The Ride-Along Report: First Takes From Last Night’s Dinner - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"What It Is: A pizza oven in a trailer, popping up regularly at Hayden and Tabula Rasa Perfect For: Date Night, Literally Everyone La Morra Pizzeria isn’t really a restaurant - it’s a portable pizza oven, built on the back of a trailer, that shows up on Tuesdays at Hayden in Culver City, and Thursdays at Tabula Rasa in Hollywood. We stopped into Hayden on a Tuesday, when the place was busy with people on dates or catching up with friends, and every table had at least one of La Morra’s fantastic Neapolitan pizzas. There are only five or so pizzas a night, with fairly simple toppings (Margherita, Funghi, Carbonara), but they’re close to perfect - chewy and charred dough, and just the right size to save a couple of pieces for lunch tomorrow. Verdict: Really fantastic Neapolitan pizza that’s worth seeking out. This is going on the Hit List." - Jess Basser Sanders, Brant Cox, Brett Keating

Yelp
"Staring at the ceiling... I can feel you trying doors I'd opened up before..." Down on the far east end of Hollywood Blvd where Thai Town and Los Feliz meet in East Hollywood you might find yourself at a hidden gem known as Tabula Rasa Bar, a little big wine bar with the beats, bites, sips and vibes you didn't even know you were missing. From 2pm until Midnight, 7 days a week - this casual chic romantic groovy intimate wine, beer and nom spot is serving up the best tunes, service and assortment of beverages with great food to pair it all with. Take a dip of the Hot Soft Pretzel, dive into the Pepita Dip (roasted pumpkin seeds), Kale Caesar Salad (large or small - vegan option available), the pickle plate, marinated olives, chili lime almonds and some many great choices to please your palate, "Play you however many times I want, yeah I'll play you like a slow song..." "I'll keep you spinning..." like the choice music, first come first serve seating inside, back patio or front patio overlooking the boulevard. With white, red, pink (rosé), orange, bubbles (sparkling), rice (wine aka sake), and spritz/aperitivos for by the glass options. Draft craft brews domestic + imports, not to mention canned or bottled options for an awesome range of lagers, ales, cider, stout, ipas, pilsners and then some. You're fully covered for a variety of beverage needs including some top choice non-alcoholic drinks like their Zero Riesling, Kally Berry Fennel, Pilsner and super Ghia Spritz. You'll feel welcome every time you step in, good wi-fi, clean and easy restroom access for customers. As Tabula Rasa would say, "When you're here, you're family." Very much open to all, live music on occasion, incredible DJs on Thursdays (my favorite night). It's a short stroll from the Redline Station at Hollywood/Western, very walkable, bike friendly, local street parking (see restrictions) and/or a convenient rideshare away. And how ever you venture to TRB, know it's always worth it and a cool place to be. Check out their Thai Town Bar Monthly Wine Club! And inquiry about hosting an event - birthday, college graduation and various occasion friendly.

Yelp
I'd be thrilled with this place, were it not for the service I received. It's in a great spot on Hollywood Blvd. with pretty easy-to-find parking on nearby side streets. It's aesthetically pleasing, sophisticated and airy. The drink I had (a vermouth spritzer) was a unique find on the menu, and quite tasty. However, the bartender was friendly only when trying to get me to order more drinks. I understand that bartenders adopt a façade of sparkling customer service to provide a fun, extended experience. It was just jarring that this particular libations peddler was so attentive when he thought I'd order another round, and when I said I wasn't sure yet, the smile literally dropped from his face and he walked away, ignoring me as I was adding a lighthearted comment (which pertained to my thinking about another drink). There were only 2 other patrons in the bar whom he'd just served, so there was no need to dismiss me hastily to serve a line of people. Of course, I know that he only cared about getting more business and more money from me - but someone skilled in customer relations would never make a guest feel this way. It's like riding Space Mountain with the lights on. I'll come back to give them another shot. It's unfortunate that a little rudeness, or carelessness, left such a sour taste to overpower a delicious drink.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect bar, great vibes, good service, bar seating, tables and booths inside plus like maybe 15 or so seats on a back patio. Great selection of wines including fantastic chilled reds and orange wines. Would absolutely come back

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night with a friend visiting from DC and we immediately thought, oh wow, as Elder millennials, we were not cool enough to be here. We saw a lot of 20 somethings which was fun to people watch. We each tried some natural wine and had a great time catching up. A nice cozy bar where you can actually hear who you're talking to.

Ben N.

Yelp
After initially placing a food and drink order at the bar (2 food items), we were seated and got out first food item brought to our table. After finishing the first round of drinks, I went to place a second drink order at the bar. I nicely asked the waiter if he can check on our second food item we had ordered to just make sure they didn't forget it since the first item had come out a while ago. He checked and said they're working on it and I said thank you. He asked how long ago I got the first food item and I said I don't know maybe 10-15 minutes ago. He then proceeded to say I was "full of shit". I was thrown off because I wasn't complaining or giving any sort of attitude. I just wanted to make sure they didn't miss the order. I couldn't tell maybe he was joking or not but it didn't seem like a joke and it was my first time interacting with him so it's not like we had a joking rapport. Otherwise the bar is nice and good vibes but that interaction threw off the rest of my night as I didn't feel welcome.

Yelp
Cute wine bar in Hollywood! It's away from the hustle and bustle that is Hollywood Blvd. There's a crowd, but you are able to get a drink quickly at the bar. Nice selection of wines and the sakes available are delicious!!!

Yelp
This place felt laid back early in the evening when I was there. I took advantage of the Monday night experience when you can taste grand cru wines by the glass. There is some street parking and some meters. Service was good but also wasn't memorable the way that some bar experiences can be.

Yelp
Another accidental find. Our local spot had a one hour wait so we left our car where we parked it and walked here instead. We were determined to have wine and didn't necessarily want to wait a full hour for a table. We also didn't want to drive again only to find no parking on a Friday night so we walked the 5 mins here. There was no wait here. We walked in and beaded to the bar. I stood back a d let my friend take the wheel. We walked over to the back area with our drinks thinking we'd chill there, but it was more for the smokers so we found a table inside instead. I'm not sure I figured out what the vibe was. The music was definitely loud. I'm sure it would be bothersome had the genre blasting wasn't to someone's liking. They were playing 80s so I was chill. One of the bartenders came over to drop off our cheese plate so my friend asked him for round 2 of drinks. He sarcastically snapped at her saying this wasn't table service and he wasn't her waiter so she needed to get up and go to the bar if she wanted another drink. I was kind of taken aback, but knew he meant well so I didn't want to make a big deal of it. He ended up taking our order before he went back to the bar. We did enjoy the two orange wines we got and the cheese board, but the experience as a whole did not make me want to come back. Additionally, there was a party right at the entrance who were so loud the lady next to them ate her food so quickly so she could bounce. She was dining alone and looked my way a few times to acknowledge the loud group next to her.

Yelp
I went here for the first time and had a great time. Very cute little wine bar ! The cheese plate is off the charts. perfect for a first date, or a casual hang :)

Yelp
come early on a Saturday, get a table, stay a while, leave before they start bumpin' music and it gets obnoxiously loud. this is a great first date spot if you like a first date that is a maximum of 3 hours long. this is a great place to catch up with a friend you haven't seen in a while. the anchovies gave me indigestion but everything gives me indigestion these days so i won't take it too personally.

Yelp
Have been meaning to come here for quite some time. Always a big fan of intimate wine bars like this (in the vane of Bar Bandini, Covell, El Prado) and Tabula Rasa made its cut as the newest addition to that list. Stopped by on the way home from errands on a whim, so did a solo walk-in. The bartenders were so friendly. All their wines are natural so they walked me through some choices, even encouraging some tastings of others while I was there. A private event was being hosted in the back patio when I was there but I snuck a peek and the space is adorable. Also loved people stopping in to buy bottles to go. They serve food and there are happy hour specials if you're there at the right time. Will definitely be returning soon.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance and service. Good selection of wines Tom is the best!!!! I love how comfortable it is to have work meetings or get togethers.

Yelp
My friend lives in the area and recommended this place- it did not disappoint! We've been coming here on a weekly basis for a glass of wine. I love the white wine selection and the interior has a cute vibe. It is certainly popping in the evenings- especially on Thursday and Friday evenings. Also, get the pretzel! It's so filling! On some days they have a vendor for smash burgers outside and those are pretty bomb!
google avatar

Daniela G.

Yelp
Such a moody vibe and a hidden gem of the neighborhood. Parking is tricky, so plan ahead if you're meeting friends. Meters available and street parking. Five of us sat in a booth, which was a little tight, so I wouldn't say this is the best place for groups. Went during happy hour and enjoyed a nice red. The bartender has a strong knowledge of the wines, so I appreciated that. Their happy hour menu is good too - definitely recommend the pretzel!

Laurie R.

Yelp
*Love* this spot!! The service: welcoming and attentive. Bottle list: solid, a variety of styles and price points from quality producers. The food: kale salad and Cubano both had such yummy flavors. Vibe: fun and very accessible. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
https://youtube.com/shorts/BjTPXwarRPM?feature=share Beautiful little gem tucked in east Hollywood I absolutely love the live jazz played on Sundays But the reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because although they do serve food, it's really not for everyone I'm sure the taste is amazing, but they only have like Cuban sandwiches (pork) and olives which just meh haha If only they had options like chicken breast, rice, pastas, or even just sandwiches that didn't have pork haha But anyways the drinks are great and the workers are nice! just so hard to enjoy when can't really eat here, not sure if it's worth adventuring all the way over for just a drink

Yelp
Great wine selection and tasty bites. Chill music with good ambiance. The bartenders are also knowledgeable and help you find the right wine.

Nirmal L.

Yelp
This was a great place to grab a quick meal and drink after work or right before hitting the town for the night. Main notes, great service. The bartenders are friendly and make you feel welcome. I tried a few of the food options and they were all great. The Cubano sandwich is one of the best I've ever had; a must have. What was interesting was they make their own mustard! And it's amazing! It's only beer and wine, but they make some good combinations that you don't get at other places. They have a large courtyard in the back with a nice ambiance. This is a good place for a date night, hang out with friends or just gray a quick drink and meal while you chill.
google avatar

Lani R.

Yelp
Today a bartender poured wine splashing on the hand and on the menu. The bartender didn't apologize for it. This has never happened before at any other wine bar. Please be kindly mindful when you are pouring wine and if you do splash all over your customer's hand and menu, please apologize. Thank you.

Yelp
Cool bar with a nice beer/wine selection in East Hollywood. They were busy on a Saturday night, but it was easy to get a table. They have a little wine shop in the back with a unique selection of wines to take home. Parking in the neighborhood waas a little tricky, but not impossible. If you're driving, do try and give yourself 5-10 minutes to find a spot!

Mack S.

Yelp
Great staff. Great feel to the place. A nice environment to bring a laptop in the afternoon. And a lovely chill bar at night.
google avatar

Yelp
Great wine great food and a welcoming staff The vinyl selection is fabulous. Highly recommended. Crazy good wine choices!
google avatar

Stuart B.

Yelp
I actually had a first date here. Was busy enough to be interesting but cozy enough to sit at a table and talk while we tried some great glasses of wine. In the heart of Los Feliz neighborhood. Charming and fun place with a curated selection of good quality. organic and natural wines
google avatar

Yelp
We had our team holiday party last night here for 10 people. It was a blast! The ambience is so warm and gorgeous, wine selection is interesting and the happy hour is a great deal. Nicole took care of our whole group and we had an excellent time. I'd highly recommend this spot for a date, a big group, or just catching up with a friend. It's hip while also feeling really laid-back. Hard to find that relaxed vibe in Hollywood!
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Came for the wine, although they only had 3 whites on the menu? We added the Cuban sandwich to our order, although it came out burnt on both sides. They don't appear to have trained cooks. The bartenders made our food at the bar, preparing it with their bare dirty hands. It wasn't a pleasant experience to watch, or eat. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back here.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
So rad. My new fav spot. They play jazz on vinyl, very nice dimly lit atmosphere with some Brooklyn-esque exposed brick, I had the scarcarello?! I think. Red very up my alley, full bodied, tannic but still good balance of fruit. Also it's open till 2 on weekends?! As a wine bar ?!!! Game over. Love it
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
You've "refunded" my item based on a yelp review. Do you have my credit card information to actually do such a thing? Are you searching through recent transactions involving gluten free crackers, searching furiously for the "Emily" that bought them so you can refund me $4? I don't care about the money. I care about the quality of what I'm paying for. I'm fine paying hundreds for a delightful meal and brilliant red wine. I'm not ok with paying $50+ for a glass of mediocre red wine and a flimsy excuse for a charcuterie tray. Also, for the gen Z folks loving this place. When you buy a charcuterie tray it should include utensils, and not look like flat meat bought from the local Ralph's. I'm sorry, but refunding me $4 for your "artisanal" GF crumbs does not make me dislike your eatablishment any less. As I said. Overpriced, underwhelming.

Yelp
I love this place it was a cool vibe in Hollywood which is a hidden gem. Enjoyed the wine and the vibe will be back

Bobby H.

Yelp
The staff is really awesome. Friendly and nice. Beer and wine tasty. Just fyi It's loud as F+{*]*]*] in here people. So get ready to yell to whoever you go with. I would recommend sound baffles- a 200 fix which would cut the noise down some. Also they were out of the Cuban which limits what you can actually have for dinner. Web site shows pizza but that's not on the menu anymore. Sand that stuff thumbs up!
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
Amazing vibe! Would recommend for dating! This is the perfect spot. Incredible wine! They have good selection too! Food was delicious!!! Everything was perfect! Definitely coming back for drinks!
google avatar

Fernandine F.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood bar. Jazz on Sundays, wine tasting on Wednesdays, and a record player with great tunes. The sommeliers are super nice, and it's a great place to go and just read a book and decompress. I went here on a first date once, and it was magical. They also had a "Sip and Scribble" night for a bit, for sipping wine and doing art projects. Would love to see that come back!
google avatar

Samantha A.

Yelp
I've had this spot on my list for what seems forever because I am rarely in Thai Town. I was in the area today and had to kill a bit of time so I decided to stop in. Tabula Rasa has very unique wines such as the Porta del Vento Sparkling Orange and Chilled Roug'e Claire Grenache. What I loved most was the Cremant D'Alsace Domaine Gross Sparkling wine and amazing service from Meg. I will be back for sure :)

Suzanne S.

Yelp
Cute with very friendly staff, but the wine is hugely overpriced. The beer is also a little high but not crazy for LA. Love the tree of life on the exposed brick wall.
google avatar

Fabian M.

Yelp
This place is unnecessarily LOUD! The wine was fine, but it wasn't clear you need to order at the bar. We sat at our table for quite a while and no one approached us.
google avatar

Molly S.

Yelp
The kindest, chic-est neighborhood bar ever. Somehow it's both elevated date night spot and perfect every day hang. The staff behind the bar are always eager to give wine suggestions and samples. I've even given them prompts like "I want a red that's dark and good for when your tummy hurts" and they've absolutely nailed it. Nothing snobby, nothing too expensive, just gorgeous wines and atmosphere. I'm saving up to by one of their cool T-shirts too...but I keep spending my budget on lovely glasses of wine and hot pretzels instead!
google avatar

Grace A.

Yelp
This place has nice ambience (low lit, a little moody and cozy) when it isn't at full capacity. They have a broad selection of wine and beer, and some really nice food options (the charcuterie board gets two solid thumbs up). Overall I think this bar is pretty great and super convenient as far as neighborhood spots go-- the only thing I dislike here is the inability to hear anything as soon as there is a crowd/full bar. I know that's kind of inevitable, but wine bars should have a quieter vibe (and many others in town do). Seems like someone on the staff should adjust the music lower as more people cram in, since everyone was shouting over the music anyway.
google avatar

Keith H.

Yelp
I have the great fortune of being in near distance to some great wine bars, but Tabula Rasa is my favorite neighborhood option for several reasons. First, I'll start with the casual yet stylish vibe of the place. From the lighting to the wood furniture, this bar is both inviting yet with an air of mystery and intimacy that makes it great for either a casual meetup or a romantic date. The back patio is also an excellent place to host small groups, though be warned: you may get a whiff of secondhand smoke if you're out there. The happy hour offers a great selection of wines by the glass, and the food menu offers some tasty small bites. I was most excited to try the pretzel, but my favorite item so far has been the Cuban sandwich. This meaty delight combines roast pork, ham, cheese, mustard, and a spicy relish that I found quite tasty. Finally, the service has been topnotch during all of my visits, and when you find a friendly bar with friendly staff, it deserves repeat visits!
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
Finally the perfect wine bar that is all ambiance without the pretentious vibes that are so common in our city. A beautiful space with great staff, great music on vinyl, cool female djs on a Saturday night and a more mature crowd. Isn't it a blessing when all the patrons act right? Maybe I'm getting old... anyways... Everything is offered at an excellent price point. They even have a happy hour that is more affordable than any I've seen in recent memory. Not a ton of food as this is a wine bar but everything we ordered was an excellent addition to the wines we ordered, you can tell these people know what they're doing. Don't miss out on the olives and the sbuckgliato!
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Came for happy hour on a Tuesday. The vibe is chill - very neighborhood feeling- a perfect place to have some win and get some work done. And the drinks and food are solid. We had the olives which were warmed up which was a nice touch. Also had the famous Cuban sandwich ($7) which was a tad greasy but it came with some spicy pickles which were delicious and honestly I'm a sucker for any sandwich that is toasted and crunchy. Lastly I ordered the pickle plate because I didn't have enough pickles for my sandwich but it unfortunately didn't come with the pickles that came with the sandwich but instead pickled carrots and fennel but it was still very good and I finished off the plate.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Love the vibe of the bar, love their beers and wine, and love the music playing in the background from the record player. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Cassidy A.

Yelp
I have lived in Los Feliz 2 years now and tabula rasa is the spot. Great bottles, great service, great food. I often go to grab a few bottles to go and just ask the staff what is good based on the general tastes in wine I have. Good deals. Patio in the back is lit. Thank you for your service, tabula rasa.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I came here around when it opened with my wife and a good friend, and we had an awesome time. The ambience is intimate and tranquil. The wine was awesome. It was an amazing experience, and I will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
Neighborhood bar! THE AMBIANCE: Brick walls, hipster decor, live music, good crowd, dog friendly, vinyl record playing, patio in the back. Very cool spot. My only complaint is that the bathrooms are an ice chest! Good for summer, not good for winter. THE BEER AND WINE: They have a nice selection. I've been going down the list and marking off what I like and don't like.
google avatar

Allan D.

Yelp
This is a bar where everybody knows your name. They have a kind, friendly, and knowledgable set of people behind the bar. The food is on point (burger FTW), the beer is cold, and the art on the wall is on point.
google avatar

Diana W.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood wino bar with beer selection on our block!! They also have snacks/food. Its been getting busier and catching on. Came on Saturday night maybe around 10pm and all the seats were taken. But folks come and go at different times, so you'll possibly find a seat. Small outdoor smoking area. Service: Very friendly. Local watering hole. Not pretentious. Chill atmosphere. Your bartenders are dressed causal. Crowd may range from late 20s - early 40s? Still a hip place with the music and atmosphere. Been waiting for this place to open and watching it develop since the first Los Feliz neighborhood council meeting notification a year ago about it's planning, zoning and historic preservation committee for stakeholders living close by. Will there be a live band at some point?? Notification stated possibly bands playing here? Located in Los Feliz, borderline east hollywood with Thai Town. So it's a fun stroll around before or after. Block away from other popular bars like Jumbo Clown room and Harvad & Stone a block west. This place is also across from delicious drunk Thai food across.
google avatar

Yelp
I appreciate Zach and the team that's still making it happen through this crazy period. They are giving it their all and making sure we don't only have interesting wine in our lives but personality to go along with it. Keep it up and can't wait to cheers you all on the other side of this thing!
google avatar

Bianka G.

Yelp
quaint, cute, and collected. Great curated selection of beers and wine. My friend and I shared a large bottle of strawberry lambic. We also ordered the plate of peanuts with pickled veggies and the philly cheesesteak sandwich. The peanuts were really tasty because they were drenched in that pickled juice and the sandwich had a generous helping of meat and was large enough to be split between the two if us. The night that we went was also Pizza pop-up night so thats pretty cool that they have daily specials. You never now what surprise you will get. Our server was a tad too possessive when it came to using their pen to pay the bill. He kept telling us he needed the pen back, like multiple times. Which made it awkward for us. We were taking our time and he kept coming around trying to get his pen. Haha buy some more pens! Anyway, cute little spot if you find yourself in Thai Town just looking to relax and take a breather.

Yelp
Truly, this place is a gem. The staff is so kind and helpful, and the non-alcoholic beer and wine options offer the non-drinkers among us a special experience because they're delicious and so well-crafted. The vibe inside is so pleasant and chic, while also still maintaining neighborhood vibes. Really recommend!

Yelp
I had the best date of my whole life here! Perfect date spot. Magical place. Just go and you'll see what I mean!
