888 Hokkien Mee (Lebuh Presgrave)

"For 30 years, this small outlet has been serving Hokkien-style noodles in prawn soup. The soup has a beautiful rich red colour and sweet umami flavour. Add a little textural variety to your bowl with tasty options such as braised pork ribs or roasted pork – both highly recommended." - Michelin Inspector

Google
Legendary Prawn noodle soup that lives up to the hype. It is located in a coffee shop with many other food options to order in from. The broth was thick and full of umami. You can choose any of the 7 toppings of which I choose roast pork (decently crispy), pork intestines (no smell and tender), hard boil egg and pork ribs (not nice as it was chewy). All tables need to order a drink and I choose calamansi and longan which came In a bottle. We order the In house oyster omelette but it was terrible.

I noticed this spot has Michelin award, made it so tempting to visit. Hokkien mee taste so good, not so thick broth but has strong shrimp flavor. Topped with pork slices and fried shallots, you can add on with several options. I chose roasted pork and turned out it's a good combination. The broth was so fresh, fragrant and the pork was so crunchy even it was dip in the broth. Portion was standard but full of meat. Service is quiet ok. Then you got affordable price. Recommended.

I found this place from a YouTuber. After we got out of the Grab, we saw a line and that’s when I knew this place was the real deal. We got noodles, egg, roasted pork, and I think pork ribs. This was from May 2025. Noodles were chewy. The meat was tender. The star of the show was the broth. The broth was very flavorful, I wished we ordered another bowl because it was so good. Prices were cheap. When you sit down, you have to order a drink.

If you’re exploring Penang’s legendary food scene, 888 Hokkien Mee is a name that often comes up — and for good reason. Open only from the late evening until around 9:30 p.m., it’s not exactly day-tripper friendly, but if you can stay till dinner, it’s well worth the effort. The first thing that hits you is the aroma rising from the bubbling pot filled with pork, pork intestines, and prawns — all lending their rich flavours to the broth. The soup itself is incredibly flavourful and leans toward the spicy side, which might be a bit much for those who prefer milder tastes, but it’s heaven for spice lovers. A bowl here comes generously topped with prawns, thin slices of pork, half a hard-boiled egg, and tender pork ribs that practically melt off the bone. The final touch of crispy golden-brown shallots adds depth and crunch, tying everything together into a truly satisfying meal. We also ordered the char kuey teow and omelet, and both were solid — holding up well to the high standard Penang is famous for.

A penang hokkien mee place with Michelin award. Went to try and it was actually really good! The portion is small but flavor was good! Super tasty! The queue is long but moves fast, it’s a place with no table service (unlike other Penang hawkers), you’ll need to carry the bowls yourself. The place is crowded with tourists!

Personally I like the old kopitiam style where people eat in one place without any fancy stuff going on, you only go for the food, the hokkien noodle is the famous one, but the Loh noodle and fried oysters are good as well. The only thing I don’t like is the environment here is quite hot, and the queue can be quite long during the peak hour.

Amazing Hokkien Mee with friends over dinner. Ordered Hokkien Mee with pork, my friends ordered with pork and intestines, and we were all very pleased. I felt like the portions of noodles were slightly low, if I'd go back id ask for an extra portion of noodles (+1 MYR). Cold beer also sold on premise, which pairs to perfection with this hot meal!

It serves good food, but overall the experience is just average. Prices are on the higher side, possibly due to the growing number of tourists. The environment is extremely hot — with so many customers in a limited space and poor ventilation, it can get quite uncomfortable. Worth trying if you don’t mind the heat and the price.

Yelp
This place is Michelin mention for 2 consecutive years. We were very excited. We came at the opening time 3pm. We were the first customers while they just set up ready to go. You have to order at the entrance and bring your own food to the table. I feel their soup is modified not traditional prawn Mee soup base. We also order the oyster pancakes which is much better food. The ice drink and shave ice also great there for hot day.

Yelp
Currently the best classic Hokkien mee in Penang. The broth is neutrally sweet, and has strong prawn flavor. Chili is fragrant, ingredients are fresh. Crowded but crowd turns over quickly. Strictly no outside food

Yelp
We were there at 5.30 p.m. and the stall was already opened but some surrounding shops had not opened yet. That's how we ended up eating lor bak at the wrong stall but it's not bad. The good lor bak is from a cart on the street. The Hokkien prawn noodle soup was excellent. Much better than the one at Kedai New Cathay. Chilli was good too. This one gives you the kick. Well worth the 30 minute queue.

Yelp
Locals come here, local tourists come here, foreign tourists come here. If you're looking for awesome hokkien mee/prawn noodles, look no further. As usual with kopitiams, first have your travel buddy get or wait for a seat (going there alone can be a challenge). Then get in line at the hokkien mee stall at the entrance, place your order, wait for them to prepare your order, and self serve it to your seat. Enjoy the noodles with the rich prawn based broth, one of the best in Penang/Malaysia. After you're done, order the cendol/ais kacang as dessert to wash it all down. Since the portion of the hokkien mee is usually small, do consider walking around to the next door stalls to order other stuffs. They will still serve it to your table. Parking can be a challenge here, so taking Grab/cab is recommended.
