Okay so this place. It’s actually inside of a liquor store which I had no idea I’m driving up and down the street looking for the place I had to look at the address and realize it doesn’t have its own building it’s in a liquor store But there was plenty of parking it’s not a sit down restaurant they have maybe 4 seats to wait for ur food but for the most part I ordered oxtails macaroni and cheese greens and yams the macaroni was very unseasoned. I don’t like it and neither did my 7 year old and he likes macaroni and cheese that’s his favorite the oxtails were good they were like a 7 out of the macaroni was a 2 out of 10 the yams were good I’ll give it a 8 the greens were like a 4and a half outta 10 my son ordered fried catfish and 2 sides of macaroni we threw the macaroni out but the cat fish was good the customer service was top tier and the wait time was about 15 minutes

Google
Their food is delicious. I’m from GA and don’t really like anyone else’s soul food in LA but theirs. I gotta have a soul roll at least once a week.

I have tried every item! The food is southern style tasting. Food that’s fills the soul and with great seasoning and love. The staff and service is exceptional.

Google
So I was looking for a good southern soul food restaurant to take my aunt to. I read the reviews about this place, so we decided to drive down from the valley. The place is inside of the market, by the way. Antoine assisted us, and my aunt tried the oxtail with mac cheese and yams, while I had their Cajun salmon with mac and cheese, yams, and greens. Let me tell you, this food was worth the drive!! Oxtail meat pulled away from the bone easily, and it was tasty and not dry. The mac and cheese was cheesy; the way I liked it. Greens were also amazing. And let's talk another salmon, it made my mouth water. It wasn't dry and had the right amount of spices. And let's not forget Antoine, he was amazing!! Great customer skills, and he was kind😁😁 This is a family owned business, and I like to support the little guys as much as I support the big ones. So take a drive to this place and by the way, you'll have to take it to go or have it delivered. Sorry, the food was so good, I forgot to take pics 😉😉

A DIAMOND in the rough. If you have a chance to stop and grab a plate. THE TEAM is hardworking friendly and fast. The Chicken is delicious and the Fish stupendous.

Google
Small gem I found that will forever have me in a chokehold. The salmon is very juicy and full of flavor, the Mac n cheese, (taste as as if someone who made it is from the south). Great customer service, great food, and GREAT prices. 🤞🏼 thank you🤞🏼

Google
Well, I must truly say I was worried due to the fact that this little family Eatery was inside a liquor store, but let me tell you I was Fooled . I enjoyed everything about this place. The staff is friendly superb customer service, and those soul rolls. went in my soul and had me drunk off some good eating., and I think the soul rolls are a very good idea, I myself when I make Soul Food for myself and my family after everyone eats I make soul food burritos. so I want to say thank you. My sister recommend Your established to me and she bragged on your soul rolls and so I came in and I bought five and also a red snapper meal for my cousin and she truly enjoyed it and I will be returning back. The next time I visit, I will make sure I ask for my soul rolls to be put in a more stable container . I will most definitely spread the word about your establishment.

Yelp
Let me start off saying that the customer service was a 10/10! Very sweet well spoken workers. Wait for the food was reasonable and definitely worth it (15-20min). I got an oxtail dinner with mac, cabbage, and a bed of mash for the oxtails. Bombbbb! Oxtails were falling off the bone, cabbage was very flavorful well seasoned, and the macaroni was good. I did also order a side of red beans & rice and it was BOMB some of the best I've had! Cornbread muffins were also sooo good, not too sweet either, not dry and probably some of the best cornbread I've had in LA!

Yelp
they food is fire and the koolaid is fire and the customer service is tea , the Mac is so good and everything is so fire everything abt this place is good!!

Yelp
Food was all honestly delicious however the collards could have been cooked a little longer in my opinion. The staff was all wonderful and they even let us use a small table to eat on. Catfish was BOMB Mac and cheese BOMB Banana pudding was BOMB
google avatar

Yelp
This food is BOMB! I had the turkey chops and they were absolutely amazing! Perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. The string beans were delicious and cooked just right, and the yams? Let me tell you--the yams are bomb! Everything I had this time was phenomenal. This spot never misses, and I can't wait to try the oxtails and baked chicken next. I'll definitely be back and will keep y'all posted. If you're looking for real, flavorful Southern food that tastes like it came from your favorite auntie's kitchen--run, don't walk!

Yelp
You know this place is good when our party of 30 people all complimented the food and asked where we got it. I did a TON of research to find the perfect Southern/Creole restaurant to cater for our New Orleans themed Super Bowl party. From the online menu to the ordering process and day of delivery, Jakiya was very accommodating and made sure we got our food delivered on time. Some of our favorite dishes were the seafood pasta (crab legs - hello!), collard greens, gravy, and banana pudding, but the jambalaya, smothered chicken, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and beef sausage were all so flavorful too. I am so glad I found this restaurant and look forward to dining there soon. Plus, I love supporting local, small businesses!

Yelp
Everything is great haven't had a bad thing yet .... Come down here and get something try the soul rolls

Yelp
Yes it's inside a grocery store, but they have a designated spot and seating while you wait for your order. The service is great the young man is professional pleasant and passionate. The oxtails were cooked perfectly season tender and they gravy incorporates the pan droppings from the meat and not just mixed flour gravy. Now to be honest. I didn't eat or take the pictures of my meal when I got it but hours later that's why the smothered chicken doesn't look smothered the gravy soaked in. Yes the chicken has flavor the gravy was good. The banana pudding had no slices of banana but the pudding itself was banana flavored. Yes not a banana fan I do like it just push the sliced banana on the side so I can just eat the pudding and waffles. I don't like when the pudding is flavored anything but vanilla but since there's no real banana in their pudding I guess that's why. But I'm not going to lie I did eat more than one bit. If German chocolate cake is your thing you'd like this but I feel like I'm a fake Caribbean cause I don't like banana or coconut on cake lol. Still loved this place them oxtails

Yelp
FIIIIIRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE WOOOOOWWW. I came all the way from Huntington Beach to try their food and it was worth every minute of traffic. Fantastic, staff was cool, and they put a piece of love in everything.

Tesha W.

Yelp
Was served Mac and Cheese I watched her make after 5 mins in the oven was uncooked...waited over hour for order...was told she didn't put my turkey chops in the fryer because she didn't have the right seasoning...where there is a entire isle with seasonings in the store. Got home and cooked my Mac and Cheese. Chops only tasted of thyme...no salt...pepper nothing...I drove from Pico/Fairfax area...2 hours for horrible service and food...nice concept was hopeful...needs mature adults to run for customer service and quality assurance. I watched a few people leave didn't have menu items...I feel they were overwhelmed...but don't sale uncooked or undercooked food...I had to ask to make sure my meat was cooked as she and the cashier kept looking at my chops as if they didn't know if they were done...who hired them...

Yelp
Yum! I ordered the fried chicken breast and wing and it was juicy and flavorful made to order the collard greens were well seasoned the best I ever had, wow the spicy cabbage! Incredible the cornbread was freshly made nice and warm. The homemade German chocolate cake was so fresh that it was warm. The two lovely ladies very so sweet and warm they made me feel like family. You can taste the love in their food amazing! I will be going there again.

Yelp
I would not recommend this place. Customer service is NOT GOOD. They got my order wrong and told me going forward they will not make any changes. No PROBLEM. I WILL NOT PATRONIZE!!!

Yelp
I tried A Family Affair after friends/family tried it and loved it. I ordered from DoorDash and picked it up. I was surprised when entering to see the interior housed a butcher shop, grocery area, liquor store and restaurant in one. There were a lot of local residents stopping in for lunch; definitely a popular spot. I ordered the catfish dinner with greens and Mac/cheese. The food was a bit salty but was seasoned so well. I typically prefer to make soul food at home but this is a decent spot for LA.

Donna D.

Yelp
ABSOLULTE FABULOUS FOOD!!! Purchased the Groupon. $36.00 for $75.00 dollars worth of food. What an amazing deal! Here are the goodies we got: Fried Chicken with cabbage and macaroni and cheese...YUM! Smothered turkey chops with cabbage and macaroni and cheese...YUM! Veggie plate with cabbage and macaroni and cheese...YUM! Soul Rolls (these are amazing!). But wait, there's more! We also ordered a slice of their German Chocolate Cake - OMG! One of the BEST pieces of cake...EVER!!! The service was outstanding - courteous and professional. Do yourself a favor - purchase the Groupon and head down to A Family Affair. If they're interested, my husband and I will be their spokespeople! Wishing A Family Affair success now and always! WE WILL BE BACK!

Yelp
On the day my daughter and I came we ordered different types of fish , I ordered catfish and I didn't receive catfish , my daughter ordered red snapper and she received something else as well . The food was way too salty that day besides the mixed up order . The greens were not enjoyable too much salt , please taste your food before serving to know if it's too salty , I will eventually give them another try ! The ambiance of the store was warm and friendly as well as the staff .

Yelp
Great food in the neighborhood what I like about it is it's a family affair. The name is outstanding in the younger generation belong there. Keep up the good work.

Josh A.

Yelp
Delicious food, nice staff, convenientlyrics located inside the market. I like the lamb chops the best so far, going to try the baked chicken next.

Yelp
I had a HORRIBLE experience at this place Friday, May 16th. I heard about them on Instagram and how great their food was, especially their soul food egg rolls. I was on my way to visit with family and thought it would be nice to bring food, so we can nibble and chat. Prior to going, I look on "A Family Affair Southern Cuisine" website and I noticed they offered May 16th Specials. The website listed Red Snapper & Fries or Catfish and Fries for $9.99. I thought, wow, great deal. I also looked at the regular menu and saw soul food egg rolls, one for $6 or two for $10. When I arrived and placed my order the meals were rung up at $11.43 each and the egg rolls were rung up at $7.24 and the second egg roll was $7.16. I asked the cashier about the specials and prices I saw listed online at $9.99 and $10 for two egg rolls and out of nowhere another young woman appeared from behind the wall and began speaking to me saying other customers who shop for groceries know and understand cost increases and inflation and the prices on their website are not current, but their other customers understand and don't have an issue with paying the difference in cost. I was very polite, I did not raise my voice, I simply stated to her, that her website listed one price and I was rung up at a very different price and her website was a direct representation of her establishment. She told me she does not have the ability to update her social media pages with current pricing as quickly as her in store price list, so that is why the pricing is different. Again, I pointed out she should have better access or control over what is listed on her website as it directly reflects her. She got an attitude and stated "I just approved your refund." I expressed to her that I did not require a refund and she could keep the difference in cost. Her actions demonstrated the blame was on me and implied that I do not understand the costs we are ALL paying for food and inflation and I'm the problem and do not have the right to question their pricing. I have EVERY right to question pricing if I saw "MAY 16TH SPECIALS" on their website. It did not read "Friday Specials", it read "MAY 16th SPECIALS". Don't advertise something on YOUR WEBSITE with a specific date associated with it, that you are unable to honor. That's HER FAULT, not mine. Insulting me and implying I don't understand costs, tariffs, and inflation is very disrespectful, as I have a family that I feed everyday. I am also a FF&E Senior Project Manager for a very large purchasing firm and my job and job security is DIRECTLY impacted by the Chinese Tariffs, in particular. I read about Tariffs daily, as there are current tariffs on metal beams required for structural support, lumber required for building hotels, and FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) required for furnishing hotels. I know ALL about tariffs, inflation, etc. I'm a pro on it, actually! To add insult to injury, I later learned the young man working behind the counter felt the need to apologize to the customer who ordered behind me, and told her "I'm sorry about that customer before you, some customers feel entitled". That conversation happened AFTER I left the restaurant and what he did not know is that the woman he apologized to about my "so called" entitled behavior was the neighbor to my family member I was visiting with. How rude of him! I was not disrespectful, I did not raise my voice, nor did I exude a sense of entitlement. I simply asked why the difference in cost between what was on their website and what I paid and I had EVERY RIGHT to question that. When I received my order, I noticed they included a $2 refund in a plastic bag and placed it in my "To Go" bag, but to be honest, that was not the correct refund amount. The correct refund amount would have been more like $3.00, if we were addressing the fish special only (not the soul food egg roll). Either way, I went there with a SINCERE intention to support a local Black Business. I 100% regret spending my hard earned $44.90 + $3.00 tip I left in their tip jar at this establishment, especially since I am an amazing cook myself who can also throw down on soul food. I am disappointed in the undeserved treatment I received, as my intentions were to sincerely support a local black establishment who I was told offered good, quality food. I am very insulted by the young man who felt the need to apologize for my behavior when I was nothing but polite.

Angie S.

Yelp
I recently placed an order with your business, but I was charged $24.86 for an item that was out of stock. Instead of notifying me, you substituted the item without my consent. After waiting an hour for a response, I discovered this issue. I contacted your business to request a refund, but I have not received my money back, and my call was disconnected when I followed up. It has now been three days with no resolution. I am requesting an immediate refund of $24.86 to the original payment method. If I do not receive a response within 48 hours, I will have no choice but to dispute the charge with my bank and report this issue to consumer protection agencies. Please confirm when the refund has been processed. I expect prompt action to resolve this matter.

Yelp
Oh man this is a rough rating. We really, really wanted to like this place-- the seasonings in principle are all great, garlic mashed potatoes, deep fried and breaded turkey, ox tails... ... but just about everything we had on the menu was too salty. Not sure if it was just an off day or something else? But we had leftovers and even the next day, when eaten more carefully with the rice and beans, things were still too salty. That said everyone really seems to love this place, inside a grocery store with high ceilings and ample parking means tons of appropriate character as well... but this visit did not do it for us.

Jade M.

Yelp
I came to try the soul roll and they are delicious! A reasonable sized egg roll filled with sweet yams, creamy mac and cheese, and tender red beans, collard greens, and turkey neck costs $7. It comes with a side of yam dipping sauce, but because of how sweet the yams were the sauce wasn't needed, although it was tasty with it! I loved how the filling was arranged because you can choose between savory or sweet with a bite on either side. Fresh and hot, I waited 30 mins for it to cool down and it was still steaming. The female cashier was kind with great customer service to match her team as my food was ready within 10mins. I also got their banana pudding and it was so good! It was thick with a perfect cookie to pudding ratio and actually tasted like banana. Great place!

Ruben B.

Yelp
The food is really good they have great customer service there always really nice and they prep the food in a reasonable timing

Yelp
So first I have to say be very careful when driving here because we missed this place 3 times. Fun fact: it is located in the back of an interesting market that has so many cool things (while waiting for our food we took a little tour and we will definitely come back). Though the actual restaurant is more like a To-go area for hot deli, staff was very friendly and answered all my questions while taking my order. They have a large menu and we couldn't decide so we ordered a bit of everything. For the most part, the food was solid but the clear star of the show were the crab claws. They were super tasty and seasoned really well in some butter sauce with herbs and Cajun seasoning. Me and my family enjoyed the fried okra as well (I typically hate okra but this was great). I really enjoyed the red beans and rice also. However, I would steer clear of the macaroni and cheese as it was a bit mushy and compared to the other food bland. My stepfather who is a huge chicken person loved the bake chicken due to the nice marinade. The mash potatoes were not good though as they tasted like they came out of a box. However, the gravy was something special and it went really well with the smothered chicken. Overall, I would definitely come back but mainly for the crab claws.
google avatar

Mai R.

Yelp
Food was delicious. I'll be back. The only reason I knocked off a star is because I ordered salmon online and when my hubby got there they were out and she substituted snapper. That was fine but the snapper dinner cost less than the salmon and there was no refund of the difference or offer for a drink or something. However the food was great and I will buy again. Hadn't been in the Buddha Market in years so I was hesitant to order but the hubby said it looked clean so I'm good.
google avatar

Aidan N.

Yelp
Checking back! Best fried catfish I ever had! & the Mac n cheese was top shelf & top chef.

Sandra C.

Yelp
Customer service excellent Food service excellent Dessert excellent. Soul Roll is what brought me here. Oxtails brought me back the next day
google avatar

Chloe L.

Yelp
Oh my god, I can talk about this soul food spot ALL DAY. Let me be ambassador or something lol. I LOVEEEE A Family Affair's Soul food, and I even think it's better than Dulan's (no hate to Dulan lol). I used to go to their older location on Manchester but sadly that location is gone :(...... HELLO TO THE NEW LOCATION ON SLAUSON THOUGH. I recently went to their newer location for the first time and I was not disappointed! It's inside the liquor store which may seem like a con but honestly, they made a little area for themselves & their customers which I can appreciate! Upon my arrival, I gave her the name for my order and she fixed my plate real quick for me. The woman there are always so friendly and chatty too! I love it and I love this restaurant! Thank you for the delicious food

Pam T.

Yelp
Good food and great service. Good peppery mac n cheese and some buttery cake 10/10. I only got to try their mac & cheese, but if they're mac & cheese taste like this I know the rest gotta be good.
google avatar

Janeya G.

Yelp
Always love the catfish. The red beans and rice added a new flavor profile. Very good!
google avatar

Tesha C.

Yelp
The food is absolutely delicious! The soul rolls hit the right spot every time... ohhhh the turkey chops are so flavorful!! The portions are fair and the service is great. They stay busy, but they also stay engaged with the customers. Great food... great service... Our new favorite spot!

Dechele B.

Yelp
Absolutely, I recommend this restaurant. My picture won't do it justice cause I had already eaten half of my food. Everything is good and enough for me to have leftovers. The customer service is friendly and I appreciate that it is a Black owned business ran by young women.
google avatar

Rika9214 ..

Yelp
I ordered off of DoorDash and when I tell you this food was fire I mean fire I ordered the catfish Mac and cheese and yams and everything was delicious even the corn bread had me dancing with every bite. Everybody hype up Dulans but they don't have nothing on a family affair southern cuisine you hear me. Now gone ahead and get you some
google avatar

Keenan D.

Yelp
Awesome plate! I had the salmon, okra and candied yams. Gem in South Central in the back of an unsuspecting liquor store
google avatar

Aneisha H.

Yelp
Ordered takeout for the 3 piece fried chicken as well se the fried catfish plate and had green beans, spicy cabbage, yams and black eyed peas with cornbread for sides The sides were so good and the main dishes were good but missing a little something that could've indeed took them next level. I would definitely order the catfish plate again but would pass on the chicken based on my friend's perspective in view because I don't eat chicken The delivery service was right on time and pretty fast considering I ordered on a holiday I'll definitely share pics my next order of the catfish plate and not sure about the ambiance, parking or vibe of the spot since this was takeout but we shall see if I ever visit in person because I would take family that visit me to this spot
google avatar

Dawn A.

Yelp
If actually give 3.5 stars if I could. We orders 5 different entrees. Highlights: Cajun salmon was a favorite for sure. Liked by all . Pork chops were very dry and salty. Friend chicken was very average. Disappointed in the catfish. It was definitely fresh but had no flavor and the portions were embarrassing. It was literally like two little chicken fingers for $20. Side favs were cornbread and green beans. Yams were perfect. Greens and beans/rice were decent. Mac and cheese was a disappointment. Very greasy, so prob using bagged shredded cheese. Overall it was ok. Might try it again when craving soul food. It's was just at a ghost kitchen kind of pick up do no feedback on service or ambiance. Carry out only here

Patrick P.

Yelp
I rarely ever write reviews, but I felt morally obligated to sing the praises of this place. As someone whose entire family is from rural Alabama I know Soul Food in and out and this is the best Soul Food I've had in my decade here in Los Angeles bar none. The catfish is the best I've had out here and the sides of Mac and cheese, greens, cornbread, and yams were phenomenal. Seasoned just the way I like it. I was this impressed with food I got from Uber Eats so excited to come back and get it fresh.
google avatar

Chi I.

Yelp
Pros: The lamb chops and the sides were good, as were the Cajun claws and the banana pudding. The cornbread was also pleasing. Cons: I realize the oxtail fries look messy, but that's the condition in which they were delivered. They were a bit overwhelming for me--not terrible, but I didn't find them particularly enjoyable, so I wouldn't order them again. Overall, I paid $97, largely due to the multitude of fees Uber Eats charges. I would definitely order again, but perhaps I'll visit in person next time to try different items and avoid those high fees.
google avatar

Cameron D.

Yelp
Best soul food in all of LA! And it's not close! Tried almost everything on the menu so far and everything has been fantastic! Eating the food from here feels like a hug on a hard day, you gotta try it!!
google avatar

Devin H.

Yelp
Came here for lunch today and it was amazing! I got the baked chicken with potatoes and mac and cheese, reminded me of being back in the south again. I would recommend getting that! Ill be back for sure :)

Jess L.

Yelp
I ordered the beef links with sides of collard greens and Mac n cheese-- surprised to say the collard greens were probably the best I've had!
google avatar

Maia J.

Yelp
This is an old review I went to the old location in Inglewood before the fire I had a bad experience. I ordered online for pick up 20 minutes before I arrived cause I had to go to work later on. When I got there I told them I placed an online order and they kept telling me they needed to fry a new batch of chicken and I would be getting my order soon. 40 minutes later I still had no food and I had to keep asking. People who were ordering in store were getting their food before me and I ordered it 20 minutes before I even pulled up there. I ended up just asking them to cancel my order cause I had to go to work. I had to dispute the order online for my money back. They said it was cause they thought I was a DoorDash driver ?? I was in my head like smh damn I shoulda just gone to dulans. I really wanted to try this spot too. I'm trying to go soon to the new location and try it out I hope I'll have a better experience and get to try the food. I will update review.
google avatar

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Everything here is good, everything we've tried! The chicken, catfish, snapper, the yams, the greens, the red beans and rice, the Mac, the fries, the cornbread! Everything is good well seasoned and just good quality. Our favorite soul food spot in LA ! Additionally the customer service is great !
google avatar

Audrey B.

Yelp
I know A Family Affair hate to see me coming! Cause I definitely order from here at least once a week! The place is located inside of the Buddha Market, I had an issue locating it when I first went. There is no seating area but I'll tell ya.. Best catfish in LA hands down. The employees are so nice and my food is always hot even when I order ahead. I usually get the catfish dinner with collard greens and Mac and cheese. The collard greens are amazing. The Mac is great as well but not traditionally baked. Definitely expect me back soon.

RaShonda C.

Yelp
Friendly faces and service. Ordered the Cajun crab claws the flavors was amazing But the potion was very small 8 claws ‍ Also had the Mac and cheeses delicious , I will go back again just won't be getting the crab claws welcome to the community

Jaenae H.

Yelp
I really was ready to leave 5 stars. I am not from the area and live 7 hours away. I drove to the address that is listed only to find out that there was no restaurant. Tried to call the number listed and there was no answer . Very upsetting as where I live there isn't good soul food. I was sold just on the reviews and sadly will be going home without it

Yelp
Food was pretty alright but the costumer service was terrible, I placed an order on uber eats at 5:30 pm it said my food was done at 6:02 pm so I get up there they tell me they been calling myphone because they didn't have any oxtails ready at the moment but I called them a million times before and after I placed my order because I figure they were going to tell me something like but long story short I get my food and the oxtails were just all fat this place is not worth it at all and they need to clean they kitchen I swear it's grease everywhere!!!

Yelp
They said the food would be ready in 20 we ended up waiting an hour an 20 . Greens have no flavor, cabbage has no flavor, oxtails over cooked, turkey chops super dry over cooked, Mac and cheese tasted like grocery store Mac n cheese that's been out all day . I could keep going ... the red beans and rice were pretty good and the lamb chops .

Yelp
I've had Jakiya cater two of my birthdays, and the food has been excellent! The food arrives hot, on time, and all of the guests leave full and satisfied! I especially love the smothered chicken. She has delivered on each occasion, going far out of their way, which is especially helpful... even a on Sunday!

Yelp
Salmon is really good. Plus tried the lamb chop excellent. Prices is reasonable and worth every penny.

Yelp
I attended a repast service recently with sides catered by A Family Affair. Every item served was exquisitely prepared and the 'green beans' were simple amazing. With nearly 200 people in attendance, the conversation around the room was "Did you taste the green beans? They are the best I've ever had". Thank you Family Affair for your great food.
