I was really pleased with our breakfast from 5800 North last weekend. I ordered over the phone to pick up and it came up just before I got there. We ordered a skillet, omelet, kids' pancakes (I upgraded to the berry mascarpone ones for an extra $2) and because I was curious got the cinnamon role pancakes even though I knew we wouldn't be able to eat much of them.
The omelet was really good. It wasn't all that much different from any other omelet but I appreciated that they had a create your own option (which a lot of places don't, surprisingly) so I could get what I wanted without having to delete or add something from an existing item and hoping they got it right. Thanks!
My little one was THRILLED with her pancakes. When I got home and put the bag down she came over and saw them and immediately pulled them out of the bag, and got pretty upset when I pulled them away from her to get her seated. But when she finally got to eat them she gobbled them up, going straight for the fruit. I tasted the mascarpone and it was quite good; I'd consider ordering this dish for myself in the future. And this was a huge item, to the extent that I wondered if they took the order wrong and gave us the regular "adult" portion (but they were smaller silver-dollar pancakes so I think it's just big).
The cinnamon roll pancake was as I suspected far too much but we had to give it a taste. It wasn't bad. They make it with something like the frosting from a cinnamon roll (maybe that's exactly what it is) and dusted with cinnamon. It wasn't bad, but I'm not sure it's my thing. Points for creativity and originality!
The restaurant is very bright, sparkling, and spacious--you don't feel like you're elbow to elbow with the next table, thankfully. There's even a small parking lot down the block. There's some street parking and it's even directly across from a Pace station (we're in Edison Park, so Pace buses run up here). The first time I visited it wasn't overrun with patrons and there was no wait when I stopped in on Sunday around 11, so I'd be interested to eat in sometime. The second time I visited was to pick up breakfast for Mother's Day, and I ate less than half my omelet because I kept finding eggshells in it. Gross and makes me sick to my stomach, so that was a major miss. I'll be back... probably.
