If you're looking for something relatively inexpensive, quick service and short wait times - this is a great spot! Although they are overshadowed by some of the more popular restaurants near them (KST), overall this is a no frill but good selection options. Their menu is expansive and relatively affordable as you can find many options below $15 which is a steal!

Came here with a large group. Had high expectations, but thought the food was mostly just fine. The good - Hainanese Chicken - Beef Rendang - Curry Chicken - Kang-Kong Belacan The OK -- I love these dishes in Malaysia, and they just didn't get them quite right. I probably have high standards with these. - Penang Choy Kway Teow - Hokkien Mee - Roti Canai - Satay

Got take out here and had really high hopes for the restaurant but came away a little disappointed. We got the Satay Tofu, Roti Canai, Water Spinach with Bean Curd, Haianese Chicken, and the Beef Curry. My favorite was the Beef Curry and Water Spinach, though I would say there was a bit too much skin and fat in the Beef Curry for my liking. The Roti and Tofu were pretty solid, especially when paired with the curry and sauces. The Water Spinach was okay, though I definitely have preference for the Chinese-style dishes. Price was around ~$70, which isn't bad for the amount of food that we got, though I would say it's on the pricier side of Chinatown eats. Overall, the food was not bad but didn't meet my expectations. If I come back, I would want to do sit-in to see if the experience would be different.

The restaurant was able to seat 3 of us with minimal wait on a busy Saturday evening. In my opinion, this is the perfect level of casualness for a restaurant. While service is really quick, you still get some nice decor and above average cleanliness. The waitress was very enjoyable to interact with (although she definitely egged us on, or overestimated our eating abilities, into order way too much food for just three people. We got: - salted yolk fried shrimp - half a hainanese chicken - roti canai - curry beef noodle - belacan The fried shrimp was a stand out. The crustaceans were swimming in yolk. The Belacan has shrimp paste in it which is an acquired taste that thankfully I have acquired. Everything else was good but not particularly notable. The portion sizes were colossal. I had delicious leftovers for the following days. I would definitely return

I had such a craving for Malaysia since there isn't any in Long island and since I Haven't had malaysia food for awhile now. This was perfect! Roti 2x Curry beef stew with ho fun and wontons Stir fry ho fun

The chicken satay was really good. The meat was tender, juicy, and had good flavor. The only complaint is that the peanut sauce was a little more liquidy than it traditionally is. The Chinese broccoli and beef rendang were both solid. I personally don't prefer rendang. My partner said there was nothing to complain about but nothing to make them different from what you would expect or get at most other SE Asian restaurants. The vegetable was sautéed as expected. Quick service but we came around 8:45pm Friday, which is close to when they close at 9:30pm.

I grew up on this location back when it was located in the tunnel on Elizabeth St! This spot is definitely one of the better Malay restaurants in Chinatown, but I do feel like it used to be better. Regardless, I still had a decent experience on my visit. We were seated right away for a party of 2 on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered their classic Hainanese Chicken over Rice and Pad Thai. The Hainanese Chicken is a staple to get, as their nostalgic recipe never fails. The scallion ginger and red chili sauce pair nicely as well. Their Pad Thai was just ok this time around. It lacked the sweetness of a typical Pad Thai and it was more salty than sweet. It almost tasted just like regular chow mein, but perhaps I just got it on an off day. FYI they charge a 3% fee for credit card. Staff here is very attentive and there's a good amount of seating in this restaurant. Shall come back to try their other classic Malay dishes.

Came by for lunch and this space is much more spacious and well lit compared to their previous location in the alleyway. I got their fried pearl noodles and chicken satay. The satay had just the right amount of smokiness to it. The star was definitely the pearl noodles. I loved the addition of seafood, the noodles had just right amount of chewiness but not too thick. The dish's wok hei flavor was on point. It was so much food that I had to get the rest to go. This is a great spot for Malaysian food in the city at decent prices. Will definitely be coming back if I'm in the area.

This Malaysian restaurant has been operating for many years..previously it was in the Bowery location. The Malaysian food here is always good. We normally come here when we want to have Malaysian meal. The service is very good too friendly staff.

This is a very solid Malaysian spot with generous portions. We were seated immediately on a Friday night (always a bonus) and here's what we ordered: - Satay Beef: This was probably my favorite dish of the night. Unlike most satay I've had, there was a sweetness to it that really elevated the dish. - Indian Mee Goreng: A solid stir fried noodle dish that wasn't too salty, and was a relatively neutral dish that paired well with the rest of the meal. - Beef Rendang: While it initially just looks like a pile of sauce, there is actually a decent portion of meat. The beef was very tender and the sauce was tasty, but not too overwhelming. Food came out super quickly and surface was very efficient. The entrance is pretty low-key so I walked by it about four times. There's only one restroom but it was clean.

The staff is pretty friendly. We came in around 5:30 pm on Saturday and there was no wait. The roti canai - there was only one small pancake, the curry that accompanied it was quite good. Baby oyster omelet - This is totally an unfair comparison, but I had this when I visited Penang, Malaysia and it was soooo much better there. It just didn't taste that great. Princess Tofu - most regretted dish. IT was just a lot of gravy and mostly fried tofu. The seafood seemed somewhat fresh, but there was very little of anything else. Char Kweoy Teow - I also had this in Malaysia and this is okay, but it doesn't seem to have the "wok hey" passion. Probably won't return.

This place has been on my list for awhile! Glad that I was able to try it out. Ordered the prawn noodle soup (not pictured) general tsao chicken and the curry dish. (Not pictured as well) Curry and the prawns dishes were my fav. Loved the prawn soup noodle but be careful if u don't like the sea smell. We also ordered appetizers. Service was okay, pretty busy place but they did pack the left overs for us which I really appreciated

This place looked packed, so we decided to eat here on a thrusday night. Service was very fast. Food for me was okay, nothing extraordinary. Portion was also big and price was reasonable too.

This restaurant suprise me of how good their food is. I was here on Sunday, and when I walked in, I saw lot of ppl dine here by themselves. That when I know the food must be good for ppl to come by themselves. I order a beef curry and roti. Their beef was so soft and melting in my mouth, it has a lingering coconut taste. Their portion was good. Very reasonable for the price. I didn't try much, but look like they have a lot authentic Malaysia food! The waiter was nice and efficient, they don't refill my water, but it's understandable since the restaurant is very packed. This restaurant looks quite small inside, so if you are looking for excellent food, and busy vibe. This place is for you

Absolutely love this place. I never realized this was the one from the tunnel until recently and I've always gone to them when they were in the tunnel. It is a lot more modern and spacious compared to their previous location. I'm so happy that they're still open because everything here is so rich and flavorful. I always have my go to's but even when trying something new like their "old town fried noodles" (it sounds better in Chinese) I was blown away. You can taste the "wok hei" in this dish so well. Their curry noodle soup is always spot on. Broth is so dense and rich and pairs so well with the noodles. The hokkien mee and let's not forget the infamous Malay sauce with a slight kick. YUM. I also just got their red bean icee or "coconut red bean snow ice flakes." This is a must if you like red bean desserts. It's perfect on a summer day. Honestly, I've been wanting to find this drink since this one location use to sell it but then closed down. (Which was a long time ago) I'm so glad they offer it here. I'll def be back!!

Good Malaysian option in Chinatown. It was quite busy when we visited during a weekday lunch. Menu is quite extensive, with all of the regular Malaysian options. I ordered an Indian style noodle dish (can't recall the name). I actually didn't taste that Indian to me, but was still tasty (similar to pad Thai). I also tasted some of the Nasi Lemak, which was good (especially the coconut rice). Big portions, and reasonable price.

The smell of the Penang Prawns noodle soup hit me before I got a taste. And let me just say, it's exactly what I want when I envision a giant bowl of asian seafood soup bursting at the seams with flavors coming from the ocean. And don't even get me started on the noodles... egg noodles-where have you been all my life? You will not be disappointed by the portion size here. The roti canai was delicious although you'll need to order a few if you have a group.

Waited around 45 mins for a table on a Saturday (though it was Lunar New Year, so the area was especially crowded). My boyfriend and I shared: + Hor ka sai - amazing, I want this drink all the time + Roti canai - perfect + 1/4 Hainanese chicken - great + Penang asam laksa - little sweet, not my fave + Nasi lemak - great Service was good and overall it was a super solid meal. Would return!

Ordered delivery through Grubhub but it got delivered directly by the restaurant. Got delivered quickly and accurately. Really good portions for the appetizers! The curry for the Roti Canai comes in little cups with lids. Roti was both crispy and chewy. Curry was flavorful with a little bit of heat. The chicken in the curry was tender. Satay chicken skewers were delish! Had that nice grilled taste. So much flavor. A little sweeter than expected, but our fave of the night. Chicken wings were good. A little dry, but good flavor and still tender. Not sure if we'd get this again though. Will have West New Malaysia on our list for our next visit to NYC/Chinatown! There's a lot more on the menu we want to try!

Rainy Saturday 5-7PM. The dinner rush is 7-9PM. Princess Tofu The flavor was on point-- not too salty or oily! You can tell the tofu was deep fried ahead of time but fresh, ahead of time! Perhaps $21.95 for only 3 shrimp in the whole dish is the only complaint? Also, it is a little pricier than other Chinatown establishments.

My family's favorite Malaysian restaraunt, we've been coming for years, even at their old location. We got the asam fish head curry every time, and it is filled with flavor. This last time we went though, the chicken rice was soggy and too wet which ruined my meal. But I will definitely give them another chance because I love the curry.

I can't recommend West New Malaysia. :( the restaurant was cramped and overpriced with mediocre food at a way too expensive price. I was surprised the restaurant had such a long wait time. I was not a fan of the Hainanese chicken but my friend who is Malaysian did enjoy this dish. I thought it looked very unappetizing with squishy chicken skin and relatively bland. You also have to order rice separately as these do not come automatically with each dish. The beef randang was ok but not amazing. The best thing on the menu was the roti canai (crispy and flakey) but it was super expensive. Only 1 small circle with the side sauce for $8+ is insane. But I think sadly this is NYC!

I have not been to the new location since the restaurant moved but since my friend never had Malaysian food, I decided to give them a try to see if the quality I know have changed. Arriving at 2pm-ish the place was busy, but they were able to clear a table and quickly seated the six of us. Initially look shows that the place was clean, fairly newly decorated and similar in size. They have two storefronts that makes up the restaurant. In order to try as many things, my friends agreed to do family style at my suggestion and we ordered 3 appetizers, a rice dish, a noodles dish and 4 entrees. It was a feast. The wait staff were very helpful as we needed changed plates, forks, and knives through the meal. They checked on on us and ensure everything is satisfaction. Everything was delicious and well prepared. Highly recommended the Sarang (stir-fry in a taro nest), Hainese chicken, curry beef brisket, any of the fried flat rice noodles, and roti. I forgot how good Malaysian food had tasted. Definitely coming back here.

Solid Malaysian spot with affordable prices and good portions without sacrificing flavor. We stopped by around 7 on a Wednesday night and were seated immediately. We got the Choy Kway Teow, Curry Combination on Rice, and Satay Beef to share. The Satay Beef was cooked perfectly with a nice char and paired well with the satay sauce. I was craving curry beef brisket and the curry combo really hit the spot! The curry was flavorful without being overly spicy. The beef was so soft and tender that I was able to break up the pieces with a spoon. The chicken was just okay, a little overcooked in my opinion. I definitely enjoyed the beef more than the chicken. The Choy Kway Teow came out a lot later than the other dishes so I know its fresh fresh. The burning sensation on the roof of my mouth during that first bite was also a good indication of it being recently prepared. This will be my new go-to spot for Malaysian food in Chinatown.

We went for an early dinner on a weekend and we were able to get seated easily but I think as dinner time comes around the place does get pretty busy. Whenever we go to a Malaysian restaurant we usually get the satay beef, fried pearl noodles, and tomyum noodles...and that's exactly what we got here too. Amazinggg all around but my favorites were the tomyum noodles and fried pearl noodles. The satay beef was a good appetizer but I thought it was pricey for 5 skewers, but again still good. The fried pearl noodles had that good "wok hey" flavor. Idk how to explain it but I love getting this type of noodle it's really QQ ~like chewy~ The tomyum was my favorite this time around though. For me it was the perfect balance of sweet spicy and sour. Loved it! Loved this place and 100% recommend -great for sharing with everyone

Food is pretty good, i like they have veggie options. Last time I got the roti and the curry noodle soup which I recommend! I enjoyed the tofu satay and they gave a big portion. Only thing is last time I ordered hot Malaysian coffee, this time the server seemed new but she was very dismissive when I asked about hot options, she said only cold available and eager to just walk away. I said what about tea and was able to give me hot tea, another server said Hot coffee is available too. Overall most of the staff is friendly, and very quick service.

(Char Kway Teow: B) - Their char kway teow is impressively steaming hot and full of flavor for takeout. The shrimp is overcooked, but everything else is quite nice. (Roti Canai: F) - I really like the intense flavor development in the curry and the hard work devleoping those layers in the roti. Unfortunately, there are shards of chicken bone in the curry that make this dish quite dangerous to eat as someone could chip a tooth. Years later and in a smaller, fresh environment, the food it serves has not changed. It's consistently delicious. I ordered the curry braised beef noodle soup. I had to take half home. $13 before tax and lasted 2 meals. This coming from someone with a big appetite. I recognized one of them male waiters from the old location. He was respectful of my Mom, when she asked if there are wontons in wonton soup. The waiter said, of course there is. Separate bathroom for man and woman. Well kept, but I was here after the lunch rush. I'll definitely pick this place for curry noodles.

Delicious Malaysian food in the Chinatown area! Loved the roti canai and curry in particular. We got a greens dish but it had a little too much fish sauce than I was used to. The soybean milk was also so creamy and freshly made - might've been my favorite thing.

Incredible malaysian food!! We made a reservation for a large party on a Saturday night and got seated right away when we arrived. Our favorites: indian Meegoreng noodles, princess tofu, and chicken curry with roti on the side. Great food, attentive service, and clean restaurant!

Their beef curry noodle soup is to die for!!! Get the wide rice noodles! They make it with coconut milk so it's very rich!

I stopped by for a late weeknight dinner. This place was lovely and full of people. The restaurant is clean and bright. The service was quick and the food came quickly as well. We ordered the tofu satay for appetizer (but it was the last dish to come out). The satay was ok but it looked a bit messy, not a dish to write home about. The Indian mee goreng was my favorite dish. It is flavorful and perfectly balanced with a lot of shrimp. The beef brisket curry was good with a lot of meat but a bit too oily for my taste, it's served on a hot pedestal but there was definitely parts that were cold... Honestly I came because it has good reviews and is Michelin bib gourmand but it's pretty disappointing for a guide recommendation. The service was quick and the food was ok.

I came here for a big family lunch and we ordered a BUNCH of items because there were so many we wanted to try. There were some really delicious dishes and some that I would recommend skipping. Get: Roti Canai, Curry Stuffed Combination Soup (flavor was so great and soothing), Beef Rendang (great flavor and so tender) Skip: Hainanese Chicken (this was honestly kind of dry and not impressive), Indian Meee Goreng (didn't love the flavor combination here)

Food (3/5): I've been here before and the food was much better. Perhaps because we came close to closing. I ordered the curry combo and combination noodles. The broth in the combination noodles was good but the toppings inside could've tasted better. Service (4/5): I'm going to be a bit lenient overall because we came 30 min before closing with a group of 7 and they did a good job of being reasonably patient and helpful. The food came out fast but unfortunately a few of our dishes didn't have necessary ingredients (e.g. chicken) so they had to be subbed out. Ambiance (4/5): Spacious restaurant with tons of seating. Seats are reasonably good and I like the wood decorations. However, the place isn't super themed or decorated.

Seems like a solid place, but I wouldn't come back for the Hainanese chicken. Maybe we should've ordered the Hainanese drumstick instead of just Hainanese chicken over rice, but the chicken had way too many bones. It looked a good size but I hardly got a satisfying bite without bones. It's a bummer because the rice (super generous portion) and sauce are so good! Maybe I'd try the drumstick or another dish here.

Passed by so many times and finally stopped in to try. It's always pretty busy so I figured it would be a nice spot for all things Malaysian. I was half right. Hainan chicken was disappointing especially since there's only a handful of places in NYC that does it right. The chicken was tender and moist but lacked any explosion of flavor. The Hainan rice it was paired with even more sad, not enough oil from the chicken. Some sections of rice was barely yellow. Sad. The best dish was the Hainan and Curry beef Brisket Combo I got. The curry flavor was very good and the sauces they provided on the side was the sweet chili and ginger scallion which I used to pair it with the light portion of chicken. The beef was not tender all the way through, needed another minute or two on the stove. But the flavor was satisfying. Fried egg was too well done for me. Skip the vegetable fried rice ... Nothing special, soy sauce based and it was loaded with vegetables. But it was reminiscent of take out fried rice just with lots of ingredients. And a tad oily. I wish wished they cut the vegetables to a better size, some pieces were way too large given the variety offered. I may have ordered simply but at least it was an overall economical dinner for four. Air conditioning helped.

Malaysian food is the closest thing we have in New York to Burmese food, so my family ate a lot of it. It's definitely in my top three favorite cuisines, with its breadth of aromas, flavors, and textures. The smoky wok smell of a char kueh teow is as addictive as the aromatic flavor bomb of a roti canai. These dishes scream childhood to me, and I grew up going to West New Malaysia's old location which was located in the pedestrian alleyway between Elizabeth St and Bowery. Taken out of that alley it has less of that hole-in-the-wall, Chinatown's best kept secret feel, but I can't hate on how much they've stepped their game up in terms of ambience. Overall, I found the flavors of the dishes to be less punchy and aromatic than what I've had at other Malaysian restaurants, but I'd still eat here over a lot of other restaurants in the neighborhood. Dishes of note were the crispy taro nest with seafood, satay chicken, kang kong fried with salted belecan, crispy prawns with salted egg, char keoh teow, and the roti canai. All our food came out quickly, on pace with many of the other fast paced kitchens in Chinese restaurants. Our server also offered some recommendations for dishes as well as amount we should order for our group. Usually I like to end a meal at a Malaysian restaurant with their shaved ice dessert, but I was so full by the end of my meal I decided to hold off for a future visit, which is bound to happen again this year.

FIRE MALAYSIAN FOOD!! The beef brisket curry is going to be something I dream about!! Also got 2 dry/stir fried noodles that were flavorful and not too heavy! The Haines chicken was soooo juicy and moist!!! Loved every bite of every dish!!! Went with a medium size group a little after the lunch rush on a weekend and only waited 5ish mins for a table. Do yourself and favor and come here ASAP!!!

This restaurant has been around since my dad was a teen and the food is still quite delicious and tasty. The roti canal is a great appetizer. The pancake bread is flaky and when it's dipped in the curry sauce, it's just a really wonderful flavor. It's not too spicy but enough flavor. If you run out of things to dip, just save the sauce for your later dishes and mix it in. We also ordered the Penang chow kway teow without shrimp and it was a very tasty noodle dish. It's quite a large dish so we shared it between two people and both of us were quite full from it. The only downside about this place is that if you pay with a credit card, they automatically charge you a fee which is quite ridiculous but somehow common. So if you can, bring cash with you.

I usually don't go into Malaysian / SE Asian restaurants in NYC with too-high expectations; my experiences have usually been either inauthentic or way too pricey (or both!). Thankfully, West New Malaysia proved to be a rare exception to this rule, and I am really quite happy to have tried for myself this gem in Chinatown. I came for a weekend lunch with a friend - we got there around noonish, and while we were able to get a table immediately it was definitely quite bustling for the entire time we were there. We started with the roti canai - nicely fluffy and crispy while still being very light. The curry chicken had very little chicken and very many potatoes which was unfortunate (but acceptable since I love the braised potatoes in curry). A bit pricey for the size since there was only one piece, but still yummy regardless. We also had the curry combo rice (with chicken and beef) which was so delicious! Portion size was very large, and it came with generous helpings of tender pieces of beef brisket (I think that is the English word for 牛腩?) and gently-fried chicken, with a wonderfully aromatic curry sauce. Finally, the Indian mee goreng was fantastic - noodles were yummy, shrimps were well-cooked, and the rich curry (with just a hint of spicy in the background) was substantive but without weighing down the noodles. Overall flavour profile was very authentic, and unlike the aunties at the hawker stalls in Asia who are very disgruntled whenever I ask, the server was OK with me not wanting bean sprouts lol. Would recommend this for sure! The cherry on top was that it was really so inexpensive for such a large amount of food - for the two of us it came out to be just over $40 in total (and we still ended up with a bunch of food to dabao for later :p). Really great experience and will definitely be back!

Came for lunch and seated quickly on a weekday. Ordered way too much food but everything tasted flavorful and authentic. The roti canai is a little thicker than normal, but the curry chicken it came with was rich in flavor. I've been to Malaysia and the Belacan here was very close in taste. Definitely worth ordering. The noodle with brown gravy had the smoky wok flavor to it, which I liked. Hainanese chicken with chicken rice (they also offer Jasmine) was solid. Last but not least, the curry beef. Yum, came piping hot with its own burner and also very delicious. Compared to Nonya, I like that this place is a tad more casual. Definitely a great place to try Malaysian food!

Place is clean. Staff are always there for you , food is delicious. Not very long waiting even when busy. This is my second time coming back. Definitely coming back again .

Came here on a Thursday evening with friends, got seated immediately, and our food came out quickly and was pretty flavorful! We got the princess tofu, curry chicken, roti canai appetizer, and udon stir fried noodles. My favorite was probably the roti, it was delicious and the curry it comes with is the same as the curry chicken, so get the full dish to save some money! Very affordable spot overall to share dishes with friends or family.

Great pork chops. Recommending to have them with a glass of beer. The service was nice and attentive. The place overall is a nice spot for a date night or hanging out with friends. Side note - usual wait time is going to be around 30m during evening hrs for 2ppl so plan accordingly.

The boiled chicken was tasty. The curry was just okay. The rice was underwhelming. I recognize that this might be a Malaysian institution in New York City considering it's been around for a long time. But I wasn't particularly impressed with the dishes enough to come back when there's a plethora of options in New York of delicious places to eat.

Delicious hidden gem! Came here w a group of 7 Monday ~8pm and was seated immediately. The food was amazing. We got some beef and chicken satay--the flavoring for both were great but personally enjoyed the chicken more bc of the texture. The roti was really good. Also got the house special, which has both the beef curry and the Hainan chicken. The curry was great, but the Hainan chicken took the spotlight. The chicken was so tender and juicy, it was perfect. Will definitely be coming back for more.

Very good Malaysian restaurant. Casual ambiance. My partner and I ended up waiting a while to get seated, it was a full restaurant. I prefer Nyonya's flavors overall. But this roti beats theirs by a long shot! The roti is super buttery and flakey. It is a must order. I was craving hainan chicken. But I always have to order Malaysian curry. I saw on the menu that the home style combination over rice serves both! I was over the moon. However, I was a little disappointed when I saw how little hainan chicken is given. If they upped the portion of the chicken on the combo I would be so happy.

Pretty nice spot!! The servers were super attentive to our big table (party of 7)! A lot of these dishes were a first for me, but they were all pretty delicious! My favorite was the Indian curry appetizers and the okra dishes!
