The foods are good but not quite 5 Stars yet. The featured Banh Bo Hue tasted similar to the noodles from the the Hue and Danang areas. The menu is also filled with dishes from the central region of Vietnam.
We came to the Alhambra branch to try out their foods after we read fromYelp about the new and hot restaurants in San Gabriel area.
Upon the recommendations from the waiter, we decided to order a Banh Beo, the popular Bun Bo Hue without the blood cake, and the Bun Vermicelli salad.
The Banh Beo was very good. The flavor the texture of the rice cake matches very closely with the food from central Vietnam.
The Bun salad is kind of a miss. The pork came with the dish was chunky and bland. The tofu crispy skin was shot though. They nailed the texture and crispiness of the tofu.
Finally the Bun Bo Hue noodle. This dish is a popular Vietnamese soup containing rice vermicelli and beef. Huế is a city in central Vietnam associated with the cooking style of the former royal court. The dish is greatly admired for its balance of spicy, salty, and umami flavors. The predominant flavor is that of lemongrass. But here, I didn't sensed any lemongrass flavor.
Overall, the foods are not too bad. Definitely worth a try. There seemed to be many of my Vietnamese favorite dishes on the menu.
