So, I strolled into 99 Rogers with high hopes. A few people recommended this bar to me. I'm staying in Crown Height and eagerly took a walk over on an early Saturday evening for a cocktail.
I walked in and most places accept a picture of your ID and vaccination card. Not this place. The bartender asked to see my physical ID as well. Well... I have nothing to hide, so I presented it to him. He didn't say, anything, so I asked, "do I sit anywhere?" He said, "Yes. "
I took a seat at the far end of the bar. There was a couple to my left and a lady to my right, studying. The customers to my left and right had drinks and food, so they appeared good. After 8 or so minutes, I get the bartenders attention and request a slightly dirty Tito's martini, please. He brings my requested drink, and ask, "Would I like to open a tab? I ask, "Do you need a credit card? " He says, "Yes! " I hand him a credit card. Weird. I've been to many bars and restaurants in New York and have never been asked to give a credit card at 4:30pm. I think there were 6 ppl at the bar and 4 ppl people in the restaurant total. But whatever... I'm here for a drink. I hand over my credit card. Which he keeps. I mean are we in the 90's?
After 10 minutes, the lady to my right, ask for her bill. The bartender brings over the C/C machine and she removes her credit card from her purse and inserts her card. Oh... ok, obviously not everyone needs a credit card on file. Ok... look I'm new to the joint. Don't judge, I tell myself. Needless to say, I guess the bartender could see right thru my high-class Target flur Coat! Which I love!
10 minutes later, The couple on my left ask for their check. They also get to hand their credit card to the bartender after he presents the check.
At this point I'm drinking my martini very suspiciously! WTF!
Apparently... i was the only one that had to actually hand over a credit card at 4:30 pm on a random Saturday. Not sure if this is normal. But it's not normal for Crown Heights or New York. It's weird and I didn't appreciate the experience.
I guess Justin at 99 Roger's is selective about his customer service policy. I truly hate poor customer service that stems from being selective.
I finally ask for the bill, after one martini and 1 glass of red wine. Justin the bartender takes it upon himself to swipe my credit card that he has in his possession since asking for it shortly after he delivered my martini. He never thought to ask, if I wanted to use the card that he was holding hostage. I was planning to pay cash, but since that option was taken away from me. Yeah, use my card!
Well... No Thank you Justin for a very shitty experience! I can't believe you actually said, that you aren't feeling well, that's why I gave shitty service after I complained to you. I do hope you're feeling better, but you're selective approach is sketchy AF!
I won't be back! Terrible!!
I gave 2 star, because the other bartender did check on me and served my glass of wine. Thanks!
