They have a good food selection at good prices. Recommend their zong zi, they said they make a fresh batch every week. Their tofu dessert looks fresh, would like to try this next time!

It’s a nice spot that lasts in Chinatown. Many traditional food and or desserts. The only downside is, some items are not kept fresh. I would recommend you to avoid buying fresh item left on counters in room temperature, since there are not additives/preservatives, they go bad quickly esp if they were not 100% cool down prior to putting them in the clear plastic boxes that kept the warm moisture, experience twice already where I had to throw them away by the time I get home and they were a bit sour. Other than that, soy milk drinks and other items either kept in the fridge or in the hot pots are good.

I wanted to share my experience during my recent visit. Unfortunately, I found the food to be lacking in authenticity and freshness. The rice cake had some signs of mold, and the herbal jelly didn’t evoke the fond memories of my childhood. Additionally, the tofu flower was overly watery and broken apart. While one staff member was pleasant, the overall attitude of the team was disappointing. It felt like they were reluctant to provide service, which is concerning in a hospitality setting. If the staff isn’t interested in creating a welcoming atmosphere, it may be worth reconsidering their roles at the front counter. Also, I ordered four tea eggs, but when I got home, I realized they were missing from my bag.

They carry a variety of Traditional snacks and desserts that bring back childhood memories. The two ladies working in the shop are super friendly. Highly recommended this hidden gem in the heart of Chinatown,

The staff are super sweet. The hot tofu is excellent. They also have cold tofu, Shrimp Chips, Lobster Chips, a Large Variety of Sticky Rice, Soy Milk, Rice Cakes, Brown Sugar Cakes, Cold noodles, Rice Noodles, and Tea Eggs. A beloved staple in Chinatown. Also they take order requests, which is great when you have family over and need a large order of everyone's favorites, a few days in advance notice is recommended.

Love their soy milk! They sell small (16 oz) and large (half gallon) sizes - and it’s super affordable. The red capped ones mean there’s added sugar. I also got their BBQ pork buns and they were solid. The lady who works there is really nice. Definitely will be coming back for soy milk and to try their other bakery items :)

Tofu pudding was tasty and refreshing. I like this Ginger syrups. Peanuts and pork sticky rice wrap was great taste. Customer Service is good. Service person speaks good English.

Initially, I was planning to visit Fong On, but after reading reviews suggesting changes to their tofu pudding, I decided to come here instead. The choice was well worth it! I ordered a large, hot dou hua (tofu pudding), which came in a sturdy plastic container. Freshly made each morning, the pudding was incredibly smooth and came with a gingery brown sugar sauce on the side, perfectly complementing the delicate tofu. I also couldn't resist trying their tea egg, marinated to perfection with a rich soy sauce flavor. And the freshly made, unsweetened soy milk was especially nostalgic; it had a deep soybean flavor that took me back to the days of buying fresh soy milk from street vendors in Taiwan. While I didn't get a chance to try their famous zongzi (sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves) this time, the aroma was incredible, and I'll definitely be back for it. With no seating, this narrow takeout-only spot is ideal for a quick stop. Service was fast and no-nonsense, and they take credit cards. Affordable and packed with authentic flavor, 46 Mott is a true gem for anyone looking to indulge in traditional snacks and desserts in NYC's Chinatown.

Come here if you want some childhood snacks and desserts (tofu fa, grass jelly, putzai go, sweet rice cake, tea eggs, zongzhi, etc) I love their tofu fa. You can get it either hot or cold. I also like that they give you more than 1 syrup if you get a large. For $5 it was not bad at all.

It's been a while so I came back here to give this place a second chance after being disappointed by my original Fong On. I understand that whoever is reading this might be put off by what I'm about to say. Yes, I know the beef. Yes, I know this is not the original but guess what? This place preserved the memories of the original. I hate to say this but the tofu pudding from this place down to the syrup and the container they put it in brought back all my childhood memories in one slurp. For $5 a quart, the tofu pudding hit the spot. It tasted like the original. They have two options for syrup: white sugar and brown sugar. For traditional taste, brown sugar is the way to go. I also tried their brown rice cakes. Again, perfect texture and sweetness. Loved it! What I admire about this place is that they try to preserve the tradition and not try to make it hip. Don't fix what is not broken. Fong On is serving tofu pudding in those paper soup cups and making funky names for their toppings. I understand they're trying to cater to people unfamiliar to tofu pudding but the recipe and the texture is just not cutting it. Their syrup is also very watered down unlike this place who gets it right. The original flavors of rice cakes should be brown sugar and white sugar served in a clam shell and this is what they're doing. Perfect! I'm now a fan!

For $5, you get a quart of tofu pudding and syrup. You really can't beat that price anywhere. I got the chilled option, but I believe you can also get it warm. The store also has other baked goods and traditional desserts. I was in and out of the store within a couple minutes!

They ran out of the cold tofu pudding which was what I wanted, but the hot one wasn't bad. This is definitely the traditional tofu pudding I've been craving. Maybe I have to go earlier next time. I also got the little bozai cake. It was okay for $2. But I think I like the man at the cart down the street better for $1 each...haha. But I would come back for the tofu pudding for sure and maybe some zongzi. The service was quick and the staff was nice. It's a small little place and everything was to go.

Small shop with quick service and tasty, classic Dou Hua (tofu pudding). The line forms inside the shop, and the tofu pudding comes with a little sauce packet. It comes at a good price, but the cashier seemed upset when we asked for a spoon. The service is quick and does not have seating, so it's convenient for takeout. There were a few people also inside ordering when we went on a Saturday around noon.

Amazing small shop with traditional snacks. I come here for soy milk, tofu pudding and the other Asian desserts. They have the red bean soup dessert that is delicious. Everything is so reasonably priced and cheap! Service is fast and they definitely need to be since the space is so small. They accept card.

It's been so long since my last visit. I hadn't been since the 2020s, when I worked downtown, pre-pandemic, so I was thrilled to see #46 Mott not only open, but thriving! The zongzi circa 2024 were exactly the same as they were circa 2020: restrained, made with excellent rice and filled in our case with peanuts and a bit of pork ($3.75). It was delicious, but not decadent -- true to this shop's form. We found the lotus leaf wrapped rice ($3) to be even more fantastic, the rice looser than in the zongzi and imbued through with the fragrance of lotus leaf, all generously stuffed with your choice of fillings. (The vegetarian mushroom was truly excellent, the pork very good.) My favorite, though, may have been the soy sauce / tea eggs, which were thoroughly marinated and deliciously briny. It took some self restraint to not order the dou hua (silken tofu custard), which we like to take home and dress with savory toppings like soy sauce and toasted sesame oil, chives and cilantro -- a perfect warm weather dish -- or the soy milk. We've really enjoyed #46's versions of these in the past! But sadly, I was already laden down from shopping and couldn't handle any more weight. They accept credit cards without a surcharge IIRC. The young woman working at the counter was courteous and conversed perfectly in English, Mandarin and several other Chinese dialects by the sound of it. There's no seating in this tiny, narrow takeout only operation -- but a high concentration of good eats! I love. Next time, I'm bringing more friends so we can collectively carry more loot.

46 Mott Bakery is a must stop for us when we go to Chinatown! This small shop offers a wide variety of traditional Chinese snacks and treats, ranging from zhongzi to tea eggs to doufu hua (tofu pudding) to Chinese herbal tea to put chai ko (little bowl cake)! They offer ready-to-eat items as well as frozen treats you can cook at home. Everything is incredibly affordable, making it easy to indulge in your favorite snacks without breaking the bank. There is no seating so it's a convenient place to pick up some takeout!

Stumbled upon this shop that sells all kinds of Chinese treats! We bought some rice cakes with red beans and coconut rice dumplings filled with custard! Love that you can buy little things as snacks or for a small after a meal dessert! Both were soft and chewy like mochi and lightly sweetened. Basically, you walk in and pick what you'd like then pay for it. Very quick service and it's only a take out shop, so no tables or chairs. What you see is what they have left!

My friend first told me about 46 because I wanted to find a spot that sells frozen sticky rice to take home. I am now a fan of their mushroom sticky rice and have 20 of them in my freezer! The regular pork ones are good too. Through Yelp I found out that their specialty was the tofu pudding, so I had to try it and I love it! I always come here to take some home with me, and the sweet sauce that you add on top is a nice touch. They have a bunch of other items such a soy milk, fresh bakery items, pork buns etc. A good spot to try if you are in Chinatown!

Came to Chinatown to do Lunar new year shopping. Very friendly service as usual. Ran out of soy milk due to shopping crowd before Lunar new year. Got the must have sweet 'tofu flower ' $5 a quart and other traditional Chinese pastries/ snacks. Good quality product. Reasonable price. Owner told me they also sell wonton noodle from HK. She said they are really from HK. $3 for a container. Stored in refrigerator.

Was in the area and decided to pick up some snacks from my childhood. The service was quick and friendly. Place offered a variety of goods and was clean and organized. It's a grab and go place. I only got the bozai cake which was good. But on a whim I grabbed the herbal mochi because I love herbal jelly but it was bad. It's not soft and chewy like mochi. It's hard and dense and oily. Don't recommend but would go back and try other things next time.

Previously, everytime I visited NYC, I made sure to visit 46 on Mott St. for their Tofu Pudding. Now that I live in NYC, I make sure to visit everytime I'm in Chinatown. One would say I'm loyal to 46 ... and I am for good reason. Tofu Pudding - fresh, soft, silky, and delicious hot or cold. I can eat this anytime of the year in any weather. Soy Milk - if I'm going to be out and about, this is my on-the-go drink if I can't pick up the tofu pudding. They have both sweet and unsweetened options. Herbal Grass Jelly / Herbal Tea - similar to the tofu pudding and soy milk, very fresh and delicious. Sometimes I do prefer this since the herbal flavors are quite refreshing. They also offer a wide variety of items to pick up from the counter that I loved including, but not limited to, Bozai Cake, Brown/White Sugar Cake, fresh rice noodles, etc. Open up the freezer chest and you'll find a variety of frozen goodies like dumplings and siu mais. In the mood for something hot? Try their Zong Zi or Lo Mai Gai. If you can't tell by now, but I frequent 46, and you should too.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while after hearing about their tofu pudding. While I was passing by, I saw that they were going to raise their prices in December, so I thought it was as good as a time as any to try it. I got a large tofu pudding as well as an herbal jelly. I wish they had more sugar syrup options than a plain brown sugar as I prefer ginger syrup with my tofu pudding. Despite that, the tofu pudding was amazing. So soft and smooth. The tofu was silky and hit the spot. It comes warm because they leave it in a rice cooker and scoop it out from there. There is a little too much condensation and liquid that comes with it, but you can always pour it out at home. The herbal pudding was great too. It was a classic herbal pudding, and it wasn't more than $5 for each of the portions. Even if they raise the prices, I can't imagine that the prices would be exaggerated.

This was my childhood favorite. My mom would always bring me here after school to pick up a snack before Chinese school. The tofu pudding is normally fresh and silky. I must have gotten a bad batch because it looks like broken tofu and the texture is not silky at all. They must have added too much coagulant.

I really like the salted egg zongzi here. Consistent and good pricing. I'm really glad they take card. The tofu dessert here also looks good. I'm planning on getting that next time.

I'm not a fan of tofu and neither is L so we didn't try the freshly made tofu that other customers came for. I just wanted some grass jelly $3 each for a small container...for my mom and I got one for us but I forgot to bring it back home but at least my mom got to enjoy it. L also tried this coconut mochi which he didn't like cuz it wasn't sweet enough for him but if you like less sugary desserts, you'd be fine with it. The lady before us bought a lot of desserts about $35 worth I think. A small group of tourists came in after us and they heard about the tofu pudding. So it's a popular spot. Maybe one day I'll come back and try it since they have other items as well but we were carrying so much stuff already.

Absolutely love coming to 46 in Chinatown to pick up some food. I love their guai ling go (which comes with a side of syrup) as well as their tea eggs. They also have dim sum for sale, buns, drinks, other desserts, and more. The cashier was extremely friendly and welcoming and spoke decent English. They accept card payments for transactions greater than $5, which is helpful.

Store is small with the front counter full of sticky rice and rice cakes, etc.; soy milk and frozen items to buy. Behind the counter is steamed soy dessert, which I wanted to try but skipped it today. The lady there was very nice. So, got the brown sugar rice cake $3 which I thought was like filipino version - texture is good but there was an aftertaste I didn't like. My son said it tasted like olive oil. So many options of sticky rice wrapped in leaves so I got the sausage and bbq pork one for $3. Rice is tasty but with really small piece of sausage and bbq.

I usually come here for their mung bean or peanut zongzi but have noticed that they've gotten a bit more expensive compared to other locations that sell zongzi. Their zongzi is also quite small in size though they are yummy! I've also noticed that this location has recently become quite popular with tourists which could explain the price hikes. The place is also cash only. The past weekend, I came here again to try their traditional chinese rice pudding cups (boot jai goh) since I saw that they had matcha ones! Sadly, I wasn't wowed by the taste. It didn't taste like much - no matcha flavor at all, just tasted sweet like the normal brown sugar ones. It wasn't bad by any means - just nothing special. I did, however, enjoy their red bean soup which was super yummy. Their herbal tea is quite good as well.

Cash only for transactions under $5. Amazing soy milk and red bean buns (豆沙包)! 6-pack of buns for $7. To prepare them, I simply splashed some water on them, put them in the microwave for 45 seconds, and they were as good as new. Spongy when poked, soft, and there was a generous amount of smooth red bean paste inside. Easy ordering process and friendly customer service from the gentleman and lady.

Take Out I recently visited 46, a family-owned business that has been around for a long time. One thing that stood out to me was the blue cap on soy milk unsweetened drinks, while the sweetened ones had a red cap. This made it easy to distinguish between the two and ensure that I got the drink I wanted. The service was quiet, and the decor was old school, but it added to the charm of the place. They had leaf wraps and other sweets available, and everything was reasonably priced. The setup is takeout only, so there's no seating available, and people were just waiting around to order. One thing that I liked about the place was that you could help yourself to the items in the fridge. This made it easy to grab what you wanted and go. 46 is a hidden gem in Chinatown. I'm glad I stopped by after grabbing lunch over at Xian's Famous Foods. My brother and I opted to try the Tofu Pudding (AKA tofu hua or taufu fa). Be sure to ask for extra sweetner/sugar syup if you like your tofu pudding on the sweeter side. 46 does charge a bit extra for that. The tofu pudding was fresh, silky smooth, and warm. This dessert was very nostalgic and reminded me of my childhood. My family and I enjoyed this as treat if we opted for fresh soymilk or tofu pudding on the weekends. Looking forward to be back! I have been coming here for decades and I am so happy that it is still around. I have moved out of the neighborhood, but I try to come by a couple of times a month to support it. I always get the soy bean milk (with sugar), sugar cake, and gongzi. I need to get more tofu pudding!

Love this small mom and pop shop. The tofu dessert is very yummy and I like trying out their different options. I try to get something every time I'm in the neighborhood. The tofu dessert is a go to, the po zai goa is great. The zhong is also good.

Feels like my sister came on an off day for them. She was in the city and was craving for something sweet so she came to get a large quart of tofu pudding to bring home to share. Generally speaking, my family enjoys eating tofu pudding so we were excited to try theirs. In addition to this, she also got some soymilk to try. First the Tofu pudding just didn't seem fresh- from the looks of opening the container, I did not feel excited to have some because the tofu pudding itself did not look silky as we are used to seeing it and it was more lumpy. We scooped out half a cup each for everyone first. Their ginger syrup was great but it certainly does not make up for the tofu pudding that was not soft and just not great in general. Also, for $5 a quart, we expected something more but it was pretty disappointing overall. I've scrolled through pictures and did see that on other days, their tofu pudding does look silky and fresh but I guess their quality is a tad inconsistent? The soymilk, which I did not try, I heard was decent so at least that was great. I've been wanting to come to this store to try different things from them but a little nervous to do so after this purchase.

The BEST Baked Pork Buns (mhmmmmmm even better than THE notorious "best") Baked Pork Buns ~$9 10/10 -firm yet pillowy bite. the bun doesnt just mush when u bite -minimal sweet sauce action and usually that would be a red flag for me but this is the perfect amount -80/20 mix of pork and fatty pieces of pork AND they take card and apple pay AND the sweetie at the register is soooo kind and is first timers friendly for sure - i overheard her gently asking if someone knew how to make the item that they were buying and then offered instructions and tips to cook.. SWEETNESSSSS

I checked out this shop for their tofu pudding. I heard about the dessert but never tried it. I happened to come across this shop and went inside. The tofu was soft and melted in my mouth. They give you a sweet syrup that you mix into the pudding and it hits the spot. I finished the pudding pretty quickly. I would definitely go back for more and it's reasonably priced.

Hidden gem in Chinatown 46 offers a variety of items including tofu pudding, frozen baos, frozen dim sum, soybean milk, etc. I came here for the tofu pudding and was impressed with how silky and sweet it was. You could tell it was made from high quality ingredients, and it was cheap for a large container. Also, I definitely recommend pouring the ginger syrup inside the tofu pudding for an added kick!

I've been coming here since I was a kid. Their soy milk is on point. Their herbal tea will flush out anything negative in your body. I also get their soft tofu (soup?) and tea eggs. Love these people here I love that their soy milk isn't too sweet. Support local business!

The tofu pudding is just amazing!!! I haven't had tofu pudding in a while, so I ordered a size L - it was huge! It came with two tubs of syrup which was more than enough to sweeten the delicious tofu pudding. The pudding was silken, delicate, hot hot hot and just so yummy. I also had their soy milk, fresh and rich tasting. Nothing watered down. I liked that there was an unsweetened version. Service was super friendly! I highly recommend!

Delicious tofu pudding (doufuhua) and they also have soy milk and herbal teas. I haven't tried anything else on their menu so I can't speak about those but the tofu pudding was silky and delicious. Great place to satisfy that craving.

I've frequented this establishment for years for their fresh made douhua. When they run out I go around the corner to Chinatown Ice-cream Factory and enjoy a couple scoops of ice-cream as I wait for a fresh batch of douhua. I'm that obsessed with their douhua.

The experience: Great! Small, take out store, no seating. Lady working the counter was very nice, answered my questions with English less accented than almost all Chinatown shops I've been to (staffed by older than 40 year olds). Just for background, I speak Mandarin but didn't want to assume she does. Had to say one of the items I wanted to buy in Mandarin for clarity and she understood so likely she speaks both languages, don't know about Cantonese. The food: Delicious and inexpensive 1. White fermented cake, slightly tangy, not too sweet (unlike a lot of other places that makes it). 2. Tofu pudding / custard, delicate and piping hot. Choice of white sugar or brown sugar syrup. Small or large size. Total for a small tofu pudding and the white cake was $6. How can that price be beat?? Highly recommend.

I used to come here back in the late 70s as a child. We lived across the street of the church on Mott. Then as we moved to Chicago, each time as we visited, I would stop by and get the taufu fa. Then, after I got married and had kids, brought them there too for taufu fa. Was so sad to hear it closed, and then heard it was bought and restored by new owners. Then read the article about the "new" Fong On on division st. Finally got to try 46 today, and to be honest, I really loved it. It is a no frills soy milk/taufu fa mom/pop owned store. The tofu pudding was hot and fresh. Jiggly, soft and tender without the acidic after taste you get when too much coagulant is used. The hot fresh soy milk was already sold out for the morning (more on the way), and it was just 10:10am and they just opened at 10. I got 2 "small" taufu fa, with extra syrup per Yelp recommendations (I really didn't need the extra), and a 16oz bottle of cold soy milk (made the day before), and it was $7. So with all the recent inflation, being in NYC, I think the prices are super reasonable. As for other posts re: not sweet enough soy milk, honestly it is lightly sweetened just like my parents would like. Had to add extra sugar for my 19 yr old daughter tho.

Visited here after hiking Indian Head. We were hungry and they did not disappoint! My gf had the chicken tika masala and I had the special, bison and lamb meatloaf over whipped potatoes and a side of green beans. We were both very happy with what came out! Delicious! We would definitely recommend!

This pandemic definitely decreased a lot of eating out activities for me. However, I was lucky enough to have my mom purchased these fresh "haw fun" noodles from this place and drop it off to me. The portion was pretty big so I was able to make multiple dishes from it (beef haw fun & noodle soup style). The quality of the haw fun is definitely one of the best I've had. I haven't personally been to the location but I definitely do want to go visit and try the "tofu" flower staples and other classic items from here whenever the craziness is over.

Tips: For unsweetened Soy Milk, look for the blue bottle cap! For sweetened Soy Milk, look for the red bottle cap! They were actually sold out of the large sweetened Soy Milk so I got a small bottle instead along with Bozai Cake, a Salted Egg Yolk & Pork with Peanuts & Sausage Zongzi, and a Red Bean (红豆) Zongzi. ** Cash only I had high expectation in this hole in the wall. I came here to try my childhood favorite; white and brown pudding with red bean and sweet cold soy milk. Sadly, the white and brown pudding with red bean were tasteless, nothing special. Both can be a little sweeter. Sweet cold soy milk was extremely watered down. I felt like I was drinking water with a slight taste of soy milk =\ I do not recommend trying these.

The Zong Zhi was quite disappointing .. I thought they are specialized in Zong Zhi (see my photo). The Tofu dessert was really good with a kick of ginger taste.

They have the best baked pork buns, steamed rice and meat wrapped in some type of leaf. Sooo good!! Very helpful staff. Will return

They have "crystal steam cake" here, haven't seen this in forever, definitely brings back memories of asian steamed desserts as an HK kid.
