We recently celebrated my girlfriend’s birthday at 7th Door, and it was truly a magical experience. From the moment we entered, we were warmly welcomed and led through a hallway of 7 doors representing the different flavors of exploration. We were the first party to arrive, and the staff kindly explained to us the fermentation and aging process.
The meal was exquisite from beginning to end, showcasing a wonderful range of Korean cuisine and ingredients presented with a modern twist. The grilled abalone, striploin beef, crab and rice handroll (named after Chef Kim), and noodles in anchovy soup were simply amazing. One unique standout was a savory cream puff filled with caviar, that was presented in a bag that bore the restaurant’s name in the style of the 7/11 brand logo. We loved the tongue-in-cheek approach that added a playful enjoyment to the meal.
At the end of the meal, we ordered coffee and tea to round out the evening. Chef Kim stopped by and we had a lovely chat about NYC and where he travels to do collaborations. He was also so kind to recommended other restaurants for us to try during our time in Seoul.
Can’t speak highly enough of 7th Door and Chef Kim’s work. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Seoul to stop by to experience.
