The 25 Best Restaurants In Koreatown

"Open Market is a hybrid cafe-corner store on the bottom floor of an office building, where you can stroll in for a coffee, pastry, or bottle of wine. But what differentiates this Ktown spot from every other cute, trendy mini-mart is its one-of-a-kind sandwiches. From the “Alhambra” Hainanese chicken salad to the “Mariposa” with al pastor-style mushrooms, each one pulls inspiration from a different area of LA. Our go-to order is the “Normandie, “a juicy brisket sandwich with pickled radish and scallions that tastes like the lovechild of a classic French dip and a bowl of beef noodle soup." - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins

The 21 Best Sandwiches In LA

"Open Market is a hybrid cafe-corner store on the bottom floor of an office building in Koreatown that happens to serve food so good it’ll make you squeal. This counter-service spot is open for breakfast and lunch, serving things like lattes, pastries, salads, and one-of-a-kind sandwiches. From “Alhambra” Hainanese chicken salad to the “Mariposa," filled with al pastor oyster mushrooms, each one has a personality of its own. Our go-to order, the “Normandie,” is without a doubt, one of the single best brisket sandos in the city. It tastes like what would happen if a classic French dip and a smoked brisket flat had a baguette sandwich child. " - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins

The Best Sandwiches in Los Angeles, According to "Sandwich King" Owen Han

"Olympic "This is a Vietnamese-inspired lemongrass chicken sandwich, but they add crispy chicken skin to it—little bites of flavor bomb. I've done crispy skin in a few sandwiches that I’ve made, but to see a place that sells sandwiches like that…that's sick. They're using a fresh baguette, too. It's packed with a lot of flavor. And to get a Vietnamese-inspired sandwich that isn't a bánh mì is also pretty rare to find, so Open Market kills it with that." - brennan carley

Google
A little bit of everything can be found here. They have a nice selection of grocery products that range from generic brands to more high end brands. You can find supplies for the bathroom and kitchen. Alcohol, tobacco and the lotto are sold here. The prices are a little more expensive for the convenience of the store and also the location being right in the middle of the Historic core. I like their fresh cut fruit. The ladies who work there are super nice. Once the watermelon wasn’t going to last more than a day and so she gave me a discount on the fruit. You might luck out on street parking out front but it’s more of a local walk up spot.

Google
Disgustingly, rude and racist people working at this establishment as a cashier. Had an awful attitude when I asked her what the price of each of my items were, because they’re overcharging people if you don’t pay attention to the price.!!! Highly recommend avoiding and going a couple blocks down to a different convenience store! I definitely plan on reporting to the Better Business Bureau!

Lawful Treatment

Google
In California, convenience stores can charge sales tax on purchases, but they cannot add a separate fee or surcharge specifically for using a credit card. This means the tax is included in the total price displayed, and businesses can't charge an additional fee on top of the listed price for credit card transactions. I don't appreciate paying high prices and then being hit with a 50 cent surcharge it's not lawful to do this ... And we won't mention under the register either .. This place is always complaining about it's rent is due wth does that have to do with running a clean lawful business.. You either treat us fair or some legal action is coming soon.. Your charging more than the man that brought this store alive.. It's disappointing that this is the case the man that started this store was a honorable man. Did good business and cared bout his regulars.. I'm sad writting this but he never did wth yall are doing.. And we all suffering but it doesn't have to go down like this . Plz fix this ..

Google
I love this store!!! They literally have everything, it is perfect located, you can find snacks, beverages (any kind), cleaning supplies, coffee, cheesecakes… and the workers are the best, they always have the best attitude, definitely coming back

Google
They charge fees to your credit and debit cards, which is illegal in the State of California. I will be reporting this violation. They also have several products that they have taken a black marker to. Be careful of these items they may not be true products.

Craig Cochrane

Google
Check the expiration date on everything you purchase. They sell expired products. If you do purchase something, their policy is to make you come back repeatedly until the cashier who sold you the product is there and take it up with them, if you even remember who that is. You can see expired packaged goods on the shelf (in this case, Tostito's corn chips). The strange smell is what prompted a look at the expiration date, a visit back to the store, and a look at the other product on the shelves.

Google
I always call this place my little market away from my home market. Very convenient place to buy fruit, snacks & house hold goods when needed. It is very conveniently located by my bus stop heading home. Robert the store counter clerk & most likely the proprietor is very courteous & friendly. I always have a pleasant experience however; I have to contend occasionally with the Zombies aka homeless individuals now and than who are either strung out with that zombie stare or panhandlers who frequent the area. Well okay LA, there you have it for 6th street market

Google

Yelp
I like this store so much!!! They have everything I need and the cashiers are super nice, one time I was asking for a brand of bread I love and they brought it the next week, they have great variety of smoking accessories too, definitely coming back to this

Yelp
Liars and thieves. I walked in and asked if there was a charge to use my credit card, the guy said "$.50 under six bucks". So I bought the expensive organic milk to avoid the fee. When I checked out, I said, "so this is just eight bucks, right?", and he said "yeah". And I said "and there's no tax because it's milk right?", and he said "yeah". And then I said "so the only charge on my card is eight bucks, right?" And he said "yeah". I actually got all that recorded because far too often I deal with dishonest merchants. I got all the way home a few blocks away and realized that he had hit me with some other charge that put me closer to nine bucks. I went all the way back over there, and after he said it was the credit card that did it, not him, I told him I had it all recorded, exactly what he'd told me--and that he lied. Then he started yelling a bunch of racial epithets. And said "go eff your mother", and something about hoping that she would die in a car crash today. He's a nasty human being that has no place in our community, please do not support this place with your money. I didn't just fall off the ol' turnip truck. I also take credit cards as payment and I'm really clear when I charge a fee. This guy was just flat out lying and hoping I wouldn't notice or that it would be small enough for me not to say something. I've got him on tape lying to me, I'm gonna let the Attorney General know this place is milking people illegally.

Yelp
Hello Yelp! I've been coming to this market/deli for a bit as I live just a few blocks away. I almost always come for a sandwich fix. The deli is pretty basic with 4 types of sandwiches, pastrami, ham, turkey, smoked turkey, and ham and turkey. They all come with pepperjack cheese, or cheddar and include mustard, tomato, and lettuce. They use boars head meat which is top quality meat and juicy and tastes well of the protein. The sandwiches are made fresh everyday but not to order so you cannot customize. For $7 even for a footlong stuffed full of meat using fresh lettuce, a gorgeous dijon mustard seed mustard, juicy and crisp tomato, fresh bread and high quality deli meat, this is an excellent and delicious buy. The sandwiches are huge with meat overflowing and everything is so fresh. I love the restraint and simplicity in this sandwich as the fresh high quality and classic flavors speak for themselves. The price point at $7 is perfect too. This sandwich ia levels above subway or jersey mikes. The deli meat is thick sliced and high end but my favorite part of the sandwich is the crunch of the lettuce with the crisp of a juicy tomato slice, and true mustard flavor and aroma. When one can smell the pure aroma of an ingredient and it is perfumic then it is fresh, natural, and naturally delicious. For $7, you get a rocking footlong stuffed with meat, freshest and hi-end ingredients and no wait. They also have groceries, other deli items, and a selection of nuts This is my go to for a sandwich! Hope you try it out! Brandon

Yelp
Grocery Store? Who needs one after visiting this market. I must admit, it's very well stocked. Things that are new on the market and also products that take you back to your childhood. There isn't nothing this market doesn't have. Parking is metered seeing that it's downtown but this market is a pleasure.

Yelp
Terrible service, owner was rude and cursed at me. Plus the store was pretty grimy and I saw a roach as I was walking out

Yelp
First off.. DO NOT GO HERE.. There is a chance you will be double billed. I went yesterday to purchase two 6 packs of Pellegrino. $19.73.. I paid with my debit card and since the machine was acting up so I was asked to input my pin for a second time. THANKFULLY, I was balancing my January bank statements because 6th Street Market charged me $39.46 for Pellegrino. Since I'm here regularly living literally across the street, I thought I would show up in person with my receipt in hand and show them my bank statement. (All debit card transactions post immediately and before demanding a refund, I confirmed with my Citibank who had in fact confirmed that those funds were not available.) Anyway, I show up and thankfully it was the same man at the register. I show him proof and he claims that it didn't go through on his end. I explain that I had already confirmed it with the bank and they had confirmed that it had posted and regurgitate what they informed me. He then say's he has to call the machine vendor and continues to deny it went through even though I'm showing him proof. He then asks me for my receipt which is my only form of proof I have so I decline. In the end I wasted 45 minutes both on the phone and in person at the bank because this guy wouldn't do the right thing and refund me my money. Whether its $20 or $2,000 you over charged me with your faulty machinery and it was your obligation to refund me and not tell me to wait for 5 days in hopes that the transaction miraculously is refunded and to return when it didn't. I had to initiate a dispute and open a case on my end. I will not be returning and for your safety and in err of caution I advise that you dont either.

Yelp
This is the more spacious of the two convenience markets on the SW corner of 6th & Spring (this is on the 6th Street side; Market on A Spring is on the Spring Street side.) It has a little bit bigger and slightly more high-end selection than the other, however, the prices also seem a bit higher to me. I usually go here when the other doesn't have what I need. This market has mainly dry goods, a lot of refrigerator cases, some meat and cheese, some frozen goods and ice cream. It stocks a slightly larger selection of dry goods (everything from balsamic vinegar to soy milk) than the other small markets. Very clean and nicely laid out. Neither of these markets at 6th & Spring sell beer, wine or alcohol. For still higher-end selection in a local market, walk one block north to Two Bits Market (SW corner of 5th & Spring on the 5th Street side) or one block east and two blocks north to the longtime, pioneering Old Bank District Market at 4th & Main (Main St. side.) Two Bits Market has a great produce section and a high-end deli meat and cheese counter, along with a small selection of mostly gourmet dry goods, beer and wine. Old Bank District has a good selection of dry goods, trending towards gourmet but also some essentials, plus high-end pet food, lots of prepared foods, a Boar's Head deli, and a strong beer and wine selection. In short, the markets at 6th & Spring are generally best for dry goods/household essentials, and the markets at 5th & Spring and 4th & Main are better for perishables and alcohol.

Yelp
They have great fresh fruit, mango's, pineapples and pomegranates my favorite. I also like that they provide friendly service and happy staff. It's late at night and I need to get something light and they have it, so very convenient and I live on Spring Street so it is very convenient. Wish we had more markets like this with great attitude.

Yelp
This is a good quick little market for things you forget. The people staffing genuinely want to help. We need this little shops as DTLA revitalizes!

Lucas P.

Yelp
The best corner store around! Friendliest staff, good prices. Open late, open early! Yay for 6th st market!!
google avatar

Juanita D.

Yelp
Convenient for DTLA-ers if you don't feel like hitting up a big department or grocery store. Everything from fresh cut up fruit, household items (detergent, toilet paper, etc), drinks of all sorts, pre packaged desserts, chips, smokes, cereal, milk & eggs... you name - this place has it. Prices might be a little steep but it's convenience you're paying for.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Great service and the selection is amazing. Organic food and tea and everything you can think of. Ben and Jerry's Americone Dream? YES!!!!! Good pricing. Please get more chips!

Annette M.

Yelp
Smells like straight up dookie and the owners were so rude! Covered with roaches, had to take a shower as soon as I got home because I felt so grimy.

Yelp
The 6th Street Market is a dry market, but it's bound to have what you are looking for. They've got fruit (apples, oranges, etc.), protein bars, bacon, eggs, and other essentials. It does cost an extra 50 cents to use a card, but it's not so bad.

Yelp
I understand this is a larger market close to the Historic Core and likely to have items you need in a pinch BUT.... those cake slices in the front staring out at you? BEWARE!!! seriously, don't eat the cake slices that are in the refrigerator unit facing the sidewalk. they may look good but be warned. no expiration dates on them and you will be puking your guts out. Food poisoning is no bueno.
google avatar

Liam B.

Yelp
I guess this has become "trendy." Get a hint folks. Trendy also means paying more for something than it's worth. Everything, and I mean everything in the store ends with 99 cents. That's a red flag for anyone who cares to pay attention. Granted, the place looks nice and the staff are friendly, but you are taking it up the old wazoo if you go in there to shop. Save your money and walk a few steps in either direction for better deals on the exact same products.

Danny L.

Yelp
I bought breakfast cereal from this store yesterday and found weevil bugs infested the box. Unfortunately I found out the hard way, after my first bowl going on on second, that the flakes floating in the air once I open up the bag of cereal was the dead skin of the weevil bugs! After further investigation, I found that it actually expired over a year ago! How disgusting and unprofessional, leaving food on the shelves that old. I forced myself to throw up what I had already eaten, leaving the area around my eyes completely full of broken capillaries having to leave for work looking like a sick person. Today I went back to refund my money and tell them about the old cereal they left on the shelves and guess what, the box I bought wasn't the only expired cereal. There were several others! I told the cashier, a man who always wears fedora and has a mustache that the cereal I bought also has bugs in it; showing the box to him and he simply tells me to pick another one. But I told him that I want a refund and that half of this brand is expired and that there's no way I picking another one. He continued to tell me I couldn't get a refund without a receipt. Finally after negotiation, he returns my money saying, "This is the only time, next time you'll need a receipt. A real stand up guy! Watch out for expired food here and unprofessional cashiers in fedoras!

Yelp
This market is awesome! They have a lot more stuff than most of the markets in the area, and you can find things that you would normally only find at the grocery store like Amy's products, Bundaberg sodas, and Juice Served Here (cream party!!!). I would definitely recommend this place if you don't want to walk to Ralph's or Whole Foods. Plus, the owner is sooooo sweet and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Where else can you get your "LA Awesome!" brand products? Bought LA Awesome knock off Fabreeze for $2.00. AWESOME! It's a great convenience store that's well kept and has a great variety of products, including Nag Champa, Boar's Head hot dogs, and coconut butter crackers. TRY THIS: Take a coconut butter cracker, smear some Nutella on that thing, add some banana slices. BOOM. Happiness.

Humberto T.

Yelp
Do not come here unless you want to get cussed out. I called to ask a simple question and I spoke with Arman, the owner, and he was ridiculously rude to me and all I did was ask a question I was so confused. Would never come back or call ever again

Brian P.

Yelp
I live a block away from here and it is tempting to run here when I need something quickly. Unfortunately, the last three things that I have bought here have been expired by more than a year. Stale cereal, curdled mustard...this place is absolutely disgusting. Check the expiration dates, or better yet- just go someplace else.

Yelp
love this place, across from my house, open a lot, and everyone who works there is friendly, remembers me, and never judges my midnight ice cream & junk food runs lol :) i do wish they would get sour cream and onion lays though :D
