Asian Supermarket 99 Ranch Market Is Opening First NYC Location | Eater NY

"A California-grown pan-Asian supermarket is opening its first New York City proper location in Flushing at 37-11 Main Street (between 37th and 38th avenues). The market will occupy 22,000 square feet and offer a wide array of pan-Asian foods, snacks, products, produce, meats, seafood, baked goods, condiments, and more. The company was founded in 1984 in Westminster by Roger Chen and has expanded to more than 60 locations nationwide; the three closest stores to New York City are in Jersey City and Hackensack (New Jersey) and Westbury (Long Island), and the company opened a new location in Aliso Viejo, California, in April. The Main Street address most recently housed a location of the national chain Hong Kong Supermarket (which closed in 2024; the Chinatown location remains open) and, before that, Busy Bee Mall. There is no scheduled opening date as of yet, and the initial reporting came from the Real Deal while Eater has reached out for more information." - Nadia Chaudhury

New asian supermarket has opened. Part of a Taiwanese chain from the West Coast. First one in NYC. It’s big, though maybe not as big as some others we already have in Flushing. Similar selection of goods with fresh produce and a meat/fish department. Current sale pricing is really good; non-sale prices seem competitive/comparable to other grocery stores. Selection seems a little less varied in some areas. Some produce looks really good, others not so much. I’m not knowledgeable enough to rate the meat or seafood just by looking at it. It’s where the old Chinese supermarket / Busy Bee mall used to be. Takes up the whole first floor with an entrance on Main Street and another on 37th Ave. The basement’s not yet open, but is going to be a food court—I’m most excited for that! Unfortunately, bad layout and long, confusing lines, but hopefully they’ll figure all that out soon. Glad to have more food options in the neighborhood. Official opening weekend is July 25, when they’ll have a bunch of promotions.

⚠️BEWARE⚠️ New 99 Ranch Market in Flushing selling expired or soon to be expired food. For a new supermarket to have a grand opening on 7/25/25 and I guess a soft opening this week…. Its unacceptable. Yogurt found was expired. Cream cheese expiring in less than 3 months. Meat has off color and deep dried spots meaning they were exposed to air and uncovered for a while.

How come people gave 1 star review to the new business in town just because it's crowded? The crowds just show how excited people are about this new store! It’s normal for things to be a bit busy at the start—let’s give them time to settle in and support this great new addition to the neighborhood. Ps/ I bought some cooked corn there and it's reallyyyy gooood!

The newly opened 99 Ranch Market in Flushing brings a much-needed addition to the neighborhood’s supermarket scene, offering a wide range of Asian groceries and essentials. As with any new store, there are still a few wrinkles to iron out, but overall, it shows great promise. The selection is fairly solid most of the everyday staples you’d expect are well stocked, and there are some unique specialty items that you probably won’t find at other local markets. This makes it a great spot for discovering new products or finding familiar ones from different regions of Asia. Price-wise, it lands somewhere in the middle. It’s not the cheapest in the area, but it’s not overpriced either, fairly competitive and reasonable considering the variety available. Now for the cons: there’s clearly some maintenance still in progress. One noticeable issue is a ceiling leak on one of the floors, which, while concerning, is being managed decently by the staff. Floors are mostly kept dry and safe, and it’s clear that the team is working hard to prevent any accidents. That said, it’s something that should be addressed soon for long-term sustainability and customer confidence. On a brighter note, the customer service is already a strong point. The cashiers are friendly, helpful, and patient, especially refreshing in a high-traffic area like Flushing. All in all, 99 Ranch Market has a strong foundation and great potential. A few fixes here and there, and this could easily become a go-to spot for many locals looking for quality Asian groceries.

Chaos everywhere, you can barely walk. I was expecting more Taiwanese products on the shelves, but they are mostly Chinese products, very disappointing. The food court downstairs is not open yet. Not much expectation there either lol

I’m from the West Coast, and this has always been one of my favorite grocery stores—so I’m really happy to see it open in NJC! They have a great selection of Asian products, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a meat and fish section, just like their West Coast locations. The store is very busy right now, which is exciting but might be a bit hard to manage in the beginning. That’s totally normal for a new opening. The sale prices are great, and the regular prices seem fair and similar to other grocery stores. I’m excited to have my favorite store nearby now, and I believe everything will get better once they settle in. Wishing them lots of success!

The supermarket's products are awesome. Feels like a Chinese costco cause there's so many good products. Prices are decent. The things that need to be improved are as follows: Don't put 3 or 4 cash registers all in one row, create a separate line for each cash register. That will speed up sales. Separately, some cashiers might need training to become more efficient and faster. The other thing i feel this supermarket needs to improve is to make the back door accessible like it was in the old supermarket. It'll make the supermarket easier to access if you can enter from the front and the back.

A clean new place for groceries. Live seafood is great. There’s a big collection of Japanese soda!

Yelp
I'm not sure why people have such low reviews for a Chinese supermarket so I try to keep my expectations in check. Every space in New York City is going to be weird unless it's a standalone building so I'm not really understanding why people are complaining about narrow aisles or weird configurations. I found this supermarket to be clean also well organized, and have items that I can't find in other supermarkets. Their sale prices are very competitive and their produce, including their fruit looks fresh. It's good to have competition in this area as I find a lot of flushing supermarkets Don't always have everything that I need so I need to go to more than one location. This is definitely not going to be your Trader Joe's or even Aldi experience but for a Chinese supermarket - it meets expectations. I don't expect fine customer service - just people who do their jobs.

Yelp
I went during the first week. Located on Main st, about 2 blocks from the station. The food court was NOT open yet but store is narrow, somewhat disorganized for a new store, long cashier lines. No merch / minibags available. Prices seem OK but lots of competition. This would NOT be the first Asian supermarket I visit in Flushing given the unpleasant shopping experience. Plenty of security to stop shoplifting.

Yelp
Big grand opening at Flushing. The store is big. The prices are average. Some of Manager specials prices were high. A lot of the store employees were unsure of what to do. Some stood around doing nothing. No one took the carts away from check out. Raw meat sitting on top of basket. Shelves were empty. I understand it was a big grand opening but I went back on Monday and store employees looked unenthusiastic and shelves were still empty. I will give this store another chance but they have heavy competition. The food court is still in construction phase.

Yelp
The food selection was fine. The aisles were extremely cramped and the downstairs food court isn't open yet. There were some good grand opening deals. But it as so crowded even at 6:30 pm that it was hard to maneuver around the store. The baskets with wheels are terrible and they drift everywhere. So it was very easy to run somebody over with your basket on wheels.

Yelp
99 Ranch Market is just your typical Asian Market in Flushing and there are alot to choose from. Employees at the time I went were friendly and helpful. Store is clean and the clerks were stocking the shelves.

Yelp
If I can give it zero stars, I would! Place is pure chaos and even their own damn employees don't know how to say "excuse me." I can't tell you how many time they rammed their trollies or pushed themselves into me to get past. USE YOUR WORDS! RUDE ASS PEOPLE! Plus, 1/3 of their items don't ring up correctly so check your receipts! You then need to stand on the customer service line to get it corrected. With all the Chinese grocery store options in the area, go elsewhere!

Yelp
I ventured into 99 Ranch Market with the same hopeful optimism one reserves for a long-lost recipe rediscovered. What I found instead was a culinary crime scene. The produce section looked like it had survived a mild earthquake -- bok choy strewn like fallen soldiers, mangos with the texture of regret. I sought out the seafood, only to be met with the unmistakable aroma of existential dread. The live tanks were less 'fresh catch' and more 'dystopian aquarium.' And don't get me started on the aisles -- a labyrinth of expired sauces and unrecognizable snacks designed, perhaps, to test one's will to live. I left with a single instant ramen and a broken spirit. Two stars -- one for irony, one because I can't give zero.
