Marvin's food is fantastic! Marvin offers a ton of great French- American food. The service there at Marvin is a large thumbs up. The inside of the place has a lot of cans on the roof, for sound to come out. Overall, Marvin is the best French-American food place in LA

New York vibes in Beverly Grove! Super crowded and a nice spot to go for a date or group. We were a big group friends so even though we had a reservation it took them a while to seat us. But they made up for it and sent us some apps on the house. I loved loved loved the hamachi crudo it was amazing. The arugula fennel salad and chopped salad were very good too. I didn't like the Caesar salad it was way too fishy. Squash blossoms and truffle fries were a hit too. For entrees: We got the branzino and burger which were great too! I really didn't like the pomodoro or spicy vodka pastas and wouldn't get them again. I also don't love the steak as it's pretty salty. We got the date dessert which was good. Overall although not everything we got was excellent I did find some dishes that I would totally get again.

Overall, food was decent, but not really worth the prices. I enjoyed the jamon iberico as our starter. The veal chop was cooked decently with a nice crust but was underseasoned. Note that the space is cramped, with tables packed close together, and you really have to shout above the music and the surrounding conversations in order to be heard.

I recommend you make a reservation if you plan to dine during a popular time. The restaurant is a nice French style bistro, that seats patrons close together. I had the Cesar salad to start ($20) and steak frites ($69) which were both excellent and well portioned. This restaurant is good for a date, friends or family in town or an evening out. 20% gratuity is automatically applied.

The food was amazing and completely worth coming back for. The service was a little lackluster and at times a little rude. The space itself was cute, small and cozy. We ordered the fennel and arugula salad, which was super fresh and very tasty. The fried squash blossoms with marinara stuffed with cheese was definitely a must try. You have to get the rigatoni so much garlic we almost ordered a second one. the steak frites was cooked perfectly and was a great piece of meat. we added truffle and Parmesan to the fries which I would recommend if you want a little extra flavor. They also have a nice wine selection. If you're looking for great a meal with no interaction this is definitely the place to go. If you're looking for a friendly atmosphere and great service you might want to skip the space .

This is my favorite restaurant in LA. Anyone who is rating this less than five stars has no idea what they're talking about. The food is absolutely legendary. The wine list is sublime. Yes sometimes you have to wait but that's what happens when you're at an incredible restaurant. People that want to give lower stars because they have to wait a little bit are ridiculous. Don't try to hate on the restaurant down because you don't understand how restaurants work! Truly, there's not a bad thing on this menu. All the pastas are dream worthy and better than any Italian. The veal is incredible. One of the best cheeseburgers in LA. The meatballs are amazing. The burrata/honey/salami Devine. This is the place you want to go if you are in LA and want to go to a true neighborhood gem for people who understand quality.

Took my parents here on a Thursday night. My mom is very picky but I think she enjoyed her time here, so that's a win. Reservations were available day-of but filled up quickly. The place was well-decorated and on the emptier side, but we watched it fill up with happy parties as it got closer to 7. Impressive selection of expensive wines and a a lot of stand-out menu items. We ordered a selection: SALAMI BURRATA HONEY TOAST ($20) Best thing on the menu! Creamy, cheesy, sweet, with crispy fluffy toast. Would come again just for this. I had the salami on the side and found it easier to eat that way. TOFFEE DATE CAKE ($14) Caramely and saucy. My next favorite dish. Sooo moist. With that dollop of vanilla ice cream she's just divine. Caesar salad ($19) Got light dressing and it was pretty solid. A little on the fishy side. Huge not-too-crispy croutons. Rigatoni spicy vodka ($26) Loved the al dente pasta. We asked for mild spice level and it was definitely mild! Not the best vodka sauce I've ever had but far from the worst. The generous heap of fresh basil on top put a smile on my face. Marvin cheeseburger ($24) My mom loved it! I thought it was simple, not too flavorful, but very moist. The French fries on the side, though! Awesome fries! We gobbled them right up. Overall, a nice place to take the parents, especially if they're into wine. The burrata and dessert really impressed me! The rest I probably wouldn't order again, but nothing was bad.

Cute restaurant within walking distance of Largo. Service was gruff but not surprising considering the auto 20% service fee (they clarify this is not a tip so we left extra, but def undeserved considering the chilly attitude). Burger was decent but a bit bland, and we loved the squash blossoms. Cheapest bottle of red was $70. Tables are super close together so wouldn't recommend if you're going for a romantic vibe.

This place is a disgrace. I sat down for 30 minutes without even being acknowledged. The place was empty and no service. No menu, no nothing. Not until I walked out, they told me to have a good night. Bad service id be surprised if this place survives. Only thing keeping this place together is the random hipsters who think it's good.

This place has been talked about for awhile so I had to come and try it out. The toast ALONE was something that's been highly recommended so we ordered that to start, it was unreal, something I'd eat everyday if I can perfect the at home recipe lol. The zucchini blossoms were very cheesy - loved the tomato sauce on the side! We ordered some pastas for our entrees : cacio e pepe, spicy rigatoni & beef bolognese! I got the spicy rigatoni and cleared my plate. the other pastas were super good! I'd recommend them all! I didn't love the peach cobbler but my friends did! super cute intimate little spot serving up some really good food! Everything we got I'd get again and recommend - especially the toast!!! The male who helped our table was super sweet and helpful, we had a female waitress who was a bit rude to our table but whatever, the guy made up for it! Deducted a star due to the 20% surcharge which isn't the tip, that shocked us considering we already spent $240 on food/drinks, got that 20% surcharge & then we also had to tip 20%, so basically you're paying 40% extra on the tab.... Didn't love that at all.

Went here for the first time on recommendation from friends and we're not sure if we'll be back. At 6:45 on a Saturday and the place is mostly empty but fills up fairly quickly around 7:30. We got a nice little table in the back. The ambiance is interesting, empty coffee cans and Christmas lights line the ceiling with photographs scattered across the walls. At around 8pm they dimmed the lights so low that we were struggling to see each other across the table. Our server was nice and knowledgeable but spent more time walking around on his cellphone than coming by to take our order. We started with the salami burrata honey toast and the meatballs. The toast was excellent and the absolute winner of the meal. The meatballs were perfectly cooked however they had sausage that was seasoned with fennel which I really don't like but the acidity of the tomato cut back that flavor. For our entrees we got the burger and the bolognese. The burger was very tasty. The bolognese was also made with the same sausage but the fennel was so overpowering, I couldn't eat it. It tasted like a bowl of licorice. Everything was decently priced so we may give it a second chance. One thing to note, a 20% tip is automatically added to the total so make sure to double check your receipt before paying.

My favorite restaurant in la. I love the burrata and salami toast. I love the rigatoni bolognese. It feels like New York in there. Great place to go with friends or on a date

Came here for an after work happy hour that turned to a dinner and had the best time! We got there when it was completely empty, but sat at the bar the bartender gave us wine recommendations and was super helpful. We tried the potato chips & jamon snack which was really yummy and creative, but I will say $24 feels a bit steep for meet and cheese on potato chips. For dinner we got the vodka pasta, hamachi crudo, caesar salad, and brussel sprouts. Everything was good but the hamachi and vodka pasta was INCREDIBLE. Such a cute little spot, I'm excited to come back and try more of the menu!

If I could leave 0 stars that's what I rate this place. .. They charge a 20% service on every check regardless of the party size and so they don't care to give good service. Matt and Zeek are the two worst people at this Resturant! They are aggressive, rude and very dangerous waiters. I had a reservation here last night for dinner at 8:30. We called in advance to let them know our Uber was running 13 min late and they said it was fine. When we walked in 8:43 there were 4 empty tables. The waiter greeted us and said we'd get seated right away and then walked off and let us wait 15 min. After asking him what was going on with our table he apologized and said it was really busy, and then went ahead and offered us a drink for the delay. We sat down at 9pm, after he mentioned he can seat us due to someone canceling last min. As if our reservation didn't exist. When we got seated our waiter took our order and all of our food came out at once (not even 10 min later) except for our entrees which we threw in 5 min after our first initail order. By 10pm we still hadn't gotten our entrees so we asked and the waiter said it was coming out. Only to find out later from a different waiter that our entrees were only placed at 10pm when we asked our waiter what was up. When I jokingly mentioned to the waiter that he digit us he started to aggressively argue about it. To be honest. I don't need to argue with a waiter if he forgot my food or didn't. He doesn't need to justify that he forgot my food or point out that we were 15 min late. What does us being late have anything to do with him forgetting to put in our order over an hr after we got seated. The entree came out at 10:30 and then when we got the bill we noticed the 20% which they claim is for employee benefits. After our very uncomfortable experience we didn't think it was fair for to leave a 20% tip for such poor and aggressive, humiliating service. Then he and another waiter came to our table and started yelling and attacking us in the middle of the restaurant and told us to never return. All because we questioned the 20% service. It was so embarrassing. I had to apologize to my friends for bringing them to such a place. Not to mention the complimentary drinks he poured us while we were waiting for our table he added to our bill. When I mentioned that all hell broke loose. Both waiters ganged up on me and my two girlfriends as if we were 3 men. All we did was ask why they charged 20% service and why they charged us for the complimentary wine they offered while we were waiting to get seated. This place used to be my absolute favorite. I was a regular. Not sure what kind of drugs the waiters shoot up in the back but I will never return to here nor will I ever recommend this spot to anyone. What a shame. It was the spot I recommended most. I've sent so many people here. The vibe, the food and the wine was great but definitely not worth the poor and aggressive service.

Dining here before reading the reviews is very funny. We all had the same experience, it seems! Everything we ate was divine, with unexpectedly large portions! The lamb Ragú is a must, and I've never had such a full plate of crudo in Los Angeles. Service, however, has a lot of room for improvement. The team was attentive, which is why I leave four stars standing still. First step: an attitude check. The server approached and asked if we are ready, to which my mother said "I think we are looking at trying a bunch of small plates!" Most servers would suggest options, ask what you're in the mood for, etc. Ours said "then what do you want?" with a lovely scowl. Such a shame, really dampened our experience!

Marvin is super charming and lively, no matter when you're there. We celebrated my birthday dinner on a Wednesday night and the place was so lively! We were promptly seated for our 7:15pm reservation and service was perfect throughout the evening. The hamachi Crudo is stellar and must be ordered as is the burrata toast. The oysters weren't my favorite, but others in our party enjoyed them. The Caesar was a tad overly dressed for my liking, but again others seemed to enjoy it. For our entrees we loved our spicy vodka, bolognese and chicken parm! Portions were nice and the flavors were rich and hearty. We also got some amazing wines recommended by the staff! Overall, I'd like to come back and get some other menu items and enjoy the ambiance!

Truly delicious food. I go out to dinner about once a month with some gal pals, and this is the best food we've had in a long time. Three of us had porcini mushroom soup as a starter, and we all thought it was great. Then I had cacio e pepe pasta, which I asked to have light on the pepper, and it was, and very good too. I also had roasted vegetables; I asked to have just carrots and beets, which the kitchen kindly accommodated, and they were also great. Others in our group had a pork chop, a veal chop, and French fries, all of which were pronounced wonderful. And our waiter was delightful. But we wouldn't go back. Why? Too noisy to carry on a conversation -- we had to yell at each other. Or maybe we'll try going early at 5:30.

I finally had some time to check out Marvin! Even though I was somewhat wary due to the reviews on poor service, I have to say it wasn't that bad. There was one guy completely void of personality, but he wasn't rude by any means. After narrowing it down to pastas, I decided to try their Cacio e Pepe and as soon as the dish was put in front of me, I knew I made the correct choice. This was really good! The pepper was a little strong (which I hear is a good thing) but besides that, the flavor was excellent. When I asked for bread, the bartender was nice in letting me know it would be an additional charge, or she could just throw some together at no charge (minus the butter, etc.); this rustic bread was perfectly toasted and there was plenty of it. I would love to try any of their rigatoni pastas on a future visit, especially the spicy vodka version. There were quite a few surrounding parties ordering this, so I know it must be a good one. The only downfall is that 20% service charge; you're already paying an extra amount on top of the actual gratuity, which I'm sure a lot of people overlook. Nevertheless, the food here was enjoyable for sure.

When considering where to spend your $$, there are much better places. The audacity of charging 20% gratuity and then giving service way below the bare minimum. The food was fine, but the service deters me from ever coming back. The wine server looks like she rolled out of bed to come here and acts like you just woke her up. The food servers are surly when they talk to you, but mostly they do their best to entirely ignore you. This place sucks.

Where to start. Would have been a great experience until the check came. Should have announced the tip inclusion (no problem when people tell me). They also sneaked a menu item onto our check which when we asked they clearly knew to remove it... super shady. Super shady. Food was decent! Service sketchy.

I find it interesting that this is french fry, because the menu had different variety of things that didn't necessarily seem French. It has a very simple ambience. We came on a Saturday night. The staff took their time so that could be beneficial us to depending what you're looking for with a night out with friends or a dinner before you go out somewhere. The Hamachi Crudo stands out to me as an appetizer as well as zucchini blossoms. We also got the spicy rigatoni and the cacio e pepe which was a little too peppery for me and a lamb fussili, which is good if you really like Lam, I found the flavor to not be subtle. If I were to return, I would try the hamburger or steak frites. Bottles of wine start around $100.

20% service fee added to every bill. "THIS IS NOT A TIP. IT IS TO HELP PAY KITCHEN & MANAGERS, AS WELL AS SERVERS." Why not just increase menu prices instead of this bait-and-switch BS? What an awful business practice, I will call it out every time I see it. Otherwise, the food was great.

Solid food, little inconsistent, tables very close together. Food: The food is really nice. I've been there twice now and I'll say the steak was a bit inconsistent. Medium rare wasn't prepared the same each time and the second time was a bit more tough than the first. Minor inconvenience. Fries and dipping aioli were great though. Meatballs were a nice portion and very flavorful. I'll say my favorite dish was the salami honey & burrata cheese toast. Very nice mix of flavors. FYI I'm terms of alcohol: wine only. Service: Service was okay. They were friendly but didn't check in enough so I was left without water a couple times . Ambience: imo a bit bland. Tables are very close together so if you like eaves dropping, it's perfect :). There are a ton of cans hanging from the air which I can only assume will make the restaurant LOUD when busy. All in all I'd return and dine here again. One more time at least to test the consistency again.

Marvin is such a cute and cozy spot in the Beverly Grove area! They have a huge wine list- tons of bottles to choose from and about 10 different options if you want to go with a glass only- all I tried were great. For food- we got the burrata toast with honey and salami and the hamachi crudo- absolutely loved both!! The burger was solid- well seasoned, and the fries were so crispy and salty (in a good way)! For pasta- it was tough to make a decision but I went with the lamb fusilli and it was really good! It was rich and I loved that the sauce was a creamy white sauce which you wouldn't expect. The service was good, just not friendly, but that's ok with me because I got everything I needed! I'll definitely be back to this cozy wine bar with great food

I'm kind of surprised the Yelp ratings are so low; maybe I just went on the most perfect day! HAHA Everything we ordered was delicious and everyone was friendly and charming! They even offered us a glass of white wine as we wait for our bottle to be chilled-- I thought that was very thoughtful! We ordered: Caesar salad: just something simple for the table to share; my party did not enjoy this as much as I did but it was still something everyone picked at. Fried blossoms: different from a lot of other places I have tried, these were filled with gooey cheese inside, just how I like it! Absolutely delicious - I want to go back and get more of these. Steak tartare: Some of you might have figure out, but yes, I order steak tartare everywhere I go! It was fresh and the capers weren't overwhelming. Burrata honey salami toast: MUST GET! These were delightful! A little salty but sweet and the richness of the burrata finishes it off, I think I can just ... eat these all day. Cheese burger: My friend orders a burger everywhere she goes and Marvin was no exception. I was a little too full to try some but no one complained and it was completely done by the end of the dinner. Bolognese: I believe we went for the bolognese... it was a very hard decision between the bolognese or the spicy vodka but I remember it being delicious, this was also completely cleared by the end of the dinner. I honestly thought everything was good and the place was really cute. The servers were nice, it did get a little loud after 7-8PM. I recommend if you are in the area and want to have a quick drinks; not sure if they have great cocktails though we only had wine. I'm sure there are reasons why other's gave a lower rating but in my opinion this place was a gem and I can't wait to go back for more toast !

The food is fine, not sublime. Dishes are ridiculously overpriced; as are wines. Service was not obnoxious as I expected from reviews: gentle and easy, though we were early diners. Three stars is for your deeply lame and embarrassing 20% automatic tip for all party sizes. You're embarrassing yourself, Marvin owners: we know how to tip and tip well; you know how to pay a proper living wage to your staff, but you're choosing not to do it (COVID is over). In an improvement, you are transparently listing the fee on your menu, but even the language is misleading and extortionate: phrasing it as if servers aren't "front of house" and would get no gratuity if a diner doesn't add to the 20% automatic fee. And that you would structure your tab print-out so that I'm expected to calculate any additional tip on the initial total *including* your mandatory 20% fee? Unforgivable, really. Equal or better food is available elsewhere without all this excremental hoodwinkery. Vote with your feet and stroll to other, better karma places.

First time trying this spot and was not disappointed. Had dinner Friday night with a friend and the place was packed but luckily we were able to snag a spot outside which was nice. Waitress was pleasant and took our order right away. I ordered the rigatoni pomodoro, that was creamy and spicy but delicious and a chocolate soufflé, which truth be told was the reason I wanted to try this restaurant. My friend ordered a Caesar salad and a glass of orange wine and she said were both good. I will definitely be back again to try some other things.

I'm leaving 5 stars because the vodka pasta and burrata toast were the best things I've ever tasted in my life. Both were impeccable. We got the Ceaser salad but it tasted too fishy for me. They only served Wine or beer, would be great if they had cocktails. Great service and I love the decor. It felt relaxed but still fancy at the same time. Really love this place and can't wait to go back. Great date spot. We got the profiteroles that were okay and also the toffee date cake which was good. Wish they had the peach cobbler, it wasn't on the menu but I see it listed here on yelp. Also we got the fish and it was good.

Sunday was my first time dining for dinner and we all had a great experience. French cuisine is in my top three favorites so I try to go to every single one all over Los Angeles and this is definitely one of the better ones I've been to, and I have already been to over 15. Our server Zeke was very polite and attentive. The vibe on the inside is a mix between a traditional French bistro and a casual cocktail bar. The east side of the restaurant is the whole bar whereas the west side is where all the tables are, as well as outside seating. For my starter I chose the Steak Tartare and it was very good. I wish there was more bread on the side to spread but the taste and quality of the meat was perfect. For my entrée I chose the grilled Branzino and was very impressed. It was two large pieces with smooth mashed potatoes and herb roasted asparagus as sides. I have been having too many desserts recently so I skipped the option last night but they had chocolate soufflé and a toffee date cake on their menu that I plan to get in the future. All around a good experience and someplace I would return. The pricing is fair and if you're a fan of French bistros you will like this one as well. Parking is also very easy depending on the day and time but I had absolutely no trouble for my 7PM reservation.

Wait, what? The place is pricey AF and then they want YOU to essentially pay the staff. A 20% service fee, NOT. A tip and they essentially suggest you tip on top of that, if you're not a cheapskate... but the owner wants you to pay his employees. The food is good, but tack on another 20% and that burrata appetizer dish costs $24, that steak frites dish plus 20%, $78!!! Those two glasses of wine, $20 each... plus service fee, $48! Want something sweet for desert, toffee cake, $16.80 with the few. Don't be a cheapskate, the waiter worked hard, 18%... and you just spent $197 for dinner, before taxes! And you didn't dine alone, so multiple that by two... and I hope your job is secure or the trust will continue a while longer... very expensive and the 20% service fee is outrageous!

Cozy spot with great pastas and wine! Staff is knowledgeable about their wine pairings. The ragu is the perfect winter comfort meal and the spicy vodka rigatoni has a nice kick but is well balanced. The meatballs and arugula fennel salad made for nice starters! Would definitely go back!

Marvin was such a great surprise! I love hole in the wall places that don't have ridiculously flashy advertising and parking was very easy (plenty of street parking). The bar can get a little crowded but theres plenty of table seating as well. We started with the Salami toast and octopus apps, which were both stellar in flavor and cooked perfectly, then ordered the Veal and Chicken Rapini. At first I was skeptical about the Rapini because there were no photos on yelp so I thought it may be a new item. When asked, they said it had been an item on the menu for a while so I decided to give it a go. It was delicious! Its like eating chicken soup in a pasta dish. We finished with a refreshing key lime pie slice that was perfectly tart and sweet. I would say its perfect for friend gatherings and date nights, will definitely be back!

Watch out for the small print on the menu of 20% service fee added to your bill. Basically you end up paying 38% fee including tips for your meal. Outrageous!!!

Great atmosphere, great al fresco dining, and great decor. The food is amazing. Must recommend the Ratatouille Toast. I'm not the biggest fan of vegetables, but this was so good. The crunch and chew from the bread blended so well with the butter and delicate vegetables. The steak frites was cooked to perfection. I recommend bringing sunglasses if sitting outside. Parking is pretty much metered street parking.

Took my niece here for dinner . I had developed a migraine somehow on the way. So I didn't eat anything . The waiter was sympathetic. So I proceeded to just sit back and let my niece do as nieces do. I don't know why, the waiter pushed a certain wine . The pour was far from generous. She had a second . 20 dollars a glass. Cool. She had the salami toast . Loved it. She ordered steak frites medium rare. The steak was done medium or med well. I don't know about you , but if I order a steak mid rare I expect that for 65 dollars . I could see that it was over cooked . Nieces do not like sending stuff back or mentioning it . So I let it go . But I was disappointed . If I want to spend 200 dollars a person, I'll go to jar or marcels and get more for my money and better quality. Jar will not screw up a steak. Also apparently it was happy hour ? Didn't hear anything about it.

I got sick after eating here tonight. The wine was good, but the kitchen didn't smell good, I should have known better. I have eaten here two times before with no problem. There is something not right here.

Wine was ok, few choices when it comes to wine by the glass which is understandable due to opened wine shelf life, however, it seemed as if we were bothering the servers, I understand customer service is hard but if you don't like it get another job and allow paying customers to have a pleasant dining experience. Server was argumentative and it seemed like he had better stuff to do. There are a lot of other places in LA, this was on my friend's bucket list for a long time, first and last time. Your customers are what keeps your business open, please put some effort into your customer service. Thank you

Came here on a Tuesday night with a reservation and they told us to wait until our table was ready. We waited for 30 minutes, even with a reservation and when they did seat us the table they gave us was so small and it only fit two people comfortably. We asked to be sat somewhere else since it was 3 of us and there was not enough space on the table. So we waited another 15 minutes for another table. Finally after a 7:30 reservation we were finally ready to order at 8:45ish. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a couple things to share and wow everything was great. We ordered a couple things but the fries, spicy rigatoni, the fried blossom were just WOW. They only have wine and beer options. For dessert, The soufflé was disgusting! And the Cesar salad was just ok. Do not order those.

SO good! Fun vibe, great service and delish food. Great neighborhood spot. Can't wait to go back. Hope they serve cocktails soon.

One of my favorite restaurants in LA. I've never had a reservation and never sat at a table. I'm always a walk in and I've always gotten a spot at the bar. Love it! The pasta is cooked to perfection! I've never had a bad meal at Marvin's and the playlist is always so good! Kudos to whoever plays DJ for the night!
