First time here for a soccer game and had a great experience. Great sports bar with great wait staff. Our server was super awesome and took great care of everyone at our table. I liked that the place has an outdoor patio with TV stations in place. Great spot to enjoy games or just hang out with friends. We tried the fish & chips, Shepard's pie and firecracker fries. The food was really good and the serving portion was also good. Overall had a great experience and will be back again. If you are fan of soccer, this is the place to be.

Came to watch the Euro soccer cup. The staff made sure they had the game on the right the TVs so we could watch the game we were interested in. We had tinga nachos and the Buffalo cauliflower - above average snacks! The beer was good too.

Friendly pub for European soccer and rugby fans. Good selection of tap beers. Food is pretty good, but it's been a couple years since I've actually eaten there. Mostly, I stop for a beer before or after a Cubs game. A little pricey, but not too bad.

AJ Hudson’s Public House hosts the Liverpool FC Supporters Group and did an excellent job. They were open early for the 8am kickoff, well staffed at the bar, and tables. The atmosphere was friendly and offered plenty of TV’s. Come early to ensure a spot as it’s a prime spot in Chicago for EPL and Celtic games.

Honestly, one of THE most amazing burgers in a long, long time. If you see the garlic parm burger of the day show up, GET IT. It was amazing. Great service too. An awesome neighborhood hand out

Delicious food, excellent service and great atmosphere. Always a good place to go. Wings, soups, hamburgers and (surprisingly) coffee are outstanding.

I came here around lunchtime on a Friday to watch a soccer match. The atmosphere was what you would expect from a sports bar. I ordered the boneless chicken wings and the regular wings. The house buffalo sauce was amazing, it had just the right amount of kick. The Korean bbq sauce was also amazing. Overall, the food was pretty good.

The staff is very kind and helpful. The food is pub with a home cooked flair. Very nice. Pretty good beers on tap.

Let me tell you guys about A.J Hudson's! Sports bar with amazing food, a little expensive but it's consistently good. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun. They have indoor and outdoor seatings its on a nice quiet block on Ashland just before Irving park, there's always a fair amount of people here but it's never overcrowded. The waitress was amazing, consistently checking in, making sure our water was replenished and asking if we needed refills on our drinks. On our visit there this week. My friend got the bacon French onion grilled cheese ($17) we shared the chicken wings - Mild flavored ($17) and I got the chicken tenders W/ Nashville hot dipping sauce, and bbq) ($14) The mild chicken wings are so good, the chicken is juicy and the flavor is strong. The chicken tenders are chicken tenders I mean but that Nashville hot sauce is something different, I don't know how they do it but I'm addicted. My friend said the bacon French onion grilled cheese was the best grilled cheese they've ever had. Overall great experience as usual With all the food and two cocktails (one each) our bill came out to $79 pre tip which isn't terrible but is a little up there in terms of price but for the quality of food and service it's worth it.

Open early for all soccer-footie. (Like) Really early, sometimes. So much vocal enthusiasm expressed for the beautiful game that, frankly, and this is not intended to be in any way critical, I mean, so passionate are the outbursts of zealous gratitude for the divine gift that is, simply, soccer (or football, or whatever you call the greatest game ever, invented by the English), sometimes ya can't even hear the jukebox. Just saying. I don't recommend trying to play the jukebox during soccer-footie matches. I might speak from experience. Or just know from the solitary shred of common sense I enjoy. So, I have it from at least 2 credible sources that A.J. Hudson's (a.k.a., formerly, as "Ginger's Ale House") renews and maintains at least 2 grand historic traditions: that of English "Public House'' hospitality (whereby all are welcome, including dogs), as well as that of celebrating "the world's game" with all lovers of "the beautiful game", whether domestic, international, or just global. And they do that and more better than any other so called "pub" or "soccer bar". It's the only such place which I can recommend. So I do so sincerely and emphatically-- Prolly cuz it's the only such place I'm willing to go. But then, as confessed above, I only speak from (many years of) experience, and from the kind of simple common sense which guided me to root for Newcastle United (for what seems like decades).

We're in town for a birthday celebration, so we sought out the "Manchester City" bar to watch the match. We've been before, but today was markedly different. We arrived to multiple supporter groups present for earlier matches. It's odd to me that the bar hosts so many different club groups, but make your money, whatever. We are directed to order a drink at the bar and move to a table when the earlier matches wrap up. We do that, and find a table about 5 minutes later. They don't have any food options for us, so we grabbed bagels on the way. The server comes to the table and says we can't eat them in there. We let them know we're drinking and there's nothing we can eat on the menu, but they still say we can't eat it. Ok, we put them away immediately. No argument, no back and forth. Bagels away. She leaves. Then, the server comes back exactly ZERO times over the next 40 minutes. She passes us by over and over, asking both neighboring tables if they'd like refills on drinks and taking food orders. We were the only table in the row without waters, also never offered. After leaving our table, she put on sunglasses and never looked our way again until... I finally get up to order our 2nd drink from the bar after all that time. She sees me and immediately comes up asking "Oh, do you need something?!" I said no thanks and turned to the bar. She goes to the end of the bar, and suddenly she can see me again! In fact, she's watching me. I see her talk to staff, and they ignore me too until someone sitting at the bar says I'm waiting to place an order. They inform me I have to order with the server. I said I waited 40 minutes and would like to order at the bar. Nope, tab is hers now unless we again move seats. Mind you, she never took a single order from us. No apology for being ignored. No thanks, I'll cash out. We made a special trip here today. Never again. Next time, I'll watch on my phone before patronizing this establishment.

Have been frequenting AJ Hudson's pretty frequently due to the fact they're one of the few bars that play the CONMEBOL qualifiers of all The South American teams. As far as soccer bars go, no shade to other bars that claim they are, AJs has been the most consistent in playing the games they claim they will play. If you like watching Peru play we usually pull up here. I've eaten the wings and they honestly are pretty good, especially for just a sports bar. They have a lot of beers on tap And a broad offering. I will say that if even one person is playing pool In the back room they don't allow us to utilize the space, even if there's 30 people wearing the same jersey... would really appreciate them reconsidering this illogical practice bc it really inhibits our viewing experience

AJ Hudson's is a small sports bar and was very packed when we went on a Thursday night. The place is so small you're basically seated next to other patrons when you have a table. I do think the service was superb and we were well attended to despite it being packed. The food itself was very below average, I ordered a chicken sandwich here and the chicken patty was so small and flavorless it reminded me of my middle school lunch days except those sandwiches were 2 bucks compared to the 15 bucks here. My friend also ordered a lamb naan here that frankly looked like it came from a kids menu as the portions were so lacking--not to mention that we both felt a bit sick after. Overall the bar food here is very underwhelming.

We just moved to Chicago and this is the first place we went as it is right next to our apartment. Been in a few times now and it has not disappointed yet. It's exactly what a good pub should be... friendly service and lots of regulars, adequate selection of beer for a reasonable price, good bar food menu, and sports everywhere, especially soccer. It's divey, but not trashy. It's warm and welcoming, and a good place to stop if you just need a cold, refreshing beer after a long day.

First time going here though I've lived in the general vicinity for a while. My husband and I actually ended up here because we had gone to Uptown Tap only to find the kitchen closed at 8pm (on Sunday). Food looked a little pricey but the fish and chips were incredible! Everything was super fresh tasting and even the peas served with the fish and chips had some kind of herb which made them taste really good. The server (and bartender?) was friendly and attentive to our late Sunday patio seating (and even brought our dog a water bowl). I was able to play touch tunes from my phone app which reached the patio, and that was kind of the cherry on top to a really excellent meal and drinks.

I visited this bar recently and had a poor experience. The man seating us was remarkably rude and condescending, talked to us like we were children which set a negative tone from the start. In the past I've had a server that reeks of cigarette smoke... she needs to work on that. While the food is decent, my overall impression was soured by my last encounter with someone who appeared to be a manager. Unfortunately, this last interaction was so off-putting that I have no intention of returning. Improving the customer service would significantly enhance the overall experience. Didn't catch the guys name, but he was in a plaid T-shirt / polo that screamed "I'm a manager". I'll take my business to the piggery where they are a lot more friendly.

Stopped by for lunch and the food was excellent, even better than a month or so ago. Could not believe the freshness, flavor and presentation of the hummus appetizer with the best produce we've seen anywhere in a while. The Nashville hot chicken wings were meaty and flavorful, I like a little more heat but I understand they have to keep it at a milder level for everyone. The blue cheese dressing was also great and almost certainly homemade, with very fresh carrots and celery on the side. The fish and chips tasted great, with again fresh peas and likely homemade tartar sauce--only minor issue was the fish pieces could have been bigger or serve three instead of two. Would definitely order again though. Lonnie the bartender was friendly, informative and made the best Bloody Marys. Overall visit 4.75 out of 5

Dips had consistency of oatmeal ... chips were not dipping chips ... very odd and expensive feel scammed

My new spot. The staff here is the best. The outdoor seating area is well done. I love the menu they have, unique dishes. Clean restrooms and tons of TVs. Lots of beer options. The fire started fries are a must and the potato soup is so comforting and tasty. Go here!!

Just moved to the area and Aj's is slowly growing into my new neighborhood spot. I've order food out a few times and had the opportunity the other evening to sit down at their sidewalk patio to have a burger and drink a few beers. TVs on the sidewalk patio, had the Cubs playing. And lastly, great service and friendly vibes throughout the place.

This place is crowded. Bad food, lousy service and rude owners. Stay away. Much better places to eat and drink.

AJ's used to be a go-to neighborhood pub to watch soccer. On a recent visit, my partner and I were treated very rudely by an ignorant server. Even though my local supporter's club meets here, I will take my business elsewhere in the future.

If you spill a beer on the floor in here, it may turn into the AJ Hudson River, so watch out for that. And if Liverpool win the Premier League this season, it might be more of the Hudson Bay. Or if Barbie and I are in attendance, then the Hudson Bae. This is not a bad soccer Pub, and we were able to watch the Liverpool game here and everything was fine - however it wasn't our favorite. There wasn't a lot of room. We managed to find a place to sit and watch, but only because I'm a rude motherf***er and an alpha which is how Barbie likes me and wants me and designed me. So I kind of forced our way in there where there wasn't any space and shared a table with some dudes that clearly hadn't been planning to share a table. At least they got some sexy eye candy during the game. Not that Barbie noticed she was being watched. She was half asleep from our long drive from Columbus the evening before (I did all the driving, she did all the looking hot). Service wasn't altogether great, and some of the other fans were pretty rude towards my girlfriend - probably because of the way she was dressed - but nevertheless she gets a lot of people to be very lovely to her because of the way she's dressed or just because people are nice - so we definitely didn't have much experience of the Midwestern charm going on in here. More like Chicattitude. Parking was an absolute nightmare but I did manage to find some eventually. So I would give them five stars for showing Liverpool but -1 for some of the attitudes and they are a catch-all soccer pub, definitely not Liverpool-centric by any means. You would think in Chicago there would be a pub that is just for Liverpool like New York has and Houston has for example. Now I have to Hud-stle on to the next review.

Stopped here on a whim. Didn't expect to have my socks blown off by the food!! It's a soccer bar, a lot of different accents around. As a football fan it was very cool to see. Our server was amazing, made sure our waters were always full, got us more drinks when ours were running low, etc. The garlic parm wings are amazing, along with the tachos. I had the bacon onion grilled cheese as my main dish, wow!! It was everything I didn't think I needed.

We were excited to find a place to watch "real" football but were put off by the rudeness of our server--she completely humiliated the immigrants in our party and left one of them in tears. Maybe she's overworked. Maybe she's just an awful person. At any rate, we won't be returning. There are so many better sports bars in Chicago!

AJ Hudson's is the greatest. If you're a fan of football (soccer) like I am, this is absolutely the best place to catch the match. They have tons of TVs and show almost any match under the sun. There are teams and leagues that 90% of the world hasn't heard of, but they'll show the match here! The decor is awesome. Lots of wall space has been dedicated to a large number of teams. I am a West Ham United fan, and they definitely cater towards the Irons well here. Fun, fun environment with good staff, great ownership, good food, and cold drinks. I always, always look forward to my mornings at AJ Hudson's. The highlight of any weekend without a doubt. Do yourself a favor and check it out for an English Premier League game as soon as humanly possible!

I'm actually sitting at the bar now and just heard the bartender tell two customers that she's too busy and will get to them when she can. Granted the place is busy but no need to be rude. You're in customer service a simple "I'm on it and thanks for your patience" is all that was needed. Maybe someone called in sick. She just told guy next to me to "just wait". Food great don't come early if you want good food and good service.

We have been coming here a lot lately as it's walkable and has a cute spacious patio, the service is always great and quick even if they are slammed for a soccer game. They always have great beer options on tap and the food is really tasty too especially for a bar. It's a nice vibe too from the staff to the customers you def feel it when there for a game, even as a "not sports person" myself, I enjoyed it.

Really the only time I come to this bar is to watch my Reds kick some butt! But I have been here once for dinner as well. This is the official soccer bar for Liverpool fans and a few other soccer clubs. The atmosphere is an English sports pub with a few British food staples. I had the Hudson Burger when I came for dinner and it's just your average pub food. When I came here last weekend for the Liverpool opener, I had quite a lot of booze and the Chicken N Waffles. The Chicken N Waffles were nothing to write home about, but the breakfast potatoes were solid. I have had their bacon and egg sandwich previously and I would recommend their breakfast sandwiches. It's tough to beat a tall glass of Carlsberg for $4.50 at 6:30 in the morning and the drinks are standard prices for Chicago. The service is a bit slow, but when the bar is crammed with hungry Liverpool fans then what do you expect? If you're looking for a local watering hole and would like to watch a sports game then A.J. Hudson's is for you!

Nice bee garden area, if you can get a seat near the street on Grace. Definitely more of an ambiance place. That said, our neighboring tables had children, dogs, and sometimes both. So go after 8. Service was poor. Fall salad was a generous portion that could easily be split among 3-4 people. The sandwiches were underwhelming. The veggie burger was mushy. It fell apart. I was told to order the wings and the grilled cheese. Maybe that's the way to go.

I came for a beer tasting and stayed for lunch. The mini burgers were great- tender with lots of flavor. The fries were also quite good. The wait staff was friendly and helpful with directing us to the beer tasting and taking our food orders quickly. I would stop by if I was in the neighborhood

AJ's is the perfect neighborhood pub. It's classic bar food and drinks but it's more elevated and unique than your average bar. 5/5!

I'm very impressed by the staff-- they are kind and patient during all this COVID stuff. I called around looking for an outdoor patio and they let me know that they couldn't save me anything but that a game of some sort had just ended so if I came right away, my group could be seated without waiting. So we zoomed over. I appreciated their helpfulness. However, I'm not entirely convinced that the tables and seating are following the rules of social distancing-- they're pretty close. I like the beer list and my friend Carrie loved the tots nachos, though they could stand to have a few more vegetarian items on the menu. (I don't mind getting salads, but I know quite a few people who aren't eating cold food out during COVID). Very nice overall and cute little bottle of hand sanitizer with the check, too.

Waited an hour and a half to be seated to watch Liverpool. Door man did not seat by who got there first rather by who you are there to watch. Resulting in being next in line only to find out can't get In. So If asked you want to see whoever they are seating for because doing the right thing and waiting results in outdoor seating. It gets better. So we were cooperative an took outdoor seating. I'll be they let others in after us. We only had 2 people and willing to sit with others. Constantly told where to stand. It's a sidewalk if you want people in a certain area draw a line or put up a divider. One outdoor seating has heaters while the other doesn't. Asked if there were heaters and rudely told no. Only to have someone took them out from behind the building a few minutes later. Demand you start a tab even if not drinking alcohol. Stating it it so if someone else brings something it can be put on the bill. Orders are placed on a tablet so the bill stays together anyway. Why do you demand a credit card before an order instead of after? My previous experience has been they take forever to cash you out. Waitress slow to take drink orders and takes so long to get it together the menu changed from brunch which was one of the reasons we went, to lunch. Don't even get me started on how rude the host was. I kindly explained we had been waiting outside a long time to which he said he has been outside too. Hello that's your job. Very belittling when speaking to people. No parking. Missed the game due to being too cold to sit out and did not dress to sit outside. Host could care less. I would not be surprised if the owner/manager was the other person involved in the seating. If so shame on you. Soccer means a lot to some people. Not seating 10 min before the start of the game for people who had been waiting so long (1.5 hours) sucks Good food if you don't mind rude host and unjust seating policies. Overpriced.

Came her recently after entering Phase 4 to a very reasonable sized patio with 6 feet social distanced tables. And for an added bonus - TVS! Since reopening it seems that they have redesigned their booze and food menu, and its better then before! Not that there was anything wrong with it, its just more cohesive now and with solid cocktails so you don't have to feel embarrassed about ordering a Paloma from a pub! ;) From the new menu we've ordered the Totchos which are SO BOMB! Not necessarily made with actual Tots but more like potato curly fries if that makes sense? The new and improved Chicken Po Boy sand which is so so so good, highly recommend giving that one a-go. The burger is a classic and so are the buffalo wings which aren't overly sauce and not dry as bone either. The service here is still exceptional and friendly - truly wish I wish lived closer to this place so I could become a regular.

Not busy Saturday night waited hour for food; got appetizer last, table orders came out random times, and received wrong order twice.

Came here on a quick lunch with a friend. I love this place as a local Lakeview bar. I don't know if I would come here for food as it is pretty heavy and simple. The staff was great! Very friendly and attentive. The drinks were really good. Would love to come here again!

A.J. is a great bar with delicious bar food. I know it's known as a soccer bar with TV's all around and I'm sure soccer fans love it BUT I'm a food girl and this place does not disappoint!! The nachos are a MUST. It's one of the best I've had and worth every single calorie. It's a good portion for two but if you're having it as an appetizer it's better to share with 3-4 people. I went with a friend a couple of times and last time we ordered the signature burger and the nachos to share and we were COMPLETELY stuffed. But so happy! I'm glad I had to do some walking back home to digest.

Great Pub for watching Soccer. However the food left a lot to be desired. Had the "Traditional Fry Up" asked for no potatoes or toast. What I got was insulting. The solitary "tomato" slice was the end of the tomato and you could still see where the stem was cut off. The baked beans were room temperature. The bacon dry and not even warm. The lone sausage was pale and barely looked like it spent any time getting some color. Not sure if the kitchen staff have ever had a real "Full English Fry Up". Maybe they need a trip to The UK.

Very fun place for trivia nights on Tuesdays. The crowd is a mix. Very good food and good drinks. The staff is friendly except for one lady behind the bar, very rude and unfriendly. The Reuben sandwich is amazing. They're a soccer bar also, they play all the soccer games.

I went to AJ Hudsons with a big group and the service was great. It's a soccer bar with some pretty dim lighting but the food was great. I ordered the Mac n cheese skillet and it was DELISH! I added sautéed peppers and onions which gave it nice twist on Mac. It was affordable and I would probably return - my friend lives around the corner which was also a plus

This bar is right in one of the corners where I live now and is very cozy. The ambiance inside is very attractive for who likes sports and hangout. Outside they have tables where you can have your dog with you. I always bring mine. The food is ok. The appetizers are my favorites. I think they should have more special for drinks, cause the price is a little hi for the area. They have a pool table and lots of tv inside and outside.

Four of us entered strangers' land for the grand FA Cup final game, Arsenal vs. Aston Villa. Game time was 11:30AM but our group "promptly" arrived at 10:00AM. I do admit that we were slightly over the top as we arrived to an empty venue. But the bright side was getting first dibs on finding the best seat for the game. It was early and we were starving. Off the brunch menu, I had the sausage and egg sandwich with provolone cheese. My sandwich was leaking oil as I held it up to take a bite. After several bites, I noticed a puddle of oil on my plate. Yes, we are at a bar and I shouldn't expect my food to be healthy but excessive oil isn't appetizing either. I resorted to soaking up the excess oil with my napkin before continuing with my sandwich. I was a good sport and finished without wasting a single crumb. The breakfast potatoes were a lot better. They came in small bits with a good crisp. Will I return? Most likely for a futbol game since we were easily able to get a table with seats.

All I can say is wow!!! If you haven't stopped in here for food and drinks you must. Service is very attentive and prompt, staff is very friendly I tried their New Orleans style beignets that they have for brunch with some type of homemade berry sauce, it was incredible. The lunch menu has options for everyone, kids, vegetarians and those ready to explore. Pulled pork crepes were out of this world, followed by spicy Thai carrot soup, last but not least fish n chips with a rosemary tartar sauce.... um... is this a 5 star restaurant? It should be! I wouldn't be surprised if this place ends up on Chicago's Best or Guy Fieri stops by..

Very chilled environment, excellent place to watch a Football (Soccer) game. Can get crowded at times for big games but that's a given. Always will go to this place for watching sporting events. Great food too! Love their breakfast menu.

Both of the times I've gone here I've gotten exceptional service. The bartender even remembered my girlfriend and I the second time we came, and remembered exactly what we ordered. I can't imagine how many people visit this bar, because of all of the soccer games they show, and to be remembered after only the first visit scores huge points for me. We ordered the pretzels and I had a burger to accompany the Guinness and Malort, and both were very, very good. The pretzels came with an awesome beer cheese that I sopped up with fries when the pretzels were long gone. The burger was a massive beast topped with bacon, some spicy sauce, and your usual burger accouterments. Delicious. Can't wait to go back for more!

The is great sports bar if you like Soccer or Penn StAte football. Food is decent, but nothing too special. They serve a lot of English Pub food and a lot of the staples like wings, burgers, and nachos. Place doesn't have any drink specials on weekends, so expect to eat overpay. All beers are $6.50/$7.00 or more. Place could do better on that front.

Stopped in while walking home from Wrigley. I've always liked the looks of this place and they didn't disappoint. Good beer list. Friendly server. Great vibe. All the important games on the tube. What more could a guy ask for? Next time I'll eat something there.

This place is amazing. As a Liverpool supporter this is the absolute best place to watch the Reds play. Everyone up and singing the songs, cheering them on. The Breakfasts are tasty, the beer is plentiful, and atmosphere is top notch. Come here for a weekend game!

I've been to AJs now several times and it has taken me some time to warm up to this place. This is by fave my favorite bar to come to Sunday or Saturday morning to watch the English premier league, even though this is where the Chicago Chelsea fan club always meets . Unlike many other soccer bars, it's bright with open windows and even a really sweet outdoor area loaded with tvs. AJs has excellent food, particularly probably the best Ruben in Chicago and they also make their own Bloody Mary mix which is absolutely delicious. Although the service is a little bit slow, probably because they seem under staffed a little for big premier games, the staff is always very friendly and does their best. I definitely want to become a regular here.

I always want to support a local spot but AJs is so MEH. The food is hit or miss and if you order anything other than a beer so are the drinks. I come here for beer and soccer on a patio but anything more and your experience will be underwhelming.

Perfectly good neighborhood bar for watching sports. The biggest plus I have found here is the significant table space and great service. When coming in for the Cubs game I found a table for friends about 40 minutes before the game. Throughout even as the bar filled up the servers always stayed attentive and it was really easy to order additional beers. They have a decent set of beers on menu including some less expensive imports. The 22 oz carlsburg for 5.5 is a solid deal. The only drawback is the food. We ordered wings and nachos. wings were average but nothing special. Nachos were not very good. They fry their own chips leaving many soggy and drenched in oil. The cheese used is a sauce which I recognize people like but I am not a big fan of. Don't come here for the food but do come for a good place to watch a game and have some beers with friends.

Great neighborhood bar and it's offering great food for takeout during this shelter in place. They rocked it with some wings in T-Rex sauce and a really top notch Reuben.

I came here with a friend for Liverpool vs. Chelsea game and it was a terrible experience. We ordered our food before kickoff and at halftime we still received nothing. That's 50 minutes without anything we ordered. If you are willing to wait an hour to get bar food this is your place to be. We left without getting food.
