5 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in NYC - Eater NY

"On Bleecker Street in Noho, Bessou serves homey Japanese cooking in a comfortably low-lit space. The food is reliably soothing, and this week I discovered the restaurant is also great for groups when it was able to accommodate a large reservation just the day before dining. Aside from that clutch flexibility, Bessou has a menu that works for sharing, split into bites, small plates, and large dishes. Among them, there’s something to suit just about everyone, from chicken karaage to vegetable tempura udon to pork chashu." - Eater Staff

Yelp
I came here for a friend's birthday, and we tried pretty much everything on the menu. The standouts were the popcorn chicken, crab drop soup, toast roll, and baby back ribs. The popcorn chicken was perfectly crispy and tender. The presentation of it was also really cute. The crab drop soup was PHENOMENAL. I would come back just for that. Overall this is a worthwhile place to visit, and I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Super fun Korean fusion spot. I'd say food gets a 3.5/5 for me - they have some good options. Nothing mind-blowing flavor wise, but everything was very reasonably priced. Ambience was easily a 5/5. We dined outdoors and got to watch the sun set while we were eating and sipping sweet tea + our free welcome drinks. The banana pudding was such a cute activity. Playing with your food is so underrated. Somehow the act of getting to paint on our dessert made that a 10/10 dessert, even if in taste-wise it was no different from magnolia. Overall a solid option for a relatively last minute vibey reservation. I will be back!

Yelp
Tapas Style fusion cuisine! Definitely a must to get at least 2-3 dishes per person to feel satisfied with the meal. It's more so elevated simple dishes, but great set of options. I highly recommend the shrimp toast and the bibimbap. Service of the food is very quick as well, sake shot on the house is also given.

Yelp
C as in Charlie has something for everyone! It's a casual, packed restaurant with a busy, welcoming atmosphere. Servers are very attentive and kind- we were greeted with a sake shot to start. The tartare was delicious, as was the oxbone cream pasta. I prefer more delicate flavors, so the popcorn chicken was just a little bold for me. The star of the show was the mushroom bibimbap- contrasting textures with a delicious variety of mushrooms- I would come back just for this dish. The sweet tea paired nicely with the meal- tasted like the Chinese herbal tea that comes in a red can. We finished the night with Charlie's deli bagel, which was a cute dessert interpretation of the New York bagel.

Yelp
Good spot with a unique twist on korean tapas. Definitely very different flavors that I have never seen anywhere else and appreciate the vibe here. I wish they sold more than just sake and beer but otherwise this is a great spot for light drinks and shareable bites at a great price point. Crowded always and can be on the louder side.

Yelp
We stumbled on this restaurant and glad we did! It is like a tapas bar but Korean with a nice twist. In the summer they had outdoor sitting because it is always crowded. That is how good the food is! Everything and anything we ordered was delicious! I highly recommend this place. It is a bit of a Korean fusion but is so good!!

Yelp
This was a great choice for some fusion Korean food with a variety of vegetarian options. Persimmon salad - fresh from the fruit and greens, with a creamy base and some crunch from walnuts. I don't ordinary like persimmons very much, but I enjoyed the salad. Fried okra - the family meal for the day. Crispy with a good amount of heat. This was definitely my favorite, and I'd love to see it be a permanent addition to the menu. Green tomato hot pocket - flaky pastry with cheese and green tomato, with a sweet and savory sauce on the side. Not bad, but pretty one note. Mushroom bibimbap - really great. There's a variety of mushrooms that make for a savory base, plus a light sauce and a runny egg on top. The restaurant recommends not mixing the dish, but cutting into the egg and letting the yolk change the character of the dish over time. This made for a cool, varied experience. My friend had the oxbone pasta, which I didn't try, but he seemed to enjoy. The bagel - cute idea, but unexpected in texture. The monaka wafer is not too sweet and crunchy, and the syrup on the inside has some salt to balance out the sweetness, which was really nice. I would have preferred softer ice cream to mimic the texture of cream cheese. Don't try to eat this with your hands! The meal came out to $110 for two after tax and tip, which is quite reasonable for the large array of dishes. The space is pretty small, so I'd recommend getting a reservation.

Yelp
@c.asincharlie is a Korean fusion styled tapas restaurant, so their food is best shared with about 2-3 plates per person. Service was friendly and food came really fast (plates were taken away a bit too fast), and our waitress was very kind and treated us to a round of shots as birthday celebration. While everything tasted yummy and flavorful, only the steak was a standout to me with its unique umami. The other dishes were not as memorable in my opinion.

Yelp
Absolute absolute bomb of a restaurant. So good! We came on a friend's recommendation. The interior is quite hip, lots of mood lighting, neon lights, and the whole bunch. Decently noisy, so not exactly the most intimate experience, but overall a really fun vibe. We started with the oxbone cream pasta. Noodles were cooked to a great texture, nice and creamy, green onions provided a good bunch. Great dish! The Seoul'sbury Steak was fantastic, definitely get it! Never really had grits before, so have no idea how these compare, but super creamy with a bit of texture. The meat patty was also cooked super well, with a light tangy, sweet glaze. The Mushroom Bibimbap was my favorite dish of the night. What I loved was all the different mushrooms they used, all providing really distinct flavor profiles that you can clearly taste. They were also all cooked slightly differently. One kind was braised in an intense soy sauce glaze, others lightly charred. Really wonderful dish. We wrapped up with the B as in banana dessert. I typically don't like banana desserts, but they balance here super well with the cream. Yummy! Overall, wonderful wonderful restaurant, with many memorable dishes. Definitely give them a go!!

Yelp
Been here a couple times and every single time is truly amazing! As a Korean-gal with Southern roots, this restaurant really resonates with me. The owner is the sweetest, and I'm really happy to see C as in Charlie doing so well! The food is fire. Their oxbone cream pasta and mushroom bibimbap are must-orders, and the popcorn chicken comes in the cutest branded box. Everything tastes like it was made with love and thought- blending southern staples with Korean ingredients. For drinks, the sweet tea is great (and 99 cents!), and every time I've been here they come over with multiple complimentary shots of sake. I once came for a friend's bday and they really kept the alcohol flowing that night. Definitely give this place a visit- amazing food and fun vibes. Be sure to check out the curiously strange bathroom before you leave!

Yelp
Decent Korean fusion place in manhattan! We ordered 4 dishes to share between the two of us, because we were advised that the portion sizes are small. - Beef tartare: 7/10 (good, but not mind blowingly great.) - Steak: 8/10 (basically a twist on the Korean hamburg steak. I really liked the creamy sauce.) - Crab drop: 8/10 (creamy crab and veggie soup) - Mushroom bibimbap: 8/10 (decent bibimbap with mushrooms, but I wished they had a bit more sauce to complement the rice) Overall, the vibes were great but it did get super noisy when it got packed. Service was fast and good!

Yelp
Another Korean tapas place (similar to Mokyo, Thursday Kitchen etc) - I thought the food was solid but not super memorable? Favorite was probably the mushroom bibimbap (but tbh I just love mushrooms). Wished the oxbone cream pasta was more creamy and had more oxbone flavor.

Yelp
It took us a while to get seated despite reservations, and there was very little space to wait. This restaurant is uncomfortably cramped, and we essentially were dining with the other two top best to us, so much so that the waiter thought we were one group . The food is fine, with some standouts and other items that were good but not worth the hype. The beet hummus was fine, but a bit dry. The green tomato hot pocket was good but the pairing with the balsamic glaze really took it to the next level. The mushroom bibambap had fantastic flavors. The server was very friendly, and loved that they threw in an extra shot for the awkwardness of the seating. I'd come back, especially if there are a few more items added to the menu that catch my eye.

Yelp
Six of us celebrated our dear friend's birthday here and had such a blast!! The food and drinks were all delicious, especially the popcorn chicken, oxbone pasta, steak, and banana dessert. Gabby is the BEST host and graciously humored our loud group. Such great vibes with fun, amazing staff. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Korean/southern inspired, C as in Charlie has a menu that is fun with (almost) too many options to choose from - whether it's a green tomato hot pocket or mushroom bibimbop. There's definitely something for everyone here. Knocking a star off as I found the place really loud and was practically shouting to talk to my friend (and the staff there, who are great)

Yelp
For a random Saturday GNO, I wanted to take one of my girl friends from out of town to C as in Charlie. Just for a quick bite & good vibes, I made the ressie for this place. First, I highly recommend you make a reservation. Second of all, the dishes came out quick. We loved the fried chicken bites, potato wedges & mushroom bibimbap. I was a little disappointed in the steak, but to be honest, it's probably because I'm not a fan of burger meat. Keep in mind that C as in Charlie does Asian fusion so the food may be a little sweeter than expected. Thanks for a great night out! Loved it!

Yelp
The seoulisbury steak was TO DIE FOR! The meat patty was very tender and complimented the grits very very well. I would honestly come back just for that dish! The staff was also very nice and very attentive!

Yelp
I love the creativity of Korean Southern style tapas --a fusion of cuisines you never see together. It truly embodies the inspiration from three Koreans from Atlanta. While I wish I could give this spot 5 stars, there were some hits and some a-okay dishes. First of all, the menu is pretty simple as our table of 4 tried almost every dish. They recommended 2-3 dishes per person as we ended up ordering 10 dishes to share family style. As soon as we sat down, we were provided complimentary shots of sake --what a way to start! We also ordered a bottle of Wonmae ($35), which had a sweetness from the plum. It's a sipper as it provided about 10 glasses from the bottle. For food, I'll start with my favorites: Mushroom Bibimbap ($16), Crab Drop ($13), Oxbone Cream Pasta ($14), Toast Roll ($13), and Popcorn Chicken ($14). The bibimbap is a must, which was delicious after mixing the mushrooms and egg together. I liked how much seafood flavor was in the crab drop and how it was served in a cute cup. I don't get the oxbone part of the pasta, but it's creamy and delicious. The toast roll is nice and crunchy while the popcorn chicken great for sharing as it came with a good amount in a vintage popcorn box. We also ordered the Baby Back Ribs ($16) plus an extra rib for $5 since it only came with 3 pieces and there's 4 of us. This was solid, but nothing too out of the ordinary. The Seoulsbury Steak ($15) and Fluke Ceviche were good too, but didn't stand out to me as much. The ceviche only came with 5 pieces, so this felt too little. Most of these dishes are on the small side since they are tapas, but we were pretty full by the end of it. Of course we had to get both of the desserts: Banana Pudding ($11) and Charlie's Deli Bagel ($12). I'm not into bananas, but this was such a fun and yummy dish. I enjoyed that it was a bit hands on as you got to draw on the pudding where you can be entered to win a bottle of sake --what a fun idea! I also liked how the bagel is actually a sweet dessert made of wafer and ice cream and jam, which was such a treat. Overall, loved the creativity of all the dishes and enjoyed most of them too. This is a great spot to have a small bite or an entire meal if you order the entire menu. Note: 5% off if paying cash!

Yelp
I have been meaning to try this restaurant for months if not at least a year, and finally had the chance to come by for a recent weekday dinner. My friend and I had a reservation for 6pm (which is when they open, I think), but when we got there a few minutes early, they were not only already open but actually somewhat busy (half-full) - and during out meal it quickly filled up (so definitely make a reservation) The two of us ordered a bunch of small plates to share: - toast roll: pretty good. I liked the light flavour of the shrimp and thought it paired nicely with the chilli (esque?) accompanying sauce, and overall it wasn't too oily or heavy.  - potato nuggets: i love potatoes! I thought they were cooked wonderfully (soft on the inside, crispy on the outside), and the contrast with the truffle mayo was lovely. They did tend to lean on the saltier side, though. - oxbone cream pasta: so like carbonara pasta? lol. not bad but I feel like there was no noticeable "oxbone" flavour through. Nothing too memorable about this otherwise. - baby back ribs: since we were a party of 2, the server offered to add an extra (i.e. 4th) rib for $5 (to make it evenly divisible by 2). These ribs were probably the highlight of the meal. The meat was tender and just fell right off the bone, and the savoury flavour was so yummy paired with the light kick of the harissa sauce. Also, in terms of price, I think this was much more worth it compared to some of the other stuff we ordered. - banana pudding: I thought it was kind of fun to get to draw whatever you want on the pudding with a tube of frosting, and my friend did a nice rendering of a banana haha! Otherwise, though, this was nothing special, it tasted like every other overly-sweet banana pudding I've had elsewhere. The ambience is a little quirky but endearing (perhaps a bit of an acquired taste). There were plastic bananas duct-taped to a ledge near our table. Also, the bathroom is... quite an experience! You just have to go try it yourself, there's no way to fully capture what it's like in words. All in all, a decent meal - nothing was bad by far, but most things were just... pretty good. Price point was reasonable across the board, although higher than the quantity/quality of the dishes we ordered might have merited. I think it would be nice to come back to try out a few of their other dishes, but probably won't be at the top of my list.

Yelp
C as in Charlie is a Southern/Korean fusion spot with tapas, so I recommend coming with a few people to share and try different dishes. Our friend got a res for 4 at 5pm on Sunday and the place was filled! It's also not the biggest restaurant, but seems like their still popular They started us off with a complimentary shot of sake! and recommended 2-3 plates/person Overall, I thought the food was ok and tend to lean on the creamier side. My favorites were the popcorn chicken in a gochujang glaze (which almost every table ordered) and the fried potato nuggets with truffle mayo I would probably pass on the crab drop soup and the pasta which were a bit too creamy and not very memorable The toast roll was unique and I liked the flavors, kinda like shrimp toast, and the mushroom bibimbap was also just ok for me. We ended the night with another mini shot of sake (thank you!) and the banana dessert

Yelp
Such a fun and creative restaurant! Amazing food, amazing presentation, and an amazing experience. We ordered the crab drop soup, toast rolls, mushroom bibimbap, oxbone cream pasta, and seoul'sbury steak. My favorite dish was the bibimbap- I love the richness of the egg yolk combined with the mushrooms (perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor). The pasta was a close second-- the sauce is delicious, though I'm not a huge fan of the spaghetti noodles themselves. I know they're not an Italian restaurant, but this dish would've been so much better with fresh pasta, or perhaps even a different noodle- udon maybe? Nonetheless, I would still reorder this dish and would highly recommend! The seoul'sbury steak was cooked well and quite tasty. I adore the presentation of the crabdrop. The whipped cream texture and appearance paired with a savory crab taste is a mind boggle which I love. The toast rolls were nice and crisp and the sauce was great, though I wish the shrimp had more flavor themselves. We also ordered the sweet tea which complimented all of the dishes nicely. We tried both of the desserts which was the highlight of the meal for me. The bagel ice cream sandwich is adorable and tasted delicious! The actual 'bagel' part tasted like puffed rice and paired surprisingly well with the jelly and cream cheese gelato. I also really enjoyed the banana pudding but enjoyed drawing on it even more! SO FUN. They recommend ordering 2-3 dishes per person, but me and my friend found that this was a tad too much (in total, we ordered 5 dishes + 2 desserts). So perhaps 2-3 dishes per person is a good amount if you include the desserts in the count. Service was great! Side note: you must use the restroom while you are here. There is only one, but it is an experience in and of itself (spoiler: snail soap dispenser, taped banana, cool lights, video projected). The mouthwash was also a nice touch, very thoughtful. Overall, despite my small nitpicks, all of the plates we ordered were delicious and I will more than happily return to C as in Charlie!

Yelp
"Southern" tapas with a Korean twist and a fun vibe! We were greeted promptly and served sake shots on the house. The service was very quick and friendly - upon 10-15 minutes of ordering, our food had come out piping hot for us! Our server recommended 2-3 dishes per person, and we don't regret ordering 4 dishes and 1 dessert. My ranking is: 1) Oxbone cream pasta - you do get the seoullungtang flavor from the creaminess and slight heat from the pepper; our absolute favorite! 2) Popcorn chicken - very generous portions with great flavor and soft juicy texture! Even better with the cheese grits from the Seoul'sbury steak 3) Green tomato hot pocket - very savory and cheesy with a flaky crust; it was good enough on its own without the balsamic soy sauce 4) Charlie's deli bagel - the perfect biting type of ice cream with the tart sweetness of the jelly 5) Seoul'sbury steak - a bit dry in flavor for my preference but the cheesy grits were delicious

Yelp
Such a great ambiance with creative, delicious flavors and energetic staff! Fluke ceviche (5/5) - The fluke just melted in your mouth, but what really set this dish apart was the dressing. A lot of the ceviches I've had were way too sour, but this one was so bright and fruity. We later learned that they import Hallabong oranges from Jeju, which explains why this dish was so vibrant! Popcorn chicken (3/5) - Tasted like popcorn chicken, nothing special but not bad. Mushroom bibimbap (4/5) - Love all the different types of mushrooms, a variety of earthy flavors and textures! The hen of the woods was marinated in soy sauce, giving it a flavor punch. Oxbone cream pasta (3/5) - Tasted like a carbonara, not really special. Crab drop (5/5) - Oh wow this dish was good. Rich umami from the crab; the broth was soothing, creamy, sweet, slightly spicy; the silken tofu was such a nice texture. All of this combined, you get a delectable dish that checks all the boxes! Potato nuggets (4.5/5) - The truffle mayonnaise is so fragrant and rich, so good! The only reason I docked by 0.5 was because the potato nuggets were a disappointing accompaniment compared to Hojokban's truffle potato pancakes. Toast roll (5/5) - Crispy on the outside, rich and creamy on the inside. The shrimp was minced in a way that it didn't feel exactly like a shrimp toast you'd expect, it was interesting. The dipping sauce was a perfect, delicious accompaniment. Seoul'sbury steak (4/5) - Clever name haha, it was a gourmet version of a Salisbury steak. B as in banana (5/5) - They give you some frosting to draw and you enter a competition. Winner each month gets free sake! Guess what we drew :) (disclaimer: we did not win) Charlie's deli bagel (4/5) - An ice cream version of the cream cheese and jelly bagel, very creative. Our server was so amazing and brought great energy and passion! The funny names, dessert drawing competition, and fun twists on dishes were delightful. The dishes were fun and creative and delicious. Love this place!

Yelp
Korean / Southern fusion gets a big thumbs up from me! Space: Super funkily decorated. They've got taped bananas around the restaurant, kitschy posters, and a video of a man reading prime numbers projected onto the bathroom wall. It's casual and irreverent, good for a fun date or a hang w friends. Service: No complaints, very friendly!! Food: This is a tapas-style spot; they recommend 2-3 dishes per person, and I left stuffed after the two of us ordered four. My fave to least fave: - Mushroom bibimbap (do not sleep on this!!) - Ribs (fall off the bone tender) - Popcorn chicken (standard) - Ceviche (not my vibe but cool) Also get the sweet ice tea.

Yelp
I love a tapas bar but with the added Korean twist, this place left me ecstatic. The service was super friendly. Highly recommend a reservation. We shared over 6-7 different items between two people. Each dish was more delectable than the next. My favorites were the popcorn chicken and Seoulsbury steak. They also carried one of our favorite beers, Lucky Cat. For added fun, head over to their bathroom. It was quite a unique experience.

Yelp
C as in Charlie is such a cool restaurant. Overall the food was amazing and I loved the vibe of the place. I loved how we were brought sake shots to start off with. The staff here were awesome! The chicken was definitely a fan favorite at our table and I loved the hot pocket. Everything was really good though. I do wish some of the portions were a little bigger, like the hummus. I will definitely be back again to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
C as in Charlie has been on my radar for a while now so I was excited to finally get a reservation! As other reviews mention, name of the game is small plates to share with the table. My dining partner and I got: - shrimp roll toast: one of my favorites of the evening, I enjoyed the crunch and the sweet chili sauce paired well (almost reminded me of a chipotle mayo) - seoulsbury steak: I see the appeal, though wasn't 100% up my alley - oxbone cream pasta: flavors were there for sure, but wish I had a piece of bread to soak up the sauce! - mushroom bibimbap: my favorite dish of the evening. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Really enjoyed with the runny egg and rice We enjoyed our meal and the friendly service. The vibe inside is definitely buzzy with the neon sign. It was packed at 6:30!

Yelp
Managed to score a reservation slot at 5pm on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago but was seated indoor right in front of the entrance which was pretty cold. Although there was a piece of cloth hanging between our table and the entrance, we can still feel the cold wind blowing at us. In terms of the food, we ordered: -crab drop: the most unique items out of the ones we ordered. Presentation wise liked like a latte but we were blown away by the savory flavor and how tasty this soup was -mushroom bibimbap: good but not out of this world -popcorn chicken: smells and tastes like sesame chicken... didn't find anything unique about this dish -baby back ribs: some inconsistencies in the tenderness. Some pieces are really tender and well done while others are not so -toast roll: tasty and crunchy Overall a cool southern/korean tapas spot to check out at least once!

Yelp
Here are my notes I took while dining at C as in Charlie: - charismatic sever in a bucket hat ( Sofie ) was such a great energy and made our dinner and expletive very memorable - Sweet tea: definitely fresh, not overly sugary - Salmon hoe: highly recommend breaking the fish up if you aren't good at raw fish but still a good option to try if you are willing to experiment, the sauce feels farmilar as a southern local. - Popcorn chicken; star of the show, flocer sits on your mouth and restoratives with you, sticky and farmilar - Toast roll: sauce was delicious breading was crunchy and thicker than a rice roll, it was weirdly simple but addictive - Salisbury steak: it's definitely hamburger on grits but in the best way. It a a sweet hamburger that is offset by savory grits, smooth but not a ton of flavor - Bagel dessert: fruit by the foot jelly filling, wafer type texture, what a yummy little crunch

Yelp
Love this restaurant! The menu was innovative but amazingly executed, and I love supporting innovative Korean concepts. Most of the staff was Korean too, so you can probably order in Korean and have the menu explained in Korean if you want! Pay attention when they explain the dishes to you--sometimes you should mix stuff; other times, you shouldn't. The sweet tea was great, sophisticated but not particularly unique--it's sweet tea. Recommend getting a glass. I got the mushroom bibimbap and the crab drop. I highly recommend both. The crab drop was an interesting, mild version of Soon tofu soup with crab and cream. When they give you your check, they bring you this cute notebook that you can write an answer in!

Yelp
Didn't even get to take a picture of the food because I was having too much fun!! This place was amazing!! They really care a lot about your entire experience, from the food to the service to the ambience. Our server Soph was amazing and honestly made our eating experience feel so homey (something I think hard to emulate in the city) Will be recommending this place to everyone!

Yelp
Checked out C as in Charlie after seeing so many of the cute photos of their food. Service was great and very helpful. Wanted to try some of the wines before deciding what to order and the server gave us a few to sample. They had a selection of natural wines. For food, servings are on the smaller side so we ordered a bunch of dishes to share: 1. Crudo: meh. Not the best. Tasted very fishy. Needed a lot more acidity and freshness. Skip 2. Shrimp toast roll: pretty good. Lots of shrimp inside 3. Popcorn chicken: good, nothing really special. But good dish for sharing 4. Crab thing: interesting presentation. Tasted good but a tad bit too salty. 5. Mushroom bulgogi: pretty good 6. Salisbury steak: good, came with grits 7. Bagel dessert: normal tasting ice cream sandwich with a wafer shaped like a bagel and some jam. Props on presentation, but basic taste wise 8. Banana pudding: cute idea for you to be able to decorate it, though tasted like a normal banana pudding Overall, the food in C as in Charlie was definitely made for the Instagram crowd aka nice cute presentation but fails to deliver the wow factor when it comes to flavor and creativity. Food wasnt bad, most stuff was good, though nothing special. Nothing really stood out. Desserts were particularly a let down- they promised so much in the presentation but taste wise was just blah and super normal. Come here if you just want the cute photos, but food wise, you're better off going somewhere else.

Yelp
This place has an interesting concept and the food was good. We had the mushroom bibimbap, oxbone cream pasta (very creamy), crab drop (almost tasted like a clam chowder but presented like a latte which was interesting) and the ribs which were pretty good.

Yelp
Came in without a reservation as soon as they opened at 5 on a Friday and was able to get a table for 2. They brought us 2 shots of soju to start the meal which was nice. We ordered beer and wine and 5 plates in total. This was the perfect amount of food for my bf and I. Food wise the popcorn chicken really blew us away. The glaze is the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The crab drop was also noteworthy. The servers were very attentive and made sure our drinks were always filled. An interesting atmosphere (the bathroom is illuminated by a black light lol) and good Korean fusion food for a reasonable price!

Yelp
I had an amazing experience here! I came here with a friend and ordered 4 dishes to share. Everything had good portion and tasted amazing. We got: - mushroom bibimbap - oxbone cream pasta - baby back ribs - Seouls'bury steak My favorites were the mushroom bibimbap and the baby back ribs, but everything was so good! I loved the variety of mushroom in the bibimbap and the super tender ribs. The grits in the Seouls'bury went so well with the Asian-falvored patty and the oxbone pasta was creamy without being overly heavy. We were completely stuffed after the meal so we could not get the desserts but I will come back to try them next time time!

Yelp
It's hard to label C as in Charlie. It's by no means S as in Sophisticated. Every dish comes out fast and hot. The dishes aren't refined, but they aren't rustic either. They feel like they were made in your own kitchen. And everything is just simply good. Nothing crazy, just high quality, delicious bites. It feels cozy. and the bathroom is worth the trip itself :)

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for so long, and I really wanted to like it. I came by around 7 PM on a Saturday evening walk in and we were able to get seated within 10 to 20 minutes because of no-shows. We ended up getting moved outside to have more time at our table. It was freezing, but the waiters brought out blankets and warm tea, which was super sweet of them. They had also started us off with free sake shots. As for the food, we order the popcorn chicken, mushroom bibimbap and the toasty roll. Unfortunately, everything seemed to lack flavor. The pieces of chicken were covered in sauce, but some sections are more flavorful than others. The other two were not that memorable. At the end they brought out the check and a little notebook where they provided a prompt at the beginning, and then you could add your answer, which was really cute. I'd like to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt and assume that we ordered the wrong things. A lot of my friends were surprise. I did not enjoy my dinner here so I would come again and give them another chance.

Yelp
I came here last night with my dad after seeing a show down the block. We didn't have a reservation, but thankfully they had an open table we could grab. The restaurant itself is very cute, with a tin ceiling, exposed brick walls and simple tables. The service was excellent and our waiter walked us through the menu and explained that everything would be shareable, as its tapas style. We ordered the green tomato hot pocket, the potato nuggets, the corn-y salad, the crab drop and the toast roll. Everything was ok flavor wise, but out of everything we ordered, three of the items were fried and just too heavy for my liking. The menu, unfortunately was also pretty limited in terms of being veggie friendly, so just a heads up if you don't eat meat/seafood. I might come here again just to grab a drink as it's a very cute spot, but I don't think I'd come again for the food.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday with Reservations for two people at 10PM, and the place was full. Me and my boyfriend arrived a little before our reservations but our table was ready at 10. We were helped immediately and the service is sooooo attentive. We were given two same shots to start off our dinner once seated. It's recommended to be 2-3 dishes per person and me and my boyfriend ordered the following: Toast roll: I loved this. This reminded me of dimsum but with a slightly different spin. The sweet chili sauce was maya based and was amazing. Popcorn chicken: amazing and good portioned. Your traditional popcorn chicken with a glaze. Oxbone cream pasta: I also really like this. I do wish it was slightly creamier and thicker, but that's just my preference. Also good portioned as I think too much of this dish would've been too much and ruined the other dishes for us. Baby Back Ribs: this was a close second to being my favorite. Fall off the bone delicious. We were given wet wipes along with the dish which is a considerate touch. Seoul'sbury Steak: this was my boyfriend's favorite. He loved the grits because they were cooked with cheese and sooo buttery. I'm not a grits person, BUT I did think the steak was good. Overall, highly recommend this place. I loved the casual feeling of the place but think this is a solid choice for a girls catch up, for a date night and even a group hang out. I was too full for dessert but I'd definitely come back here again to try their other dishes and dessert!

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 This place has been on my to-go list for a while now. C as in Charlie styles itself as a Korean-Southern fusion tapas-style restaurant. It's a pretty popular place so would definitely recommend making a reservation well in advance (especially for the weekend). It reminded me of Mokyo, which I loved, and there was so much hype around the food here so I was excited to try this out. When you come in you're treated to a sake shot on the house. If you haven't been here before, the server will explain the menu, and we were told it's recommended that we order 2-3 dishes per person. Based on reviews, we ordered the crab soup, the oxbone cream pasta, and the seoul'sbury steak. All three dishes were good (I liked the seoul'sbury steak the most) but very underwhelming. As expected, portions were very small (the menu looks affordable but it's actually pricey relative to amount of food you get per dish) and the flavors were nothing new - I'm not sure I really picked up on the Korean part of Korean-Southern fusion. There honestly wasn't anything else on the menu that we were interested in, so we didn't order any more food. The desserts looked fun, but they seemed more gimmicky than something I was actually interested in eating. Overall, this place was fine, but I personally think it's overhyped.

Yelp
TLDR: Great place for casual korean fare with a twist! The crab soup is a must try but we were happy with all dishes ordered. The service was impeccable and our server was so sweet and accommodating.

Yelp
I came with my friend to celebrate her birthday and early bachelorette since we both really wanted to try C as in Charlie. I made a reservation a few weeks in advance for a Friday night at 6:30pm. I highly recommend trying to get a reservation since it seems like there was a decent wait time for people coming as walk-ins. The restaurant is small but has a very lively ambiance enhanced by neon lights and red hues. It had a very "night out", "club" aesthetic without the unbearable noises. Pretty fun place for a date or a hangout with friends! Our waitress was very nice and came by to explain the menu to us: everything is tapas style and she suggested 2-3 dishes per person, then told us about the family meal special which we ended up ordering (more on this below). She also brought us two shots of sake on the house which I appreciated and was a great start to our meal. We tried: - Toast Roll: delicious egg roll with giant chunks of grilled shrimp, topped with deliciously pickled onions and a delectable sweet chili mayo at the bottom. The egg roll itself was perfectly crispy, without being too flaky, and it was generously filled with large pieces of shrimp. The savory shrimp was well balanced by the refreshing and tangy onions as well as the sweet chili mayo. Not as oily as I expected which was also a plus. One of my favorite dishes of the night! - Popcorn Chicken: presentation was super cute! This comes in a popcorn box with generous amounts of fried chicken that strike the perfect meat to batter balance. A little less crispy than I expected but the gochujang glaze was addicting. Very generous portion of chicken. Was very happy with it. One is sufficient to split between two people. - Family Meal: the special for today was this "hot pocket" that had a very similar crispy batter to the toast roll but came so nicely presented in this wrapping with a fun message. It was filled with generous amounts of cheese and pickled tomatoes which just gave a divine balance of flavors and textures. It came with a balsamic glaze on the side which to me made it feel like an elevated pizza or a caprese salad. So happy we got it! - Mushroom Bibimbap: another hit! I don't know why I don't have more mushrooms, rice, and eggs on a regular basis.... The combination of the umami mushrooms, over a bed of fluffy white rice and with the silky egg on top was unmatched. Would come back exclusively for this! Favorite dish of the night. We were too full for dessert but they did offer us a banana pudding that you could draw on with food coloring (?!?)-- it seemed really fun and I definitely hope to try next time. Even though we didn't get dessert, they still had a small gesture for my friend's birthday and brought us another set of complimentary shots with a candle. Very cute! Overall, I loved this place. The ambiance is perfect for a night out, the food is comforting and incredibly delicious, and the service is wonderful. Random side note, but the bathroom is super cool too and has blue lights plus other interesting things like lollipops and a projector. Food was excellent and reasonably priced for tapas style. Would highly recommend this place!!

Yelp
So many restaurants in NYC are undeserving of the hype they receive, but C as in Charlie is not one of them! Reservations are relatively easy to snag, and we were seated a bit earlier than our reservation time. You're greeted with a welcome shot of sake, and a small yet delicious menu. I love trying a bunch of dishes on the menu, so the tapas style selection here was perfect. We had the Crab Drop, which was AMAZING!! It's a creamier soup, almost tasted chowder-like, but not heavy at all!! There was a good amount of crab in there too! I also loved the Oxbone Cream Pasta was also excellent- flavor was reminiscent of carbonara, but the green onion adds a great freshness. We were also able to try the Mushroom Bibimbap and Baby Back Ribs- also good, but didn't blow my mind like the first two dishes I mentioned. The dessert was a super fun concept!! They bring you a little squeeze bottle of paste/whipped cream, and you draw something on the banana pudding and get entered into a contest! It was super fun for us to do. Service was also amazing, everyone was soooo friendly. It's a smaller restaurant, but the noise and low-light make it a fun vibe for a dinner with friends or a date night. LOVED my experience, will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Overall rating: 4.7 I've been wanting to try more Korean food and I was very excited by the popularity of this place. I wish I did more research though because this is very much more fusion than Korean. In all of the reviews they also mention getting a shot when you arrive which my friends & I didn't get. I realized later on because it was one of my friend's bdays, we got the shot towards the end. The waiter was so friendly though and helpful for the menu. The area was very crowded and you can tell it's a popular spot. Ratings below: 1. Corn 5/5 - def get! 2. Ribs - 5/5 - really good! 3. Mushroom bimbimbap 4/5, goodish 4. Banana dessert 5. Popcorn chicken 3/5 - meh, not worth it 6. Oxbone Cream Pasta 2/5 - felt very out of place. This is just pasta carbonara. 7. Steak 1/5 - not at all as described & don't recommend. Food was ok regardless, just not the place for me.

Yelp
C as in comforting and candescent! I had such a great experience here with a small group sharing a few plates. The ambiance is unique (spoiler alert: might seem odd... but you have to check out the bathroom). The waiter we had was extremely friendly and actually brought us out three rounds of sake shots (on the house) throughout the night. He had recommended 2-3 dishes per person, but we opted for 5 total since we had ate a little before our 10pm reservation. If I were to return, I'd probably order a few more dishes. BEST dish= popcorn chicken, it was truly mouthwatering. Would love to return here!

Yelp
Great restaurant in Noho for when you want to have a fun night out, but also want some good food before hand. C as in Charlie is a small restaurant that features Korean/Southern-inspired food in small-plate format. The restaurant is covered in a red hue and the place doesn't take itself too seriously. Be warned that this place is pretty loud and has a party atmosphere, so don't come here if you want something quiet and intimate. I think the menu at C as in Charlie is pretty fun. From "Seouls'bury Steak" to an ice cream dessert that looks like a bagel, the food is pretty whimsical but execution was really good. Think the highlight for me was the crab drop soup, where the crab flavor came out really strongly, to the benefit of the dish. Our server did a great job walking us through the menu and had some great recommendations. We even got a free shot of sake as a parting gift which I'm never going to complain about.

Yelp
Usually fusion is a red flag but there is something matrimonious about Korean food and soul food. Has to be the collective struggle . Let's just start with the sweet tea! Baby I had 4 cups and I'm still trying to recreate it a year later. The chicken was beautiful and I was actually shocked with how much I liked the pasta. Chef Kiss and I'm definitely coming back whenever I get back to NY. It was a great late night vibe. I don't like banana pudding but the design thing was devastatingly fun. It's simple but delicious fair and the company you keep is key to a perfect experience. Plus free shots approved

Yelp
The food and service here are amazing!!! My favorite dish we got was the mushroom bibimbap (I forgot to take a photo bc I was so excited to just dive in) and I keep thinking about eating it again. Knocking off a star just because it was crazy hot in the restaurant so wish there were more fans or some AC, but otherwise it would've been a 5/5 experience. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This may be my favorite restaurant in NYC. I came in with pretty high expectations after hearing about it online, and my girlfriend came thinking she wouldn't like it cause we have completely different tastes in food. I made a reservation a couple weeks in advance for 7:30 on a thursday to celebrate my birthday. The inside is pretty loud but whatever it's NYC places get like that but just know they do have outdoor seating if that is a problem for you. Everything we got was amazing. They give each person a shot of soju on the house when you sit down and their sweet tea is a dollar and the perfect level of sweetness (as someone from the south that is shocking up here). We got the fluke ceviche, popcorn chicken, toast roll, crap drop and the pasta dish. The toast roll was a sleeper hit and just felt so comforting and the perfect bite with two pieces per order. The pasta was a favorite, like an upscale carbonara. The literal only notes I have was that the crab drop was sorta lukewarm but I still ate the entire thing it didn't even matter. Also, while the ceviche was good and I would eat it again, it wasn't super unique to other ceviche dishes so I would probably get something else instead of it next time I go. Overall amazing experience and will be coming back!
