome vibes! Variety of beers to try! Like the art work in the brewery! Dog friendly. Food truck- poutine and pretzels. Our first poutine with cheese curds and beer gravy! Yum! Indoor and outdoor seating! Outdoor seating available in the shade or out in the sun. Restrooms on site! Volleyball park across the street. Street parking! Cheers! Highly recommend!

Yelp
A hidden gem of breweries in Montreal. This place has good vibes and there's a decent selection of beers to choose from. We ordered sausage on a bun with a poutine from the food truck and paired it with a flight of beers to try out as it was our first time here. The beers had a good selection but the Serie Lager (Lukr) was my favourite out of the six we tried. Overall, everyone was very friendly and were able to give us recommendations of the beers available. I would come back again if I'm in Montreal and stop by Costco since it's close by as well.

Yelp
Quite a great brewery along the river! Recommend taking a stroll along the park before getting your drinks here. There is also a food truck with decent food, and poutine.

Yelp
AVERAGE MICROBREWERY WITH GREAT SERVICES! We had a few beer flights and let's say the quality is average. Comparing with a few other microbrewery we went in Montreal, their beer lacks a bit of characters. I would have rated it at 2.5 stars, and the extra 0.5 star is a result of their great customer services

Yelp
My friend invited me to join him at 4 Origines and it did not disappoint. It reminded me a lot of Night Shift Brewing in Everett, MA in its location in an industrial area. To get there from downtown is a snap though - there is a cool bike path along the canal that makes for a lovely evening stroll or ride. Their beer is diverse with lots of IPA, hose, collaborations. I tried a few and enjoyed them, as a NE beer snob I was impressed! The service was great, very welcoming. Overall I highly recommend making the effort to stop by 4 Origines.

Yelp
We went here on the night after St Patrick's day and there was a Celtic band (guitar and fiddler) playing much to my surprise. We asked for seating away from the band because the space, though big is quiet noisy. Once seated at the back of the room, we enjoyed the entertainment and the food! I didn't realize what a family-friendly place this would be, because most places that serve alcohol are 18+. As expected, staff was accommodating, helpful and friendly. It was our first time so our waiter explained a lot of things and made good suggestions. Food was good, not cheap, but the price reflected the quality ingredients and expertise in the kitchen. I like that there was real variety on the menu: pub favorites like fish and chips, but also a good selection of salads. All in all a good experience and we look forward to going back when the patio is open and bringing our dog.

Yelp
Great beer, I especially liked the various gose beers (goses?) they had to chose from. There is no food, but places like this is why Uber eats exists.

Yelp
Spacious brewpub near the water with an open air setup and lots of table space to enjoy beers with a large group. Saturday afternoon settled in at a long table and sampled a few of their draughts. Beers range between $3-8 depending on size and style. Really like the "Ironworks" Golden Ale - a surprisingly hoppy ale with a crisp finish. Also tried the "Impasse" - a self described candy IPA that has an odd peach flavor. Aside from the brews, there are snacks for sale as well as games to play to the side. Liked the environment here, and never felt too crowded despite all the people inside. Definitely one of the better breweries in the area.

Yelp
Now we're talking! The beer is outstanding and they are dog friendly. I didn't bring my goldens today but they will be regulars at this craft brewery. It's a warehouse converted to a brewery/tasting room. Concrete floors, picnic tables, a low definition projection TV, and a nice collection of board games. They have rap music in the background, not my style but sets a cool vibe. What a great and LARGE selection of beers! Everything from Blanc to IPA's (many types), sours, and a great stout. If you love beer you are sure to find something of interest. I had a flight with an apricot IPA, a double IPA, a high octane Belgium and a coffee stout. Wow, they were all fantastic! They have a very limited selection of food but have a few local eateries on speed dial for a quick delivery. Plenty of parking and a cool outdoor patio are available. As I mentioned earlier, it's dog friendly so if you're not into furry friends running around (or kids for that matter) this might not be for you. As for me, I love this kind of family oriented brewery experience and will be a regular here.

Yelp
Awesome new brew pub near by Lachine Canal! Accessible by bike and easy to park if you choose to drive. The beers are delicious, very impressed with the Apriknot and the seasonal sour brew with basil and strawberries. Before picking our favourites we had a tasting board of four beers. There is no food on site, but you can order from near by restos or bring your own snack. We did not see a food truck that day although we understand food trucks are visiting regularly. My personal plans for the future involve take away hot dog from the near by Costco and cold beer at 4 Origines. The tap room is basically a hangar converted in cosy space to get together with friends. The pub has a terrace that welcomes kids and pets. On the day of our visit we got to see a world-cup game on a big screen. Best of everything you can buy bottled beer on site or fill in a growler with your preferred brew. Last but not least I love the logo of the 4 Origines! Well done!

Yelp
Ok. So honestly had never heard of this place til last week. So glad I did!!!! 4 Origines is a hidden gem. The crafted beer is amazing. On summer days there is a patio available for seating once this isn't at 6 feet apart. Believe there are a few tables inside but I actually ran in &.out. So wasn't as observant as I normally would be. The beer vats were visible as was the multitude (& I do mean multitude) of taps. 4 Origines may be a little out of the way -but definitely worth the trip & taste.

Yelp
Another gem in the neighborhood! Fantastic place to grab local beer and fun space to be with your favorite people. This surprisingly includes children!!! It's so rare to find an alcohol serving establishment that recognizes it's patrons might actually have children. Not only is there cute little kid size furniture but there is actually a changing table in the handicap bathroom!!! I had to do a double take because it was a full on changing table, not just your standard changing table you find in a public restroom. My heart melted. Bless you! I also spied a highchair. I mean seriously.... I don't think this place would exist in LA. Maybe it's different now, but I recalled many years ago, pre-kids of my own, getting the stink eye from some a-hole hipster for bringing my very young nieces to a munched talked about sausage/hot dog restaurant in downtown LA. Luckily, Mr. Hipster had friends who were NOT a-holes and schooled him before I had to. Even if it were a bar, what is it with American Puritanism when it comes to kids in bars. I remember going to a pub in New Zealand and the host asked me if I needed a high chair without batting an eye. I nearly fainted from shock out of the respect parents get. It's not an easy job. We need and deserve a good drink once in a while. Ok, done with my social commentary. You will definitely get a good drink here. We had two flights so we could sample as many as we can to figure out which is our favorite. It was a tough decision because there were several favorites. I actually really enjoyed the stout. It wasn't as heavy as most stouts. So happy to find this place. Just across the canal from us in an industrial area. Easy to get to. Seems to have plenty of parking. But if you've had a few too many, you can walk it off along the canal.

Yelp
This is a tough review for me to write... On the one hand, this place is very mediocre compared to many of the brewery tasting rooms I have visited. On the other, it provided the best beer I have ever had in Montreal. If I put aside the fact I am visiting from Northern California and am fortunate enough to live a short distance from many of the best breweries (Russian River, Alvarado Street) and just compare this place to the other beer experiences I have had in Montreal it is five stars. However, I gave it four because it has growing to do. The beers could be more flavorful, adventurous and unique. The vibe was perfect. Exactly what I want in a brewery. Played a game with my kids while enjoying my tasting flight. This place is young and I cannot wait to come back in a few years. I Predict it will lead the beer scene here and I will likely add the fifth star then, but there is still some improvement needed.

Yelp
Nice place. Discovered them at a Yelp event. Loved their coffee stout. Pleasant staff and attractive deco. A little out of the way but worth the detour.

Yelp
Simply a great place for a beer! This microbrewery, located in an older industrial building is spacious, ALLOWS DOGS, has a beautiful but a bit too small terrace in the summer, plays football on Sunday, has game nights and is just all around a fun place. Decor at atmosphere may be a bit minimalist but I feel like that's what I go to a tap room for, a straight forward good beer, no frills. They're collection of snack food keeps growing + they let you order food to their location so it's easy to stay for hours with friends/family. They've got a beer for everyone with stouts, sours, IPAs, Ales, etc on 12 taps that vary based on availability. Whether you're going for a pint (or smaller for some), grabbing some cans for a party or a growler to go, they've got you covered. These guys also have a good sense of humour making a peach IPA called Impasse as a tribute to Montreal traffic cones! Personal favourites are the classic Ironworks Ale, the Botanik Botanical White (made with Cirka Distillery), and the Steep of Faith raspberry tea infused. Plus it doesn't matter which bartender I've gotten, they're all incredibly nice, fast, efficient (even when crazy busy) and always available to explain the flavours of the new beers.

Yelp
Let's face it..is anyone as excited as me when someone opens a brewery near them? Ok. Maybe... But these 4 boys gripped the golden Ring to open up in the Pointe! Nothing like the old hood..great people..relaxed atmosphere..easy bussing access(or cycle) in a " not quite downtown but close" .. I love their clean branding. I love. LOVE their Côte Canal...it will be your summer fave. Session and hoppy enough to keep "inner stern IPA snoots" happy. Very clean and fresh. Keegan was sweet enough to tell their story. Go see him. Drink their beer. Bring some home...even on your bike #beergirl

Yelp
Super great vibe in thos place! Its spacious, clean, relaxed, dog and baby friendly! All around a welcoming and fun environment for all. They brew their own beer on site and have an unbelievable wealth of knowledge about beer and the crafting process. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Yelp
Visually, the place is perfect. Add in that they have board games, beer, a food truck AND you can bring your own noms, I was sold! Their in-house food truck changes week to week and their beer offering can appease all palates. Nice to support local business, especially young up'n'comers.

Yelp
Such a delightful brewery. The patio is dog friendly and drinks are excellent. It was a little rainy but no issues since there are some covered patio spots. Lots of parking across the street and a great walking trail is right across the street as well!

Yelp
Awesome place for beer and chilling. Affordable and good selection. The addition of board games makes it even better.

Yelp
Fantastic brewery!! Every single beer was crafted to perfection and somehow the service was even better. If you visit during the fall or winter time and are in search of the perfect pumpkin beer, search no further. Knightmare rivals nearly every pumpkin beer I've tried (and I've tried more than I care to share). For a brewery that is still in its infancy (6 months old!) it is incredibly promising. I simply hope they have plans to ship to the US in the future. Please don't leave Montreal without visiting!

Yelp
We had such a great time! The beer was delicious and they are dog friendly (inside the building)! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
We visited this brewery in June when we stayed at an apartment that happened to be 0.2 miles away. Like most good breweries, it is in an industrial area without its own food. We saw many patrons ordering take-out that was delivered. The tap-room has huge tall ceilings and modern décor. We sat outside and both enjoyed a fresh-brewed beer. Most of the beers were in the 4-5% alcohol range. My 11 year old daughter was happy to pick a drink from a cooler. If I lived in Montreal, I would definitely hang out here. There are tons of games (lots of jenga going on), seating, and happy customers. We happened to be there on a comedy evening. The show was bilingual and since my daughter was the only kid left in the place, we left after a French-speaking comedian finished. The brewery is kid-friendly but the comedy show was for adults.

Yelp
I love trying out new places to drink, so I was happy this place opened not too far from me. I tried the small versions of every single beer they had on menu and was impressed, not blown away but everything was enjoyable. My favorite was the cappuccino stout, it tasted exactly like a Starbucks cap and not lile a beer at all! It's also bring your own food, and how convenient that they have a food truck in the parking lot! I just wish they had more variety of beer (they only had 5 to choose from on the menu tonight) and it would have gotten a 5 star easy!
