The Best Restaurants in Jersey City | Eater NY

"This newish Chinese restaurant offers dishes from Shanghai and Sichuan province. The dining room is dressed up with modern flourishes such as formidable tables, silkscreens, sconces along the walls, and teak accents. Dabble between cuisines, with dishes like pork-and-chive dumplings, Shanghai meatballs with salted egg yolks, lobster mapo tofu, noodle soups, and more. It’s BYOB. — MM" - Melissa McCart

We happened to notice spot opening one night as we were walking to another restaurant. Good thing we added it to the list because it was spectacular. The food was very unique and authentic Chinese. I had the Spicy Hot Pepper Chicken and it was for sure packed with spice. In my opinion it’s a great dish for sharing but not as an entree. We also had the sesame chicken and the steamed dumplings both were fantastic. May have been the best sesame chicken I’ve ever had. Needless to say this place was a hit and we will be coming back!

This place is amazing!! We ordered the Peppercorn Rib Eye, Gold Soup, and the Beef Scallion pancake. Everything was super delicious. The food is amazing and our server Cindy was so kind and she even gave us the delicious jasmine tea to go!! Thank you so much 😊

Oh. My. Jebus. I found Shanghainese Pork and Cabbage Noodle Soup on this side of the Hudson. And it's not only good....It's EXCELLENT! Yes, yes, the dish by which all Shanghai restaurants are judged is XLBs. We didn't get them (*horrified gasps*). Instead, we ordered this noodle soup because it is my personal Shanghai culinary litmus test--and 62 SK passed with flying colors! The noodles were kiu kiu, the pork was buttery tender, the mustard greens were delightfully crunchy--and most important of all, the broth was an umami nirvana. I'm going to throw hands: 62 Secret Kitchen's version surpasses Nan Xiang's, Din Tai Fung's and most of NYC's Shanghainese restaurants. It's that good. Everything else we got was stellar too. The Fresh Chicken in Wine Sauce (AKA Drunken Chicken) was tender and succulent. The Shanghai Meatball with Salted Egg Yolk (AKA Lions Head) was perfectly braised, though a tad too sweet for my liking. And the savory Sauteed Blue Crab with Rice Cake was that perfect dish to ward off the lingering early spring evening chill. Throw in the lovely modern yet traditional Chinese decor and friendly, attentive service (despite the place being packed), and you've got what's easily the best Chinese restaurant in downtown Jersey City. 10 years ago, a restaurant like this probably never would've survived in the area. What a difference a decade makes....

My parents and I visited 62 Secret Kitchen on the first day of 2025, and it was such a great experience! The crab with rice cake and chestnut chicken were unexpectedly amazing. This is definitely a place I’d return to. The service was excellent—our waitress anticipated our needs before we even asked. I also loved the unique design of the chopsticks with disposable tips. Be sure to check it out before this newly opened spot gets too popular!

Wow my new favorite local Chinese restaurant in Jersey City! They recently opened up a month ago and I finally had a chance to try. The food and portion size was great value. Everything tasted very authentic and was made with fresh ingredients. The highlight of my dinner was the Peking Duck! We also requested if they could make us a traditional steamed fish with scallions…and wow did they actually do it! It wasn’t on the menu and they had the ingredients to make this for us. This is another level of hospitality you don’t find often at many restaurants. My friends and I left full and satisfied. I’m looking forward to bringing my family here soon!

Great atmosphere! Superior service. Love the reusable chopsticks with disposable inserts. Nothing like a heavy duty pair of chopsticks 🥢 i ordered the pork soup dumplings and the handmade cabbage & pork dumplings. They both came out fresh, hot, and delicious! Great lunch specials and nice portions but on this rainy day this was the ultimate comfort food. I look forward to trying more from here! Also the tea was perfect. House tea can sometimes be too strong (concentrated) but this one was great. 👍🏾

It was very delicious! The menu had both traditional and more American options as well. We loved the egg and beef soup! Cindy was very kind :)

The $35 Fresh Chicken with Zucchini is this size, seriously?! It is even less than the appetizer. Because we take out?
