The Best Cake Bakeries in Austin

"This bakery that originated in Taiwan has awesome sweets by the slice or by the cake. In addition to sweet and milk buns, try tiramisu cake, a vanilla chiffon cake and lemon filling topped with whipped cream and fresh berries, or basque cheesecake. Round out the order with a boba tea. Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor dine-in areas." - Courtney E. Smith, Britt Hayes

22 Austin Bakeries With Outstanding Baked Goods

"85C Bakery is nicknamed the “Starbucks of Taiwan” for good reason: there’s an array of bread like milk bread and soft brioches, sweet and savory pastries filled with red beans, ham, cheese, and chocolate, as well as European-styled cakes and fun teas and boba teas. The pudding one is worth a try. The egg tarts are excellent as well. There’s a second location down on Airport Boulevard in Highland. Takeout orders can be placed in person or online; both are open for indoor dine-in services." - Nadia Chaudhury

Absolutely love this place! 85°C Bakery Cafe at Lakeline is hands down one of my favorite spots for coffee and pastries in the area. The variety of freshly baked goods is incredible—everything from sweet to savory, and all perfectly made. Their sea salt coffee is a must-try—rich, creamy, and just the right amount of salty to balance the sweetness. The store is always clean and well-organized, and the staff are consistently friendly and helpful. I love that you can see the bakers at work behind the glass—it makes everything feel so fresh and inviting. Whether I’m grabbing a quick bite, meeting a friend, or just craving something comforting, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the Lakeline area. You won’t leave empty-handed!

Google
The pastries here are fantastic. I want to try every single one of these delicious treats! The one that stood out was a strawberry loaf. It's literally just a little bread with some cream inside and it was like eating a fluffy strawberry pillow that made all of my wildest dreams come true.

Google
Lovely arrangement of unique pastries, cakes, sandwiches, and more. Milk tea, coffee drinks and boba drinks can be ordered at a kiosk here. Some tables are available inside as well as restrooms. The space is clean and easy to navigate. If you are buying pastries you can grab a hand basket or tray and gather all the sweet treats and savory goods. Sandwiches can also be heated up if you ask! The service was friendly and quick. Thai tea boba was very sweet but delicious. Bought some pastries to bring home. Can’t wait to come back and try some more!

Google
Very nice place. It has a lot of varieties of bread and drinks. The most popular done is the egg tart since they always run out at the end of the day so I would recommend coming here earlier in the day. The staff is nice and very quick to prepare your order. The milk tea is very decent, always tasty 10/10 would recommend to everyone.

Google
Pastries are pretty good. Place is great for cheap boba. The regular milk tea and Thai tea flavours are good. Don't get the oolong milk tea, it was straight ass.

Shruti Subramanian

Google
Crowd sure said how popular they are. The desserts are delicious. The mango panacota was my favourite. The mango roll and chocolate cake were good too

Google
Tasty, and fresh! This is one of my favorite bakeries, I first discovered it in Houston and wished forever that they would open here in Austin. Their pastries aren’t overly sweet or too bready- and they are just the perfect amount of fluffy. I order the iced grapefruit jasmine green tea with boba all the time. All of their coffees are delicious as well but definitely have to adjust the sweetness level to 1/4 because they are SWEET. 1/2 if I’m feeling daring.

Danda Naveen

Google
Great collection of bakery items to choose from. Most of them were just as mild as we would need. Not sweet but good enough. Got few savoury items as well with different combinations. Good beverage section to choose from and few of those restaurants where I have seen sugarless options.

Yelp
Favorite bakery! Everything is so good here! It's busy all the time so be patient it is worth the wait. Every location is amazing!

Yelp
85C is an Asian buns staple! They always have a good selection of different kinds of breads, pastries, and drinks. And it's always so delicious! Only complaint is that they put the self serve kiosk right behind the line for the counter so it completely blocks the way of anyone trying to walk through. Especially when the line is long.

Yelp
I am now addicted to this place the sea salt caramel coffee is to die for! Bathrooms are always clean Service is always spot on Some time busy but super fast service The food is fantastic The premade food so good as well I have gone down the list and tried almost all the sweets there next is the cakes in the glass case!! I never get to take pics because I eat and drink everything so fast can't stop now!
google avatar

Yelp
My kids absolutely love this bakery! The treats are delicious, and my son says they serve his favorite boba. The seating area is fine, and the employees were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This little bakery is right next to H Mart. It's basically the same thing as tours de jour. I've gone about two or three times with my husband now. The lines can vary in length, but there is usually always a line of some kind. Thankfully, it goes pretty quickly. Given the amount of people that frequent this bakery, they may want to consider a little more indoor seating. But regardless, I've never had an issue thus far finding a place to sit and enjoy my goods. I generally grab about two bakery items, and I will order a hot tea along with it. My husband will usually get a coffee drink, a Boba tea or a Thai tea. we've never had any complaints, everything is always delicious. We will continue to frequent this location!

Yelp
85 degrees has the best taro bun! Their pastries are delicious; however, not being much of a cake lover - My partner surprised me with a variety of sliced cakes which was perfect for me. The tiramisu was fresh, very bold, and would go very well with coffee. The mango cheesecake was refreshing, but not so much my preference and as for the strawberry layered crème, absolutely delicious. What a surprise! 85 degrees never disappoints. Every time I am in Austin, this is always a place on my list to drop by before making the drive back home. I can't wait for your opening in San Antonio!

Yelp
The best treats and a very cute interior! Bakeries like this one have such plentiful options and you really can't go wrong with any of them - highly recommend

Yelp
If you find yourself at the H Mart Korean store, this is just 50 yards past their door. This place is very popular and has one of the most unique selections of bakery goods you'll find anywhere. They also have a very wide selection of drinks and specialty coffees. They have two tables inside to dine at along with a few chairs to sit at. They do have four tables outside as well. The prices here are reasonable and you won't be hit with the tip screen when you run your card. There's usually a short line, but it's worth the wait. I just wish this place was closer to home. Informative photos included.

Yelp
My most favorite bakery in Austin! There's a wide variety of yummy baked goods, from garlic bread to mini pizza, almond croissants, cakes, pastries and so much more... everything is fresh and delicious! I love that the cakes and pastries are not too sweet and the fruit flavors are so real. My favorite is the mango creme brulee cake but I also like the black forest pastry a lot.

Yelp
I've been to 85°C Bakery Cafe many times in Los Angeles, but it's been many years since I stepped into one of their locations. I paid a visit to the Lakeline location this morning and was once again mesmerized by the variety of sweet and savory goods all around. It took a while for me to choose, but I eventually selected the spinach and cheese danish as my savory selection, and shared two cakes (deluxe strawberry and black forest). The danish was pretty good, could have used more filling, but the deluxe strawberry cake made up for it. The black forest cake was also good, but after a certain point it go to be too much chocolate for me. The best part of my meal however was the hot sea salt caramel coffee. The first couple sips really hit hard on the salt but it really is good! Such a refreshing flavor profile and is probably what will have me back at 85 once again.

Yelp
85C Bakery is my favorite places to go when I crave an Asian bakery. This is not exactly a French quality bakery, but they have baked goods and bread that I'm familiar with and grew up eating. Some of my favorite items are: - Mochi egg tarts - two of my favorites in one dessert, yes please! - Red bean bun (their bread is gluten full which makes it chewy and soft)! - Aussie meat pie - it warms up nicely in the oven (a must for full deliciousness), meaty and spicy good & Spinach Kale Danish. Both pair well with coffee in the morning - Hokkaido chiffon cupcakes - soft, spongy & delicious! - Fresh strawberry cream cake- delish! - Caramel pudding - pillowy soft and delicious! - Japanese Milk toast - perfect for making Japanese egg sandwich. I am always impressed by how their staff at the checkout remember all baked goods and code them correctly in the receipt every time. It's busy during the weekend and evenings so come early for more selection (before things run out) and to avoid crowds or long checkout line. BE WARNED if you order drinks, it will take time (they have never gotten efficient at making drinks). We often stop by this bakery whenever we go grocery shopping at H Mart; kill two birds with one stone or in this case, you can get a meal (or cooked meal from H Mart food court) and desserts too at one stop!

Yelp
They told me they are out of large cups for Thai milk tea (which is only Large size available), they asked me if they could split them into a medium cup. U JOKING WITH ME? I've seen the new guy who's making the drink today keep making drinks way not enough of regular amount. But this is split of Large drink. You at least fill them up to 2/3 of the cup when customer genuinely excused to use medium cups to split the large since the bakery is out of large cups. This is barely reaching the Half of the medium cup. What a service. AND FOR GOD's SAKE. IT'S JULY IN TEXAS. TURN THE FREAKIN' A/C ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was 105 degree outside and I was suffocating inside waiting in the line today!!! When you see everyone's sweating and looks like they are overheated, THEN TURN THE FREAKIN' A/C ON. It's a bakery!!!! OMG
google avatar

Anurag S.

Yelp
Mind blowing coconut strudel. They run out of it pretty soon. Go get it before it disappears
google avatar

Brooke D.

Yelp
I have been here a couple times since my last review and I just love this spot! I got this sausage pastry last time I was in which was so delicious. The coffee and pastries here and always so good and such a great price. I think everyone needs to come here and grab a pastry and coffee if you live in the area.
google avatar

Thu T.

Yelp
Great drinks, tasty pastries, and solid price! Their black and oolong milk tea has really strong tea flavor. Green milk tea is alright, I would not strongly recommend. Fruit tea (passion fruit and grapefruit) is very refreshing as well. Tiger Boba Latte is the drink to order if you're craving something sweet and happy :) Chewy boba, fragrant brown sugar flavor combined with the milk equals perfection. Super high calorie tho so just watch out lol Pastries are made with asian taste and they are awesome. My favorites: Cream Boroh Danish (unfortunately, the filing becomes less and less as time goes by), egg tarts (asian egg tart, fluffy and eggy, a little different than the Portuguese kind) Leena is such a sweet heart. She remembers us and always gives us the best service with the biggest smile. There are a few seats inside and outside for you to enjoy your drinks and hang out with friends. **No WiFi **Download their app. They offer sweet treat for app users (discounts for specific drinks each month)

Yelp
This is the one place we have been wanting to hit....and boy was it a Hit. Ample seating indoors if you have "work" to do...fast and friendly counter service.....But The love hate relationship starts when you walk thru the door with the sheer selection of items and having to decide on what to get...So...we had to have a cinnamon roll, which is huge and has 4 servings...well 2 but whose counting...and the Coffee Cruffin with the most amazing cream inside...both were outstanding....but what made the trip even better...to find out there is one located on Airport Blvd....which we frequent often...So a return trip is on the radar.
google avatar

Mahima U.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries in Austin. All of their products are delicious, I love how the sweetness level is so well balanced. All the baked goods feel so light to eat. Their beverage menu is another great thing. And cakes, OMG.... AMAZING!!! You have to go here if you haven't, you'll fall in love!! AND, their prices make so much sense!!!
google avatar

Leslie C.

Yelp
Drive here immediately and get the cinnamon roll. You can thank you me later! I am not a big sweet/pastry/bread person but I could live off their cinnamon roll and be happy for the rest of my life.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Such an incredible spot! Had the Rose Milk tea, milk pudding, coconut custard, coconut twist and the taste of everything was amazing! I like how the baked goods aren't too sweet with tons of flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
I first encountered 85° during my college years in California, and it remains a steadfast favorite. It was at their establishment that I experienced my inaugural Thai tea with boba. Consistency is a hallmark of their brand, and I've never encountered disappointment at any of their locations. This specific branch consistently attracts a considerable number of patrons, particularly on weekends. The quality of their pastries is consistently top-notch, and the diverse array of beverage options has always been a reliable choice for me. The staff consistently exudes warmth and hospitality, enhancing the overall positive experience.

Lin Hao P.

Yelp
Cooking Paper found out from inside the strawberry cake. That's not good at all. And yelp why waste people's time asking for 85 character? Discourage bad review?
google avatar

Marissa L.

Yelp
Came here after having dinner at Hmart to get some baked goods desserts. I got my usual chocolate buns and they were great. There wasn't much of a line here in the early evening and they even had some nice seating for the rest of my family to wait for me while I picked out some goodies. Good spot, good bakery and good service.
google avatar

Lyla A.

Yelp
They never have the order ready, even when it's 2 drinks, with a 25 min wait and no line inside. Why offer online ordering if you don't make it until someone comes in to pickup and says they have an online order? Then make them wait another 10 mins? This is how they operate consistently. Advice. Don't order online. Go in and order. It'll be faster.
google avatar

Venice B.

Yelp
why am i now just discovering how good their iced sea salt caramel coffee is? 11/10 beverage. 85 degrees is my go-to whenever i'm craving asian pastries. i love their cheese bread, ube bread, and brioche. rose milk tea is also an honorable mention. loveeeee 85!
google avatar

Chantel G.

Yes yea yes yes Best breads hands down So many flavors from the bread to the drinks loaded with flavor you can't just pick one Bread and even if u feel like u have a favorite u still have to try another kind -Inside lots of seating n very clean -Tricky on the parking because it's next to so many other shops -pricing VERY reasonable for the quality ur receiving -customer service nvr met anyone upset or rude here - become a rewards member u get lil perks

Ruthie P.

Yelp
Stopped here recommended by family. Very quick service for to go orders. Happening place with a lot of people in and out. You pick the bakery/pastries made fresh and then you go pay. I got spicy sausage and that was tasty. Jalapeño bread was made with cream cheese is delicious . My youngest loved the Taro boba tea and said it was the best he has had. Caramel macchiato was actually hot temperature wise and tasted good. If you are looking for fresh bread and good drinks, definitely a place to try.
google avatar

Destini W.

Yelp
Practically the best bakery I've ever tried, especially knowing that it is a chain-store. The service and quality of pastries are always top-tier. The pork pastries are such a guilty pleasure and nearly every pastry here is perfect. It's also a good place to unwind and chat with a friend. Overall, a great bakery with good food & atmosphere.
google avatar

Michaela M.

Yelp
I have been dying to visit once I heard about this location and had to bring my children as they love H Mart. We were looking forward to trying the Japanese fluffy cheesecake but ended up getting far more. $70 later and we had an entire kitchen table full of sweet treats to sample from at home. We will for sure be returning!

Kelly C.

Yelp
I waited 40 minutes for my single drink order. The service was unacceptable and I watched several people get their orders before me. I felt that my needs were not met and after waiting 35 minutes they made my order wrong. Really disappointed 85 celsius bakery cafe!
google avatar

Ling M.

Yelp
I love this place, but my only complaint is that they always seem to be understaffed. It's consistently busy with long lines, and they often have only one cashier, resulting in slow service. Yesterday, frustrated by the wait, I had to leave the line and went to Tous Les Jours next door. By the time I finished there, the people who were in front of me were still waiting in line here. I would recommend this place only if you have plenty of time to wait.

Fernanda P.

Yelp
Recently moved to the area and decided to try this location out since we loved the one back home. First, we went and the customer service was awful but most importantly, we got a few of their chocobuns and when we got home and split it open, there were these white looking worm things I wanted to throw up.

Genevieve R.

Yelp
Great coffee and oh, the pastries were delicious. We will definitely be back. I ate a coconut Swiss roll and I will be back to put strawberries with it.
google avatar

Tae-Young U.

Yelp
I love 85 bakery! I will say that their price has increased and their bread has gotten smaller over the last few years, but that's almost every other place. I love their sea salt drink line, especially the green tea. It's sweet but has a hint of saltiness that makes me want to continue drinking more. Their mango slush is also very good and refreshing (I love getting this in the summer!) I've pretty much tried almost everything at this bakery. Some of my favorites are the milk tea bun, spinach danish, and egg tart. The milk tea bun is quite sweet but has a filling that includes tapioca! It's a unique texture that may not fit everyone's palate. I love warming up the spinach danish and having it for breakfast. It's the perfect amount of flakiness from the pastry and saltiness from the spinach filling. The egg tart here is one of the best I've had. Whether it's cold or hot, it tastes amazing. It's super creamy and makes a perfect dessert ! I love getting the 6 package ones as a gift for people.
google avatar

Ximena S.

Yelp
Very delicious and beautifully presented bakery goods, coffee and tea! The variety of buns, cakes and more are likely to please the most picky of eaters! The items are always individually wrapped and the drinks made to order. You can also custom order cakes and some desserts. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because their app is not user friendly and they always seems to have "trouble" applying their promotions and coupons. Also, they definitely need to take better care of their restrooms because I don't know about other customers but I find that to be a reflection of how their kitchen and behind the scenes environment must be. Overall though I much rather buy in this bakery than the one in the grocery store in the same block. Better prices and quality imo. The only item you may miss from the other (popular) place is their sweet cream bread.
google avatar

Anusha R.

Yelp
My favourite bakery in Austin so far. They have such delicious and new pastries and bread. The rack is so full of amazing stuff you'd wanna get. The buns and bread are so soft. Ube buns and muffins are yummy. I love the croquettes too. Coffee is divine. I keep visiting so often. The staff is extremely friendly and the place has a very cozy feel to it.
google avatar

A W.

Yelp
I can't get enough of the jalapeño cream cheese bread at 85. Love the people here. I also love the 85 degree coffee. On my most recent visit, my drink was 75% ice! This photo was after an hour of melt. Next time I'll stick with the hot drinks.
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
This is a decent bakery with a good range of baked goods. My toddler devoured the ham and cheese bun, and I enjoyed a cream-filled bun. It was delicious! Not too sweet and filling. This bakery's only downside is the extended weekend wait times. It is challenging to find parking at this location. I had to have my husband drop me off at the door. Also, the only milk alternative they offer is soy.
google avatar

Samarth P.

Yelp
Too long lines. But great Tea. Tried Muffin. Loved it. Has outdoor space. Much better if there's a long line inside.
google avatar

Abby T.

Yelp
They have delicious egg tarts and so many great pastries. There are many choices of drinks from coffee or tea.

Yusef A.

Yelp
It was so amazing the food looked fake so I was skeptical then I grabbed one and it was real it looked right out of an anime it's so amazing and it tasted better than it looked I recommend this to anyone and everyone.
google avatar

Elise N.

Yelp
My daughters love coming here. So many choices plus drinks. The seating area doesn't get cleaned that often so table tops can be dirty. You can definitely take stuff to go. So yummy.
google avatar

Sophia G.

Yelp
I want to give a huge thank you to 85 degrees management team. I greatly appreciate you guys for making things right. I honestly can't explain how meaningful their help and attention to my problem was. They answered my question and made me very happy with their decision. All I can do is thank them. I'm happy, my tea was great, and I'll come back after all. I had a much better experience this time around. It was actually busier than the first night I went in. And the employees definitely cared more. Paid attention more and was extremely helpful as well. I'm in the area a lot so I'll be stopping by a lot too. Thank you so much guys!!
google avatar

Molly F.

Yelp
The milk tea bun is absolutely delicious. It's light and fluffy with a milk tea custard filling. I also tried the Black Forest slice which has whipped cream, chocolate cake, and cherry filling with chocolate shards on top. The Hokkaido custard bun was also amazing and the custard was more like a whipped cream filling but airy as well. It was dusted with a powdered sugar on top. I recommend the buns over the cake but that was my preference. I'd like to try their drinks the next time I stop in. It was very busy when I went and the staff were trying to keep up with the line. I got my order to go.

Debbie ..

Yelp
Went to this location for the first time and I Have to say they had some good bakery items, it was busy but the service line went by quickly, very friendly young people working their, I personally liked it and they are building one in San Antonio Yay me!
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Not only do they have pretty great boba tea, Yvonne, one of the cashiers, is always so friendly and personable, making it feel more like a local place. She remembers customer names, is friendly with young kids and is just fantastic.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
THE BEST BAKERY I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! I live out of Austin, but will gladly take trips to visit 85°. Prices are great; food quality is amazing; the staff works hard to get customers in and out with great customer service.
google avatar

Tracy C.

Yelp
I found this place searching for a birthday cake for my daughter. They have ube, which she loves. The cake was lovely and delicious. Nothing was too sweet, and the icing wasn't that stuff that leaves a film in your mouth a la grocery store bakeries. After that, she and I went in to see what other things we could find. Of course, that was the day before Thanksgiving, so it was packed. The line moved pretty quickly and we found some treats for everyone in the house. I even grabbed a loaf of brioche for French toast. We'll be back to eat and drink our way through everything we can!
google avatar

Yelp
85C has been my solid go-to since its inception in Irvine, CA back in 2008. However, now that I am vegan, I am very limited with my options as all of their bakery menu seems to be non-vegan and all but one (Tiger Boba Latte) milk teas can be substituted with soy milk. Still, I'm hopeful that they'll slowly implement more plant-based options as I noticed that they began selling bakery items with Impossible meat (Aussie Meat Pie Bread)!

Melinda W.

Yelp
This place was great in the beginning. The last two visits were my last. Their bakery treats are cute but tasteless. And after getting very sick on two different occasions after eating one of them, I will never trust them again. Not only that but they've increased their prices and skimped out on the tapioca portions, which I paid extra for. My drink barely had any in it, not even visible without looking at the very bottom of my cup. They did give me more when I asked but then noticed they charged me twice for one of the bakery treats. It was an ordeal to get it refunded. Worst visit ever!
