General Election 2019 | Where to Eat When Canvassing in Hendon | Eater London

"Hendon’s branch of 805 may not be quite as good as the iconic Old Kent Road original, but this is still one of the better Nigerian restaurants in the area and lively until well into the night. Pair neon orange jollof with any number of stews, or their signature Monika fish flash fried with stacked fingers of yam." - Jonathan Nunn

The restaurant is nice. It wasn’t anything special though sadly. My family and I booked a table and the lighting the setting holds is so dim! My parents had to use flashlights to see their menus 😭! As for the pricing of these dishes available, snails for £28 is daylight robbery in my opinion… we did get puff puff on the house due to a few of their food not being accessible, though, they weren’t soft. They were a mix of puff puff and buns - we weren’t a fan. For starters, we ordered beef suya and chicken suya, the lamb wasn’t available ☹️ they were nice, but, the chicken did have a lot of bones. Now our mains! My parents each ordered egusi with pounded yam, one with goat meat and one with beef. The goat meat was NOT NICE! We don’t now if it wasn’t cleaned properly, but it wasn’t halal. The taste was not it. The egusi was mediocre too. Luckily they blessed the soups with stock fish! My brother and I both got the Monika Croaker Fish with a side of plantain and salad. The bones in this fish ehhhh! Chai! I was choking for the first few minutes. Well that’s the consequence of eating fish I guess. It was nice but nothing amazing, everything they gave us was not thrilling- I was expecting more ☹️ One of the servers seemed nervous but it was nice as my mum was teasing him kindly. Very funny! He set a nice atmosphere and gave his opinions on a few of the dishes the restaurant served. In the end we ended up full and left. I don’t know if it was just this branch of the 805 restaurants but to make this fair, I probably need to try their other locations 🫠.

This is a Nigerian food restaurant. For a Nigerian food restaurant in London, I found the ambience to be surprisingly decent. The food was good considering this is London. It probably wouldn't score that high if it was situated in Nigeria. As is standard for Nigerian restaurants in London, the food is somewhat overpriced for what you are getting. A good experience and choice if you want to enjoy Nigerian food.

I had the pleasure of visiting 805 Restaurants twice during my trip to London, and both experiences were absolutely fantastic! The first time I went was later in the evening, hoping to try their egusi, but unfortunately, it was already sold out—it’s clearly a popular dish, which I totally understand. Even though I couldn’t get my first choice, I still had an incredible meal. Everything I tried was delicious, and the flavors were on point. The prices are a little higher than what you’d expect for traditional dishes, but the environment and aesthetic of the restaurant more than made up for it. It’s beautifully designed, creating a great atmosphere for dining. On my second visit, I finally got to try the egusi, and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait! So rich and flavorful. If there’s a specific dish you’re hoping to try, I’d recommend coming early for lunch to ensure they have it in stock. Overall, 805 Restaurants is a must-visit if you’re in London. I’ll definitely be back! Pictured: Ewedu with beef and pounded yam Serving: PERFECT ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I came here with two friends who were Nigerian and I allowed them to pick what I would eat after sharing to them my curiosities of what pounded yam looked like. They came here on a previous occasion and enjoyed the food My friend picked the egusi soup paired with pounded yam that contained a mix of beef and seafood. For an authentic experience, my friend showed me how to eat with our hands for the first time which I proceeded to follow. It was a lovely cultural experience. The food was flavourful. Had a slight kick, but it was tolerable. Also tried my friend’s okra soup and pepe soup, lovely. Service was decent. All-in-all a great cultural culinary experience. Though on the pricier side.

My husband and I used to be regulars at this restaurant but stopped visiting about a year ago due to poor service and poor food. We returned a week ago and had a lovely experience. The waiter, Ranadeen, was excellent! He was very polite and attentive. They had everything we wanted available (which was one of the issues before), and the food was good. My husband had Amala and Ewedu and really enjoyed it. I had the Monica fish (mild) and Fried rice, which I did enjoy but the fish was a bit too spicy for me, and the Fried rice could do with a bit more seasoning. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience, and we will be returning.

The food was really nice, but the prices were high to start with. The starter sharing platter was meant to have spring rolls and came without them. When asked, they offered more of the beef suya as they had ran out of spring rolls. So this was fine... When we had food left over, the take away boxes were £1 each. However, the main issue came when paying the bill. Unfortunately we paid by card without checking each and every item was the correct price. When one of the group looked at this, it turned out that we had been over charged £17.50 from a lot of items having been charged at between 50p and £3 extra compared to the prices on the menu. We spoke to 2 members of staff about this, and they did not seem surprised and offerred apologies. They just replied in a nonchalant way, explaining that the menu and the prices have changed but they hadn't updated the menu, but did not offer a refund. We asked for the difference back, as we expected to pay what was on the menu, and they hadn't informed us of the price change or amended the menu temporarily. This was refused with the excuse that the system would not allow it. There was no budging on this, and after further conversation they said that the manager would call the person who paid by Tuesday, and would not offer a number for us to call them on. We don't hold out much hope...

My mate and I popped in for lunch last Saturday to celebrate my birthday, and we had a cracking time. The grub was absolutely delicious, the gaff, bog included, was spotless, and the service was brilliant. I tucked into the mixed grill and jollof rice, which was easily the best I've ever had in any African restaurant. Top place, this – give it a go!

I placed an order for pick up at the Hendon restaurant on the 18th of April 2025 with Ranadeer. I collected my order only to fina that one of the items was wrong when I got home. I called the restaurant back and was told I will be issued a refund of £22 for the wrong item. I was very upset as the wrong item was inedible for myself and my family and I had to give it out so my family not only had less to eat but wasted money. For over three weeks now, I have been chasing the restaurant for the promised refund. The refund was meant to have arrived since 2 weeks ago but here I am weeks later still awaiting and chasing for the refund. Ranadeer and all the other staff I've spoken to at the Hendon branch have been giving me the run around and dodging. They claim a Mr James is the manager but never let me speak to him or will say he will call back but never any call back. I find this behaviour disgusting and unacceptable. This is why globally, they say Nigerians are scammers since this is the type of behaviour displayed even when conducting business!!! My birthday is coming up in June and I was ordered food from here (ordered over £100 worth of food) to test it out and potentially book the venue for a private event but this entire situation has really upset me to the point that I will rather go to another Nigerian restaurant. After all, Wazobia and Mama Calabar are also in the same vicinity as this restaurant in Hendon so l will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. Avoid this place and their shady business practices!!!!
