Ordered the beans and tea online. Delivery was great and packaged well. Wow, this is really good coffee. The coffee is the light roast, balanced and not too acidic, just right, excellent flavor. And the chai is really good to, but not made in house, I beleive they have an outside supplier for the tea. Very happy with this find, thanks to The Lost Kitchen for putting the name out there.

Google
We absolutely loved 44 North Coffee! Their iced coffee both regular and decaf were yummy and their pastries were incredible! We highly recommend the cinnamon roll! I can't wait to buy some more of their coffee!

Google
Quant little coffee and pastry shop. There is a small deck in the rear where you may sit outside enjoying your coffee while overlooking a small inlet. The pastries are large and very tasty. Getting there early is the key to having a better selection. They sell out fast! This is where you must go to get good drinks and pastries on Deere Isle. As always, if you enjoyed this review please hit the "Like" button!

Google
I love 44 North Coffee so much and look forward to my morning cup when I visit the island. I didn’t sleep well last night, so I left the house early for something to do. I was parked in front of 44 for about 20 minutes prior to them opening. I was minding my own business, scrolling on TikTok in my truck. When the barista opened the door, they met with me with a disgusted look on their face saying they were “curious as to what I wanted so badly that I sat outside a coffee shop for 20 minutes” they said, throwing their arms in the air “is there something you really want?!”. I felt unwelcome, and embarrassed. And it kinda hurt my feelings. Not the type of interaction I’m used to having at 44 North or anywhere else on the island.

Google
A quaint coffee shop in the heart of Deer Isle, Maine. The staff is super friendly and their service is excellent. The coffee tastes so delicious that I inadvertently became a coffee "snob"! I LOVE both their hot coffee and their iced coffee, especially the Iced Mocha! A MUST STOP place for any coffee drinker.

Google
Great little coffee shop. If you come after 9am, they have pastries delivered from nearby bakeries. Chocolate croissant is amazing!

Google
This is my daily stop before work. Delicious coffee, cold brew & beans on a quiet, scenic street. You can take your coffee out to sit by the water of you like or sit on the bench out front.

Love the coffee here, the comfortable feel of the shop and the friendly staff.

Yelp
The coffee is amazing! The morning pastries were delicious but they do run out quickly. The barista was not particularly helpful or friendly.

Yelp
While I am not the biggest coffee drinker I do like a (strong) cup or two in the morning. And I like to grind my own beans, always making sure they are organic as I've learned that coffee plants are otherwise very heavily sprayed with pesticides. While I've not yet had the pleasure of getting myself to the actual coffee shop in Deer Isle Maine, it's on my list of places to go when we get ourselves back up there. Fortunately 44North sells their coffee online and I can attest that the types I've tried thus far have been delicious. I tried 3 types of beans from them thus far. Somewhat astonishingly, received my order two days later...and even though I don't live too far from Maine, this still seemed like a remarkable turnaround time. The bags were each marked with the roasting date which had occurred the same day I ordered...so these were truly freshly roasted beans. The coffee they sell is all Fair-Trade and organic. 44North partners with Cooperative Coffees which is a coffee importer made up of members who build long-term relationships with producer growers through fair and equitable trading practices. Here is the list of Cooperative Coffees core values found on the 44North website: 1.Always fair 2.Truth and transparency 3.Human connections with a big heart 4.Community through cooperation 5.Passion for the cause What's not to like? It sounds like a win-win for all involved including me, the customer. The coffee comes in bags that have been hand-stamped with info about who roasted the coffee and on what date handwritten on each bag. My order came with a sweet handwritten and signed thank you note too...I am sold. The bags are brown paper and lined in what they say is a "polylactic acid biomass plant-derived material" typically made from corn or sugar beet pulp. This material acts as a barrier to the oils in the beans. But the best thing about this material is that it's not plastic and so the bags can be burned in our woodstove as a firestarter (which I've already done) or recycled. I store my coffee beans in an airtight canister I discovered a while ago made by a company called Airscape. I bought mine on Amazon but noticed that they sell them on the 44North website too. I highly recommend the canisters if you're in the market for a truly airtight container especially for coffee beans but certainly for anything else too...the canisters are stylish and stackable. I grind the coffee beans only as I need them in the morning. I have really enjoyed the coffee made from these beans...so fresh and so delicious. I will happily order from 44North again and honestly, I can't wait to visit in person.

Beth S.

Yelp
I can't wait to visit in person -- but for now, I get my coffee shipped on a subscription basis. This is a cup of pure heaven first thing in the morning -- my favorite roastery by far. Each bag comes with handwritten tasting notes...an extra nice touch. Thank you from California!

Yelp
Delicious, fresh coffee in many different variations. Excellent baked goods from various local bakeries which sell out very quickly.

Yelp
This is the place to stop for a morning kick-start. Quaint she be, kind-of an old west theme, one of few places far in between far, but far pretty far Northeast. The Village, guesstimating 5 structures for commercial and local government of old days gone by. In August/September 2022, there was a definite rebound renaissance transformation happening. 44 North Coffee right in the midst and beautifully time. Beverages fresh and to order and an abundance of devilishly sized baked treats. My wife and I took turns waiting outside with our wide eyed pup, hoping for a treat of her own, while the other Human Pet went inside to survey the grander. Yes, no pets inside or on there back deck over looking the tidal pond. For good reason, seating was limited outside. Good news, to the left side of the 44 North Coffee is the super cute Town Library (that's another pending Review), circa early 1900's. Beside the library, a Town green space with picnic tables where pups are welcomed. With our delicious tall morning roasts and a couple of decadent pastries we absorbing the space, treats, and beautiful morning sunshine. Even Ms. Cookie was given her share of the goodness. We look forward to seeing the 44 North next time and wish all the other Towns upgrades the best.

Yelp
44 North is a great little coffee shop in the tiny village of Deer Isle. The staff is friendly and the pastries are good but their coffee blows me away. Every trip I make to Deer Isle I pick up a few bags of whole beans to bring home with me. The coffee is delicious and it makes me think of sitting on the deck of our rental in the morning and drinking good coffee while watching the harbor porpoises swim by.

Jung Min L.

Yelp
Excellent coffee of all sorts and an assortment of scrumptious pastries. In a quaint cafe with indoor and outdoor setting and friendly service! Love the outdoor seating overlooking the beautiful water! Perfect for a quiet morning coffee!

Leah S.

Yelp
Great Chai and hibiscus teas. coffee didn't taste good to me. pastry from Tinder Hearth is a win.

Howard K.

Yelp
6:30 in the morning on a Saturday and there's literally a line waiting for the doors to open. This is excellent coffee. Pour over only as been mentioned before but worth the wait. Enjoy!

Mary W.

Yelp
44 North coffee is stupendous it is women own and we have met the head roaster. A. S. Also works at Buck's restaurant in Brooksville, Maine. The coffee team on Deer Isle/Stonington, Maine is top notch.

Jenni F.

Yelp
What a fabulous little shop. The coffee was outstanding. Not only were there a lot of blends, but also the knowledgeable staff could help directly you the flavor that suited your taste and mood. I got a cold brew that was outstanding (and they have paper straws!). The baked goods were to die for. From coffee rolls, to scones, muffins, and breads, this place demands that you go there HUNGRY! Best of all was that when we asked the very busy counter staff if there was a beach spot nearby where we could enjoy our coffee, they directed us to the most beautiful, free beach (Sand Beach) and we enjoyed a spectacular morning.

Jack C.

Yelp
All good. Great coffee, friendly people. Nice selection of wines. Tinderhearth bread some days.

Ann P.

Yelp
Women who roast coffee, more of that. A coffee roastery on the Blue Hill Peninsula, even more of that...what a fantastic concept, company and brand. So happy to support these roasters and so happy to score a bag to bring back to Cape Cod. They collaborate with an awesome bakery. Two for the win in Deer Isle. You can score the bags of coffee, all over Maine, apparently even up in Oxford. Good to know when we board up at Sunday River.

Tim C.

Yelp
Really outstanding coffee shop serving pour overs and batch brew along with excellent baked goods and selected bottles, coffee and tinned fish. Expert guidance on types of coffee to match taste and mood, ground and roasted in real time. The couple that asked, "don't you do lattes?" seemed disappointed - they shouldn't have been. This was one of the best cups of coffee I've had in a long time.

Abby P.

Yelp
Such a perfect little coffee shop located in Deer Isle. Not only is the coffee delicious, but the decor is adorable and the employees are incredibly friendly. They have a wide selection of roasts, and I haven't had a bad one yet. I really like how they keep all the beans in the burlap bags right up front - smells delicious and looks inviting. There's also some cute merchandise you can get while you're there, such as t shirts, thermoses, mugs, stickers, etc. I always make sure to buy a bag or two of beans before I drive back home to MD!

Byron R.

Yelp
Except for the mad gaggle of entitled tourons fighting over the last pastries, it's a cool spot.

Summer P.

Yelp
We drove down from Ellsworth yesterday for the first (but not last) time. Very helpful, quick and cute place. Delicious coffee & muffin. Covid precautions - no direct staff interactions. Was great! And for a place in the middle of nowhere, it was hopping despite the cold and quiet day. We walked down with the baby to the public library to enjoy a picnic table as the drove over to Lily Pond to watch folks ice skate and play with the dog. Everyone was friendly and wearing masks. Honestly, the whole trip to Deer Isle was the nicest we've had yet.

Ellis K.

Yelp
Great little spot. Tried their coffee and every single pastry they had that day. They're very knowledgeable about the coffees they carry (where they're from, color roast, flavor profile) and can make recommendations depending on what you're in the mood for. Their pastries were great as well. I'm usually not a person for sweets, but even I admit they were amazing. I got an apple streudel, various scones, a cranberry granola bar, a raspberry and cheese danish, a blackberry danish, and a savory pastry with ham and Asiago cheese. I sampled all of them with my girlfriend and a friend and they were all so good! My favorite was the ham and Asiago pastry, but they were all baked so perfectly. Dough was perfect, soft and not too chewy. Flavors were on point. The fruit pastries were fruity and sweet. Great little coffee shop.

Abigail H.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop! The coffee is amazing. It's so cute inside and the baristas are really nice!

Jessica P.

Yelp
WOW! All the stars and more! Amazing place, amazing vibe, amazing service. I loved the owner, she was so cute and so knowledge; really lead me to have the right coffee for the mood I was in. Her sense of style is incredible. If I lived here, I would be here everyday! I was also amazed that it was strictly coffee! Cold brew, pour over or aero press! So cool. I've never seen that before. Being here was a highlight of my day. Go here!

Scott S.

Yelp
Second best cup(s) of coffee I had in Maine. Rolled up a few times by bike to enjoy their excellent drip Ethiopian blend, picked up a cool t-shirt for a dear friend who's missing Maine this year due to Covid. The folks are friendly, unpretentious, professional, and make coffee that would give the flashy spots where we live in Brooklyn, NY, a run for their money. So good. And the baked goods were awesome. Folks here practicing careful social distancing made us feel safe, and the friendliness made us feel at home. Thank you!

Annie T.

Yelp
No better place in my mind. The sweetest baristas, excellent coffee, women owned. LOVE THEM ALL. The coffee? The best.

Annie R.

Yelp
Best coffee ever. I give this coffee as a gift to everyone I know and they all say it is the best coffee they have ever had. Not to mention the amazing pastries brought in on tuesdays from Tinderhearth. All of the baristas are polite and helpful. I can honestly say I've never seen one without a smile on their face. Keep up the good work!!

Claire B.

Yelp
Coffee was decent enough, but $13 for a pastry?? At a minimum, price should have been marked, as it was for other items, leaving me to assume it was in the same range. No thank you.

Saul G.

Yelp
More Brooklyn than Brooklin, this is an intense little roaster on the second floor of a funky old schoolhouse. Parked outside were an array of vintage vehicles in what appeared to be varying states of decrepitude. The cold brew (if it was that) was one of the more intense and delicious iced coffees I've had. The beans may have been roasted the morning we bought them, they filled our car with their fantastic aromas for days, no matter that we eventually quadruple bagged them. Note to 44 North, invest in some of those bags with one-way valves. I am loving that Uganda, though.

J M.

Yelp
While I do wish this place sold espresso drinks, the coffee was so good that it didn't matter. I poured milk into a freshly brewed cup that turned a beautiful caramel/amber color. I'm guessing this is due to the freshly roasted beans. This place is only open during the summer until Columbus Day. If you're ever in the area, it's worth stopping in for a cup. Pretty drive on the way there...

Murph M.

Yelp
Now this is a great cup of coffee! Bought beans to bring home. Wish they would come to DC!

Chris B.

Yelp
My dear friend sent me 44 North coffee in a sweet Valentine's Day package recently and, although I've tried many, many coffees, I have to say I absolutely love the one she sent me. It's not that I can't get a decent brew where I live. Like most places there are avid coffee afficionados here. I'm a bean-grinder myself and appreciate a fresh, aromatic, robust brew. I don't know which grind she sent but OMG is it yummy! The coffee still smells incredibly potent after a week and still has a great flavor. I've been told two young women got together and started this little biz. Well, Girlfriends, KEEP IT UP! You seem to know what you're doing!

Robin D.

Yelp
I've just moved from Maine, since y husband died and I'm going to stay with my sister in the South for a while... and it has only made my awe at 44's coffee blends grow and grow, alongwith the craving for a cup of house drip. Maine has amazing coffee, period. But 44 North Coffee ups that high bar and breaks through the coffee ceiling! There's no way I'll be able to wait til summer when I go back to Maine for my bags of coffee, I guess I'll just have to go postal. (Also, my love of Mainers gets bigger each day I'm away, but the coffee roasters and staff at 44 are Mainers of perfection, polite without the need to be PC all the time -- not that they say anything off, they just don't walk on egg shells. Mainers get what I'm saying. We talk when we want to, go about our business in silence when we want to, and get into some epic stranger conversations when we feel like it.) Sorry, my Downeast love is at an all time high right now. But that doesn't change this undeniable fact: 44 North Coffee is the best you'll ever taste!

Vanessa H.

Yelp
Thank you for existing, for I needed coffee! We loved it so much my 6 month old now wears a 44 North Coffee. This place isn't cheap, but it is GOOD. We brought home coffee beans and they are fabulous. It is so hard to find coffee that isn't over roasted. Go, sip, spend. This is what supporting your local economy looks (and tastes) like.

Rachael B.

Yelp
A great find for us. Not looking for great coffee in Deer Isle, ME, but there you are 44 North. Up the stairs of a former school house. Really good ice coffee. Bought a pound to take home, haven't yet brewed yet, hope it's good.

Alex P.

Yelp
We spent a week vacationing in the Stonington area, and finding 44 North was a wonderful addition to our week! Fresh roasted coffee (the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe was on tap while we were there), delicious baked goods from a local bakery, and a sweet atmosphere make 44 North a worthy visit.

Yelp
All ORGANIC and Fair Trade coffee roasted in micro batches open year round.
