Store · Hancock County
Nervous Nellie's has to be visited to be comprehended. It is complicated and very fun: a jam factory in a one-time summer cottage (cottage industry so to speak), shop of yummy, quirky Maine goods and 15 flavors of jam, marmalade and chutney, sculpture studio and dozens of whimdsical outdoor sculptures made of found materials, mostly metal and remnants from livelihoods of yore: fishing, farming, forestry. Sculptures range from bitty birds to a 15' tall flamingo, a Grail Castle complete with maids and knights to a juke joint spilling the blues out the doorway where a table set with a checkerboard awaits play. A cultural playground for all ages? A quirky food experience in an idyllic island setting? Art that makes dogs bark and people laugh? You tell me!
