Went for a birthday and really enjoyed a great steak dinner. This place is exactly what you want in a chophouse. Reminded me of old school chophouses in Chicago. The cuts of meat are excellent. The selection is very impressive. Definitely heading back. Only issue was we booked it as a birthday dinner, they did keep wishing my wife a happy birthday but forgot her dessert and candle. Small issue but it is the details that make the difference between this place and another.

And dined in on Saturday night easy to find reservation surprisingly best kept secret because they’re only less than six months open. They had a whole display on the different types of meat so that you can choose options from Japan as well as US highly recommend a tuna tartare which should valid so there’s no pictures as well as the steak tartar. Yes I got the tomahawk cause I knew I was gonna eat leftovers just so you know it’s a flat $400. I had silver oak that was Alexander Valley priced about the same as anywhere else that would have it. If you get the honor of having Hilton as your server and have a great time, his professional and knows his meet and a lot of random fun facts which just made the dinner fun. It’s the details in the bathroom that do it for me knowing that there’s another one of these in New York is unbelievable cause this is the kind of detail you see only at individual private family owned restaurants .

The restaurant's discreet entrance belied the exceptional dining experience that awaited within. Upon entering, the upscale steakhouse ambiance enveloped us, setting the tone for a sophisticated evening with a huge gold bull statue in the center of the room. The culinary delights did not disappoint. The steak, cooked to perfection, simply melted in our mouths, its rich, buttery flavor a true revelation. The accompanying mashed potatoes and cheesecake were equally impressive, boasting a decadent, creamy texture that left us wanting more. What truly made our evening special, however, was the thoughtful gesture by the restaurant staff. In celebration of my birthday, they graciously comped my dessert and champagne, a kind touch that left a lasting impression. While the service was attentive and courteous throughout, there was a brief lapse towards the end of our meal, when our waiter seemed to vanish, leaving us to wait – and search – for him to present our check. Nonetheless, this minor misstep did little to detract from an otherwise outstanding dining experience. We shall certainly return.

I recently celebrated my graduation at a steakhouse in McLean, and while it had some cute touches, the overall experience didn’t quite live up to what I expected for the price. The decor was adorable, with congratulations confetti on our table and cute ribbons wrapped around the menus, creating a festive atmosphere for the occasion. Unfortunately, things got off to a rocky start with our first round of Long Island drinks. They were absolutely terrible, so I had to flag down the manager to have them remade. The second round was definitely better, and I appreciated the manager's commitment to making things right. As we finished our appetizers, I had to chase down the server because my oysters hadn’t arrived yet, which was pretty disappointing since they should've come out first. The manager was nice enough to waive the price for them due to the delay, but while the server was super friendly, the service itself felt a bit lacking. The Long Island drinks should’ve been simple to make, and oysters should have come out faster. There were just some small discrepancies that impacted the experience overall. On the bright side, the steaks were really good; everyone found them flavorful. Plus, one of the staff at the door even offered to hold our graduation cupcakes and serve them later, which was a thoughtful touch. Still, for the amount we paid, I expected a better overall experience. We chose to go to McLean instead of staying in DC, hoping for a swifter service, but it didn’t turn out that way. While management did start checking on us later, I felt that the service we experienced didn’t match the premium price. It’s cold also so bring your jacket.

Dining at this establishment was truly memorable. The ambiance reflects a pleasing dining atmosphere focusing on expertly prepared steaks. The dry-aged bone-in NY strip and Australian wagyu were exceptionally tender and flavorful, beautifully complemented by the red king crab Oscar and seared foie gras, creating a harmonious balance of tastes. The Grand Shellfish platter showcased an impressive selection of fresh offerings, including jumbo shrimp, lobster, king crab, and oysters, all of which were delightful. The New York Style Cheesecake was rich and creamy for dessert, enhanced by a lovely blueberry compote. The Brooklyn Blackout Cake was equally impressive, featuring moist layers paired with chocolate pudding, complemented by a side of crème anglaise and sea salt butterscotch ice cream, making it a fitting conclusion to a sumptuous meal. Our server, Hilton, provided exceptional service, adding to the pleasant experience. I highly recommend this fine dining venue for anyone looking to celebrate special occasions or enjoy a memorable meal.

Everything from appetizers to main course to dessert is absolutely fabulous 🤩 So glad we picked this restaurant for our New Year Eve's dinner. The Fennel-Apple slaw adds a bit of refreshing sweetness to the crab cake, perfect match. Bone in prime rib is soooo juicy in every bite, perfect temperature and doneness. This is a must order! Grand Marnier souffle, there is about a 15 minutes wait because is baked fresh but is worth the wait. It comes with fruit, chocolate and vanilla sauce so it gives you so many different ways to enjoy this souffle. All the staff is super friendly and really like the vibrate ambiance of this place.

5 stars for our waitress Josey T. She is a real pro when it comes to offering white glove service!! Josey even knows the best tricks to get fun photos. My surf & turf was beautiful and cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the salmon which was a very good portion size and looked delicious. I had one spicy pomegranate margarita and it got the job done!!! The only menu item I would not recommend are the scalloped potatoes. The restaurant GM agreed with me that it needs some work :) He replaced it with my choice of a side at no cost which is so kind. Get the broccolini; it is yummy yummy. I would absolutely recommend over Ruth Chris which is across the Pike. 801 has the ambience, decor, cleanliness, service, fully stocked restrooms, and menu offerings that reflect a high end steakhouse. Not to mention, I’ve had two unbelievable experiences with racists at Ruth Chris - two different occasions. I felt very welcome at 801. Great venue for a girls night, date night, or solo self-love experience. Go and tell your friends.

This was a nice steakhouse. I wouldn't put it with the Del Frisco's of the world but it was very tasty and I'd absolutely go back. I went with my family and we got 3 filets and one surf and turf. We also got the mashed potatoes and broccolini and the chocolate soufflé. The meat was perfectly cooked and I didn't need to ask for any A1 as it was very tender and delicious as is. The sides were great, potatoes were very whipped and buttery and the broccolini was excellent, it had a slight subtle spice/kick and they were perfectly seasoned. The chocolate soufflé (that took 25 minutes to prepare which they warn you of) left much to be desired. It was a bit flavorless and really it was only good because of the accoutrements that came along with it. I thought overall this was a good spot and would come again. It was a bit pricey, we spent $350 and got no soups, salads, apps nor liquor but I would said it was a good meal! Oh one other thing, we made a reservation and they sat us in a bar booth, we didn't get to enjoy the nice dining room which I thought was weird especially since they weren't busy.

Yelp
First time trying 801. Overall a great experience. The decor was very distinguished, clean and staff alert and friendly. We got a picture of Jerry (the bull statue in the middle of the dining room); he looked magnificent with his floral arrangement around his neck lol! Our waiter was friendly and provided guidance when we asked the difference between wet aged and dry aged. He brought out fresh bread loaves with butter. We ordered the calamari to start....the strips were thick cuts but very tender and topped with fried zucchini strings. We really enjoyed it. We decided on a prime rib, a wet aged ribeye and a dry aged ribeye with a la carte sides of roasted mushrooms, lobster Mac and cheese and the hash browns. All three steaks were cooked perfectly and there is a definite taste difference between the two ribeyes, both fantastic unique flavors. Sides were delicious, IMO though, we enjoyed the lobster Mac and wild mushrooms from Capital Grille better. Why? Because the cheeses was very mild and thought it could have used a more nuttier cheese and the mushrooms were all cut in strips except the button mushrooms which I felt they could've just left those out. The hash brown was different and had a nice crunch with the chunky bacon and melted cheese! We were stuffed but decided to share a caramel apple upside down cake. In my mind I picture chunks of apple on top of cake drizzled with caramel....instead it was a layer of gelatinous apple purée which was pretty tart and not very appealing IMO. Not everything needs to be transformed to something more fancy...sometimes sticky to basics is all it takes lol. I did tell our waiter it wasn't what we hoped it to be when he asked. He actually comped it and gave us a couple chocolate chip cookies to go instead! We didn't expect that at all since we did eat it lol but it was definitely appreciated! Again overall a great experience if you've never been!

Yelp
The atmosphere and decor is very nice. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. Valet's were very nice as well. My only critique would be to get rid of the giant neon sign on the side of the kitchen. Cheapens the look a bit. We got a NY strip, petite filet, Mac and cheese, wedge salad, and chocolate soufflé. All were delicious, no complaints.

Cindy T.

Yelp
Our server was excellent....HOWEVER, our lunch was not! My husband's pasta special with the Bolognese had very greasy meat sauce and hardly any noodles. I had the Tennessee chicken sandwich. The chicken was paper thin, overcooked and tough, and over seasoned. I chewed on half of it and left the other half. My son in law had added chicken to his salad and had to send it back because it was dry and overcooked. The server was kind enough to send us home with delicious complimentary cookies. Sadly we will not be back.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal!! I would say easily one of the top steakhouses in the area. Everything was great, ambience, service, speed, and food quality. A bit on the pricier side but you clearly get what you pay for in this place. Got the wet aged bone in filet special and dry aged rib eye (along with some sides.). Chocolate soufflé for dessert is huge and the real deal!!

Yelp
Alexa Play Magic by Coldplay I wanted to come try this place with my better half but catching up with an old friend of twenty years plus, had me here in VA trying 801 Chophouse without my heartbeat. We dined at the bar like old bar buddies. Old Friends and dinner means the bar option. Let's start off with ambiance, beautiful restaurant. Even dining at the bar was elegant. Service, impeccable! The manager made sure to greet us, ask how dinner was going several times. Staff were super attentive. Let's get into it! House Wedge - PERFECT Crab cake - One of the best I've had Petit Filet - Great Green beans - Good Hash browns with Cheese- Okay Overall, this place is great, I'm definitely returning with my foodie partner in crime but we'll do the romantic way and get a booth, share food, and take pictures like the foodies we are. Price is at Fine Dining price point but worth it! Meal for two $380 with gratuity. Good to Note: Parking is free! Valet service at that! Classy classy! My type of restaurant! Magical For Sure! Only reason it's 4 stars is because food needed salt on a few items. Really I'd give them a 4.5!!!!

Lily J.

Yelp
For the astronomical prices, the food was absolutely mediocre. Fois gras was not cooked right. Steaks were not cooked to order. Calamari was weird. Shrimp cocktail could have come straight from Costco. Bearnaise sauce was awful. On the other hand, service was AMAZING! Our server Grant??? (the one with the astoundingly beautiful singing voice as he sang happy birthday to my brother) was the best I've ever had. Bravo! That young man needs a raise. So tactful, so perceptive, so attentive, so absolutely professional. The restaurant itself is beautiful. However, I can't fairly comment on the ambience because we were a large group in a private room with children!!! I would definitely like to visit the restaurant with a smaller group.

Francis S.

Yelp
I've been to many steakhouses and this has to be up there with the Peter Lugers and Hawksmoores of the world. Came here on a Saturday night and was greeted by a very kind hostess and was served by a VERY knowledgeable gentleman named Grant. He gave recommendations that were honest, and man he was spot on about everything. The steak cut presentation was very useful in figuring out what to order. I went with the lobster bisque, steamed mussels and Dry Aged Ribeye which were all amazing. Grant recommended Guinness drawn butter that paired PERFECTLY with the side of mashed potatoes and steak. Didn't have dessert, but I'm sure that also would have been delicious because nothing that I ordered missed. Would give the staff, service and food six stars if I could. The ambience was great too. More on the quieter side compared to a Capital Grill or other places in the area. Not that loud places is a deal breaker but it's definitely easier to have conversations over dinner. Large bar selection and they offer some very good quality and variety. Definitely going back. Parking: Free validated parking

Yelp
Plenty of parking and easy to access off of toll road and Rt.7. It was Sunday evening with a 4:30 reservation. We just about had to place to ourselves. The food was insanely good, calamari was divine! Entries included pan roasted seafood (shrimp, king crab, lobster tail, scallops, mussels) it was so damn good! My friend had a hefty filet with a succulent sauce that included crab meat (oscar). We shared a 1 lb loaded baked potato and broccolini. We finished up with dessert (apple dish and sorbet trio) and finally coffee. The service was superb and attentive! I'll be back!

Yelp
It was our anniversary and we decided to tryout the new steakhouse in McLean. Everything everything everything was phenomenal!!! Grant was our waiter and this guy was spot on, he was so helpful, educational, good sense of humor!! 5 star for Grant!!! We will definitely come back and thank you for a wonderful night!

Mike D.

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious food, and surprisingly reasonable prices for the meal we got. Grant was a great waiter and the meat presentation was a fun touch. For sure going back!

Gloria M.

Yelp
Tried the lobster bisque this time, very rich and flavorful! It's listed on the menu as a larger size but you can order a smaller cup of it, perfect for soup season.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience. This location atmosphere, service and food is wonderful. I've visited their Leawood restaurant. This McLean one is no exception. Highly recommend.

Yelp
David you were great! New concept in Tysons did not disappoint in service. Hosts were friendly and they were flexible with booth options. David was on point with his menu knowledge and his hospitality demeanor was great. Ordered oysters, a filet, mac and cheese, and creamed spinach. Got a bit buzzed during dinner so I wasn't able to eat everything but the portions for the price were on point. Looking forward to coming back soon! Thank you for a great experience!

Yelp
Prime Rib 801 bone in 16 oz Dry Rib Eye 8 oz Porter Dry Grilled Cauli Creamed spinach Fried asparagus Mashed Potatoes Fried Calamari Bone Marrow Beer: Dunkel Dark Lager Top notch service, great atmosphere, all the meats and sides were just fabulous. Restaurant was on tonight. Beer was great too. Date visited: 12/7/2024 5:45 Would I go again? 110% Tysons needs more places like 801 because we lack top notch places to feed. It's getting better though as the area revitalizes. Great job 801. Great job Grant ( our super great attendant). Photos never do great food justice. Just try it!

Yaz R.

Yelp
3.5 stars overall. I know this is a newer restaurant, but they have been open for over a month and are definitely still having some issues with service and the food as well. The inside is huge and it is very beautiful! I tried the oysters, which were fine, but apparently have made some people sick. I also tried the filet mignon which was cooked well but was really missing a lot of salt or seasoning. However, the meat was super tender. I also tried the macaroni and cheese side and the sautéed spinach. The spinach was very garlicky and was just OK. I would say it was super average. Was really disappointed with the mac & cheese because it was so bland and although it was a huge serving and creamy, this dish had absolutely no spices and was just really missing a bunch of salt! It was hyped up a lot by our server so I definitely had higher expectations. Also, there were huge gaps in the service, including between the appetizer and main course and then waiting for the entrées to be bagged up. I won't be back.

Yelp
Came in for an early dinner everything was good the steaks were flavorful and cooked perfect(medium well). Will come back best steak house in the area(sorry Palm)

Yelp
We tried out 801 Chophouse today for lunch expecting a great experience. Unfortunately, it was not what we expected. The ambiance was nice but after we were sat in a booth, we waited for almost 10 min before a busser (not a waiter) came to get our drink order. once our drinks came (dropped off by the hostess), we waited another 15-20 min before the waiter finally came over to the table. He asked how our drinks were but we were ready to order. He never introduced himself or told us his name. He took our order and never came back when drink glass was empty. finally when the food came I asked for a glass of wine, which came promptly. Overall the food was good but the service was by no means up to standards. We will be coming back. On the off chance we do, we will requestbut a different server.

Suzanne Z.

Yelp
801 Chophouse is the best steakhouse I've ever been to. Service is impeccable (classy, attention to detail and knowledgeable) Highly recommend. The best beef in the DMV area. The steak was cooked to perfection and truly melt in your mouth. Scallops were also perfectly cooked. Oysters Rockefeller were to die for. Incredible sides! The souffle for dessert was exquisite. Extensive wine menu.

Yelp
I know this restaurant just opened recently, so maybe the problems that we had are because they are still ironing things out, but the service was really bad. They seated us in the noisy bar area instead of the nice dining room, even though we are a couple who was celebrating a special occasion. I ordered a champagne cocktail and what arrived was a mix of sparkling wine and lemonade (very bizarre). Our soup came without a spoon. We waited a very long time for our steaks to come out after our starters--over an hour, then because we had to wait so long the waiter told us that he brought us a spinach side (that we had not ordered) for free, but then when we got the bill, they had charged us for it. We had ordered a soufflé at the beginning of the night after our server recommended it, but after our steaks the server brought us the dessert menu, and he did not remember that we ordered the soufflé. When we reminded him that he had already taken our dessert order, he told us he remembered that and would check with the kitchen. 15 minutes later we were still waiting so we decided it was so late given how long everything had taken that there was no way we were going to wait for them to make a soufflé, and that we wanted to just get out of there, so we asked for the check. The food was good, but not any better than Capital Grille or Morton's. So even though the location is really convenient for us, we won't go back--the poor service was far too frustrating.

Yelp
Visited in mid-December with another couple and we were all very impressed. The meal and service were great. I initially thought this place would give Capital Grille, which is just up the road a run for its money. My wife and I went back again on New Year's Eve and, unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed. We sat at the bar for dinner. To be fair, the ambiance is nice, and the appetizers, to include oysters and shrimp cocktail, were good. My wife ordered the scallops and risotto, and the risotto was incredibly salty. Over the top salty. I like my food salty and it was too much even for me. They redid the risotto and it was better tasting but came out in a small bowl which was odd. Not the greatest presentation. My steak was ok. We decided on coffee and chocolate soufflé for dessert. The coffee came out lukewarm. When I mentioned this to the bartender, she said there was a fresh pot brewing, which to me means they knew the coffee wasn't hot and fresh to begin with but decided to serve it anyway. Capital Grille is consistent. Never had an issue there, and my wife and I have been patrons for years. Don't think we'll be in any hurry to go back to 801. Also, a lesson could be learned from Great American Restaurants in the DMV, and that lesson is, when a patron has an issue of some sort, send a manager out to discuss the problem at hand. Doing so sends the message that the restaurant "really" cares about the customer experience.

Meredith D.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant. I think since they are new, the wait staff is a little timid to make sure customers are happy and don't understand substitutions. I asked for the salmon without all of the accompanying items, and the waiter said he didn't think they could do that. It was impossible. I had to get it how it was listed on the menu. (My fault for ordering salmon at a steak place!) Also, we ordered cocktails in large pint beer glasses with lots of mixer. We were brought two small glasses and I had to ask three times for additional soda for my drink. Just little things that should have been understood at a high end steak place. We'll try it for lunch when they open in October.

Grant Z.

Yelp
Having been to 801 a few times now, I can say it has some of the best food in NoVA. Definitely the best steaks hands down. Very nice interior with plenty of private rooms for larger groups. I can see myself coming back again and again just for the service alone!

Danielle P.

Yelp
My husband and I went to 801 Chophouse on a Tuesday evening for our anniversary. It wasn't busy and they seemed to be pretty well staffed. My husband had added a note to the reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, so the hostess sprinkled confetti on the table before we sat down. It was a nice touch, but it would have been better had the server recognized that we were celebrating and said something. The food was mostly good. My filet mignon was overcooked, which was disappointing. After dinner, the server asked if we would like the dessert menu. We of course said yes because we were celebrating our anniversary. He brought us the menu and warned us that if we ordered one of the soufflé desserts to take into account the 20 minutes for them to make it from scratch. He then left us with the menu to discuss. We decided we would order two of the other dessert options that wouldn't take so long to prepare, but then our waiter did not come back to take our order for another 20 minutes. What if we had wanted the soufflé?! By the time he finally came back to take our order, we were tired and needed to get home to relieve the babysitter. So we said we would pass on dessert, even though we had fully planned to get order some. The waiter seemed annoyed with us and grabbed the menu in a huff. We paid and left, feeling pretty disappointed in the whole experience, and especially that our waiter's negligence had prevented us from getting dessert. There was no excuse for the waiter not to be attentive, seeing as it was a quiet Tuesday evening. Unfortunately, we will not be going back to 801 Chophouse because of this experience, even though it is very close to our home and would have been a nice addition to our rotation of neighborhood restaurants.

Yelp
We know 801 Chophouse having dinned at the original in Des Moines and in Kansas City. The best in the Midwest now in the DVM. We were very excited to learn that they had just opened and made reservations for our Anniversary. The staff was amazing and they were so excited that we actually dinned at their original location in Des Moines Iowa. They treated us like royalty and the chef and general manager came to congratulate us and thanked us for celebrating our anniversary with them. The service and all of the food was the best we've had in the DVM and we have dined at all of the top steakhouses in town. All the beef was prime and every dish we had was out of this world!! Classic, high class Midwest chophouse!!

Yelp
Recently on my birthday , my husband and I went to have dinner at 801 Chophouse Tysons Corner which is one of the expensive steakhouses , opened just 3 weeks. We made reservation ahead of time. The receptionist greeted us and took us to a booth in the bar area that was kind of noisy and dark. She did not take us to the dinning room where it was much brighter and more comfortable, the dinning room wasn't full, why she didn't take us to the dinning room , we didn't know , may be not enough waiter or us ? We ordered Caesar salad to be shared , my husband ordered red wine , I didn't order wine since I don't drink wine or soda. For dinner , my husband ordered scallops , and I'd ordered the 16oz prime rib medium that was pretty good, we'd ordered the butter with bone marrow sauce , and we also ordered green beans with bacon which was good. At the end of our dinner, I'd ordered coffee and my husband wanted cappuccino but they didn't have as they didn't have the machine yet. My coffee came out just luke warm, seems like it's been sitting there for a long time, the waiter didn't border to make another pot. I didn't complain figured that not too many people would order coffee and it's getting late. The waiter did not charge us coffee, and the bill came to be around $ 300 tips included . Don't think we'll ever go back if they don't change their attitude and their service.
