The Best Soul Food In NYC

"95 South Soul is a bit of a party spot. Regulars hold court along the big bar during two-for-one Happy Hour and there’s always a DJ. But don’t just come for drinks, because they also have some of the best soul food in Brooklyn. We usually go for the jerk chicken or the fried catfish, which is fluffy inside with a crispy outer crust. You can get both of those as a sandwich with salad or fries, or go for the plate so you can get candied yams and a big portion of mac and cheese on the side." - bryan kim, neha talreja, kenny yang, will hartman, willa moore

We were there on Tuesday, July 29th for my man 64th birthday party! We had an absolute blast!! The place was beautiful inside! The service, the food and the drinks were excellent!! The DJ was the absolute best!! A friendly atmosphere! My man had the time of his life!! This is definitely a “Happy Place”! Thanks to all staff in this fine establishment!

Went there for dinner on a Saturday evening and had a great time. The restaurant was full but not too crowded. The music was 90s hip-hop/r&b that I found myself really enjoying. The best part was the food. The food is amazing!!! I got salmon with candied yams and collard greens. Absolutely amazing! Everything was cooked to perfection. I will definitely be back and I 100% recommend it to anyone that loves soul food.

Went here with some friends for brunch and was a bit disappointed. For starters upon arrival the restaurant looks closed for the outside , luckily one of the staff members were outside and invited me in. Upon entering, the restaurant is very spacious and clean.( I can easily see this as the perfect venue to throw an event) . I ended up getting there way ahead of my two friends and the bartender took pity on me and offered me a mimosa on the house, which tasted amazing. Once my friends arrived, we ordered a plethora of food ranging from chicken and waffles, steak and eggs, fish and grits along with a picture of mimosas. my friend seem to enjoy their food. However, I thought the food was a bit underwhelming (I had the chicken and waffles). please know this is personal preference and also know that I’ve brunched quite a bit, and this was very underwhelming to me simply on taste. My friends seem to have enjoyed their food and didn’t make any complaints. The service was great and not too long after my friends arrived, so did the DJ. Pros: Very nice vibey atmosphere, especially once the music is going. The staff are very nice and accommodating as they needed to be a few changes made to one of my friends order because she is vegetarian. Although I did not like my food, the portion sizes were really good, especially for the price and they have vegetarian options. CONS: when they have brunch, that is the only thing available to order which sucks because the brunch menu is very limited in comparison to their dinner menu. I do think I’ll return as I do think they’re done the menu is much more appealing to me. It seems like the night scene is where it’s at up in there lololol. So for now until next time as I’ll definitely be back..

Wow, this place was great. It was recommended to us, and it lived up to the expectations. The server was cool. She made small talk with us. The drinks were strong. Thank you to the bartender. You must try the Ohhhh Weeeee. Had two, and I am feeling it. No, i was not driving. The food was fresh cooked to order. So expect a little wait. You will not be disappointed. I recommend the salmon burger. It was moist. Cook to perfection.

Leah was EVERYTHING—our waitress, bartender, and host all in one! She took our order without even writing it down and nailed it. Drinks? On point. Service? No delays. The atmosphere was pure vibes—grown folks only. We had to head out for the Travis Malloy show, but the DJ was just getting started and it was about to be a whole *vibe*. **All the food was good**—from start to finish. And don’t sleep on the cornbread… cinnamon and butter topping? *Yyyyyyyeeeeeesssss!* The bill for four was more than fair, and the energy at the bar was live—people were laughing, dancing, and just having a good time. Big love to Brooklyn for the invite. We’ll definitely be back. Cause guess what? *We outside!*

Google
It's always a good time. Thursdays are a whole vibe(karaoke). Drinks are great, food is good.

Google
Food there is really good soul food. Music is oldies but goodies. (Im 31) and they play the good stuff lol. But the atmosphere is a vibe the crowd is a bit older but there has never been any drama there.

Google
Got my food to go during the West Indian parade and it was the best soul food I had experience so far in NYC, Laurence the chef wasn’t joking about his catfish, the green been also tasted amazing and the Mac and cheese it was definitely different from the average, I’ll be definitely looking forward to have a proper dinner at his venue

Yelp
This place is a one of a kind neighborhood spot. Def a great place to go for a pre-game or a karaoke night. Food: 3.7/5 the food wasnt bad, the sweet potato fries were very fresh and yummy but the grilled chicken was just ok. Drinks 5/5: These are slap you in the face drinks the bartenders do not come to play which is why I think this would be a great place to have a few drinks before a party or event. Service: Great bartenders overall, you can tell that there are alot of regulars who come because of these bartenders and thats what really makes a neighborhood place special. The music is good, mostly hip hop and R&B so if you are looking for a black owned vibe this is your place.

Yelp
Stop trying to serve scrap for $8 taking two chicken wings and cut them up as a joke and a piece of fish that you take and slice one side Whitey so you take a fish and use each side. Slice it to make four pieces but you give the person one side make two pieces drinks I hit a mess. DJ hit a mess. Trying to give you a chance. The food service is pretty long wait.

Yelp
Not really my type of scene. Came here on a random Saturday with a few friends. The crowd was interesting to say the least. However, the food which I didn't know they had was Gooood! I had catfish with Mac and cheese and collard greens. Yum! My friend was made well and the bartenders are pretty good with their service. Would come back just to pick up food and go, hence why I only gave it 3 stars. My friend loves the place though. She goes there almost every single weekend.

Yelp
My buddies and I were at Drink, but wanted a quick snack and we ventured here. We had to get searched to get take out, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. We placed the order and waited by the bar, but the food took quite awhile to come out. My friend got fried chicken, I believe, but it certainly shouldn't have taken 20 minutes or so. One positive was, we could pay for our food directly from the receipt via the QR code. The food was good-- my least favorite item was the yams, but the Mac was good and the mozzarella sticks were great.

Yelp
No complaints, food always HIT!!! Price went up on the food but it's worth it!!! Service was great music was good and people were good. It was crowded so be prepared to wait

Yelp
01.28.24 95 South is a decent local spot. I went on a sunday afternoon and the vibe was chill. The menu was limited to a 'brunch menu' but the selections were appealing. I tried the home fries and bacon which was delicious. I paired a couple of cocktails with my brunch. The red sangria and the mai-tai were pretty good. But if you want an amazing margarita, ask for Leah. The next time I'm in BK, I will definitely stop by.

Yelp
First of all, we are not talking about the NYC Manhattan club scene here . This is a restaurant that turns into a fake lounge after hours. The overweight lover Twins, aka "security" were absolutely unprofessional and not used to having anyone of class visit their establishment. If they did, then they would know how to treat people..as security you need to secure the building and stop trying to date patrons. Don't get jealous because women are having a conversation and not including you. That's disgusting using your authority to get dates. I don't wanna pull a "Me Too" movement, but the security of women, especially single women in New York City. is extremely important and you should take that responsibility seriously. STRONG NO especially if you like to party alone. You'll feel at DRINK LOUNGE two doors down.

Yelp
This place does not respect the partronage they have established. On 7/5/2023 approx 6:10pm I arrived with a party of 10 only to find out that they will be closed until Friday??? Yet the website states they're OPEN....in which they were NOT.... VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! 2ND TIME! REALLY I truly believe that we can have a 2nd WALL STREET but I wouldn't....No BUSINESS SAVVY

Yelp
Undeniably my happy place! Great music, the best crew (Jenn is a gem) and I love Karaoke Thursdays

Yelp
The food here was really good. The drinks were good also. I'm surprise it doesn't have a better review. It could've been bcas I went on a off day when they didn't have an event, when they're not busy. The service was also good.

Yelp
So I went here originally for the music, happy hour specials, and vibes. It turned out it was a whole restaurant lol. I had no idea. Needless to say I had some great food, one of my favorite DJs that I've know forever, BLS's Own DJ Snatch 1 was on the set. This place was a true vibe. Now the crowd is for the 40 and older. It was a Wednesday night, so it's old school classic vibes ALL NIGHT. You will not hear the City Girls or Drake, and I love that. The 2-for-1 happy hour is all top shelf. Baaaaaby what. Now I don't know if there is happy hour everyday. This is my kind of place. Don't get dressed up, it's a neighborhood spot. Trying to find parking, good luck. Take any train to Franklin. My server Gia was amazing. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, the food. O. M. G. It's soul food so you already know there's an expectation . The fried chicken was superb. 15/10. The yams was yamming 10/10. The Mac n cheese was good, but not great. 8/10. My brother had the tilapia, he cleaned his plate so I know it was good . My homegirl had the Buffalo wings. She said they were fried then Buffalo'd she cleaned them wings to the grissel. My cons, the raggedy ass doorman that checking IDs actually looked at my address and said "oh you live down the block from me". First of all, you should be looking at the DOB and if the pictures match. Not if you live near me, creep. And there is NO dessert menu. No peach cobbler, banana pudding, pound cake, nothing. I am going back. Finally a spot that hasn't been gentrified in Crown Heights.

Yelp
After passing by several times and reading reviews, why not? Party of 5, outdoor dining, music, birthday dinner. So what was the outcome? The food was indeed good, but not fantabulous as I expected from the reviews. But the service! The service! There is a whole star attributed to the service! Our waitress was busy, but took care of our table efficiently nonetheless. Due to the pandemic outsoor seating only but the bouncer kept us entertained while doing his job of keeping a particular unwelcomed passer-by from interfering with the patrons. The cocktail drinks were ample, and tasteful. If I am in the neighborhood I am willing to give them another try to wow me on the food.

Yelp
I came here on a Tuesday night aka my day off...and it was for an older crowd, but the drinks and food were good !! Don't have much to say about this place i got there about and hour half before it closed

Barb L.

Yelp
Amazing! The food , service and ambiance made my first visit enjoyable. I would definitely return for a delicious hearty southern meal. The music from the 90s was great to hear but wayyyyyy to loud to have a conversation while eating. I spoke with the DJ who was very kind and lowered the volume a bit. Unfortunately my voice was still hoarse after leaving. Definitely worth a try.

Yelp
UPDATE: The owner was nice enough to write me and he wasn't an azz. the staff situation is getting resolved hopefully and there's a hand sink behind the bar; i apologize for assuming. This place is great and hopefully they last a long time. keep the food and drinks the same please. First and foremost in my John Taffer voice: WHY NOT HIRE EXTRA HANDS IN THE KITCHEN TO HELP BRING FOOD OUT FASTER??!!! WHY NOT HIRE A WAITRESS OR TWO TO RUN FOOD AND DRINKS ON THE FLOOR???!!! WHY NOT HIRE A BARBACK TO HELP THE GIRLS WITH CLEAN GLASSWARE SO THEY CAN FOCUS ON MAKING DRINKS???!!!! Cons: just to get it out of the way; they open @5 i got there around 7ish, the bar was full and some tables taken. i was directed to an owner who told me i had to wait for someone to get up so that i could get a table because, most of them were reserved. This is confusing because, there's no hostess so how does a person reserve a table; using what reservation system? I got a seat @ the bar from a nice gentleman. My first time being there mind u, the bartenders looked @ me like i was a boujee ass white woman from the upper, def. made me feel awkward and out of place (but i can't help my look so sorry Not sorry). If it wasn't for Jennifer i probably wouldn't get a drink and ended up leaving. She was busy as hell being a bartender and a runner for food and drinks( she better be head bartender) But she was nice and knew what she was doing. Kitchen is slow, took almost an hour to get my food but, i imagine there's probably one or two ppl back there. There's only one official runner who brings out the food one by one+ the bartenders who do what they can. I literally watched (maybe) one of the owners i dunno) wash his hands in the same soapy water for the glassware, ewww you just came from outside. The other bartenders need to be more attentive, a guy literally spent 5 min trying to get their attention; they just look past you and go help who they want without saying anything even though you're waving @ them, smh. Pros: The food is good, the drinks are good, (the rum punch is serious) happy hour till 9; a bonus. The DJ was hitting. It's a good space, with ppl who want to drink and have fun, it def. provides that. It's a mix crowd young and more mature. I've never seen females go so hard during happy like i saw last night before, i thought the drinks were watered down but they aren't. Friday is seafood night $30 for a lobster tail, crab cluster, and sides, initially that's what i went for but i changed my mind and got the grilled salmon with mac n cheese and collards. The food and the drinks were going like hotcakes, and that's great! The owners need to put some of that money to use and hire extra staff. All in all my friend liked it, and so do i. I will probably go back just for Jennifer, the food, drinks, and music.

Yelp
At this point I've been here more times than I can count. The food is ALWAYS on point. The only thing is it used to take about 45 minutes for the meals to come, so I'd have to order an appetizer. It seems since covid, the wait time is shorter (about 20 minutes). The drinks are ALWAYS on point and strong. You will not need more than two drinks. Neighborhood gem. Love them.

Yelp
After we got out of Lightscape in the botanical gardens my friends were scanning for food when they found 95 South Soul Food. Instant craving came on and we all headed over. The atmosphere was chill and the music was great, with classic 90's hip hop and r&b. There's a lot of TV's and projectors for the sport-minded and an extensive bar. The food was incredible! I got fried shrimp, mac and cheese, and collard greens and it went so well together. The jerk chicken, fried catfish, and cabbage were also stars! The portion sizes were perfect, not too stuffed and very satisfied. Water was self serve in 2 pitchers with various citrus for flavor, which was super convenient. Our server was very attentive, and the food took a bit but it was well worth it, you can't rush a good meal!

Yelp
I definitely recommend this spot the first time I went on a Friday the food was good and came out in good timing . I had the salmon, Mac&cheese and candied yams . Which are my favorite southern choices and they did not disappoint.. my second visit on a Tuesday was more for drinks and boy did I . I had hot wings and fries and 3 jack and ginger ale and that's all I remembered about that night. Good times .

Yelp
Good soul food and friendly staff. Will definitely return again. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. Yum

Darlene M.

Yelp
I arrived at 95 South with 7 of my co-workers on July 5, 2023, to relax and enjoy some food and drinks and listen to good music. Unfortunately, a young person informed them that the restaurant would be closed until Friday on the website open. He recommended a restaurant called Franklin Park, which I thank him for recommending. I will recommend Franklin Park to anyone who wants outstanding customer service
google avatar

Yajaida M.

Yelp
My sister had a party for her boyfriend here, on a Friday night. DJ -10 stars Food- 7 stars Now back to the review, the " VIP section" is a table by the wall. Like literally on the wall. It was so crowded that we couldn't even dance, no room for anything. You had to waste 20 minutes to go 20 feet to the bar to get anything additional. They even have an outside part for smokers which was packed as well. The waitress were non existent, only time they showed up to the table was to tell us they were looking for a tip n going to clean up. If you want to hang out around young adults then try it but if your not in for the drama then try a lounge that actually feels like a lounge. Oh how could I forget this chick selling hookas was so drunk she actually punched a guy with was standing beside, she got to stay security never escorted her out.

Yelp
Me and my hubby attended 95 south last night. let me start off by saying this place was beyond our expectations. Me and my baby had a blast!!!!!! And do not let me mention the food. My mouth is watering thinking about it. we did an appetizer. The garlic parmesean wings were slamming. for the entree, I did the baby back ribs with mac and cheese and collard greens everything was delicious. The ribs were super tender and flavorful. the mac and cheese was not overly cheesy and the greens looked and tasted like my mommas. My hubby did the ribeye steak with fried shrimp candy yams and the mac and cheese. His food was amazing. I kept digging in his plate . last but not least, shout outs to DJ S1. He did his thang on that turn table, playing all the jams from waaaaay back. The crowd was going nuts. Everyone was having a great time. It was a nice crowd. no one was acting stupid or looking to fight. just there to have fun and enjoy themselves. me and my muffin could not be more please with our experience at 95 south. we will definitely be back and I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
It is a sweet spot with good music and flat screens to watch the news the decor has brick walls and hardwood floors. It is great for parties the baked salmon melts deliciously in your mouth with the cream sauce that goes amazingly well with it....I will say the ribs wasn't fall off the bone so they need to work on that but the bbq sauce was very good, the drinks are fun and the waitress jennifer who is the most helpful girl needs more help and always keeps her cool. This family owned business is great for Brooklyn and is conveniently near the train station....I will come back again

Selena S.

Yelp
The worst bar on Franklin. Literally go to any bar on the street instead and you'll have a great time. Security had to come in and try to get me a drink after 25 minutes of trying to flag the bartender and he also had trouble. The most disgusting margarita I've ever had. Was pointed to the owner on my way out (I didn't even ask for him) and Jaime was such an asshole and is perfectly fine with having a shitty business. Even knew exactly who the poor bartender was and was fine with the terrible service. Reply** his security said "he'll do anything to fix it" the owner below literally just said f*** my calm, constructive feedback because he's fine with all his issues. Also was charging $12 for shitty drinks when they advertised it's an $8 night. You can keep the hand out.

Yelp
I went there with my friend, and my husband joined us soon after. The bartender Jennifer was GREAT!!! I'll go back just for her. I had the Mai Tai, and it was perfect and strong. And, she gives you any left overs in a plastic cup--no wasties. I requested she put on the cookout playlist, and she was more than willing to accommodate. Ain't not like listening to Frankie Beverly and Maze, while enjoying good food, great drinks, and even better company. I also go the salmon and pasta to go. They even gave us extra sauce for the pasta to go. Delicious!!! I'm having my husband go today to pick us up some.

Tracy J.

Yelp
I want to say I always enjoy the food at 95 South. However, this Tuesday my wings were too well done! This is my go to food I was disappointed to say the least. Also, the wait time for the food was way to long.
google avatar

Shanice T.

Yelp
Food here is really good. Only thing was service. It was a bit slow in terms of wait time for meals & handing us utensils from the beginning. I'm not sure if they prioritized takeout orders more. But, it was only two tables. Again, food was regular. Would recommend. But this is my feedback from MY experience. Hoping they can work on that as the city fully opens up 100%

Adriane R.

Yelp
This food tastes like Sunday at my Moma's house!! The catfish is fried to perfection. The macaroni and cheese is sooo good and the candied yams kist round out the meal. Get here early because it's a local spot.

Yelp
This place is a SCAM. They have terrible service and it's been this way for YEARS. They don't care at all about their customers, customer service, and quality assurance at ALL. Driver showed up empty handed and and said someone had taken my food! wtf does that even mean? I got charged for it and waited for over and hour only to answer the door to a clueless, empty handed driver. And then when I called the restaurant to inquire about it someone answered the phone with an extremely loud background and yelled into the phone "text me". I texted complaining about the issue and the only reply I got from the worker was "No" and he ignored all of the texts the sent thereafter asking about my food and what was going on. They literally don't care at all about servicing customers l, only grabbing your money and dismissing you. This is not the first issue I've had dealing with this place and I should've known better than to ever order from here again, but it's been over a year since I'd been there so I thought it would've gotten better by now. Nope not at all. It's still the same dusty crusty place it's always been and money clearly is the only motive to these greedy people . Think twice before ordering from this place.

Yelp
We gave this place a try again and it was pretty much the same experience as a few months ago. We arrived shortly after 10pm, we were asked for ID, searched and patted down at the front door. I don't mind that at all, I prefer the extra precaution but then it also reminds me of the demographic that is potentially inside this joint. Once again no tables available and no space at the bar... of course... What irks me the most is that I very clearly once again saw a bunch of buffoons just taking up table space and not eating nor drinking! Meanwhile, we are once again ready to drop some cash on food and drinks but alas nowhere to sit in this damn place! After 30-45 minutes, we were ultimately able to grab one seat at the bar and 10 minutes later the second seat we needed. A woman who finished her meal was the ONLY one courteous enough to offer her seat while she got up to dance. The rest just sat there milking their 1 watered down drink for hours. Heaven forbid you politely ask to squeeze in the bar just to at least order a drink. The majority will give you eye-rolls and suck their teeth for disturbing their coveted real estate space at the bar! There was only ONE bartender of FOUR that even bothered to take our order after waiting around forever! Thankfully she arrived around the same time we did and took care of us the remainder of the time we were there but if she had not arrived when we did, I wonder if we would have once again had to just about lay ourselves across the bar just to catch one of their attention. She was very pleasant, wish I would have asked her name for proper recognition but the rest were absolutely rude, aloof and inattentive to patrons who clearly had just walked in and were standing around for far too long to order. This place needs better customer service training, seating, more attentive and friendly staff and needs to do a much better job of clearing tables for patrons who actually want to sit, eat and drink instead of allowing others to just to hold up space at the tables when they are not even consuming anything! If you want to STAND all night, grab a decent drink and dance to good music this could work. If you want to actually sit and have dinner you must go very early! At my age, I prefer to spend my money at a place with significantly better customer service. Although the music is great, this place still needs MAJOR improvements!

Yelp
Absolutely incredible BBQ chicken. Everything was fantastic, from service to drinks to food. 10/10 recommend.

Faye M.

Yelp
I came here for a birthday party paid vip price. Tried to communicate with bartender Jenn , that we were ready to order everything. which is a bottle of premium alcohol and chicken wings that comes with that..I was given an attitude for trying to put my order in . We got our premium alcohol, but had to wait 2 hours for the chicken wings that was supposed to come when she put the vip order in. I had to go to the back and figure out, who to order from in order to order more food. The bartender wasn't friendly or approachable and gave me an attitude twice for just trying to communicate our needs of ordering. The music was good and the food was good. Just the service and my experience was Jennifer the bartender.not professional or good customer service for this great establishment.

Yelp
Here's an update to my last review. Below is the unprofessional response that the owner messaged to me and my response. I really felt my review wasn't bad and that I was just being completely honest. I didn't think I would be persobally attacked for it. "You are small percentage who said our food wasn't good sometimes some people just have to say something to feel important but I'm glad the music and drinks was good and to add we have happy hour on most days you probably wasn't aware. I would like to know what you had that wasn't all that" "Reading is fundamental. If u read it carefully I said granted the food WASN'T BAD. Fyi I don't need 2 write a review to feel important, I was just giving my honesty opinion. How professional of you to say that smh. Also, most days means not every day which again is exactly what I said. Please read carefully before attacking ppl."

Yelp
This is reminiscent of old Brooklyn. People my age say this spot is for the old heads but I love it. Come get your wings, some really good food, maybe some hookah. Meet some new friends, listen to classic music, dance the night away and drink a Brooklyn Long Island. Bring cash it's easier. They're not always open but when they are it's popping!

Yelp
No one answers the phone. I don't know if we got the wrong order or what but only one of our meals was correct. We didn't get the sampler, surf n turf, fried shrimp, and jerk chicken that we ordered. Instead we got 2 rib dinners ( we only ordered 1) , salmon, and bbq chicken that none of us ordered. The ribs was NOT a full rack like we ordered. We ordered through Grubhub, waited 2hrs for the food to be done, got the wrong order and the food was disgusting. We ate the meats and salmon and threw away all the sides.

Yelp
NEVER HAD FRIED CHICKEN SO DAMN BURNT IN MY LIFE! NOT ONLY WAS THE BREAST OVERCOOKED, BUT IT HAD A VERY BURNT TASTE TO IT! The max and cheese was ok, definitely had better elsewhere and the greens had too much vinegar! I've ordered from here several times before but tonight was no bueno! I will not spend anymore money in this place! Who would really put a burnt ass piece of chicken on the platter to serve it to a customer???? The food wasn't even hot. They made me leave and return as if it was freshly cooked! No! Smh

Yelp
The bartenders are very fucking nasty and rude they have the most stinkiest attitudes they are so damn rude they have no respect they don't even look appealing I asked for my food multiple times and it came out and she kept it behind the bar for 30 mins and then decided to give it to me it disgusting change your workers

Yelp
I visited this place on Friday, May 3, 2019, with some good friends/co-workers. I absolutely loved the food and of course the company. However, I couldn't give more than three stars, as the wait for the food and drinks was too long, Also, the music was great, but too loud for such a small establishment. I found myself screaming to be heard and could barely hear when I left the place.

Yelp
95 south, so glad it's here up north. Came here cuz another restaurant lost my reservation. They had a groupon deal ($40 for 20). Decided to try it out; not knowing what they served or the ambiance. There was a security guard at the front door. Walked into a large space. Not many tables and a lot of dance floor space. There was a pretty big bar with seats around it. We came for dinner but it seemed like most of the people were there for the drinks and dancing. Can't blame them, the drinks were on point. They had unique names like Peter pan and Brooklyn iced tea which was similar to a long island except they used Hennessey. I saw that and knew I had to try it. Drinks came quick and they were potent and not small; great value. I ordered the southern fried chicken with Mac n cheese and sweet potatoes. It was so delicious!! I cleaned my plate and my wife was even trying to grab a piece of chicken off my plate. Service was pleasant and prompt. It seemed like she was the waitress and the bartender at the same time. She even took care of a few carryout orders in between. The music had us rocking while we ate. They played mostly 90s and 2000s music with a couple of tracks from the 80s and current strayed in between. Turned out to be a real good night. We even left with a little stagger in our step and a craving to come back soon to try other menu items.

Yelp
The service was definitely lack-luster however, I'll give it 4 Stars for the food! It looked pretty bland but, upon tasting it, it was DAMN GOOD! The mac & cheese was seasoned, the catfish I got was well battered, the collard greens, although sweet (I think this is a Northern Soulfood thing), were flavorful! I also like the ambiance. Seems like this turns into a club after around 9pm which was fine by me. Last time I came I got the fried chicken and was very impressed! Next time, I'm getting the Shrimp!

Yelp
Listen, all the reviews about this place are true; the good the bad and the ugly. Hood service (waitress said she was going to knock a rude male patron OUT) , G(h)ood food (Mac n chz and cabbage taste just like my mommas), hood dranks (blue Hawaii was the poppin!) and they are in desperate need of some bus boys and bar maids ( some lady in a denim jacket--Probably somebody's "Aunty Tina" started cleaning tables!) My groupon was well worth it! I'm going back...

Yelp
I was wandering around, and I stopped to peer in the window. A guy walked in past me and said, "C'mon in, it's a friendly place!" How could I turn that down?* So I stopped in for a drink. It was pretty much empty, except for my aforementioned buddy and the bartender. But both of them WERE friendly, the beer was cold, and the bathroom was surprisingly clean. I'm slightly confused by the review that mentions this being an excellent bar in which to be shot. I asked around, and no one wanted to shoot me. Although, to be fair, I only had the one drink. _________ *Probably with a simple, "No thanks." Or by just walking away. I didn't even know that guy.

Yelp
I have one thing to say "you gotta loveyour folks" this place has a lot of potentials but because of management it will never achieve the success that it is due. We arrived and sat ourselves at an empty table before finally I went to the bar and asked the guy that looked like he was in charge "were they open?" he replied "yes" still not getting my point. I then glanced back at the table in which I had been sitting and turned and looked at him again for him to say" oh you want to order? Blank stare:0 The food was Ok and believe me as I am a southern girl and if you are going to make soul food there is one thing that you must get right "MAC AND CHEESE" it was not up to my standards. The service was AWFUL" there was one waitress waiting the entire restaurant area. After waiting what seemed like an hour for our food we had to then chase her down just to pay the check. It was three of us and they kindly included the 15% gratuity to our check. As if to say our service sucks but you still have to tip us anyway. TIp: if you have to try this place for yourself call an hour before and order a carryout once there get food, pay and run out as fast as you can.

Yelp
Zero stars. The Bartender are rude as fuck. We stood at the bar for 10 minutes waving both of them down. They both would always LOOK at us, but continue to take orders from their friends. Absolutely no decorum or tact. It was disgusting actually. Beforehand when asking for a menu, the woman was too busy texting on her on phone. I had to ask 3 times. And then she had to finish her text conversation before handing me the menu. Zero customer service, and I make it a point to always spend my money at black owned establishments. This will be crossed off the list. Rather spend my money where I will be treated with decency.

Yelp
We went to this neighborhood joint yesterday. We were first searched for weapon and they told my nephew since he was under 30, he would have to leave at 11pm. He is 21 and legal. Then we waited 20 minutes for a menu due to the bartender also the waiteress too. The catfish was lackluster and the plates were so small. The music was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think and the music sucked. Nobodybwas dancing so why is the music so loud. I was just so embarrassed that I suggested we go there. . Stay far away.

Yelp
Visited again. Got food to go this time though, had a drink while I waited. Rum Punch was on point!!! Still a fan, going back again. Btw, food that I ordered to go was good stuff. Had the grilled salmon with greens and candy yams, tasted very good!

Yelp
Yo, this is the 2nd damn time I came all the way from Jerzee specifically to chill at this spot and couldn't get in. The reason I returned is because the first time I was here I had a really good time. However, the last 2 x's there was always some BS with the staff at the door. Specifically last wknd, you want to charge me $10 to get in, fine. Can I pay for 3 with my card, NO. You can only use your card at the bar...Really? Ok, no problem. We go around the corner to eat and get cash and return about an hour later and these MFK's want to now charge me $20. GTFOHWTBS!!! It's not like there were new staff at the door, the same chicks that patted me down the first time. I'm bringing peeps from Harlem and Bx to chill, spend money and this is how yall wanna act. Totally disappointed, ya don't have to worry about me comin' back

I broke down and went and had the time of my life, well at least ine of many lol. Met some kool chicks, some bathroom partners lol. Haven't really had the food other than the wings but im gonna try again for Seafood Friday and get the fish.

Yelp
This place needs some structure. I've been there a bunch of times with my older cousins and each time there's so new rule. I feel like security runs this place. Was told I have to pay $10 more to get in because I had on sneakers. We go inside and EVERYONE had on sneakers except for a few woman with heels here and there for a birthday event. DUMBEST SHIT I EVER HEARD. The bartenders are rude and take forever to acknowledge you to order a drink. The drinks are watered down and trash. The hookah, EVEN WORSE. I grew up on Franklin and with all the gentrification going on, legit want to support this establishment but they are consistently getting worse smh If you want some ghetto fun, this hole in the wall is the place to be i guess.
