This is a take out spot inside a bodega/mini mart, so you can stock up on supplies and grab hot food! I even got plantain strips!! I had the oxtail with rice, cabbage and sweet potatoes/candied yams! It was amazing!!!! The meat fell off the bone! I got 3 large pieces of oxtail. The portions are large, well worth the price! I don't like cornbread, but I loved their fresh baked cornbread muffin, so crumbly!! My friend had catfish and she loved it with collard greens and the yams! Service was great, the team there was friendly, as we're the other customers! I live in Ventura but the next time I'm in that part of LA, I'll definitely go get a plate!! 10/10

Large portions, delicious food. One plate is enough to share! Cornbread was just okay. I prefer buttermilk. Blueberry punch hits the spot. Turkey chops are the winners! This spot is better than Dulan's. Parking is cramped but don't let that deter you. There can be a wait as everything is freshly prepared. Greens ate! Green beans ate! Cabbage ate! Mac n cheese ate! It is dense and heavy! Very filling. My new go to Soulfood place.

Young lady recommended my meal due to them not having any more ox tails. Let me tell you! Them Turkey chops fried or smothered (she gave me sample of fried turkey chops) was the best thing I had in a very long time and I have to say I love me some turkey chop! Thank you for the recommendation 💚

Okay so this place. It’s actually inside of a liquor store which I had no idea I’m driving up and down the street looking for the place I had to look at the address and realize it doesn’t have its own building it’s in a liquor store But there was plenty of parking it’s not a sit down restaurant they have maybe 4 seats to wait for ur food but for the most part I ordered oxtails macaroni and cheese greens and yams the macaroni was very unseasoned. I don’t like it and neither did my 7 year old and he likes macaroni and cheese that’s his favorite the oxtails were good they were like a 7 out of the macaroni was a 2 out of 10 the yams were good I’ll give it a 8 the greens were like a 4and a half outta 10 my son ordered fried catfish and 2 sides of macaroni we threw the macaroni out but the cat fish was good the customer service was top tier and the wait time was about 15 minutes

Mannnnnnn, listen. I have been in LA for 4 years now. I’m originally from South Carolina. I have not found a place close to food I found at home until today. There will be a wait, but real food takes time and love. If you want it fast, they have a way to order online so when you get here it’s either ready or close. The catfish I had was crispy on the outside with a soft center. The yams took me back south. The okra was fresh, not the frozen pre dipped crap. Fries were excellently made and crispy. They don’t put the fries in a box so they don’t get soggy. And at the end I saved the cornbread for last. As soon as I opened the foil and saw a little melted butter, I knew I found my place. If you want to have good southern food and don’t want to spend thousands on a plane ticket, hotels, and Ubers to eat in the south, just come here. Get the green kool aid too. I will be back, a lot.

I have tried this location a few times and keep arriving at the same conclusion, it's not for me. I truly get and support small, black business. I only come here for one thing, the soul rolls. My palate is a bit more discriminating to be able to enjoy the other menu items independently. I'm not saying they're bad, just not for me. The rolls however provide a nice change of pace in the culinary paradigm. My contention is when as a patron I'm told what I "can't do". The rolls are a coveted item and slated to be one of the restaurants claims to fame. On a previous visit I came to order a dozen and was told that needs to be done in advance. I was told 6 was the max for a walk in order. I understand that. They are hand made. Today I walked in and ordered 4. I was told they couldn't make that many. The most I could get was 2. Well ma'am, there are 3 of us standing here. She walks away and returns and agrees to the 3. Cool! Thanks! The guest behind me orders what, a soul roll with no discussion. 🤔 As the business proprietor, they absolutely reserve the right to manage the establishment as they see fit. No qualms there. Post your limits however. Max 3 soul rolls per visit...or whatever. I don't like the rules changing sporadically. If I'm told they can only do 2 with a stretch to 3 and you follow with an order behind me, I feel that lacks integrity. My intended order was stated immediately with the desire to support the business. The business acumen is what the distraction is for me. Again, I only come for one item. Will I return, remains to be seen.

Great service and great food! No complains, but I do have a one or two suggestions. I would’ve liked to have my salmon a little bit more well done. Also, maybe some cream cheese on the mashed potatoes. Other than that the flavors were great and everything tasted fresh. Didn’t feel heavy afterwards. The cornbread with honey on top is definitely top tier! The price for the food matches the quality and amount of food you get.

The food and service was great. Turkey chop dinner with Mac/cheese and greens. $18.99 plus tax Blackened salmon with Mac/cheese and greens.$18.99 plus tax Gumbo$25 EVERYTHING was seasoned to perfection. The turkey and salmon was tender and moist. Cornbread was delicious. The staff was friendly and personable. Overall I would recommend and will be visiting again.

This southern food Cafe shares space with the long standing Buddha Market on Slauson. I decided to take a gander and give them a try and I would not let the cramped parking deter me. I ordered the turkey chops over garlic mashed potatoes, greens with cabbage and Mac and cheese. I also ordered the catfish, Soul Roll and, Blueberry punch. Everything was delicious. My plates were packed and I wasnt able to finish even half of my food. Turkey chops are tender and remarkably prepared. I had zero problems cutting off pieces with the provided plastic utensils. Garlic mashed potatoes are amazing. Mac and cheese is divine. Greens with cabbage are tantalizing. My taste buds were rewarded with every mouthful. Soul Roll is on the sweet side. I was too full and could only take a small bite. I ended up giving most of it to my daughter. She enjoyed it thoroughly. Blueberry punch is refreshing. I wasn't able to try everything as I got full very quickly but I have left overs for tomorrow and possibly the next day. Buddha Market is just as proficient with delicious treats, sweets, ethnic seasonings and a fresh meat butcher shop with lovely prices. I will return.

Delicious Soul Food is served here. My childhood memories were unlocked as if I were in my Mom's kitchen. Located inside of Buddha Market, set up for takeout, seating is limited but one of the servers went above and beyond to make sure me & my sister were could eat there. He set up a table so that we could dine there. I tried the Red Snapper, Green beans and Yams. they were delicious. I can't forget the Koolaid. It was very good balance of strawberry, kiwi and lemonade. The staff members are friendly and pleasant. I had a a comfortable dining experience here.

Listen... I cook, and I know good food when I taste it. This right here? This is the real deal. I can't even gatekeep because everybody needs to know about A Family Affair Southern Cuisine. Everything is seasoned to perfection and made with love--you can taste it in every bite. Most weeks I grab the baked chicken and Cajun salmon, but I've also had the turkey chops and fried chicken. Baby, all of it hits. The sides? Don't play with me--the yams are everything, the mac and cheese is creamy and rich, the spicy cabbage has the right kick, and the red beans and string beans remind me of Sunday dinner at home. We've had the soul rolls (so good!) and my daughtet tore up the oxtails--she said they were fire too. And let me tell you, I thought I didn't like blue Kool-Aid. I'm a red Kool-Aid girl through and through. But theirs? Oh my goodness... one sip and I was converted. It's that good. If you want food that tastes like it came straight from somebody's kitchen, this is where you need to be.

I just had the lamb chop plate with Mac n cheese and collard greens. Not a big mac fan but geez so flavorful! Blue drink to wash it down and honey butter bread for dessert. Everything was amazing! Plus it's reasonably priced. This place is goated. Looking for to trying the delicious looking turkey chops next.

The food was delicious and the service was great. Inside of Buddha Market on Slauson, there is a bit of a wait but there is seating and if you need something in the market; you can always do a little shopping in the meantime. I like the convenience of this place when I have a taste for soul food. I will return.

That ain't it. The greens salty and chicken too were bad, the mac and cheese is velveta. They will not be challenging for the top spot anytime soon.

This is best soul food in the area and the price is not an indication of how GREAT it is. Catfish plate, 2 sides and a corn bread muffin 19.99. . Customer Service great. I wanted Mac n cheese. Worth the 10 min wait!!! Greens nice an vinegary. I want them to cater some of my thanksgiving dinner. Don't sleep on buddah market too. Got some curry powder and some blackened seasonings.

I have been here twice the first time I had the fried catfish sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese. I will give that a 10 out of 10 the next time I visited I had the lamb chops when I tell you those were the best lamb chops. I have literally ever tasted very tender flavorful and they put this little sauce on it.

The food is a really, really good. The servers are amazing really nice and personable. It's inside of Buddha market so it really gives you a bodega style place in LA where u get some good food and you can grab you some groceries while you're there one stop shop!! SIDENOT: their cornbread muffins should be illegal. They are divine.

What an amazing take out soul food spot. The food was seasoned to perfection with ample servings. I had lamb chops which were so good with collards, flavorable and very tender, and the most amazing garlic mash potatoes. A must try is their soul rolls which is basically a complete dinner inside a roll. It had greens, turkey meat, Mac & cheese, beans and yams wrapped in a wonton and deep fried. So good and filling. Can't wait to try their oxtails. Reasonable prices and pleasant workers. You get a 4% discount if paying with cash. I highly recommend.

This is my second third time ordering their wings special. The first time the wings were small (chicken size) flavorful and tasty. The next two times they must of had another cook that only seasons with extra salt and the wings are damn near the size of turkey wings. Can we say full of antibiotics. Twice now my wings came damn near burnt from this place. I'm gonna need this restaurant to have some consistency in their cooking. Right now, I'm not comfortably buy from them cause it's gonna be a surprise every time while my money stays consistent. So, disappointed.

For my first time eating here, I ordered the Soul roll and Lamb Chop Entree with 2 sides. The chops were cooked to perfection, and the soul roll was enough all by itself!!! Definitely coming back to try another dish!!

Disgusting and so unsanitary. This place had a SNICKERS WRAPPER on my plate. And I'm allergic to caramel! Not to mention I paid an extra $4 to have all wings and they gave me 2 wings and a drumstick. The driver did not tamper with my food. The bag was properly tied and it wouldn't have made sense for someone to pick up my soul roll just to put the wrapper there--it was a preparation issue. Also the lack of yam sauce has nothing to do with the driver, because the food couldn't have been "altered" by anyone besides who made it.

One of the stops at the Black LA Food Tour with Daisy, I had to come back on my own! The catfish was perfectly seasoned and crispy, tender and juicy inside. Mac and cheese was also well seasoned, I had their banana pudding as well and was very impressed. Excellent soul food, it is also located in a market which sells even more fresh banana pudding, so overall it's a great location! I ordered so many cornbread muffins they even tossed on an extra one, which was super sweet of them. Will definitely be coming back!

I ordered a soul roll and a side of mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was al dente and cheesy and delicious. The soul roll was absolutely amazing. Served with a side of that yam juice or shall we call it AU JUS! Brought everything together! The staff was pleasant and you could tell that they really know how to cook. I will be returning.

Yes it's inside a grocery store, but they have a designated spot and seating while you wait for your order. The service is great the young man is professional pleasant and passionate. The oxtails were cooked perfectly season tender and they gravy incorporates the pan droppings from the meat and not just mixed flour gravy. Now to be honest. I didn't eat or take the pictures of my meal when I got it but hours later that's why the smothered chicken doesn't look smothered the gravy soaked in. Yes the chicken has flavor the gravy was good. The banana pudding had no slices of banana but the pudding itself was banana flavored. Yes not a banana fan I do like it just push the sliced banana on the side so I can just eat the pudding and waffles. I don't like when the pudding is flavored anything but vanilla but since there's no real banana in their pudding I guess that's why. But I'm not going to lie I did eat more than one bit. If German chocolate cake is your thing you'd like this but I feel like I'm a fake Caribbean cause I don't like banana or coconut on cake lol. Still loved this place them oxtails

I tried A Family Affair after friends/family tried it and loved it. I ordered from DoorDash and picked it up. I was surprised when entering to see the interior housed a butcher shop, grocery area, liquor store and restaurant in one. There were a lot of local residents stopping in for lunch; definitely a popular spot. I ordered the catfish dinner with greens and Mac/cheese. The food was a bit salty but was seasoned so well. I typically prefer to make soul food at home but this is a decent spot for LA.

Food was all honestly delicious however the collards could have been cooked a little longer in my opinion. The staff was all wonderful and they even let us use a small table to eat on. Catfish was BOMB Mac and cheese BOMB Banana pudding was BOMB

I ordered on Uber Eats and they forgot my koolaid which sucks cuz now I have nothing to wash it down with and I ordered a side of ride beans not 13 beans over a pile of rice the food the cabbage didn't have any bell peppers like it said taste cool not bad 6/10 fr

FIIIIIRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE WOOOOOWWW. I came all the way from Huntington Beach to try their food and it was worth every minute of traffic. Fantastic, staff was cool, and they put a piece of love in everything.

A Family Affair Southern Cuisine is easily one of the top 5 Southern-style eateries in Southern California. The food is packed with authentic flavor, prepared with love everyday by J & Brittany, and absolutely delivers that soul food comfort. Given how competitive the Southern cuisine scene is in Los Angeles, that's high praise--but trust me, it's well deserved. This place is a must-try for anyone who loves great Southern cooking.

I only ordered the side dishes (all of them) and they were all good. I can't wait to try the entrees and the customer service was very nice and professional.

Yum! I ordered the fried chicken breast and wing and it was juicy and flavorful made to order the collard greens were well seasoned the best I ever had, wow the spicy cabbage! Incredible the cornbread was freshly made nice and warm. The homemade German chocolate cake was so fresh that it was warm. The two lovely ladies very so sweet and warm they made me feel like family. You can taste the love in their food amazing! I will be going there again.

I never leave reviews but the meal was perfect. Oxtails were perfectly seasoned and tender, the fried chicken was perfect, Mac & cheese was elite and the cherry on top was a perfect corn bread. Everyone was friendly.

Oh man this is a rough rating. We really, really wanted to like this place-- the seasonings in principle are all great, garlic mashed potatoes, deep fried and breaded turkey, ox tails... ... but just about everything we had on the menu was too salty. Not sure if it was just an off day or something else? But we had leftovers and even the next day, when eaten more carefully with the rice and beans, things were still too salty. That said everyone really seems to love this place, inside a grocery store with high ceilings and ample parking means tons of appropriate character as well... but this visit did not do it for us.

Heard so much about this place online. Honestly, it wasn't my fav. The smoothered turkey chops were too salty, cabbage just had spice no flavor, the mac n cheese was ok, beans and rice was the best side, yams were alright. They'd run out of greens. The catfish tasted like the ocean.... The best thing is the SOUL ROLL. It was an experience, but I wouldn't eat here again.

I recently placed an order with your business, but I was charged $24.86 for an item that was out of stock. Instead of notifying me, you substituted the item without my consent. After waiting an hour for a response, I discovered this issue. I contacted your business to request a refund, but I have not received my money back, and my call was disconnected when I followed up. It has now been three days with no resolution. I am requesting an immediate refund of $24.86 to the original payment method. If I do not receive a response within 48 hours, I will have no choice but to dispute the charge with my bank and report this issue to consumer protection agencies. Please confirm when the refund has been processed. I expect prompt action to resolve this matter.

Was served Mac and Cheese I watched her make after 5 mins in the oven was uncooked...waited over hour for order...was told she didn't put my turkey chops in the fryer because she didn't have the right seasoning...where there is a entire isle with seasonings in the store. Got home and cooked my Mac and Cheese. Chops only tasted of thyme...no salt...pepper nothing...I drove from Pico/Fairfax area...2 hours for horrible service and food...nice concept was hopeful...needs mature adults to run for customer service and quality assurance. I watched a few people leave didn't have menu items...I feel they were overwhelmed...but don't sale uncooked or undercooked food...I had to ask to make sure my meat was cooked as she and the cashier kept looking at my chops as if they didn't know if they were done...who hired them...

On the day my daughter and I came we ordered different types of fish , I ordered catfish and I didn't receive catfish , my daughter ordered red snapper and she received something else as well . The food was way too salty that day besides the mixed up order . The greens were not enjoyable too much salt , please taste your food before serving to know if it's too salty , I will eventually give them another try ! The ambiance of the store was warm and friendly as well as the staff .

ABSOLULTE FABULOUS FOOD!!! Purchased the Groupon. $36.00 for $75.00 dollars worth of food. What an amazing deal! Here are the goodies we got: Fried Chicken with cabbage and macaroni and cheese...YUM! Smothered turkey chops with cabbage and macaroni and cheese...YUM! Veggie plate with cabbage and macaroni and cheese...YUM! Soul Rolls (these are amazing!). But wait, there's more! We also ordered a slice of their German Chocolate Cake - OMG! One of the BEST pieces of cake...EVER!!! The service was outstanding - courteous and professional. Do yourself a favor - purchase the Groupon and head down to A Family Affair. If they're interested, my husband and I will be their spokespeople! Wishing A Family Affair success now and always! You know this place is good when our party of 30 people all complimented the food and asked where we got it. I did a TON of research to find the perfect Southern/Creole restaurant to cater for our New Orleans themed Super Bowl party. From the online menu to the ordering process and day of delivery, Jakiya was very accommodating and made sure we got our food delivered on time. Some of our favorite dishes were the seafood pasta (crab legs - hello!), collard greens, gravy, and banana pudding, but the jambalaya, smothered chicken, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and beef sausage were all so flavorful too. I am so glad I found this restaurant and look forward to dining there soon. Plus, I love supporting local, small businesses!

The service is rude. "Did they tip?" I beg your finest pardon? I just gave you $55! Absolutely won't be back to this gnat infested, lunch counter inside of a liquor store establishment...it aint that good.

Worst turkey chops I ever had they were soggy & drenched in thyme and herbs you can barely taste the seasoning. Yams taste like nutmeg. & my red beans and rice were missing.

I had a HORRIBLE experience at this place Friday, May 16th. I heard about them on Instagram and how great their food was, especially their soul food egg rolls. I was on my way to visit with family and thought it would be nice to bring food, so we can nibble and chat. Prior to going, I look on "A Family Affair Southern Cuisine" website and I noticed they offered May 16th Specials. The website listed Red Snapper & Fries or Catfish and Fries for $9.99. I thought, wow, great deal. I also looked at the regular menu and saw soul food egg rolls, one for $6 or two for $10. When I arrived and placed my order the meals were rung up at $11.43 each and the egg rolls were rung up at $7.24 and the second egg roll was $7.16. I asked the cashier about the specials and prices I saw listed online at $9.99 and $10 for two egg rolls and out of nowhere another young woman appeared from behind the wall and began speaking to me saying other customers who shop for groceries know and understand cost increases and inflation and the prices on their website are not current, but their other customers understand and don't have an issue with paying the difference in cost. I was very polite, I did not raise my voice, I simply stated to her, that her website listed one price and I was rung up at a very different price and her website was a direct representation of her establishment. She told me she does not have the ability to update her social media pages with current pricing as quickly as her in store price list, so that is why the pricing is different. Again, I pointed out she should have better access or control over what is listed on her website as it directly reflects her. She got an attitude and stated "I just approved your refund." I expressed to her that I did not require a refund and she could keep the difference in cost. Her actions demonstrated the blame was on me and implied that I do not understand the costs we are ALL paying for food and inflation and I'm the problem and do not have the right to question their pricing. I have EVERY right to question pricing if I saw "MAY 16TH SPECIALS" on their website. It did not read "Friday Specials", it read "MAY 16th SPECIALS". Don't advertise something on YOUR WEBSITE with a specific date associated with it, that you are unable to honor. That's HER FAULT, not mine. Insulting me and implying I don't understand costs, tariffs, and inflation is very disrespectful, as I have a family that I feed everyday. I am also a FF&E Senior Project Manager for a very large purchasing firm and my job and job security is DIRECTLY impacted by the Chinese Tariffs, in particular. I read about Tariffs daily, as there are current tariffs on metal beams required for structural support, lumber required for building hotels, and FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) required for furnishing hotels. I know ALL about tariffs, inflation, etc. I'm a pro on it, actually! To add insult to injury, I later learned the young man working behind the counter felt the need to apologize to the customer who ordered behind me, and told her "I'm sorry about that customer before you, some customers feel entitled". That conversation happened AFTER I left the restaurant and what he did not know is that the woman he apologized to about my "so called" entitled behavior was the neighbor to my family member I was visiting with. How rude of him! I was not disrespectful, I did not raise my voice, nor did I exude a sense of entitlement. I simply asked why the difference in cost between what was on their website and what I paid and I had EVERY RIGHT to question that. When I received my order, I noticed they included a $2 refund in a plastic bag and placed it in my "To Go" bag, but to be honest, that was not the correct refund amount. The correct refund amount would have been more like $3.00, if we were addressing the fish special only (not the soul food egg roll). Either way, I went there with a SINCERE intention to support a local Black Business. I 100% regret spending my hard earned $44.90 + $3.00 tip I left in their tip jar at this establishment, especially since I am an amazing cook myself who can also throw down on soul food. I am disappointed in the undeserved treatment I received, as my intentions were to sincerely support a local black establishment who I was told offered good, quality food. I am very insulted by the young man who felt the need to apologize for my behavior when I was nothing but polite.

Oh my god, I can talk about this soul food spot ALL DAY. Let me be ambassador or something lol. I LOVEEEE A Family Affair's Soul food, and I even think it's better than Dulan's (no hate to Dulan lol). I used to go to their older location on Manchester but sadly that location is gone :(...... HELLO TO THE NEW LOCATION ON SLAUSON THOUGH. I recently went to their newer location for the first time and I was not disappointed! It's inside the liquor store which may seem like a con but honestly, they made a little area for themselves & their customers which I can appreciate! Upon my arrival, I gave her the name for my order and she fixed my plate real quick for me. The woman there are always so friendly and chatty too! I love it and I love this restaurant! Thank you for the delicious food

Food was delicious. I'll be back. The only reason I knocked off a star is because I ordered salmon online and when my hubby got there they were out and she substituted snapper. That was fine but the snapper dinner cost less than the salmon and there was no refund of the difference or offer for a drink or something. However the food was great and I will buy again. Hadn't been in the Buddha Market in years so I was hesitant to order but the hubby said it looked clean so I'm good.

So first I have to say be very careful when driving here because we missed this place 3 times. Fun fact: it is located in the back of an interesting market that has so many cool things (while waiting for our food we took a little tour and we will definitely come back). Though the actual restaurant is more like a To-go area for hot deli, staff was very friendly and answered all my questions while taking my order. They have a large menu and we couldn't decide so we ordered a bit of everything. For the most part, the food was solid but the clear star of the show were the crab claws. They were super tasty and seasoned really well in some butter sauce with herbs and Cajun seasoning. Me and my family enjoyed the fried okra as well (I typically hate okra but this was great). I really enjoyed the red beans and rice also. However, I would steer clear of the macaroni and cheese as it was a bit mushy and compared to the other food bland. My stepfather who is a huge chicken person loved the bake chicken due to the nice marinade. The mash potatoes were not good though as they tasted like they came out of a box. However, the gravy was something special and it went really well with the smothered chicken. Overall, I would definitely come back but mainly for the crab claws.
