Bars and Restaurants to Try in D.C.’s Shaw Neighborhood | Eater DC

"This unassuming, underground cocktail lair that started out as a word-of-mouth destination in 2017 has risen as a reliable date-night destination for well thought-out cocktails and live jazz on Thursday nights. Drinks carry simplistic names like “Mezcal,” which adds passion fruit, carrots, sage, citrus, and ancho chili to the agave spirit. A cozy interior framed with fireplaces and a lived-in look joins a newer back patio full of polished wood and colorful graffiti." - Tierney Plumb

Yelp
Cozy cocktail bar. My type of place. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable, attentive and simply nice. I've visited a couple times and really enjoyed the 'hump day' vibes (open mic night and happy hour). I really like the cocktails especially the Better + Better which surprised me. I'll definitely return for a cozy, vibey night!

Yelp
Nice drinks and ambiance - very cozy! Worth a visit - you'll need a reservation on a weekend, but you may be able to walk in on a weekday. They make unique drinks, classics, and also offer a variety of spirits, which is nice.

Yelp
Have you ever been in an area and never knew a speakeasy was there? I've walked past 600T so many times and had no idea. It's truly a hidden gem! It is extremely cozy downstairs! I love the mood in here, the decor (check out those amazing paintings in the bathroom), and the music is always such a vibe. Oh and for the jazz lovers, every Thursday they have Jazz night which is such a blast! From the moment you walk in, until you leave, the whole staff ensures you are taken care of. The host took our jackets to hang up which I thought was really sweet. The waitresses are all very attentive and very patient. Sometimes me and the girlies get carried away talking and take forever to order, but they never rush us. The bartenders know exactly what they're doing. Every drink I've had has been so good! Sometimes I don't know what my mood is or what I want to order, and the bartender takes the time to recommend a drink and I'm just wowed! Some of my favorites: - Sotol Smash -- it's seasonal, it's delicious, and refreshing - Espresso Martini -- this is the drink I always start with! Gets the night going and I really like the anise in it - You're kinda loud -- I was a little hesitant about this one because I'm not a big scotch girl, BUT it's really balance with the passion fruit, honey, ginger. Just wow! Sooo good! So good I order multiples - Sage badleaf -- becoming one of my go tos and I usually tell my friends to get it too! They're constantly adding more to the menu which I love! There's always some new to try. Make a reservation and check them out! You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
This is a place that needs to be visited and appreciated. From the fantastic cocktails to the quick easy and delicious snacks everything is top notch.

Yelp
Hidden gem in Shaw! Intimate space that is like a cozy pub. No food, so eat beforehand. Drinks are expertly crafted. The bartenders were able to direct me to exactly what I wanted and were able to describe the drinks' heaviness and mouthfeel extremely well. They truly know their menu. Can't wait to come back on another weekday for their happy hour and more relaxed vibes.

Yelp
A friend suggested checking this spot out, so I went ahead and made a reservation... easy! We arrived just 5 minutes after our time... in the daytime, you can see small letters that say '600T' on the side of a building. I can't imagine being able to see that at night! Respect for the efforts to be hidden. My friend and I were the first to arrive, and we got taken to our table immediately. It's a basement bar that's not too bright, not too dark, and the vibe is just great! I asked for a drink that's not too sweet and spirit-forward, and it didn't disappoint -- but sadly I don't remember the name. The second drink was the Tequila, which I would've realized if I really read the menu, but it came with crackers topped with whipped cheese... it was a spectacular flavor profile! It was around this time that my other two friends came, and they were taken care of almost immediately... nice! I wasn't really hungry, but I later ordered their donuts... because donuts! These two warm small sweet potato donuts came out and they were DELICIOUS! I wanted to split them with my friends so I cut them in 4s... they did fall apart a bit. They were so good that I wasn't even mad that they were $8. There's a lot more I can say, but you need to just check it out yourself. I really enjoyed the ambiance, the drinks, the food and the staff. Everyone was really friendly, even while being hard at work. I recommend reserving in advance. Depending on other reservations, there may be a time limit on your table (at least 2 hours), but you may not find out right away.

Yelp
Moody speak easy tucked away in Shaw. The drinks are great, the bartenders are excellent, and there is Jazz on Thursday!

Yelp
Ended up trying a few drinks and sampling their live music. The live music was really nice and enjoyable but The drinks tried her as First one: espresso martini, this was okay. Had a little bitter taste and definitely got the espresso Trader Vic Mai Tai . This one was my favorite of the night definitely a slow kind of buzz that you get from it and it's a pretty powerful drink. Better and better: This one was a terrible drink. I normally love mezcal but I hated this one It actually ruined my even Snacks consumed included the mixed nuts which were coated in heavy butter. I wasn't a fan of it. I did like their spicy popcorn. Service was fine. We ended up waiting over an hour for a table and were able to sit for about 40 minutes before close. You really need a reservation cuz the seating is so small. Did not use the bathroom. I'm not sure I would be in a rush to try this place again but I'm glad I crossed about my list.

Yelp
Booked this place because of all the good things I've heard and we wanted to get some after dinner drinks. We had a reservation booked at 8:30 PM and we were running 20ish minutes late but they were nice enough to keep our reservation . When we first got there, it wasn't obvious where the entrance was until I saw the stairs. We got in and did an ID check and the bouncer pointed us to our four top. The place isn't too big, very intimate. It was a little louder than I expected for a speakeasy. Someone came and brought us waters and took our drink orders not too long after we sat down. We ordrered a Willett Reserve neat, the Last Word, an Espresso Martini, and the Rose Quartz. They were busy this night (a Saturday) so it took a minute to get all the drinks on the table. Very solid cocktails. I got the Espresso Martini and it was way more than just coffee and vodka like how some places do it. My girlfriend got the Last Word and she was a big fan. The table's favorite drink was the Rose Quartz. Even though it was Spirit Free, it was very refreshing and the flavor was balanced between sweet and sour. I think I would probably prefer to come on a weeknight just based on how busy it was but it was a cool experience nonetheless.

Yelp
The vibe of this place and the pictures on Yelp/ Tik Toks created DO NOT reflect the actual quality of the bartending here. Its like I came to a completely different place. First, I would like to saw the two gentleman, I believe one was the manager, were very accommodating and polite! They let us sit anywhere inside and then offered to show us their back patio to play our own music at a low level. We opted for that option at first, but soon returned back inside due to the heat. Once we were inside a new waitress waited on us with red hair and she was very soft spoken, not very polite and didn't seem knowledgeable on the menu. The bartender was standoffish and looked like she was in pain while working. The drinks reflected her attitude and tasted disgusting. They were both watered down with no flavor at all. I was very disappointed as the drinks online looked amazing and carefully crafted whereas ours weren't even filled to the top of the glass and were luke warm. These two drinks pictured costed us $43 and I wish I would have just left and returned both as they were the worst drinks i've ever had and nothing like what you see online.

Yelp
This is an awesome hole in the wall spot if you love great craft cocktails done right. The ambience and vibe is very much speakeasy, low lights, and it's a tiny spot so make sure to get a reservation. Love that 600t has a wide variety of drinks on the menu, and everyone who works there is highly knowledgeable about different cocktails and spirits. Service was great and we chose to get a few cocktails (Espresso martini, Whisky martini, sazerac, and boulevardier to name a few), and what I love most is that you can really tell that these bartenders craft each drink artfully. Highly suggest this spot and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Nearly impossible to find, nestled between Howard theater and 7th, this craft cocktail spot definitely knows how to make a drink! While seemingly small when you first walk in, a short walk past the bathroom brings you to an outdoor enclosed patio with more space and natural light! We enjoyed an assortment of drinks off the menu-which we learned cannot be customized or changed in any which way. Service was a prompt, the server was clearly proud of his job and knowledge of liquor. It may sound silly, but the nuts and popcorn we ordered to share and snack on were also great!

Yelp
Smaller bar. The entrance is hard to find but a cool space once you're inside. It's a little loud due to the proximity of all the guests however the service is quick and the drinks are tasty. There's a couple of snack options but limited. Overall, a fun spot to catch drinks after dinner. Make a reservation. We got lucky and walked in for 2 people but it seemed rather packed for anything larger than 2 guests.

Yelp
I hate reviews that do not experience the location, but I want to give a fair warning to people that want to walk over for post dinner drinks. We've tried three times at different times of the evening and security would not let us in even though we waited for ten minutes and groups of people were leaving as we waited. They told us the wait was 40 minutes but there was quite a lot of space inside. Not sure what their profiling is but not worth walking there or wasting your time without a reservation. They also don't answer the phone if you want to call prior

Yelp
Great atmosphere and amazing drinks. Dope music and everyone is super cool. Toilet covers rock.

Yelp
Really fun speakeasy with great vibes and even better cocktails! I love all the highballs, but especially the vodka highball. Jazz night is so fun, but definitely need to make a reservation.

Yelp
600 T is a whole vibe. The music is on point and their cocktails are well-prepared. I have been here for their Caribbean food pop-up with Dougie's Backyard and for their live Jazz nights. I love the intimacy of the venue and how low-key it is. I love their Vodka Cooler, which is Blackleaf Vodka, Hibiscus, Pineapple, Clove, and Lemon shaken together for the perfect sippin'. Their roasted nuts are so good to snack on too! Last time I got, we ordered 2 rounds of them. There is no pretension here and it really is a space to enjoy the music, spend time with great friends, and sip on craft cocktails. Definitely keep an eye out for their events via Instagram.

Yelp
So you know those special places that make you feel like you're in a movie... or New York City... or in a movie that takes place IN New York City? This is that place for me. I felt so cool sipping my artistically made and crafted cocktail while talking with my friends about politics and Coachella. The staff is SUPER nice and dare I say it..... cool. Like the kind of cool that makes you ask "am EYE cool enough to be in here?" Their cocktail menu is very imaginative, and if there is something on their that for some reason you would want MORE than these perfect drinks that they have, these artisans know how to make practically ANYTHING. A cute date ducked off from the hustle and bustle of U St and Florida Ave, a night time meeting of a couple friends catching up, or even a lowkey break from... again... the hustle and bustle of U St and Florida Ave... This place suits ALL occasions! Go sooner than later!

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in DC. Been on a handful of first dates here and always had a good time. Maybe the date didn't turn into anything, but you know what? I had some damn good cocktails. Ambiance is great. Intimate, cozy, and somehow polished? The at least half dozen or so times I've been here I've always sat outside. So I'll have to sit inside someday. Back patio is great. Super cute with high tops and nice lighting. Seats out front... not the best. But that's mostly because of the ruckus Shaw can have. The drinks. On menu is great and there is always bound to be something that catches my eye. That said, I love how talented the bartenders have been with a few prompts. I'm simple. Spicy (most of the time) and mostly tart, not sweet, and mezcal/gin. I get a drink that is gorgeous and tastes great. The staff is always super nice. Like you're chillin on a patio with friends sort of vibe. This is where you go if you want a good drink. I don't know why. For the life of me. That I can never remember it's 600 T. It's the freaking address. I always get the number wrong, but if you say it's next to bar techo, that usually does the trick.

Yelp
Such a great spot! It's tucked away just a bit in an area with high traffic (both foot and car) but once escorted in, you'll be whisked away. The space is cozy and intimate, both the indoor bar as well as the back patio. It is dimly lit and seems to walk the balance between an earlier period splashed with modern accents. The music playing had a nice little beat to keep the energy lively without having to raise your voice or strain to have a conversation. The cocktails are creative, unique and sophisticated in an environment that still manages to feel unpretentious and service was great. Although we didn't have reservations, you might want to make some just to ensure that space is available. Overall, this is such a lovely little find and I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Me and a couple of friends came here after dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Saturday night. We had a reservation which definitely helped because it was pretty busy when we came in. It honestly didn't look like much on the outside, but when you enter it has an inviting cozy atmosphere. It definitely gave me speakeasy vibes. We got the Sweet Potato Donuts to share and I got an espresso martini. The donuts were really fresh and warm when they came to us and the texture was really chewy. Everyone in our party loved them so much that we ordered another serving. My drink was the perfect balance between vodka and espresso. It wasn't too overly sweet (which a lot of places can usually mess up with) and I could taste the cacao flavor. It is pretty small for what I paid for so it's on par with other cocktail bars, but the quality was definitely there. I believe they have weekly special events going on as well but I haven't been to those yet. I will have to check those out next time I come here. It's truly a hidden gem in DC and I highly recommend for a girls night out or date night!

Yelp
First time here. Got stuck in DC traffic and end up running 20 min late. Our reservation was given away. We were told that we could be at another table for less than an hour or sit at the bar for as long as we needed to. Sat at the bar, order first drinks and snacks. Order second round and we're told we had only 20 minutes and we had to fee up the space. we said we had just ordered so we were just going to have to cancel the order "you don't have to, you have 20 minutes". We didn't want to have to rush thru our drinks so we just left. Not a pleasant experience. Stars for the live music and decor.

Yelp
We had such a fun time! The bartenders were fantastic. The place has a great vibe and delicious cocktails. We were planning to come back until we found out the 20% gratuity that's automatically added on does NOT go to the bartenders. That is such BS. They earned every dollar of the gratuity. Unless the place changes that policy, we will NOT be returning. It's a bait and switch on the menu prices. The owner has some nerve basically charging more than what the menu states. This has to be illegal. Change the policy or we won't be back.

Yelp
Love this place! Had a mini bday celebration here w/the ambiance! Cute little drink bar with the best sweet potato donuts. I ate 6 lol. Great customer service!!

Yelp
Great service, attentive to detail (asked if left or right handed), lovely to watch cocktails being made at the bar. A little too dimly lit and no signs on entrance so we almost missed it! We loved the drinks. Because we were seated at the bar, we were right in front of the bartenders, who weren't so keen on small talk. Overall a really great date cocktail bar!

Yelp
Hidden gem alert! 600T is an intimate and cozy cocktail lounge nestled away in the Shaw neighborhood. Upon arrival, we were greeted by staff and seated immediately at their back patio. We loved the colorful mural covering the walls, giving off a vibrant energy. In addition, we were impressed by how clean the establishment was. Our waiter, Kelvin, was super friendly and explained the menu to us. He checked up on us frequently and made our visit a memorable one. Their drinks are super unique and strong. The bartender pays great attention to detail when crafting each cocktail. Our favorites were the Mezcal and Singani Ice (highly recommend!) Overall, we enjoyed our time and will be making 600T one of our regular spots! @dcfoodgod

Yelp
Amazing find! Very unassuming entrance which is great but as soon as you enter this place has big personality! They had live jazz when we went which really made the beat a little more upbeat and fast paced, usually very laidback otherwise. The drinks are amazing and have lots of different dimensions - I went with the guava passion fruit and zibib and it was incredible (bartender said it was her fav) We also got dealer's choice which I highly recommend if the menu gets you a little overwhelmed The bartenders were also super friendly and helpful so don't hesitate to ask them for advice! Really great and not pretentious speakeasy - will be back here definitely!

Yelp
The entire staff working on 6/7/24 were super friendly... amazing service and great drinks!

Yelp
Where to even begin...... I was in from out of town and it was my first night in DC and so glad the doorman from El techo recommend this speak easy next door. The Pros: the customer service was like no other! The hostess made sure he worked out a seat for us which was amazing! The cucumber lime water at the time of arrival was another refreshing perk. The Drinks were all so carefully thought out and created for us, that you couldn't t help enjoying every sip you took! The live RnB Jazz was another plus! Staff were all so attentive with refills! I could go on and on! Cons: it's small so you have to be lucky to get a seat! That's all I can say was bad! Amazing spot to check out if in town if you can find it! I would go back any time Now that I know where it is! Perfect Speak Easy set up!

Yelp
First time here and can not wait to return! I'm a big speakeasy buff and this place has been on my list to visit for a long time. It's great they have outdoor seating, but for the full experience make sure you sit inside. Cocktails are well made masterpieces and the staff is amazing. We enjoyed the Grappa, Rum, Rum, and absinthe refresher. All were delicious (and great for insta pics!) and the Rum was particularly good for the summer. We only tried the popcorn - but as a popcorn lover it was great!
google avatar

Kirk S.

Yelp
This place is one of the great cocktail gems of DC. 600 T is basically an unpretentious cocktail bar with small amounts of seating. Make a reservation - this is not a sort of walk-in place. This is definitely more of a date/conversation place than it is a party place, so don't expect to roll in here and do vodka shots. Pretty much everything here is great, so you can't go wrong. Every single cocktail I've tried here was not only a great representation of its underlying liquor, but it was also just good - and that's something that's not always the case with many cocktail bars. You could pretty much order randomly off the menu and get something tasty. In fact, even liquors that normally scare people off (e.g., absinthe) are represented well here.
google avatar

Memuna E.

Yelp
Such a dope vibe in here. We didn't have reservations but the host let us enjoy one drink before we had to leave for an expected group which was perfectly fine. I ordered a dirty martini and it was perfect. Will definitely come back here with a reservation for a night of great drinks and great company.

Yelp
First and foremost, our waiter Yared was awesome. Customer service makes or break an experience and the customer service here was great! He was very attentive, knowledgeable, lovely personality, friendly, and looked like he just enjoyed being there. The drinks were DELICIOUS- very unique, and crafted perfectly. The music was nice and mellow, very nice space in the back, and clean. We will absolutely be coming back- can't wait to bring my friends when they come to visit. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Fantastic cocktails of great variety, warm and welcoming ambiance, great staff who were helpful with drink selections. A true gem in NW DC. Make sure to make reservations! Liquor choice ranges from Vodka, Whiskey, Bourbon, Gin, Mezcal, each with their own special concoction and presentation. A great location for a date night or a friendly meet up to catch up with old buds! There is both indoor and outdoor (patio in the back) seating. I think in the spring and summer the patio would be nice, but winter, definitely choose indoor. There is also a beautiful fireplace with a table for two in the corner, I would definitely go for that if you don't mind the heat.

Sncklvr ..

Yelp
Definitely a super cool and cozy vibe especially if you go on Thursdays for live jazz. I will say that it doesn't really seem to matter if you make a res or not because there will inevitably be a wait and it seems to be first come first serve? Drinks are all pretty small and expensive - around $20 for anything. Overall though it's super worth it to go for live jazz and milk your $20 drink to sit, listen, and chat for as long as you can.
google avatar

Giovanna P.

Yelp
We thought we'd swing by at 5:30/6 on a Friday night thinking we'd beat the crowd.. (we didn't know you needed reservations). The gentlemen at the door was super nice - we asked if we could sit somewhere for a quick drink & leave so he let us sit at a table whose reservations were In an hour. We were super appreciate. Enjoyed 2 wonderful martinis & asked for the check when the drinks were brought out. The cocktails & watching the gentlemen make the cocktails was mesmerizing. We really appreciated this quick drop in & will be back again .. but this time with a reservation

Yelp
600T is hidden gem that I've passed by on countless occasions, but had no idea! I went to 600T for the first time last night and loved it's character and it's rustic and authentic feel. I had the Espresso Martini which was absolutely delicious. The service was great and everyone was so nice. This is a cocktail bar I will definitely be adding to my list and I look forward to going back.

Yelp
First time there. I was visiting my son and he took me. This is the kind of place that you hear about through word of mouth. On Thursdays, when we went they have amazing jazz and watching the bartenders make the Craft cocktails is fun on its own. They are really skilled at it and they pay meticulous attention to detail. I will definitely go back when I am in town again.

Yelp
This was truly an otherworldly experience!!! Amazing, unique and confident cocktails. Outstanding service. Romantic aesthetic. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere and drinks, friendly bartenders, and they take reservations. Glad this is just down the street from me

Kimberly M.

Yelp
It is a craft cocktail bar, so you will pay more for drinks. But it's my favorite craft cocktail bar. Compared to other prices down the road it is cheaper as well. The drinks are very good too.
google avatar

Drew D.

Yelp
Hip atmosphere with an intimate vibe. Service was truly amazing. Drinks were delicious and nicely decorated. Look forward to going back there.
google avatar

Yelp
Really fun drink experience! The tables in the back patio are really unstable though so watch out for that. One of the drinks was spilled just because they were super wobbly. It also takes a while to actually get your drink so be prepared to wait but they're incredibly inventive and a lot of choices to choose from!
google avatar

Yelp
Ahhhh! I love this place so much. It would make a great date spot, but it's honestly just a great spot regardless of who you're with and why you're there. I came with a friend in advance of an event she was hosting at 600T, just to test the place out. The drinks are all bespoke creations that are prepared meticulously and (for craft cocktails, anyway) quickly! If you want something off-menu or just want to give the bartender a sense of your taste, you can also get something more personal. I honestly loved the on-menu items and thought they were creative and unique enough on their own, but if I were more of a regular I might try to find out a signature drink for myself by talking to those amazing bartenders! I loved sitting at the bar and watching all of the drinks being made. The glassware and space itself has all of these really personal touches--some of the items in the space are handed down from a grandmother--and the ambiance is just really warm and cozy. Be warned: it looks like you're heading into someone's basement and the space isn't suuuuper well-marked, so don't be too scared to go downstairs and head on in. I wish my brain was better with names, because my bartender was INCREDIBLE and so, so kind. I wish I could give him a shout-out for his excellence. The event my friend hosted there also went swimmingly, so if you're having a small get together (it's not a huge space) I'd recommend it. Regardless of why you want to go there, actually, just go there.

Nassim G.

Yelp
This is a gem! Either on a gentlemen hangout or a date, this place got the right vibes and cocktails. The owner David is very welcoming and attentive to details, the crew is professional and friendly. Few snacks on the menu, so make sure to eat before you head there.

Yelp
Cozy wood-cabin speakeasy with a warm fireplace and craft cocktails. As the basement cellar bar opened up a year ago, word has gotten around fast! Make a reservation, come early, or be prepared to wait! I'm glad my husband and I finally got around to checking it out with a small group of friends - worth the wait! After getting here around 11pm on a Friday night, we were put on a wait list and patiently waited a solid 2 hours until we got the much anticipated text that a spot for 5 finally opened up at 1am (we went around the corner to Right Proper and grabbed a couple of drinks in the meantime!). The Bourbon is the best cocktail on the menu. Of all the cocktails that everyone ordered, the Bourbon was my favorite! The honey, charteuse, lavender, bitters all blended really well together with the bourbon. Highly recommend it! The owner, Stephen, is really friendly and chill. After our table has closed out and the bartenders were clearing everything out, he made me a nice cocktail with some bitters and bourbon. It was really good! Nice guy! I love the homey feel to this warm cozy cabin with exposed wood beams and wax candle on the tables. The space is pretty cozy with bar seating and a few tables. Truly a hidden gem in Shaw!

Yelp
I would for sure make a reservation before coming here. The drinks are AMAZING Sitting near the bar is an experience. You see the fresh ingredients, down to the manually shaved ice. As a bartender, I appreciated the art of a nicely crafted drink Not many food items, we ordered pretty much everything on the food side except the jerky. Not pictured is the popcorn which was also a tasty treat Def a place to be!

Yelp
A tiny little almost speakeasy-like spot in D.C.! I went on a date here and it was the perfect ambiance. No frills, just drinks. There was a really nice bouncer at the door controlling volume of people coming in so it kept the area nice and breathable considering how small it is. It looks a bit bigger in pictures, but trust me, it can probably fit 20 people max comfortably. I liked that it was small and capacity-controlled because I could actually have a normal conversation without shouting across the table. Perfect place for a chill date! I ordered a Moscow mule, which was a bit too limey in my opinion, but the other drinks I tried were better. My date had the Old Fashioned and that was pretty good. We also tried "bartender's choice" and by far, I think that was the best choice. You choose a "taste" (i.e., sweet, sour, spicy) and a spirit...then the rest is up to the bartender. I'm not sure what he mixed, but it was really darn good! The waiter was really accommodating and really knowledgeable about all the drinks on the menu. They all dress up to fit the feel of the place, which made the experience all that more interesting! I will definitely be returning again in the future!

Yelp
I really didn't want to review this bar but since 47 people already have, I guess it's not a secret. It really has become one of my favorite cubbyholes in DC. I've been 4-5 times and have, consistently, enjoyed myself. It gives speakeasy vibes: there's no real name, it's hard to locate, the lighting is dim and the entrance is not on ground level. In fact, you really get the sense you're walking into someone's home...and you are doing just that. The owner, who's super nice, turned his basement into a really cool bar. In fact, he crafted all the features inside - from the bar to the stools to the bathroom doors - all handcrafted. The drink selection is also solid. The menu has a nice amount of craft cocktails but beware, there's no food. So either gobble some goods beforehand and stumble out afterwards and head next door for tacos. Another thing to note, it's small. Like half a basement small which makes this a perfect place for a date (especially in the colder months since there's a wood burning fireplace with a seating nook for 2). I'm sure he still uses the rear basement area for private use but the bar portion can comfortably accommodate about 30-35 people so go early.
