The Best Bars in the Florida Keys | Eater Miami

"With Key West being one of the country’s most LGBTQ+-friendly cities, it’s only fitting to find a bar with a lively drag cabaret. Downstairs, guests will find music and karaoke, but the real magic happens upstairs. Each night, a small and cozy room transforms into a colorful drag show, complete with budget-friendly drinks. It is not to be missed." - Amber Love Bond

11 Bars To Check Out In Key West

"It’s no surprise that one of the country’s most LGBTQ+ cities has a bar with a drag cabaret. Downstairs always has music and karaoke, but upstairs is where the real fun happens. There’s a nightly drag show that takes place in a small, but cozy room with super affordable drinks." - Amber Love Bond

The 9 Best Bars In Key West

"LGBTQ culture is foundational to Key West, especially its nightlife. That’s why drag is big on the island, and the best (and rowdiest) place to partake is at 801 Bourbon Bar: a gloriously pink building that hosts the most fun drag show in Key West. The ticketed performance happens upstairs, on a small stage in a cramped room, and it’s a hilarious evening where you might very well become part of the performance if you’re sitting close enough to the stage. It's 18 and older before 10:30pm, and 21 and up after for reasons that will become obvious approximately five seconds into the show. " - ryan pfeffer

Google
Alvin, Alvin, Alvin, we love our bartender and gets the bar dancing with his incredible drinks and music selections! The queens are amazing and love the entertainment. Always a fun time on Saturdays and visit as often as we can!

Rachel Moenart

Google
Amazing bar!! So fun and lively. Alvin the bartender was incredible. We got to see a free cabaret show and all the girls were amazing but Donna Walker had the BEST taste in music and I danced to all her songs

CoCo Valer

Google
It's always a blast here. The original bar where the famous Ru Paul diva came to fame. One of the BEST BARTENDERS ALVIN was such a BUCK OF FUN!! So nonchalant while you skip on over THE RAINBOW 🌈 and HAVE A FABULOUS TIME!

Jesse Western

Google
Great music tonight, but I have to be honest — the two male bartenders were a major letdown. Asking customers to pay cash only felt sketchy, and seeing them give free drinks to their girlfriends made it worse. It’s not about their sexuality — it’s about professionalism and integrity. If you’re running a quality establishment, hire staff who reflect that. People deserve to be treated fairly, and your business deserves better representation behind the bar.

Cieralyn Hirrel

Google
Alvin was honestly the best bartender I ever had in my life! He was so much fun and added so much character to the place! He was singing and dancing and simply happy to be alive. Genuine, kind hearted lovely bartender. If only the world had more people like Alvin 😊🙏🍸❤️

Google
We attended the 9pm Drag Show and it was probably the most fun we had on our trip to Key West. Everyone was so welcoming and the whole experience put a smile on my face! Definitely will be back.

Google
Omg what an amazing place and soooo much fun!! The best bartender!! I will be coming back!! Everyone there was so happy and enjoying life

Liza petty

Google
Now this...was a drag show! Thank you Queens for an amazing time! Fantastic drinks and amazing service! You salvaged our girls trip, and that is an incredible feat. If you don't catch this show, you're missing out. You won't have anything to talk about and your vacation will be boring. What a night! We will never forget!

Yelp
This place is so fun !!! Great music and the bartender Christian is sooo fun , he lights this place up. It's always good to have great service and a fun bartender ! Thank you Christian . Hope to see you when we come back to the Keys

Yelp
I saw a Google review that said highly recommended so we popped in. It was $8 for a strawberry margarita that didn't taste like the liquor was tequila. It tasted like vodka. We also ordered a Grey Goose dirty martini, which tasted just okay. The bartender was friendly but working solo so was handling music, customers, bartending, and barback duties. Another employee embraced my husband with a bear hug from behind that was uninvited and unprovoked. Don't touch strangers, especially when COVID is still around. We don't like randos touching us.

Yelp
Fabulous, Flirtatious & Fast Queens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 801 Cabaret was a hoot! The entertainment was campy, but fierce! These girls are no Pageant Queens.................THAT's a GOOD THING because it made for a much better experience! They lip-synced, twirled, interacted with the crowd and had some fabulous lines and jokes! This is a MUST if you want to experience a GREAT, upbeat, fun show! Remember to bring lot's of dollars as these ladies rely on tips to support their "couture" spending! Great Show Ladies! Keep it Real!!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the staples gay bars of Key West. The downstairs bar area is a good watering hole. It's also connected to One Saloon that is a way more uncensored and intimate and if that's more your tune... Service is pretty nice and friendly too! The drinks are pretty strong as well. They have drag shows upstairs for $20 that you can reserve as well!
google avatar

Christie N.

Yelp
Came here for my bday and it was my bf and I first time. We had a blast. Eileen performance was phenomenal and she's a true artist. All the performers were great and engaging.
google avatar

Kyle H.

Yelp
This was the most entertaining club in KW. The girls were energetic and preformed like champions. Don't Change a thing!
google avatar

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Super fun, expect to see some balls. The queens are nice and interactive and will dance on you and talk to the audience. We had a great time.
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
It's a must!!!! Gotta stop by and say Hi to Greg and the staff there. They are amazing. Best drinks and the show is Fantastic!!! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Had a blast attending a drag show here last Saturday night. My partner and I had a great time talking to the bar tender and Queens, the show was killer! The night got even better... I asked my partner to help me go to the restroom, as I was wearing a corset that zipped in front. It was the perfect outfit until....the zipper got caught. We struggled for awhile and eventually had to ask the bartender for a pair of pliers. Once word got out of my outfit fail, the Queens were at my rescue. Puddin, especially!! We had met her a couple nights prior and we instantly clicked! Puddin lent me a cute black dress, saving my outfit! Another queen also lent me her dress, she was the DJ for the show. Shout out to all of the fabulous humans who helped me that night. Had a great time and a wonderful night. Smooches!!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
The service here (expect for the drag queens) was abysmal. The bar tender couldn't be bothered. The man admitting people to the drag show was just rude. I'm not straight. I didn't feel welcome here. It's frustrating, and I'm a bit hurt by the reception we got. I didn't need a red carpet, but basic respect was expected. The show down the street was much more accommodating. I never want to bring a LGBTQIA+ business down, but looking at some of the other reviews, it's clear something needs to be done. Young gays steer clear.
google avatar

Lara W.

Yelp
Went to my first drag show while on my honeymoon. Performers were pretty awesome. Super friendly! Highly recommend a stop here if you're in Key West.
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
Spanks On! If there was any themed vibe I would have from my Key West visit is that they love drag. Bourbon Bar is close to its competitor but seemingly not as upscale. Perhaps the Uptown ladies go one place and the others congregate here. In addition to the show, you can get some decent drinks. Any viruses lurking probably are long gone based on the overwhelming bleach odor, but in today's times it may just what the doctor would order.
google avatar

Sky Valentine K.

Yelp
I love going upstairs for the evening Drag shows especially if in advance your request seats up front; been coming here for nearly 10 years in and off; it's my must-do drag show in KW! It's raunchy and I say that in the best way & fun!

Joey N.

Yelp
Had a great time but I'm done tipping bartenders who can't say hi or thank you. Come on!!! Ridiculous Being rude is just so wrong. Life can be so fun.
google avatar

Golden K.

Yelp
This was my first time in Key West and this place was recommended by our server at Havanna Jack's. I have to say, the place itself is a little on the older side and could use a refresh with the interior, HOWEVER, the show was AMAZING! The drinks were on point and the girls were highly entertaining. The show was high energy and the girls never missed a beat. My server was right. Best show!
google avatar

Servet Y.

Yelp
I am giving this review solely based on the drag performance on Friday night that started at 11 pm. It was 20 dollars per person and we were already focused on having a fun night so we agreed on it as a group although we never paid a cover for a drag performance anywhere else. If this is your first ever drag show, you probably will have fun, as most people did because it was their first, as they made the whole club know. I don't like to bring any gay club down but if you charge $20 per person, it better be at least a mediocre show. This. Was. Really. Bad. Sorry ladies. This. Was. Really. Bad. Except the lady who sang, who clearly had some experience in the scene... I think I will stop right here.... just. I wish I didn't waste my money. That's all.
google avatar

Sherry J.

Yelp
We stopped here to get out of the rain and discovered Stoli crushed mango vodka, one of the best mango vodkas we've tried so far. That alone was worth the trip.

Yelp
We stopped in here over the July 4th weekend during happy hour. I had been to gay-centric Provincetown, MA countless times and ALWAYS wanted to go to a drag show, but never did. So when I saw the friendly drag queens outside, I was curious to see the free show they were advertising. We had our small dog with us and we were able to bring him in too! Bonus! We chatted with a few of the other friendly customers at the bar. Knocking off a star since this place allows smoking. :( I don't mind if someone smokes the occasional cigarette around me, but it was just TOO much with the amount of smoking going on here. We arrived about 20 minutes before the drag show began. The happy hour drink specials were good. We each had a frozen drinks for $5. I don't remember the details, but I think they did have some kind of good deal on one beer as well, so it's worth asking about. We stuck around to watch 2 of the drag queen performances. The guy that performed the Britney Spears song "Circus" was great and very animated. We also got a kick out of "Cher." I was very impressed by the makeup and outfits! This was a fun place to pop in for a bit and hopefully I'll check out another drag show sometime in the future!

Yelp
AMAZING IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! My sisters and I brought our mom to her first drag show for her 50th birthday and we had a blast. The entrance fee to the show (11pm on a Saturday night) was more affordable than what I anticipated. The staff was so nice. Especially Justin the bartender upstairs! He really took care of us and made our night extremely special. The queens were to DIE for! The host was comical and SO good at her craft. We really had a blast and 801 bourbon bar was the highlight of our night. p.s. baby eileen really needs some pointers, please help her keep the energy.
google avatar

Stephy G.

Yelp
801 Bourbon Bar was my first drag show experience ever (and its only $10 per person!!) In one night I sat through two showings and if there was a third I probably would have ordered another drink and sat through that one as well, the drags who work here are hilarious and worth seeing. This establishment is made up of two floors - main floor bar + upper level drag show bar The bartenders were quick and attentive - I give the waitresses a lot of respect having to deal with overly drunk bachelorettes and birthday girls. One random call out is if you ever order a vodka and Red Bull here you will literally get a glass of vodka and a can of red bull - I was pretty confused by this. I ended up trying to pour the vodka in the red bull can and take sips.
google avatar

Yelp
The show was AMAZING! If you wanna laugh and have a great time come here. The girls and all the stuff are super friendly and are incredible entertainers

Yelp
I had a great time, all the ladies for the 11:00pm show was amazing I really enjoyed it.
google avatar

Caroline H.

Yelp
The cast was so amazing! very kind and performed with such enthusiasm and charm:) I definitely recommend this bar if you want to have a good time with family and friends! Puddin Taine was the sweetest sweet lady I met
google avatar

Indira P.

Yelp
My sister and I came here all the way from Miami just for the show. During the day nobody told us that we had to reserve. We came back at 10:30 on Saturday august 8th and the "gentleman" at the door told us that they were full and there were 12 people in waiting list. So I told him to put us in waiting list and he was like "there's almost no chance at all". I insisted because we had literally came down to Key West Just for the show and he was like increasingly annoyed and super rude "stop. I already told you we're full so just leave". I'm still in awe.

Joe P.

Yelp
Not terrible. Brought my father-in-law to this bar for a drag show on vacation and he was hesitant. We enjoyed most of the show until one of the drag queens showed HIS genitals and then we left. I wished they had advertised possible nudity. Being from the NYC area and going to a bunch there-this was a first for me and I'm not sure my father-in-law will ever go to another one. Drag show was great up until that!

Cara C.

Yelp
Piece of shit bar. They don't accept lesbians they literally were so rude to use it was absolutely unreal. They wouldn't let us upstairs but let gay men up there right infront of us. They were bluntly rude. It was unreal. Please if you're agay and support lesbian rights too please do not support this bar. This place is not nice
google avatar

Taylor W.

Yelp
Drag show was overall fun , more like a comedy show than like a true talent show. My group was very easy to pick on as we were all in vintage wedding dresses for my Bach party. Bar service was great and we were frequently checked on.
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
This was not a good experience my husband was a drag show virgin and go no attention except for the non-host. we wanted this to be amazing. so sad. he felt shunned even though he had dollars out. so sad.

Ava D.

Yelp
they seriously need a new man to admit people into the drag shows quite literally the nastiest human you will ever meet, he screamed at us and treated us like trash when we were trying to get admitted to see the show. the queens were fabulous which is the only reason i'm giving any stars. fire this dude though, there's no reason to be so rude to people.
google avatar

Ash M.

Yelp
The drag show was so so, some performers were better than the other, basically all they do is lip sync and dance. The surrounding sound was not great, it's time for an upgrade. Tickets has to be purchased online, I felt $20 entrance fee pp was a little pricey for the show. The $10 mixed drinks were disappointing as well, it was one of the worst drinks I had in a long time.

Damien P.

Yelp
Great drinks. Fast friendly service. Chill atmosphere. Rum runners are off the chart ! Don't be scared- stop in!

Regina M.

Yelp
Love love. Survive is awesome, musics great, drinks are delicious, overall customer service exceptional!
google avatar

Laurie D.

Yelp
Came here twice - once for Sunday night bingo and Monday night drag show. Had a great experience at both! I won a cheesy gift in bingo and loved the comedy/banter of the staff. The drag show was the highlight! Raunchy, yet tasteful. The ladies who performed were one point and fierce AF. Lovely group and funny as hell! A few things that could have been better - the bathrooms are sketch and had one bartender that couldn't be bothered. Aside from that everything else was wonderful!

Tish C.

Yelp
We went to the show expecting a great time and instead were insulted by the emcee to the point that we just left.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
I reserved a spot for my friend's bachelorette party online - it was a little over $10 a ticket, and then we each just paid $5 more for VIP right by the stage. Totally worth it! There's a bar downstairs and the show is upstairs. This is a very intimate venue. The show was great and so fun.

Taylor L.

Yelp
Came to key west for a quick vacation with a girl friend. We were nervous it wouldn't be worth it and we would feel uncomfortable. SOO glad we came here, both first time at a drag show and had so much fun and lots of laughs!! 100% recommend. (Don't bring boyfriend unless he will play along) Bring money for tips!!!
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
The drag show is so much fun! My group went as one of the stops for a bachelorette party and had a really good time. These drag queens really know how to entertain! Their numbers are well choreographed and hysterical. The nitty-gritty: the drag show is upstairs and they also have a bar downstairs that we didn't spend any time at. We paid a $10 per person cover and sat at the upstairs bar to watch the show. We were extremely entertained and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a slightly different night life scene. I won't give away too much of the show, but if anyone can put together a performance of Mahna Mahna from the Muppets, it'll be these drag queens. A Key West must-see!

Kelly M.

Yelp
This is a MUST. Venue is wonderful. Staff is so helpful and kind!! And the girls put on a killer show!!! So much laughter and great performances. It was the best of everything!! And they are so kind and sweet to talk to after and learn more about them individually, I can not recommend enough checking out the shows here!!!

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Seriously such a fun fantastic experience. Performance area is small and intimate, great interaction with performers who leave it all on the stage. EVERYONE in the audience had a great time and got a memorable show!! Definitely make this your stop for great, fun, funny drag!
google avatar

Raelene M.

Yelp
This is a must stop every time we visit key west. We love the energy and always have a good time. They did great with COVID protocols especially compared to other bars in the area. Which I did appreciate.

Dan T.

Yelp
Popped in for a drag show our first night and it did not disappoint. We went back 4 more times. The whole cast was great but Puddin stole the show. She is hilarious. The bartender was awesome each time and he kept us taken care of. We can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Brian D.

Yelp
We had so much fun at 801 Bourbon Bar. Our bartender Ryan remembered our drinks from our first visit. We came back 3 more times. The people are very friendly and other customers were fun to talk with. The Brian's will be coming back on our next visit.

Joy K.

Yelp
More traditional drag show than Aqua (think Barbra, show tunes, lol) and way less soliciting for tips and singles. Unfortunately also much less interactive with crowd- more like single song performances, less like extended mashups. Also a WAY cleaner show than Aqua has ever had
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
We go to 801 Bourbon Bar every time we go to Key West and this trip was special as it was Fantasy Fest. We popped by to see a spectacular show on the main floor and it was free. But it was completely packed so we couldn't really get in the door. Later that night we decided to pay to see the show upstairs. After paying the $10 cover, we headed up and got a front row seat. The show was very good. I saw things I had not seen before on stage, but I'll leave it at that. Were we younger we would have stayed for the 11 pm show as they do something different but we headed back to the hotel. Everyone should stop by 801 if only one time to get the drag queen experience.
google avatar

Joe G.

Yelp
801 Bourbon was our first drag show while on the island. The show was not bad, but it was not as polished as some of the shows we saw later in the week. My biggest complaint is the amount of penis I saw in a drag show. One queen was performing a song in which she flashed her cock at the audience, which is fine and fit in with the shock factor, especially with that song. But she flashed gain, and again, and again. Then later for a different song she did a twirl and whoops, there's penis again. Call me crazy but I don't want to be regularly seeing a drag queen's dick. All that being said, the bartender this night was great. We returned the next night for drag bingo. This was a much more enjoyable experience. Proceeds went to charity in support of One Human Family. It was a fun time. The hostess was phenomenal and funny. There was unexpected pizza and shots being sent around the bar. The regulars and their participation just added to the experience. This review is tricky because of my distinctly different experiences. If I were only reviewing the drag show, this would be a 3/5, and if I were only reviewing the bingo it would be 5/5. Be warned, as with all the drag shows I saw on the island, there are much fewer gays than expected.
google avatar

Kyle T.

Yelp
This place is a great stop before you get down to the craziness of Duval. Very nice bartenders and drag queens to greet you. They do have smoking inside which isn't my favorite but, you have to stop and grab a drink.

Resa S.

Yelp
Bought tickets to the 9:00 pm drag show. $20 each. Performers didn't pressure you to too and actually just performed. Saw 2 shows tonight and would recommend this show over others.
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite bars. We visited multiple times and had a great time. We went to a show upstairs and loved it. There was sand on the floor and had a tiki vibe. Everyone was friendly. 10/10 would go back again next time we are in key west.

Sophie G.

Yelp
Staff is rude, drag is the worst I've ever seen. Save your time & money and go to aqua. I guarantee you won't regret it!!
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
We went there for the kinky couple party during fantasy fest 2021. First, the door guy "Ma" I believe his name was, was VERY RUDE. We were told to read and sign the rules but couldn't see it because they lost power. When my wife used her phones flashlight to read the rules, MA yelled at her. Sign without reading?! He physically shooed my hand away when I was about to initial in the "wrong corner" of the rule sheet.. Then, went upstairs and waited for power to come on. It was hot and crowded but we waited. 1 performer did a show and it was really good. But she was the only one! Nothing else happened. We talked to one of the queens who was very nice. We asked the bartender for a couple drinks and she was quite rude also. I had a group with me, we paid over $300 a couple, for what!? Rude staff and ONE 15 minute show. This was THE WORST part of our Fantasy Fest. FF is great but avoid this place like the plague!
