A-House

The back patio was a nice spot to spend a little time, especially with the beautiful (but spooky!) view that we had. The music was better than other bars and clubs, but the dance floor didn’t get busy until around 11PM. The cover was $20 per person.

My husband and I stopped in for a drink and maybe for a little bit of making out. We didn’t go to the actual club part of the bar which had a $20 cover which we thought was a little ridiculous. But welcome to Provincetown. The drinks were strong the bartender was friendly and quick, but I thought the cocktails here way too expensive. I doubt we’ll go for dancing with a $20 cover, but there’s definitely lots happening on the dance floor.

My husband and I visited The A Bar at about 3:30 pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, also our 10th wedding anniversary. There was one bartender and three other people in the bar. We sat immediately in front of the bartender and stayed for about three minutes. He never looked up at us, never said anything to us, and seemed to be rather angry and miserable. We walked out after three minutes. We visited later that night and the other bartenders were better. The place is dark, seedy, and mostly a pick-up joint, which can be good.

Bartender was absolutely rude. Overnight and forgot to tip cash and the bartender intentionally walked up to us and harassed us to pay tip. Rude service and not a friendly atmosphere

Fun club in Provincetown. Friendly atmosphere. Engaging employees. Has a nice outside area/patio with bar to take a break from the dance flloor. Enjoy!

This place is garbage, The worst service I have ever had and the The place is dark, seedy. I reported to the bartender that I saw a rat and they said they know they have a rodent problem 😲. I also got attitude at the door coming in there that I did not have a digital ID and charged me an extra $20. This place is the worst place I have ever been too, almost seems like I should of entered through the back door. *GRIADMF*

Super fun dance club in Provincetown! We always hit this place up when we are in town. Awesome music, and inside dance club. Outside patio is super sweet amd a lot of fun!

Grossly rude bartender that did a terrible job making the our overpriced, teacup size drinks. He was not friendly or approachable whatsoever.

It's Okay depending on which bartender ie serving you. There's no happy hour so be prepared to dig deep in your pockets to pay for drinks because it's cash only.

The staple gay club in P-Town. It's a fun and cool gay club. Good music and drinks are ok. The only issue really is that the cover is pretty steep ~$20 and the drinks are also mid- to high- range for standard cocktails. I would hope that the cover would at least get you a 1 drink voucher. I didn't experience any rudeness from the staff like what many of the reviews were complaining about. There are plenty of bars, both indoors and outdoors, available. Again, it's a fun time, I just wish they didn't overprice at the door and at the bar.

Bartenders were horrible and disrespectful. Trying to order a drink leave a tip and get scoft at bcuz the tip wasn't enough. Being a female in there is a no no. Left the bar upset and ruined my night all because the Bartenders. Don't they want a good tip? There are other places that are so much better and treat all w respect.

Visited here on my first trip to Ptown and I will 100% be back. The music was great, the crowd was awesome and the bartender was properly surly with a heavy pour. Clothes check filled up fast but there's a convenient bench to pile stuff under. There's plenty of space to be away from the crowded dance floor if that's what you want but the dance floor is big with plenty of room to squeeze copious amounts of sweaty club goers. Perfect place for me!!!

Small drinks at a premium price. I understand it's off season but you need to understand that the off season clientele are just normal New England people having a get-away before the season starts in our town. Drinks are expensive and just when I started chatting with a local my $11 drink turned into an $11 club soda. This happened twice. I left the bar. The bartender isn't rude because he doesn't talk. But Seriously why ruin my conversation with my future husband?

To the bartender in the mid bar before the patio bar that multiple people have referenced in their reviews....and somehow still has a job at this place: Negroni: 1 ounce gin 1 ounce Campari 1 ounce sweet vermouth I know the "mean bartender bit" I was a berkeep for 4 years, but it only works if you know how to make your basic drinks. Otherwise, your are just being a sh##y bartender.

This very cool place is tucked away on a side street and considered the oldest bar on the Cape. Low ceilings, low barstools, crickity floors, and a crotchety bar tender. Granted it was only noon, and he had a long day ahead of him, so I'll cut him a break. Worth a quick stop in to admire some history, sip on your ice cold beer, and enjoy the feeling of the late 1700's.

Old bartender was very sexist. Immediately ignored me and looked to my male friend while we were ordering drinks, though I wasn't surprised. When I asked for a water, he tried to charge me four dollars, like I'd fall for that, and then when he finally gave me the free (((tap))) water, demanded that I say thank you Later during the night my friend gave him my hoodie to keep in the back, and when I went back (alone) to ask for it back, he refused and demanded that my friend come and get it??? Absolutely insane and the worst, most misogynistic experience I've ever had at a bar. There was also no women's room. Illegal??????

Love this place, it's a staple. We all know Wayne needs a job, but please you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. It's time for Wayne to step aside so we can have some real music. All Wayne literally does is use a Spotify playlist, I swear over the past couple of year when you look at the DJ booth he's no where to be found.. which means he is in fact not a real DJ.

On a bachelorette trip to an area supposedly welcoming community and we were appalled at the disrespect we received. Getting into the bar we had a group of 16 people. 1 of us paid for all of us and they continued to take money from 3 of us without letting us know and then refused to give us our money back. On top of that, as we walked out we got a comment "you aren't welcome here". Beyond shocked at the treatment we received. Definitely do NOT recommend and will not be giving our money to them again.

It was a fun place. It was pride weekend so that could be an additional reason why it was a lot of fun. The dj played good music. The drinks were good. Service was good. I'd visit again if I'm in the area again.

So not one to cast a bad review... but. After 6 of us paid a $20 cover to get in - which was no problem - we went to the front bar in the dance area to buy a round. My friend bought the round in cash as it's a cash only establishment- again, no problem. My friend paid and was getting some money to tip from one of the other guys. I guess it was not fast enough for the rude ass bartender who literally screamed "cmon give the man a tip". We understand and are more than happy to tip and tip well. But this was absolutely so rude and started our time there on a very bad note. I know it's the only dance place in town and will undoubtedly survive regardless of hiring a total tool like this but - they should definitely evaluate this ass being so disrespectful to patrons. Even after that - my friend tipped.

This is a classic example of a place that is able to stay open and thrive solely because it's one of the very few options available for nightlife. This place is a horrible experience, especially if you go the week of the 4th of July, so just brace yourself if that's your plan, and know that Crown & Anchor (for example) is a far better venue, in terms of the space and the treatment of customers. The inside dance floor at A House is absurdly hot and humid. Simply trying to walk across the dance floor to the back patio requires squeezing through a bunch of people and getting drenched in their sweat in the process. Like can they not turn up the air conditioning if they're going to allow this level of congestion? Going to this place is reminiscent of going to some bad college house party. But people still pile in there for lack of alternatives around. But on top of that consistent flaw, to make bad matters even worse, I just had an especially awful interaction with one of the bartenders. I ordered a drink at the archaically cash-only bar (it's 2022, such a thing should not still exist). The outside bartender (a lanky, whiny guy with long dark hair) saw me pick up my change after giving me a drink and started telling me to put some of it back down as a tip (which I planned to do until this preemptive entitlement came out). He then reiterated, "I'm talking to you, don't put all your cash away, you have to leave me a tip." I understand that you're slammed and deserve to receive tips (if you're giving quality service) but you shouldn't be harassing and yelling at your customers if they don't leave one. If it's mandatory, you need to say so beforehand or just include it in the pricing. And also if it's required, why give back all of the change to begin with? Makes no sense. Just because you don't like the American tipping system doesn't mean it isn't still voluntary for the customer, and it's not the customer's fault if your management underpays you. When I responded with "you're demanding a tip?" his defensiveness escalated to a ridiculously unprofessional level, and when I asked if I could leave the drink and get my money back instead, he also denied that with a loud "NO YOU CAN'T" and then yelled over to what I assume was their "bouncer", pointed at me, and said "WE'VE GOT A PROBLEM OVER HERE!" Never have I had such an outrageous experience with a bartender or anyone in the service industry for that matter. You don't get to insist on a tip, which is inherently an arbitrary amount of money. And with that level of entitlement you don't deserve a tip, or deserve anyone's business to begin with. You're pouring some Polar sparkling water, ice, and vodka into a tiny cup, and you're making a scene over not getting tipped by the customer you're already ripping off. When I walked away after leaving him his undeserved tip, he yelled "don't you dare come back to my bar" and then to another person said "can you believe this a**hole?" And turns out he told someone else that same night that their tip wasn't enough because they need to be leaving at least a dollar for each drink. Again, they clearly only get away with having staff with trashy behavior like this because they're one of the only options for a bar people have in this overrated town. Otherwise any normal business knows trying to have any customer that doesn't tip you thrown out of the bar is a terrible business model. Not to mention you could probably get a lawsuit against you for requiring tips since the IRS would not consider it a tip if it's mandatory. Either way, this bartender should be fired and find a line of work that doesn't require dealing with the public, or a place that actually understands basic customer service principles, and the bar owner should be ashamed for hiring this individual and allowing them to be blatantly hostile to customers. This person needs a serious ego check. I highly recommend everyone take their business to any other bar in the area.

Great neighborhood bar. Friendly service. The 3 different scented candles and the fireplace going all made it had for myself to stay. Lots of coughing from the scents and smoke. We could stay no more than an hour before we had to leave. Hopefully will not be like that come the summer.

I was visiting Ptown and went here for a night. This club attracts a sizeable crowd. I found it quite expensive for what it offers. The cover was $20 but I did not find any amenities inside justifying that much money. Drinks were quite expensive for what they were. They only do basic drinks and serve them in tiny cups. The first drink I got was weak but I switched to another bartender and that improved. Music was nice but there was a repetitive pattern in it. Maybe it's just their theme. I liked it nevertheless. The crowd is overwhelmingly non-diverse. As a POC, I felt like an outsider. But that's not specific to this club and rather applies to much of Provincetown.

We are regulars at the Little Bar, great spot with fun bunch of guys. Have only been to The late nights at Atlantic house and Macho Bar on occasion, much livelier with some great DJ's, entertainment and dancing.

Cute bar w/awesome space to dance but the bartender at the front bar as you enter is a complete DICK! He ruined our experience and we can't figure out why. Not sure if it's b/c we're females, Latinas or humans. That guy should quit his job if he's not in the people business.

Truly the embodiment of the Provincetown ripoff. They charge $20 cover, make it cash only, and then can't even throw you a bone if you'd like to drink a water. I was here tonight and paid for several drinks including some for my friends. Then when I tried to drink water to keep going so I could a) not die and b) stay out later and inevitably spend more money at this place, I was told that I had to pay $4 for a 250 mL bottle of water. I would have but I only had $3 and they refused to give me tap to stay hydrated. That attitude is evidences how little fucks they could give about their clientele and their safety. Why do we go here again?!

Drinks that are far too strong to drink, made with shitty bottomshelf booze for far too much money, bartenders who seem like they could give two flying $%&#s, a dark and awkward bar on the lower level, Vegas upstairs (what happens in Vegas....) and a dance club with some late 80's/early 90's gay boy playlist... WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR? This is one of those places, where if you come with expectations you are easily going to be let down! I have always had a great time here... A visit to Ptown would be a visit to Ptown without a sweaty dance party at the A House!

The A House Macho Bar is a fun smaller alternative to the big A House Dance Club next door. This small bar is a pub, with a leather/ levi feel to it. I love the old salted flavor to this bar. The old nautical decorations, and old bottles that hang from the bar and ceiling beams. It even has a real fire place to get warm in the winter. This bar is open during the day and the upstairs "macho Bar" is open at nightly which gets a bit fun & frisky.

I have been coming to the A house for close to 20 years and have always had a great time and they have always had a friendly staff. On Monday August 5th I went with old friends that have been there multiple times and new friends that have never been. The bartender upstairs was Rude as could be as I ordered drinks he had no smile or nothing and just smirked. Then when he returned my change just threw it on the bar and walked away. We were not drunk at all so whatever his attitude was whatever. The door man even worse to one of us cause he tripped and was told he was drunk and had to leave ? He didn't even have a whole drink! Either wAy I don't write reviews but I know the group of us and many others that we talk to will not ever be returning to this venue.

The server was rude and confrontational, and just unhappy. Also I caught someone trying to steal my wallet. The server threw a tip at a customer.

Rich with history and hot men, and friendliest staff this side of the Mississippi. I wish I could give 6 stars. Best place to go dancing and macho bar is hot

Everyone was incredibly wonderful at the bar and upstairs club. My friend and I went to the downstairs dance club on a Tuesday night. We were the only customers in that side of the bar. We were looking for a queer place to dance. My buddy plugged their phone in the outlet above the fire alarm. A man from the bar accosted them and told them "not to pull the fire alarm" I told the bartender they were just plugging in their phone, and were about to order drinks. Bartender said he "saw us playing with the fire alarm" I said they were only plugging in their phone at the outlet above it. He was a piece of shit to us--and seemed a little trans phobic. Told us to "unplug the phone and leave" we did so and left. Went to velvet instead. It was great. Go there instead unless you are a cis gay man.

Horrible experience. I'm a female and went with a lesbian couple. Everything was fine (aside from the absurdly strong reek of urine and BO) until the last 30 min or so when a rude man kept aggressively ramming into us on the dance floor. Turns out he was doing it on purpose and when we politely asked him to stop he got in our face and told us to get out and we don't belong there and flicked his hand towards the door motioning for us to leave. Several other men got between us bc it looked as if he was actually going to physically attack us! When we told the bouncer he said there was nothing he could do! B.S.!!! I thought that P- town was a warm and welcoming place to all people but I was wrong and I'll never go back to the "A- House" that's for sure!

Giving a one star because it won't allow me to give negative stars. Second visit only ever and the second I walked in encountered a rude scrawny thing by the do not open door. Front door guy said me and my friend could peek to see the dance crowd and this thing cause it was so disgusting I can't even call it human starts to scream like he's in a jungle somewhere. Tried to explain and didn't understand anything just yelling like a freak. No need to ever step foot in their again. Great way to welcome tourists and new customers no wonder their rating is so low. And it smelled in there. Stay away!

Having visited P-Town during Women's Week for Jenna C's birthday, I found myself escaping to this gay bar for a short while--and thank goodness the men were there to report. A small little bar attached to one of Provincetown's most popular gay dance clubs, this place is great for drinks & mingling with friends or strangers. Take a seat at the bar but be aware, the stools are old and quite loose--I may or may not have looked like an ass hat when I attempted to plop down. The bartender is quick to serve and happy to dish the sauce. The men are friendly (Oh yeah, we've left Boston) and are more than happy to strike up a conversation. The bar is dimly lit and resembles that of an old colonial house or barn. The bathroom doors mimic an outhouse and yet there is video poker lurking off in the corner--makes sense, right? I loved this place. I needed beer. I needed to be around men. For a moment I thought I was a straight dude hittin' up my local sports pub on game day.

A-House... Oh how drunk you made me! Seriously, the drinks are 98% alcohol, 1% ice, and 1% mixer. The first sip might taste just you straight-up tipped the bottle into your mouth, but you get use to it. In the main room there are 3 separate bars, and outside there are an additional 3 bars. You don't have to wait for a drink, and both nights we went the bartenders remembered our orders and all we had to say was "another round"! It rocked! Bartenders in underwear is usually pretty cool - but the one was a little scary... The Gaucho from Uruguay. His junk was massive, and not in a cool way! The music was pretty good, mostly house with a bit of funk spun in. The dance floor went from 3 dancers to 100 in less than 10 minutes. Lots of sweaty half naked guys, very few lesbians...

Stepped one foot in this place and stepped right back out and left. I would say enter at your own risk... We were two straight women looking for some good, clean fun and were recommended this place by our hotel check-in agent who told us that the 9pm Drag Bingo is a fun time. We got there about 8:50 and walked in to a dark, seedy room with one bartender and 1 patron at the corner of the bar. We asked about the bingo and they said to come back at around 9:30-ish. Left went to the Wave Bar (this will be another review), came back and saw the drag queen just getting out of the taxi and entering the place. At this point, I just didn't feel comfortable entering the place especially due to some reviews I had found about the upstairs bar area having x-rated paraphernelia and people engaging in public acts of lewdness.

I came on the off-season and in the early evening, so there were mostly locals inside and it wasn't crowded. Expect no frills. They don't even have cherries, so their mixed drinks selection is limited. With that said, the bartender gave me a hefty tall cup of Baileys on the rocks instead. So I sipped my Baileys and fell in love with all of the bottles, oars and other nautical objects that look like they're for whaling that adorn the bar. Upstairs later I suppose they have gay porn, but it was locked up when I was there. Anyway, a cool dark place to catch up with friends over a drink and clearly a place to make new friends later in the evening.

Ok... so the A House... what can I tell you? It is a must in the Provincetown night scene. You will feel like you are tripping your ass off when you walk on the dance floor b/c of all the lights and smoke effects. Don't be totally turned off if you happen to rub up against some half naked hairy men who don't seem to have discovered the usefulness of deodorant. On the plus side, there are some SMOKING hot patrons and barteneders. The drinks are CHEAP and STRONG (think the Eagle in Boston, with a larger dance floor!)

Iconic bar-club in P-town. Same DJ for like 40 years who still can't mix two songs together. Stick with beer, 6 oz mixed drinks with 2 second pours (if your lucky). Over priced P-town BS.

All I heard was how great the DJ was for months before my first trip to P-town. Well, the first night was a disaster. The music was old disco, and a few 80's songs thrown in. And then the killer, a horrible, washed up singer named France (I think that was her name). A few nights later, the music was better, but the crowd is nasty. Very few hot guys, a ton of drunk knuckledraggers falling all over each other. And the place needs a renovation. It smells like piss. The dancefloor is too small. But the worst part was the drag show at the end of each night. Way to kill an event. For $10 I expect much more than ugly drunks, mediocre music, and pathetic drag queens.

I'm a straight woman and they literally treated us like shit on the bottom of their shoe. They want people to be accepting and then they treat everyone else like shit that isn't like them. I wouldn't recommend any straight person going there evvvvveer. The bartenders were miserable people. Not to mention I ordered two soda waters and they charged be $8 dollars and had the nerve to wait for a tip. Worst place ever and so unappreciative!!!

I've been going to Provincetown for 3 years now both during the busy season and the off season. This place is always been fun. I've never gotten punched, shoved or yelled at, lol. I've gotten to know the staff a bit and they've been nice to me. That doesn't mean I haven't seen some stuff go down. Keep in mind the thousands upon thousands of tourist and people they see every single year and how many of those are drunk and acting stupid. I'd grow tired of it too sometimes. If they don't let you in they don't let you in, go somewhere else; there are other awesome places to go too. The bouncers in the front, always been nice to me, lol, she's funny as hell imho, just don't walk up and start problems.

Came here on a Thursday night during Carnival week. This place is super happening. When we arrived it was starting to get crowded but by midnight you could hardly move in this place. The dance floor gets incredibly packed. Drinks are nice and strong and the bartenders friendly.

Lose your shirt at the door! Went here for a night of dancing on my last night on Cape Cod. Wow, shirtless men everywhere. Where to look first? Small and expensive drinks, but potent. Dance floor is smaller than I expected and it fills up quickly. House music was decent. Danced for quite some time, until it became so packed that it was no longer dancing but was avoidance of getting stepped on or rubbed against by very sweaty men. Sorry, you're hot and all, but not when you stink and your pits are basically in my face. Regardless, I had a great time and I look forward to checking out the rest of the place.

.Went here with my husband during our 2nd honeymoon vacation. We had a blast! There are essentailly three bars. The one downstairs, which is small laid back and fun ( they served in plastic cups, but the drinks are still strong and good), the one upstairs from there which has a much more sexual nature (porn on the tv and guys doing things in the corners of the dark room), and the club which has a cover, but is more than worth it to dance on the floor with my hubby and all the other guys having a great time! I would recomend a jack and coke or a gin and tonight. The bartenders were also very friendly as was the woman outside the club checking IDs and taking covers! We will definitly go back for more drinks and more dancing.

I absolutely loved this little bar. It had an awesome vibe and the drinks were not too expensive. The dance floor has got a good amount of space. And if you're not feeling like dancing, the bar is separate from the dance floor. It's a great place to meet the locals and visitors alike.

Why isn't Macho Bar called "The Eagle"? Now, Macho Bar only gets two stars because it's not my scene. If I were a leather bear or a bear chaser, this would probably be my speed. But I'm not and I've never felt more like chicken than I did here with all the chicken hawks circling. Super strong drinks, but way overcrowded and hot. Dangerous decor (hack saws on the walls of the stairs...other tools.

This location is discriminatory towards women. I went to this location, expecting to enjoy some drinks and dancing. Once I got in, one customer said to me, " I am driving men away and I should leave". When I notified the bouncer, he said "whatever, what can I do". We left the place extremely upset. Point is, avoid this place if you are a woman. The customers/bouncer can be discriminatory towards women.

Pretty chill place, nice bartenders and a popular night scene. Dance floor doesn't blow up until late (past 1130) during the week at least. Keep in mind the upstairs bar "macho bar" is a gay sex bar (leather bar). Playing gay porno, condoms in bowls on the counter, people exchanging bjs in the dark corners... The boys get angry when you ask too many questions and no girls are allowed upstairs so avoid this part of the establishment if anonymous public gay sex isn't your thing...drinks are average price for P-town, everyone in the downstairs bar was friendly and having a lot of fun. No A/C

If you have never been to Provincetown, check it out. If you want to dance your ass off, check it out. Other than that you'll definitely, find better drinks for your dollar elsewhere. Be prepared for Very SMALL $10-$15 "thimble sized drinks." Along with a $10 cover to get in.

We walked in and the bar tender was an mean from the start. If you are a girl the crowd deliberately shoves you around to get you out. We left two minutes after coming in and tried to get our cover charge back. The lady at the door insulted all of us for being straight. Called us cunts. This place ruins Ptowns fun reputation. DO NOT GO THERE!

I've been going to Ptown since I was a kid and always have had a good time. Was there for my bachelorette party last night. The AC was recommended to us by several people that this is the best place to dance and get drinks. Nope, not even close to the door and Wonderwoman took one look at us and said we're not allowed to come in. She said there's not enough security to handle us. What does that even mean? If this is the best place to go out I suppose you have to look a certain way to get in. Discrimination much?

Heheheheheh. The A-house. OH the A-house. My recommendation? Start off in the dark, divey downstairs bar (gets busy after 10) and graduate to the dance floor (gets lively around midnight). A real mixture of friendly and completely bitchy staff, which always makes for a hilarious evening. Bottom line? Everyone ends up at the A-house for a boogie - so if its slow to start with - hang around...that won't last forever.

I love Provincetown and the Atlantic House. The one star is for the bartender by the bathrooms. I have never been treated so poorly by a bartender in my life. Questioning a tip on the smallest three drinks costing $35. "What's the percentage of $35?" he inquired. Do yourself a favor and skip that bar, enjoy the dancing. Also if you are management, fire this individual.

Not much to say .... It's a gay bar. Cocktails are served in tiny 6 oz glasses $9 - 12 depending. All the gay bars/clubs use these tiny glasses and is all ice. Just be aware. Ptown is expensive that's it. Kind of creepy upstairs.
